In the present series of papers, we study the behavior of the r-fold zeta-function of Euler-Zagier type with identical arguments on the real line. In this first part, we consider the behavior on the interval [0,1]. Our basic tool is an "infinite" version of Newton's classical identities. We carry out numerical computations, and draw graphs for real s in [0,1], for several small values of r. Those graphs suggest various properties of the r-fold zeta-function, some of which we prove rigorously. For example, we show that the r-fold zeta-function has r asymptotes, and determine the asymptotic behavior close to those asymptotes. Until now, the existence of one real zero for r=2 has been known. Our present computations establish several new real zeros between asymptotes in the cases r=3,...,10. Moreover, on the number of real zeros, we raise a conjecture, and a formula for calculating the number of zeros on the interval [0,1] is derived.
We obtain a weighted sum formula of the zeta values at even arguments, and a weighted sum formula of the multiple zeta values with even arguments and its zeta-star analogue. The weight coefficients are given by (symmetric) polynomials of the arguments. These weighted sum formulas for the zeta values and for the multiple zeta values were conjectured by L. Guo, P. Lei and J. Zhao.
We discuss moments of the Riemann zeta-function in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to give an upper bound of exponential moments of the logarithm of the Riemann zeta-function twisted by arguments. Our results contain an improvement of Najnudel result for exponential moments of the argument of the Riemann zeta-function and an unconditional upper bound of the moments.

In this article, we introduce a recurrence formula which only involves two adjacent values of the Riemann zeta function at integer arguments. Based on the formula, an algorithm to evaluate $ζ$-values(i.e. the values of Riemann zeta function) at odd-integers from the two nearest $ζ$-values at even-integers is posed and proved. The behavior of the error bound is $O(10^{-n})$ approximately where $n$ is the argument. Our method is especially powerful for the calculation of Riemann zeta function at large argument, while for smaller ones it can also reach spectacular accuracies such as more than ten…
In comparison with the previous version of this paper, the Introduction is slightly changed and some minor typos are deleted. All results are unchanged.
Let $S(t)$ denote the argument of the Riemann zeta-function, defined as $$ S(t)=\dfrac{1}π\,\Im\logζ(1/2+it). $$ Assuming the Riemann hypothesis, we prove that $$ S(t)=Ω_{\pm}\bigg(\dfrac{\log t\log\log\log t}{\log\log t}\bigg). $$ This improves the classical omega results of Montgomery and matches with the $Ω$-result obtained by Bondarenko and Seip.
For k <= n, let E(2n,k) be the sum of all multiple zeta values with even arguments whose weight is 2n and whose depth is k. Of course E(2n,1) is the value of the Riemann zeta function at 2n, and it is well known that E(2n,2) = (3/4)E(2n,1). Recently Z. Shen and T. Cai gave formulas for E(2n,3) and E(2n,4). We give two formulas form E(2n,k), both valid for arbitrary k <=n, one of which generalizes the Shen-Cai results; by comparing the two we obtain a Bernoulli-number identity. We also give explicit generating functions for the numbers E(2n,k) and for the analogous numbers E*(2n,k) defined usin…
In this paper we provide a new series representation for the values of Riemann zeta function at integer arguments, namely: $ ζ(m)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{m(-1)^{n-1}Γ(1-ω_{m}n)...Γ(1-ω_{m}^{m-1}n)}{n!n^m}$, where $n$ is an integer that lager than $1$ and $ω$ is the $m$-th root of unity. This series converges quite fast. It's derived by some technique of infinite partial fraction decomposition. With this technique we also establish other useful formulas related to gamma function.
For $k\leq n$, let $E(mn,k)$ be the sum of all multiple zeta values of depth $k$ and weight $mn$ with arguments are multiples of $m\geq 2$. More precisely, $E(mn,k)=\sum_{|\boldsymbolα|=n}ζ(mα_1,mα_2,\ldots, mα_k)$. In this paper, we develop a formula to express $E(mn,k)$ in terms of $ζ(\{m\}^p)$ and $ζ^\star(\{m\}^q)$, $0\leq p,q\leq n$. In particular, we settle Genčev's conjecture on the evaluation of $E(4n,k)$ and also evaluate $E(mn,k)$ explicitly for small even $m\leq 8$.
This paper improves the bound on $|S(T)|$. The main result is to show that $|S(T)|\leq 0.111\log T + 0.275\log\log T + 2.450$, which is valid for all $T\geq e$.
