In this paper, we investigate the $ϕ^4$ model with cutoffs. By introducing a spatial cutoff and a momentum cutoff, the total Hamiltonian is a self-adjoint operator on a boson Fock space. Under regularity conditions of the momentum cutoff, we obtain the first order expansion of a non-degenerate ground state energy of the total Hamiltonian.
Ground states of the so called Yukawa model is considered. The Yukawa model describes a Dirac field interacting with a Klein-Gordon field. By introducing both ultraviolet cutoffs and spatial cutoffs, the total Hamiltonian is defined as a self-adjoint operator on a boson-fermion Fock space. It is shown that the total Hamiltonian has a positive spectral gap for all values of coupling constants. In particular the existence of ground states is proven.
We propose a new analytical method to solve for nonexactly soluble Schrodinger equation via expansions through some existing quantum numbers. Successfully, it is applied to the rational non-polynomial oscillator potential. Moreover, a conclusion reached by Scherrer et al. [2], via matrix continued fractions method, that the shifted large N expansion method leads to dubious accuracies is investigated. The cutoff - Coulomb and Coulomb plus logarithmic potentials are also investigated.
In this paper, we investigate a system of quantum electrodynamics with cutoffs. The total Hamiltonian is defined on a tensor product of a fermion Fock space and a boson Fock. It is shown that, under spatially localized conditions and momentumregularity conditions, the total Hamiltonian has a ground state for all values of coupling constants. In particular, its multiplicity is finite.
In this paper we consider the massless translation invariant Nelson model with ultraviolet cutoff. It is proven that the fiber operators have no ground state if there is no infrared cutoff.
In this paper, we consider the spectrum of a model in quantum electrodynamics with a spatial cutoff. It is proven that (1) the Hamiltonian is self-adjoint; (2) under the infrared regularity condition, the Hamiltonian has a unique ground state for sufficiently small values of coupling constants. The spectral scattering theory is studied as well and it is shown that asymptotic fields exist and the spectral gap is closed.
We show that Chern-Simons gauge theory with appropriate cutoffs is equivalent, term by term in perturbation theory, to a Fermionic theory with a nonlocal interaction term. When an additional cutoff is placed on the Fermi fields, this Fermionic theory gives rise to a convergent perturbation expansion. This leads us to conjecture that Chern-Simons gauge theory also gives rise to convergent perturbation expansions, which would give a mathematically well-defined construction of the theory.
We consider an Hamiltonian with ultraviolet and infrared cutoffs, describing the interaction of relativistic electrons and positrons in the Coulomb potential with photons in Coulomb gauge. The interaction includes both interaction of the current density with transversal photons and the Coulomb interaction of charge density with itself. We prove that the Hamiltonian is self-adjoint and has a ground state for sufficiently small coupling constants.
The translation invariant model in quantum field theory is considered by functional integrations. Ultraviolet renormalization of the translation invariant Nelson model with a fixed total momentum is proven by functional integrations. As a corollary it can be shown that the Nelson Hamiltonian with zero total momentum has a ground state for arbitrary values of coupling constants in two dimension. Furthermore the ultraviolet renormalization of the polaron model is also studied.
For lambda phi^4 models, the introduction of a large field cutoff improves significantly the accuracy that can be reached with perturbative series but the calculation of the modified coefficients remains a challenging problem. We show that this problem can be solved numerically, and in the limits of large and small field cutoffs, for the ground state energy of the anharmonic oscillator. For the two lowest orders, the approximate formulas obtained in the large field cutoff limit extend unexpectedly far in the low field cutoff region. For the higher orders, the transition between the small field…
We consider the semi-relativistic Pauli-Fierz model for a single free electron interacting with the quantized radiation field. Employing a variant of Pizzo's iterative analytic perturbation theory we construct a sequence of ground state eigenprojections of infra-red cutoff, dressing transformed fiber Hamiltonians and prove its convergence, as the cutoff goes to zero. Its limit is the ground state eigenprojection of a certain Hamiltonian unitarily equivalent to a renormalized fiber Hamiltonian acting in a coherent state representation space. The ground state energy is an exactly two-fold degene…
For lambda phi^4 models, the introduction of a large field cutoff improves significantly the accuracy that can be reached with perturbative series but the calculation of the modified coefficients remains a challenging problem. We show that this problem can be solved numerically, and analytically in the limits of large and small field cutoffs, for the ground state energy of the anharmonic oscillator. For the two lowest orders in lambda, the approximate formulas obtained in the large field cutoff limit extend unexpectedly far in the low field cutoff region and there is a significant overlap with…
We consider the ground state of an atom in the framework of non-relativistic qed. We assume that the ultraviolet cutoff is of the order of the Rydberg energy and that the atomic Hamiltonian has a non-degenerate ground state. We show that the ground state energy and the ground state are k-times continuously differentiable functions of the fine structure constant and respectively the square root of the fine structure constant on some nonempty interval [0,c_k).
The Pauli-Fierz model with a variable mass $v$ is considered. An ultraviolet cutoff and an infrared regularity condition are imposed on a quantized radiation field. It is shown that the ground state exists for arbitrary values of coupling constants, when $v(x)\leq c\langle x\rangle^{-β}$, $β>3$.
