In this paper, we consider a fully nonlinear curvature flow of a convex hypersurface in the Euclidean n-space. This flow involves k-th elementary symmetric function for principal curvature radii and a function of support function. Under some appropriate assumptions, we prove the long-time existence and convergence of this flow. As an application, we give the existence of smooth solutions to the Orlicz-Christoffel-Minkowski problem.
We prove a qualitative and a quantitative stability of the following rigidity theorem: an anisotropic totally umbilical closed hypersurface is the Wulff shape. Consider $n \geq 2$, $p\in (1, \, +\infty)$ and $Σ$ an $n$-dimensional, closed hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, boundary of a convex, open set. We show that if the $L^p$ norm of the trace-free part of the anisotropic second fundamental form is small, then $Σ$ must be $W^{2, \, p}$-close to the Wulff shape, with a quantitative estimate.
We show the existence of a smooth solution for the flow deformed by the square root of the scalar curvature multiplied by a positive anisotropic factor $ψ$ given a strictly convex initial hypersurface in Euclidean space suitably pinched. We also prove the convergence of rescaled surfaces to a smooth limit manifold which is a round sphere. In dimension two, it is shown that, with a volume preserving rescaling, the limit profile satisfies a soliton equation.
We prove that, for every closed (not necessarily convex) hypersurface $Σ$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ and every $p>n$, the $L^p$-norm of the trace-free part of the anisotropic second fundamental form controls from above the $W^{2,p}$-closeness of $Σ$ to the Wulff shape. In the isotropic setting, we provide a simpler proof. This result is sharp since in the subcritical regime $p\leq n$, the lack of convexity assumptions may lead in general to bubbling phenomena. Moreover, we obtain a stability theorem for quasi Einstein (not necessarily convex) hypersurfaces and we improve the quantitative estimates …
In this note, we give a classification of complete anisotropic isoparametric hypersurfaces, i.e., hypersurfaces with constant anisotropic principal curvatures, in Euclidean spaces, which is in analogue with the classical case for isoparametric hypersurfaces in Euclidean spaces. On the other hand, by an example of local anisotropic isoparametric surface constructed by B. Palmer, we find that anisotropic isoparametric hypersurfaces have both local and global aspects as in the theory of proper Dupin hypersurfaces.
We consider the problem of deforming a one-parameter family of hypersurfaces immersed into closed Riemannian manifolds with positive curvature operator. The hypersurface in this family satisfies mean curvature flow while the ambient metric satisfying the normalized Ricci flow. We prove that if the initial metric of the background manifold is sufficiently pinched and the initial hypersurface also satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then either the hypersurfaces shrink to a round point in finite time or converge to a totally geodesic sphere as the time tends to infinity.
In this paper we consider the evolution of a graph-like hypersurface by anisotropic mean curvature flow, under some restrictions on the anisotropic area integrand. We find interior estimates (in both time and space) on the gradient of such hypersurfaces, depending only on the height of the graph and the anisotropic area integrand.
We apply the evolution method to present a new proof of the Alexandrov type theorem for constant anisotropic mean curvature hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$.
We study a variational problem for piecewise-smooth hypersurfaces in the (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with an anisotropic energy. An anisotropic energy is the integral of an energy density that depends on the normal at each point over the considered hypersurface. The minimizer of such an energy among all closed hypersurfaces enclosing the same (n+1)-dimensional volume is unique and it is (up to rescaling) so-called the Wulff shape. The Wulff shape and equilibrium hypersurfaces of this energy for volume-preserving variations are not smooth in general. We prove that, if the anisotropic ener…
In this paper, we investigate a holonomy invariant elliptic anisotropic surface energy for hypersurfaces in a complete Riemannian manifold, where "holonomy invariant" means that the elliptic parametric Lagrangian (i.e., a Finsler metric) of the Riemannian manifold used to define the anisotropic surface energy is constant along each holonomy subbundle of the tangent bundle of the Riemannian manifold. First we obtain the first variational formula for this anisotropic surface energy. Next we shall introduce the notions of an anisotropic convex hypersurface, an anisotropic equifocal hypersurface a…
Given a positive function $F$ on $\mathbb S^n$ which satisfies a convexity condition, for $1\leq r\leq n$, we define for hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ the $r$-th anisotropic mean curvature function $H_{r; F}$, a generalization of the usual $r$-th mean curvature function. We call a hypersurface is anisotropic minimal if $H_F=H_{1; F}=0$, and anisotropic $r$-minimal if $H_{r+1; F}=0$. Let $W$ be the set of points which are omitted by the hyperplanes tangent to $M$. We will prove that if an oriented hypersurface $M$ is anisotropic minimal, and the set $W$ is open and non-empty, then $x(M)$ …
We show that a complete, two-sided, stable immersed anisotropic minimal hypersurface in $\mathbf{R}^4$ has intrinsic cubic volume growth, provided the parametric elliptic integral is $C^2$-close to the area functional. We also obtain an interior volume upper bound for stable anisotropic minimal hypersurfaces in the unit ball. We can estimate the constants explicitly in all of our results. In particular, this paper gives an alternative proof of our recent stable Bernstein theorem for minimal hypersurfaces in $\mathbf{R}^4$. The new proof is more closely related to techniques from the study of s…
We consider a convex solid cone $\mathcal{C}\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with vertex at the origin and boundary $\partial\mathcal{C}$ smooth away from $0$. Our main result shows that a compact two-sided hypersurface $Σ$ immersed in $\mathcal{C}$ with free boundary in $\partial\mathcal{C}\setminus\{0\}$ and minimizing, up to second order, an anisotropic area functional under a volume constraint is contained in a Wulff-shape.