For Hurwitz zeta function, we obtain power series expression in second variable for its higher order derivatives (with respect to first variable) at non-positive integer arguments and consequently obtain rapidly decreasing series expression for Riemann zeta fuction at positive odd integer arguments. Further, we obtain corresponding results for Dirichlet L-series. We also a unified proof of various classical identities involving Riemann zeta values.
Euler discovered a formula for expressing the value of the Riemann zeta function for all even positive integer arguments. A closed-form expression for the Riemann zeta function for all odd integer arguments, based on the values of the Dirichlet beta function, euler numbers and pi, reveals a new evidence about the self-recursive nature of Riemann zeta function at odd integers. We demonstrate for the first time that the Riemann zeta function at odd integers always produces a recurrence relation that is self-recursive.
Already in 1734 Euler found a short explicit formula for the value of Riemann zeta function Zeta(s) when the argument s equals a positive integer 2n where n=1,2,3,. No such formula exists for odd positive integer arguments of Zeta. The present paper discusses in particular the case of Zeta(3). A formula for Zeta(3) is obtained which in addition to a number of well known constants includes a rapidly converging infinite series, of which each term contains rational numbers and an even power of Pi. An attempt to convert this series into a finite number of terms containing commonly known constants …
We show that for a non-positive value of the first variable,Hurwitz zeta function becomes a polynomial in the second variable. We show this, using 'integration approach', instead of 'power series approach', which we had resorted to, in our earlier paper with the same title. This, in particular, explains why Riemann zeta function at positive even integer arguments, can be evaluated and why it cannot be evaluated explicitly at positive odd integer arguments.
We extend the results of our previous computer experiment performed on the first 2600 nontrivial zeros $γ_l$ of the Riemann zeta function calculated with 1000 digits accuracy to the set of 40000 first zeros given with 40000 decimal digits accuracy. We calculated the geometrical means of the denominators of continued fractions expansions of these zeros and for all cases we get values very close to the Khinchin's constant, which suggests that $γ_l$ are irrational. Next we have calculated the $n$-th square roots of the denominators $Q_n$ of the convergents of the continued fractions obtaining val…
A new definition for the Riemann zeta function for all positive integer number s > 1 is presented. We discover a most elegant expression and easy method for calculating the Riemann zeta function for small even integer values. Through this new reformulation we provide a one-line proof of the value of zeta(2) and demonstrate that zeta(2s) may be calculated by hand using only the cotangent function when the magnitude of the integer s is small.
Let $S(σ,t)=\frac{1}π\argζ(σ+it)$ be the argument of the Riemann zeta-function at the point $σ+it$ in the critical strip. For $n\geq 1$ and $t>0$, we define \begin{equation*} S_{n}(σ,t) = \int_0^t S_{n-1}(σ,τ) \,dτ+ δ_{n,σ\,}, \end{equation*} where $δ_{n,σ}$ is a specific constant depending on $σ$ and $n$. Let $0\leq β<1$ be a fixed real number. Assuming the Riemann hypothesis, we establish lower bounds for the maximum of $S_n(σ,t+h)-S_n(σ,t)$ near the critical line, on the interval $T^β\leq t \leq T$ and in a small range of $h$. This improves some results of the first author and generalizes a…
We show for even positive integers $n$ that the quotient of the Riemann zeta values $ζ(n+1)$ and $ζ(n)$ satisfies the equation $$\frac{ζ(n+1)}{ζ(n)} = (1-\frac{1}{n}) (1-\frac{1}{2^{n+1}-1}) \frac{\mathcal{L}^\star(\mathfrak{p}_n)}{\mathfrak{p}_n'(0)},$$ where $\mathfrak{p}_n \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ is a certain monic polynomial of degree $n$ and $\mathcal{L}^\star: \mathbb{C}[x] \to \mathbb{C}$ is a linear functional, which is connected with a special Dirichlet series. There exists the decomposition $\mathfrak{p}_n(x) = x(x+1) \mathfrak{q}_n(x)$. If $n = p+1$ where $p$ is an odd prime, then $\math…
In this article, we give, under the Riemann hypothesis, an upper bound for the exponential moments of the imaginary part of the logarithm of the Riemann zeta function on the critical line. Our result, which gives information on the fluctuations of the distribution of the zeros of $ζ$, has the same accuracy as the result obtained by Soundararajan in his paper entitled "Moments of the Riemann zeta function".