We consider the ground state energy of the electromagnetic field in a piston geometry. In the idealised case, where the piston and the walls of the chamber are taken as perfect mirrors, the Casimir pressure on the piston is finite and independent of the small scale physics of the media that compose the mirrors; the Casimir-energy of the system can be regularised and is cutoff-independent. Yet we find that, when the body of the piston is filled with an inhomogeneous dielectric medium, the Casimir energy is cutoff-dependent, and the value of the pressure is thus inextricably dependent on the det…
We consider a non-relativistic electron bound by an external potential and coupled to the quantized electromagnetic field in the standard model of non-relativistic QED. We compute the energy functional of product states of the form $u\otimes Ψ_f$, where $u$ is a normalized state for the electron and $Ψ_f$ is a coherent state in Fock space for the photon field. The minimization of this functional yields a Maxwell--Schr{ö}dinger system up to a trivial renormalization. We prove the existence of a ground state under general conditions on the external potential and the coupling. In particular, neit…
We consider the ground state of an atom in the framework of non-relativistic qed. We show that the ground state as well as the ground state energy are analytic functions of the coupling constant which couples to the vector potential, under the assumption that the atomic Hamiltonian has a non-degenerate ground state. Moreover, we show that the corresponding expansion coefficients are precisely the coefficients of the associated Raleigh-Schroedinger series. As a corollary we obtain that in a scaling limit where the ultraviolet cutoff is of the order of the Rydberg energy the ground state and the…
From the asymptotic expansion of the ground state of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in the Thomas--Fermi limit given by Gallo and Pelinovsky in a previous work, we infer an asymptotic expansion of the kinetic, potential and total energy of the ground state. In particular, we give a rigorous proof of the expansion of the kinetic energy calculated by Dalfovo, Pitaevskii and Stringari in the case where the space dimension is 3. Moreover, we calculate one more term in this expansion, and we generalize the result to space dimensions 1 and 2.
In this article, we consider fixed spin 1/2 particles interacting through the quantized electromagnetic field in a constant magnetic field. We give some asymptotic expansions for the ground state and the ground state energy of the Hamiltonian operator $H(h)$ describing this system. The first terms of these expansions enable to recover elementary formulas for the energy and the magnetic field of the spins when considered as magnets. A first order radiative correction is computed for the energy.
Vacuum-energy calculations with ideal reflecting boundaries are plagued by boundary divergences, which presumably correspond to real (but finite) physical effects occurring near the boundary. Our working hypothesis is that the stress tensor for idealized boundary conditions with some finite cutoff should be a reasonable ad hoc model for the true situation. The theory will have a sensible renormalized limit when the cutoff is taken away; this requires making sense of the Einstein equation with a distributional source. Calculations with the standard ultraviolet cutoff reveal an inconsistency bet…
We present exact calculations of the chromatic polynomial and resultant ground state entropy of the $q$-state Potts antiferromagnet on lattice strips that are homeomorphic expansions of a strip of the kagome lattice. The dependence of the ground state entropy on the form of homeomorphic expansion is elucidated.
In this paper we consider an interacting Bose gas at zero temperature, constrained to a finite box and in the mean field limiting regime. The N gas particles interact through a pair potential of positive type and with an ultraviolet cut-off. The (nonzero) Fourier components of the potential are assumed to be sufficiently large with respect to the corresponding kinetic energies of the modes like in the companion papers [Pi1]-[Pi2]. Using the multi-scale technique in the occupation numbers of particle states introduced in [Pi1]-[Pi2], we provide a convergent expansion of the ground state of the …
We consider the homogeneous Bose gas on a unit torus in the mean-field regime when the interaction strength is proportional to the inverse of the particle number. In the limit when the number of particles becomes large, we derive a two-term expansion of the one-body density matrix of the ground state. The proof is based on a cubic correction to Bogoliubov's approximation of the ground state energy and the ground state.

We show that the Yang-Mills quantum field theory with momentum and spacetime cutoffs in four Euclidean dimensions is equivalent, term by term in an appropriately resummed perturbation theory, to a Fermionic theory with nonlocal interaction terms. When a further momentum cutoff is imposed, this Fermionic theory has a convergent perturbation expansion. To zeroth order in this perturbation expansion, the correlation function $E(x,y)$ of generic components of pairs of connections is given by an explicit, finite-dimensional integral formula, which we conjecture will behave as $$E(x,y) \sim |x - y|^…
In this paper, we apply experimental number theory to two integrable quantum models in one dimension, the Lieb-Liniger Bose gas and the Yang-Gaudin Fermi gas with contact interactions. We identify patterns in weak- and strong-coupling series expansions of the ground-state energy, local correlation functions and pressure. Based on the most accurate data available in the literature, we make a few conjectures about their mathematical structure and extrapolate to higher orders.
A central problem in many-body quantum physics is the determination of the ground state of a thermodynamically large physical system. We construct a cluster expansion for ground states of local Hamiltonians, which naturally incorporates physical requirements inherited by locality as conditions on its cluster amplitudes. Applying a diagrammatic technique we derive the relation of these amplitudes to thermodynamic quantities and local observables. Moreover we derive a set of functional equations that determine the cluster amplitudes for a general Hamiltonian, verify the consistency with perturba…
