Although detailed descriptions of the possible types of behaviour inside periodic Fatou components have been known for over 100 years, a classification of wandering domains has only recently been given. Recently, simply connected wandering domains were classified into nine possible types and examples of escaping wandering domains of each of these types were constructed. Here we consider the case of oscillating wandering domains, for which only six of these types are possible. We use a new technique based on approximation theory to construct examples of all six types of oscillating simply connected wandering domains. This requires delicate arguments since oscillating wandering domains return infinitely often to a bounded part of the plane. Our technique is inspired by that used by Eremenko and Lyubich to construct the first example of an oscillating wandering domain, but with considerable refinements which enable us to show that the wandering domains are bounded, to specify the degree of the mappings between wandering domains and to give precise descriptions of the dynamical behaviour of these mappings.
We construct a transcendental entire $f:\mathbb{C}\rightarrow\mathbb{C}$ such that (1) $f$ has bounded singular set, (2) $f$ has a wandering domain, and (3) each singular value of $f$ escapes to infinity under iteration by $f$.
Short $\mathbb{C}^2$'s were constructed in [F] as attracting basins of a sequence of holomorphic automorphisms whose rate of attraction increases superexponentially. The goal of this paper is to show that such domains also arise naturally as autonomous attracting basins: we construct a transcendental Hénon map with an oscillating wandering Fatou component that is a Short $\mathbb{C}^2$. The superexponential rate of attraction is not obtained at single iterations, but along consecutive oscillations.
We study the geometry of simply connected wandering domains for entire functions and we prove that every bounded connected regular open set, whose closure has a connected complement, is a wandering domain of some entire function. In particular such domain can be realized as an escaping or an oscillating wandering domain. As a consequence we obtain that every Jordan curve is the boundary of a wandering Fatou component of some entire function.
We modify a construction of Kisaka and Shishikura to show that there exists an entire function which has both a simply connected and a multiply connected wandering domain. Moreover, these domains are contained in the set of fast escaping points.

While the dynamics of transcendental entire functions in periodic Fatou components and in multiply connected wandering domains are well understood, the dynamics in simply connected wandering domains have so far eluded classification. We give a detailed classification of the dynamics in such wandering domains in terms of the hyperbolic distances between iterates and also in terms of the behaviour of orbits in relation to the boundaries of the wandering domains. In establishing these classifications, we obtain new results of wider interest concerning non-autonomous forward dynamical systems of h…
We prove that a Latt' es map admits an eventually simply-connected wandering continuum precisely when it is flexible. The simply-connected wandering continuum is a line segment in a bi-infinite geodesic under the flat metric.
We prove that the Euclidean ball can be realized as a Fatou component of a holomorphic automorphism of $\mathbb{C}^m$, in particular as the escaping and the oscillating wandering domain. Moreover, the same is true for a large class of bounded domains, namely for all bounded regular open sets $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}^m$ whose closure is polynomially convex. Our result gives in particular the first example of a bounded Fatou component with a smooth boundary in the category of holomorphic automorphisms.
Let $f$ and $g$ be permutable transcendental entire functions. We use a recent analysis of the dynamical behaviour in multiply connected wandering domains to make progress on the long standing conjecture that the Julia sets of $f$ and $g$ are equal; in particular, we show that $J(f)=J(g)$ provided that neither $f$ nor $g$ has a simply connected wandering domain in the fast escaping set.
We introduce a new approximation technique into the context of complex dynamics that allows us to construct examples of transcendental entire functions with unbounded wandering domains. We provide examples of entire functions with an orbit of unbounded fast escaping wandering domains, answering a long-standing question of Rippon and Stallard. Moreover, these examples cover all possible types of simply connected wandering domains in terms of convergence to the boundary. In relation to a conjecture of Baker, it was unknown whether functions of order less than one could have unbounded wandering d…
Recently Bishop constructed the first example of a bounded-type transcendental entire function with a wandering domain using a new technique called quasiconfomal folding. It is easy to check that his method produces an entire function of infinite order. We construct the first examples of entire functions of finite order in the class $\mathcal B$ with wandering domains. As in Bishop's example, these wandering domains are of oscillating type, that is, they have an unbounded non-escaping orbit. To construct such functions we use quasiregular interpolation instead of quasiconformal folding, which …
We describe conditions under which a multiply connected wandering domain of a transcendental meromorphic function with a finite number of poles must be a Baker wandering domain, and we discuss the possible eventual connectivity of Fatou components of transcendental meromorphic functions. We also show that if $f$ is meromorphic, $U$ is a bounded component of $F(f)$ and $V$ is the component of $F(f)$ such that $f(U)\subset V$, then $f$ maps each component of $\partial U$ onto a component of the boundary of $V$ in $\hat{\C}$. We give examples which show that our results are sharp; for example, we…
C. Bishop has constructed an example of an entire function f in Eremenko-Lyubich class with at least two grand orbits of oscillating wandering domains. In this paper we show that his example has exactly two such orbits, that is, f has no unexpected wandering domains. We apply this result to the classical problem of relating the Julia sets of composite functions with the Julia set of its members. More precisely, we show the existence of two entire maps f and g in Eremenko-Lyubich class such that the Fatou set of f compose with g has a wandering domain, while all Fatou components of f or g are p…
We study the iteration of transcendental self-maps of $\mathbb{C}^*:=\mathbb{C}\setminus \{0\}$, that is, holomorphic functions $f:\mathbb{C}^*\to\mathbb{C}^*$ for which both zero and infinity are essential singularities. We use approximation theory to construct functions in this class with escaping Fatou components, both wandering domains and Baker domains, that accumulate to $\{0,\infty\}$ in any possible way under iteration. We also give the first explicit examples of transcendental self-maps of $\mathbb{C}^*$ with Baker domains and with wandering domains. In doing so, we developed a suffic…
We discuss how the nine-way classification scheme devised by Benini et al. for the dynamics of simply connected wandering domains of entire functions, based on the long-term behaviour of the hyperbolic distance between iterates of pairs of points and also the distance between orbits and the domains' boundaries, carries over to the general case of multiply connected wandering domains of meromorphic functions. Most strikingly, we see that not all pairs of points in such a wandering domain behave in the same way relative to the hyperbolic distance, and that the connectivity of the wandering domai…
We prove that there exists a non-trivial transcendental semigroup S such that the wandering (or pre-periodic or periodic) components of Fatou set F(S) has at least a simply connected domain D.
Dynamics of an one-parameter family of functions $f_λ(z)=λ+ z+\tan z, z \in \mathbb{C}$ and $λ\in \mathbb{C}$ with an unbounded set of singular values is investigated in this article. For $|2+λ^2|<1$, $λ=i$, $2+λ^2=e^{2πi α}$ for some rational number $α$ and for some bounded type irrational number $α$, the dynamics of $f_{λ+mπ}$ is determined for $m \in \mathbb{Z}\setminus\{0\}$. For such values of $λ$, the existence of $m$ many wandering domains of $f_{λ+mπ}$ with disjoint grand orbits in the lower half-plane are asserted along with a completely invariant Baker domain containing the upper hal…
An adaptive network model using SIS epidemic propagation with link-type dependent link activation and deletion is considered. Bifurcation analysis of the pairwise ODE approximation and the network-based stochastic simulation is carried out, showing that three typical behaviours may occur; namely, oscillations can be observed besides disease-free or endemic steady states. The oscillatory behaviour in the stochastic simulations is studied using Fourier analysis, as well as through analysing the exact master equations of the stochastic model. A compact pairwise approximation for the dynamic netwo…