We exploit some properties of the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(n,x)$ in order to study sums of the form $\frac{1}{π^{n}}\sum_{j=-\infty}^{\infty}1/(jk+l)^{n}$ and $\frac{1}{π^{n}}\sum_{j=-\infty}^{\infty}(-1)^{j}/(jk+l)^{n}$ for $% 2\leq n,k\in \mathbb{N},$ and integer $l\leq k/2$. We show that these sums are algebraic numbers. We also show that $1<n\in \mathbb{N}$ and $p\in \mathbb{Q\cap (}0,1\mathbb{)}$ $:$ the numbers $(ζ(n,p)+(-1)^{n}ζ(n,1-p))/π^{n}$ are algebraic. On the way we find polynomials $s_{m}$ and $c_{m}$ of order respectively $2m+1$ and $2m+2$ such that their $n-$th coefficients of …
The purpose of this article is to present closed forms for various types of infinite series involving Fibonacci (Lucas) numbers and the Riemann zeta function at integer arguments.
We derive new infinite series involving Fibonacci numbers and Riemann zeta numbers. The calculations are facilitated by evaluating linear combinations of polygamma functions of the same order at certain arguments.
The Dirichlet characters of reduced residue systems modulo m are tabulated for moduli m <= 195. The associated L-series are tabulated for m <= 14 and small positive integer argument s accurate to 10^(-50), their first derivatives for m <= 6. Restricted summation over primes only defines Dirichlet Prime L-functions which lead to Euler products (Prime Zeta Modulo functions). Both are materialized over similar ranges of moduli and arguments. Formulas and numerical techniques are well known; the aim is to provide direct access to reference values.
For Hurwitz Zeta function,we consider its Taylor series expansion about various points as an analytic function of second variable in appropriate discs. We show that these Taylor are all polynomials in second variable for a non positive integral argument in first variable. On using functionalequations this results in instant evaluation of Riemann Zeta function at positive even integral values of its argument and of Dirichlet L series at positive integral values of its argument, when the argument and the corresponding Dirichlet character are both even or both odd.We also obtain finite sum expressio…
We first review our previous works of Arakawa and the authors on two, closely related single-variable zeta functions. Their special values at positive and negative integer arguments are respectively multiple zeta values and poly-Bernoulli numbers. We then introduce, as a generalization of Sasaki's work, level 2 analogue of one of the two zeta functions and prove results analogous to those by Arakawa and the first named author.
We prove new relations on zeta function at even arguments and Dirichlet $L$ function at odd. The key idea is to make use of the Taylor series and partial fraction decomposition of cotangent and secant functions as we discuss in calculus and complex analysis.
A new zerofree region of the Riemann Zeta-function $ζ$ is identified by using Turán's localization criterion linking zeros of $ζ$ with uniform local suprema of sets of Dirichlet polynomials expanded over the primes. The proof is based on a randomization argument. An estimate for local extrema for some finite families of shifted Dirichlet polynomials, % associated to linearly independent sequences of reals is established by preliminary considering their local increment properties, by means of Montgomery-Vaughan's variant of Hilbert's inequality. A covering argument combined with Turán's localiz…
Let $S(t) \;:=\; \frac{\displaystyle 1}{\displaystyle π}\arg ζ(\frac{1}{2} + it)$. We prove that, for $T^{\,27/82+\varepsilon} \le H \le T$, we have $$ {\rm mes}\Bigl\{t\in [T, T+H]\;:\; S(t)>0\Bigr\} = \frac{H}{2} + O\left(\frac{H\log_3T}{\varepsilon\sqrt{\log_2T}}\right), $$ where the $O$-constant is absolute. A similar formula holds for the measure of the set with $S(t)<0$, where $\log_kT = \log(\log_{k-1}T)$. This result is derived from an asymptotic formula for the distribution of values of $S(t)$, which is uniform in the relevant parameters, and this is of crucial importance. This in fac…
We combine our version of the resonance method with certain convolution formulas for $ζ(s)$ and $\log\, ζ(s)$. This leads to a new $Ω$ result for $|ζ(1/2+it)|$: The maximum of $|ζ(1/2+it)|$ on the interval $1 \le t \le T$ is at least $\exp\left((1+o(1)) \sqrt{\log T \log\log\log T/\log\log T}\right)$. We also obtain conditional results for $S(t):=1/π$ times the argument of $ζ(1/2+it)$ and $S_1(t):=\int_0^t S(τ)dτ$. On the Riemann hypothesis, the maximum of $|S(t)|$ is at least $c \sqrt{\log T \log\log\log T/\log\log T}$ and the maximum of $S_1(t)$ is at least $c_1 \sqrt{\log T \log\log\log T/(…
Interpolated multiple zeta values can be regarded as interpolation polynomials of multiple zeta values and multiple zeta-star values. In this paper, we give some algebraic relations of interpolated multiple zeta values, such as the symmetric sum formula, the shuffle regularized sum formula, a weighted sum formula and some evaluation formulas with even arguments. All the algebraic relations provided in this paper are deduced from the extended double shuffle relations.
