Let $K$ be a field (finite or infinite) of char$(K)\neq 2$ and let $UT_n=UT_n(K)$ be the $n\times n$ upper triangular matrix algebra over $K$. If $\cdot $ is the usual product on $UT_n$ then with the new product $a\circ b=(1/2)(a\cdot b +b\cdot a)$ we have that $UT_n$ is a Jordan algebra, denoted by $UJ_n=UJ_n(K)$. In this paper, we describe the set of all $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded polynomial identities of $UJ_2$ with any nontrivial $\mathbb{Z}_2$-grading. Moreover, we describe a linear basis for the corresponding relatively free $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra.
The main purpose of this paper is to show that every Jordan centralizer and every Jordan two-sided centralizer is a centralizer on triangular rings without assuming unity. As an application, we prove that every Jordan generalized derivation on a triangular ring is a two-sided generalized derivation. Some other related results are also discussed.
In the paper we describe the subcategory of the category of Z-graded Lie algebras which is equivalent to the category of Jordan pairs via a functorial modification of the TKK construction. For instance, we prove that a Z-graded Lie algebra can be constructed from a Jordan pair if and only if it is generated by odd graded components and the second graded homology group is trivial. Similar descriptions are obtained for Jordan triple systems and Jordan algebras.
In this paper we prove that any nonlinear Jordan derivation on triangular algebras is an additive derivation. As a byproduct, we obtain that any nonlinear Jordan derivation on nest algebras over infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces is inner.
We provide that any Jordan derivation from the block upper triangular matrix algebra $\T = \T(n_{1},n_{2}, \cdots, n_{k})\subseteq M_{n}(\mathbb{\C})$ into a $2$-torsion free unital $\T$-bimodule is the sum of a derivation and an antiderivation.
We explore Jordan derivations of triangular matrices with entries from an additively idempotent semiring. The main result states that for any matrix A over additively idempotent semiring, if we put all the elements of the family of dense submatrices of A to be zeroes, we find a derivative of A. The set of derivations of this type is established.
Let $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal B$ be unital rings and $\mathcal M$ be a $(\mathcal A, \mathcal B)$-bimodule, which is faithful as a left $\mathcal A$-module and also as a right $\mathcal B$-module. Let ${\mathcal U}={\rm Tri}(\mathcal A, \mathcal M, \mathcal B)$ be the associated triangular ring. It is shown that every additive generalized Jordan (triple) higher derivation on $\mathcal U$ is a generalized higher derivation.
Guided by the research line introduced by Martindale III in [1] on the study of the additivity of maps, this article aims establish condi- tions on triangular matrix rings in order that an map ' satisfying '(ab + ba) = '(a)b + a'(b) + '(b)a + b'(a) for all a; b in a triangular matrix ring becomes additive.
Let $\T$ be a $2$-torsion free triangular ring and let $φ:\T\rightarrow \T$ be an additive map. We prove that if $\A φ(\B)+φ(\B)\A=0$ whenever $\A,\B\in \T$ are such that $\A\B=\B\A=0$, then $φ$ is a centralizer. It is also shown that if $τ:\T\rightarrow \T$ is an additive map satisfying $\label{t2} X,Y\in \T, \quad XY=YX=0\Rightarrow X τ(Y)+δ(X)Y+Yδ(X)+τ(Y)X=0$, where $δ:\T\rightarrow \T $ is an additive map satisfies $X,Y\in \T, \quad XY=YX=0\Rightarrow X δ(Y)+δ(X)Y+Yδ(X)+δ(Y)X=0$, then $τ(\A)=d(\A)+\A τ(\textbf{1})$, where $d:\T\rightarrow \T$ is a derivation and $τ(\textbf{1})$ lies in the…
We describe the graded isomorphisms of rings of endomorphisms of graded flags over graded division algebras. As a consequence describe the isomorphism classes of upper block triangular matrix algebras (over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero) graded by a finite abelian group.
Let G be an arbitrary group and let K be a field of characteristic different from 2. We classify the G-gradings on the Jordan algebra of upper triangular matrices of order n over K. It turns out that there are, up to a graded isomorphism, two families of gradings: the elementary gradings (analogous to the ones in the associative case), and the so called mirror type (MT) gradings. Moreover we prove that the G-gradings on this algebra are uniquely determined, up to a graded isomorphism, by the graded identities they satisfy.