Given a positive function $F$ on $S^n$ which satisfies a convexity condition, for $1\leq r\leq n$, we define the $r$-th anisotropic mean curvature function $H^F_r$ for hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ which is a generalization of the usual $r$-th mean curvature function. We prove that a compact embedded hypersurface without boundary in $\R^{n+1}$ with $H^F_r={constant}$ is the Wulff shape, up to translations and homotheties. In case $r=1$, our result is the anisotropic version of Alexandrov Theorem, which gives an affirmative answer to an open problem of F. Morgan.
Given a positive function $F$ on $S^n$ which satisfies a convexity condition, we define the $r$-th anisotropic mean curvature function $H^F_r$ for hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ which is a generalization of the usual $r$-th mean curvature function. Let $X:M\to \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ be an $n$-dimensional closed hypersurface with $H^F_{r+1}=$constant, for some $r$ with $0\leq r\leq n-1$, which is a critical point for a variational problem. We show that $X(M)$ is stable if and only if $X(M)$ is the Wulff shape.
In the first part of this paper, we develop the theory of anisotropic curvature measures for convex bodies in the Euclidean space. It is proved that any convex body whose boundary anisotropic curvature measure equals a linear combination of other lower order anisotropic curvature measures with nonnegative coefficients is a scaled Wulff shape. This generalizes the classical results by Schneider [Comment. Math. Helv. \textbf{54} (1979), 42--60] and by Kohlmann [Arch. Math. (Basel) \textbf{70} (1998), 250--256] to the anisotropic setting. The main ingredients in the proof are the generalized anis…
An anisotropic surface energy is the integral of an energy density that depends on the normal at each point over the considered surface, and it is a generalization of surface area. The minimizer of such an energy among all closed surfaces enclosing the same volume is unique and it is (up to rescaling) so-called the Wulff shape. We prove that, unlike the isotropic case, there exists an anisotropic energy density function such that there exist closed embedded equilibrium surfaces with genus zero in the three-dimensional Euclidean space each of which is not (any homothety and translation of) the …
We introduce and study deformation $T_{{\bf b},ϕ}$ of Minkowski norms in $\mathbb{R}^n$, determined by a set ${\bf b}=(β_1,\ldots,β_p)$ of linearly independent 1-forms and a smooth positive function $ϕ$ of $p$ variables. In particular, the $T_{{\bf b},ϕ}$-image of a Euclidean norm $α$ is a Minkowski norm, whose indicatrix is a rotation hypersurface with a $p$-dimensional axis passing through the origin. For $p=1$, our deformation generalizes construction of $(α,β)$-norm; the last ones form a rich class of "computable" Minkowski norms and play an important role in Finsler geometry. We use compo…
In this paper, we consider the evolution of spacelike graphic hypersurfaces defined over a convex piece of hyperbolic plane $\mathscr{H}^{n}(1)$, of center at origin and radius $1$, in the $(n+1)$-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_{1}$ along an anisotropic inverse mean curvature flow with the vanishing Neumann boundary condition, and prove that this flow exists for all the time. Moreover, we can show that, after suitable rescaling, the evolving spacelike graphic hypersurfaces converge smoothly to a piece of hyperbolic plane of center at origin and prescribed radius, which a…
We consider an expanding flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_k^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_k is the k-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface, k is an integer and 1<= k<= n. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of a elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta bel…
We consider a shrinking flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_n^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_n is the n-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of an elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, provid…
In this paper, we study the anisotropic Minkowski problem. It is a problem of prescribing the anisotropic Gauss-Kronecker curvature for a closed strongly convex hypersurface in Euclidean space as a function on its anisotropic normals in relative or Minkowski geometry. We first formulate such problem to a Monge-Ampére type equation on the anisotropic support function and then prove the existence and uniqueness of the admissible solution to such equation. In conclusion, we give an affirmative answer to the anisotropic Minkowski problem.