This note describes continued fraction representations for the rational approximations to the zeta function recently found by the author. It is tempting to think that these continued fractions might be analysed using a souped up version of the Worpitzky argument so as to produce zero-free regions for the approximations.
Multiple zeta values (MZVs) with certain repeated arguments or certain sums of cyclically generated MZVs are evaluated as rational multiple of powers of $π^2$. In this paper, we give a short and simple proof of the remarkable evaluations of MZVs established by D. Borman and D. M. Bradley.
In this article, we consider the expressions for content-parametrized Schur multiple zeta-functions in terms of multiple zeta-functions of Euler-Zagier type and their star-variants, or in terms of modified zeta-functions of root systems. First of all, we focus on the Schur multiple zeta-function of hook type. And then, applying the Giambelli formula and induction argument, we obtain the expressions for general content-parametrized Schur multiple zeta-functions.
We make explicit an argument of Heath-Brown concerning large and small gaps between nontrivial zeroes of the Riemann zeta-function, $ζ(s)$. In particular, we provide the first unconditional results on gaps (large and small) which hold for a positive proportion of zeroes. To do this we prove explicit bounds on the second and fourth power moments of $S(t+h)-S(t)$, where $S(t)$ denotes the argument of $ζ(s)$ on the critical line and $h \ll 1 / \log T$. We also use these moments to prove explicit results on the density of the nontrivial zeroes of $ζ(s)$ of a given multiplicity.
We study the behavior of $r$-fold zeta-functions of Euler-Zagier type with identical arguments $ζ_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ on the real line. Our basic tool is an "infinite'' version of Newton's classical identities. We carry out numerical computations, and draw graphs of $ζ_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ for real $s$, for several small values of $r$. Those graphs suggest various properties of $ζ_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$, some of which we prove rigorously. When $s \in [0,1]$, we show that $ζ_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ has $r$ asymptotes at $\Re s=1/k$ ($1\leq k\leq r$), and determine the asymptotic behavior of $ζ_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ clo…
We describe in this work all solutions to the problem of renormalizing multiple zeta values at arguments of any sign in a quasi-shuffle compatible way. As a corollary we clarify the relation between different renormalizations at non-positive values appearing in the recent literature.
Using Euler transformation of series we relate values of Hurwitz zeta function at integer and rational values of arguments to certain rapidly converging series where some generalized harmonic numbers appear. The form of these generalized harmonic numbers carries information about the values of the arguments of Hurwitz function. In particular we prove: $\forall k\in \mathbb{N}:$ $ζ(k,1)\allowbreak =\allowbreak \frac{2^{k-1}}{2^{k-1}-1}% \sum_{n=1}^{\infty }\frac{H_{n}^{(k-1)}}{n2^{n}},$ where $H_{n}^{(k)}$ are defined below generalized harmonic numbers. Further we find generating function of th…
The aim of the present work is to exhibit a new proof of the explicit spectral expansion for the fourth moment of the Riemann zeta-function that was established by the second named author a decade ago. Our proof is new, particularly in the sense that it dispenses completely with the Kloostermania, the spectral theory of sums of Kloosterman sums that was used in the former proof. The argument is now constructed precisely upon the spectral structure of the Lie group PSL(2,R). Main ingredients in our argument are the theory of automorphic representations as well as the harmonic analysis on the bi…
We show that if a,b,c,d,f are positive integers such that a+b+c+d+f is even, then the Witten zeta value zeta_{sl(4)}(a,b,c,d,0,f) is expressible in terms of Witten zeta functions with fewer arguments.
Let $πS(t)$ denote the argument of the Riemann zeta-function at the point $\frac12+it$. Assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, we sharpen the constant in the best currently known bounds for $S(t)$ and for the change of $S(t)$ in intervals. We then deduce estimates for the largest multiplicity of a zero of the zeta-function and for the largest gap between the zeros.
We show the recurrence relations of the Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-function which describes the $r$-fold function with one variable specialized to a non-positive integer as a rational linear combination of $(r-1)$-fold functions, which extends the previous results of Akiyama-Egami-Tanigawa and Matsumoto. As an application, we obtain an explicit method to calculate the special values of the multiple zeta-function at any integer point (the arguments could be neither all-positive nor all-non-positive) as a rational linear summation of the multiple zeta values.
The renormalization of MZV was until now carried out by algebraic means. We show that renormalization in general, of the multiple zeta functions in particular, is more than mere convention. We show that simple calculus methods allow us to compute the renormalized values of multiple zeta functions in any dimension for arguments of the form (1,...,1), where the series do not converge. These values happen to be the coefficients of the asymptotic expansion of the inverse Gamma function. We focus on the geometric interpretation of these values, and on the combinatorics their closed form encodes, wh…
In this paper, we give an elementary account into Zagier's formula for multiple zeta values involving Hoffman elements. Our approach allows us to obtain direct proof in a special case via rational zeta series involving the coefficient $ζ(2n)$. This formula plays an important role in proving Hoffman's conjecture which asserts that every multiple zeta value of weight $k$ can be expressed as a $\mathbb{Q}$-linear combinations of multiple zeta values of the same weight involving $2$'s and $3$'s. Also, using a similar hypergeometric argument via rational zeta series, we produce a new Zagier-type fo…
We prove that any Mordell-Tornheim sum with positive integer arguments can be expressed as a rational linear combination of multiple zeta values of the same weight and depth. By a result of Tsumura, it follows that any Mordell-Tornheim sum with weight and depth of opposite parity can be expressed as a rational linear combination of products of multiple zeta values of lower depth.
The Northcott property for special values of Dedekind zeta functions and more general motivic $L$-functions was defined by Pazuki and Pengo. We investigate this property for any complex evaluation of Dedekind zeta functions. The results are more delicate and subtle than what was proven for the function field case in previous work of Li and the authors, since they include some surprising behavior in the neighborhood of the trivial zeros. The techniques include a mixture of analytic and computer assisted arguments.
We have used the first 2600 nontrivial zeros gamma_l of the Riemann zeta function calculated with 1000 digits accuracy and developed them into the continued fractions. We calculated the geometrical means of the denominators of these continued fractions and for all cases we get values close to the Khinchin's constant, what suggests that gamma_l are irrational. Next we have calculated the n-th square roots of the denominators q_n of the convergents of the continued fractions obtaining values close to the Khinchin-Levy constant, again supporting the common believe that gamma_l are irrational.
Let Q(4n,d) be the sum of all multiple zeta values of depth d and weight 4n whose arguments are all multiples of 4. In this paper we derive a formula of Q(4n,d) for all d>2 as a finite sum involving binomial coefficients, Bernoulli numbers and the quantities Q(4m,2). The number of terms is about 3d^2/8 which is independent of n.
The shuffle product plays an important role in the study of multiple zeta values. This is expressed in terms of multiple integrals, and also as a product in a certain non-commutative polynomial algebra over the rationals in two indeterminates. In this paper, we give a new interpretation of the shuffle product. In fact, we prove that the procedure of shuffle products essentially coincides with that of partial fraction decompositions of multiple zeta values of root systems. As an application, we give a proof of extended double shuffle relations without using Drinfel'd integral expressions for mu…
We investigate relations among Schur multiple zeta functions and zeta-functions of root systems attached to semisimple Lie algebras. Schur multiple zeta functions are defined as sums over semi-standard Young tableaux. Then, assuming the Young tableaux is of anti-hook shape, we show that they can be written in terms of modified zeta-functions of root systems of type $A$. Our proof is quite computational, but we also give a pictorial interpretation of our argument in terms of Young tableaux. It is also possible to understand that one of our theorems gives an expression of Schur multiple zeta fun…
In this note, we prove Selberg's announced result on $r$-gaps between zeros of the Riemann zeta-function $ζ$. Our proof uses a result on variations of $\argζ$ by Tsang based on Selberg's method. The same result with explicit constants under the Riemann Hypothesis has been obtained by Conrey and Turnage-Butterbaugh using a different method. We explain how to obtain explicit constants under the Riemann Hypothesis using our approach which is based on Selberg's and Tsang's arguments.
It is conjectured that the regularized double shuffle relations give all algebraic relations among the multiple zeta values, and hence all other algebraic relations should be deduced from the regularized double shuffle relations. In this paper, we provide as many as the relations which can be derived from the regularized double shuffle relations, for example, the weighted sum formula of L. Guo and B. Xie, some evaluation formulas with even arguments and the restricted sum formulas of M. E. Hoffman and their generalizations.