In this paper, we show that the inverse anisotropic mean curvature flow in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, initiating from a star-shaped, strictly $F$-mean convex hypersurface, exists for all time and after rescaling the flow converges exponentially fast to a rescaled Wulff shape in the $C^\infty$ topology. As an application, we prove a Minkowski type inequality for star-shaped, $F$-mean convex hypersurfaces.
In this paper, by using new auxiliary functions, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, star-shaped hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with speed $r^{\fracαβ}σ_k^{\frac{1}β}$, where $σ_k$ is the $k$-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, $α$, $β$ are positive constants and $r$ is the distance from points on the hypersurface to the origin. We obtain convergence results under some assumptions of $k$, $α$, $β$. When $k\geq2$, $0<β\leq 1$, $α\geq β+k$, we prove that the $k$-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after …
In this paper, we discuss anisotropic submanifolds and isoparametric hypersurfaces in a Randers space form (N,F) with the navigation datum (h,W). We find that (N, F) with respect to the BH-volume and (N,h) have the same isoparametric hypersurfaces although, in general, their isoparametric functions are different. This implies that the classification of isoparametric hypersurfaces in a Randers space form is the same as that in Riemannian case. Lastly, we give some examples of isoparametric functions in Randers space forms.
We show that compact embedded starshaped $r$-convex hypersurfaces of certain warped products satisfying $H_r=aH+b$ with $a\geqslant 0$, $b>0$, where $H$ and $H_r$ are respectively the mean curvature and $r$-th mean curvature is a slice. In the case of space forms, we show that without the assumption of starshapedness, such Weingarten hypersurfaces are geodesic spheres. Finally, we prove that, in the case of space forms, if $Hr-aH-b$ is close to $0$ then the hypersurface is close to geodesic sphere for the Hausdorff distance. We also prove an anisotropic version of this stability result in the …
Given a positive function F on S n satisfying an appropriate con-vexity assumption, we consider hypersurfaces for which a linear combination of some higher order anisotropic curvatures is constant. We define the varia-tional problem for which these hypersurfaces are critical points and we prove that, up to translations and homotheties, the Wulff shape is the only stable closed hypersurface of the Euclidean space for this problem.
We also define $L_{r; F}$ operator, the linearized operator of the $r$-th anisotropic mean curvature, which is a generalization of the usual $L_r$ operator for hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n+1}$. The Reilly type inequalities for the first eigenvalue of the $L_{r; F}$ operator have been proved.
In this paper, we consider a large class of expanding flows of closed, smooth, star-shaped hypersurface in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with speed $ψu^αρ^δf^{-β}$, where $ψ$ is a smooth positive function on unit sphere, $u$ is the support function of the hypersurface, $ρ$ is the radial function, $f$ is a smooth, symmetric, homogenous of degree one, positive function of the principal curvatures of the hypersurface on a convex cone. When $ψ=1$, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges to infinity if $α+δ+β\le1, β>0$ and $α\le0$, while in case $α+δ+β>1,α,δ\le0$, the flow blo…
Given a positive function F on Sn which satisfies a convexity condition, we introduce the r-th anisotropic mean curvature Mr for hypersurfaces in Rn+1 which is a generalization of the usual r-th mean curvature Hr. We get integral formulas of Minkowski type for compact hypersurfaces in Rn+1. We give some new characterizations of the Wulff shape by use of our integral formulas of Minkowski type, in case F = 1 which reduces to some well-known results.
In this paper we study an anisotropic expanding flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with speed $ψσ_k(λ)^α$, where $α$ is a positive constant, $σ_k(λ)$ is the $k$-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal radii of curvature and $ψ$ is a preassigned positive smooth function defined on $\mathbb{S}^n$. We prove that under some assumptions of $ψ$, the solution to the flow after normalisation exists for all time and converges smoothly to a solution of the well-known $L^p$ Christoffel-Minkowski problem $u^{1-p}( x ) σ_k \left( \nabla^2u+uI\right)=cψ(…