We classify up to isomorphism all gradings by an arbitrary group $G$ on the Lie algebras of zero-trace upper block-triangular matrices over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$. It turns out that the support of such a grading always generates an abelian subgroup of $G$. Assuming that $G$ is abelian, our technique also works to obtain the classification of $G$-gradings on the upper block-triangular matrices as an associative algebra, over any algebraically closed field. These gradings were originally described by A. Valenti and M. Zaicev in 2012 (assuming characteristic $0$ and $…
We compute the graded automorphisms of the upper triangular matrices, viewed as associative, Lie and Jordan algebras. We compute also the so called self-equivalences and Weyl and diagonal groups for every grading.
The Jordan algebra of the symmetric matrices of order two over a field $K$ has two natural gradings by $\mathbb{Z}_2$, the cyclic group of order 2. We describe the graded polynomial identities for these two gradings when the base field is infinite and of characteristic different from 2. We exhibit bases for these identities in each of the two cases. In one of the cases we perform a series of computations in order to reduce the problem to dealing with associators while in the other case one employs methods and results from Invariant theory. Moreover we extend the latter grading to a $\mathbb{Z}…
Let G be a group and A be a G-graded algebra satisfying a polynomial identity. We buid up a model for the relative free G-graded algebra and we obtain, as an application, the "factoring" property for the T_G-ideals of block triangular matrices with entries from the finite dimensional Grassmann algebra E for some particular Z_2-grading.
Let F be a field of characteristic 0. We consider the algebra UT_m(F) of upper triangular matrices of order m endowed with na elementar Z_m-grading induced by the m-tuple phi=(0,0,1,...,m-2), then we compute its Y-proper graded cocharacter sequence and we give the explicit formulas for the multiplicities in the case m=2,3,4,5.
We construct a just infinite fractal 3-generated Lie superalgebra $\mathbf Q$ over arbitrary field, which gives rise to an associative hull $\mathbf A$, a Poisson superalgebra $\mathbf P$, and two Jordan superalgebras $\mathbf J$, $\mathbf K$. One has a natural filtration for $\mathbf A$ which associated graded algebra has a structure of a Poisson superalgebra and $\mathrm{gr} \mathbf A\cong\mathbf P$, also $\mathbf P$ admits an algebraic quantization. The Lie superalgebra $\mathbf Q$ is finely $\mathbb Z^3$-graded by multidegree in the generators, $\mathbf A$, $\mathbf P$ are $\mathbb Z^3$-gr…
Hom-alternative, Hom-Malcev and Hom-Jordan superalgebras are $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-graded generalizations of Hom-alternative, Hom-Malcev and Hom-Jordan algebras, which are Hom-type generalizations of alternative, Malcev and Jordan algebras. In this paper we prove that Hom-alternative superalgebras are Hom-Malcev-admissible and are also Hom-Jordan-admissible. Home-type generalizations of some well known identities in alternative superalgebras, including the $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-graded Bruck-Kleinfled function are obtained.
In this paper, we show that a map $δ$ over a triangular ring $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $δ(ab+ba)=δ(a)b+a τ(b)+δ(b)a+bτ(a)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$ and for some maps $τ$ over $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $τ(ab+ba)=τ(a)b+a τ(b)+τ(b)a+bτ(a)$, is additive. Also, it is shown that a map $T$ on $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $T(ab)=T(a)b=aT(b)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$, is additive. Further, we establish that if a map $D$ over $\mathcal{T}$ satisfies $(m+n)D(ab)=2mD(a)b+2naD(b)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$ and integers $m,n\geq 1$, then $D$ is additive.
We show that Artin-Schelter regularity of a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded algebra can be examined by its associated $\mathbb{Z}^r$-graded algebra. We prove that there is exactly one class of four-dimensional Artin-Schelter regular algebras with two generators of degree one in the Jordan case. This class is strongly noetherian, Auslander regular, and Cohen-Macaulay. Their automorphisms and point modules are described.
This paper generalises a result for upper triangular matrix rings to the situation of upper triangular matrix DGA's. An upper triangular matrix DGA has the form (R,S,M) where R and S are differential graded algebras and M is a DG-left-R-right-S-bimodule. We show that under certain conditions on the DG-module M and with the existance of a DG-R-module X, from which we can build the derived category D(R), that there exists a derived equivalence between the upper triangular matrix DGAs (R,S,M) and (S,M',R'), where the DG-bimodule M' is obtained from M and X and R' is the endomorphism DGA of a K-pr…
In this paper we study the images of multilinear graded polynomials on the graded algebra of upper triangular matrices UT_n. For positive integers q \leq n, we classify these images on UT_n endowed with a particular elementary Z_q-grading. As a consequence, we obtain the images of multilinear graded polynomials on UT_n with the natural Z_n-grading. We apply this classification in order to give a new condition for a multilinear polynomial in terms of graded identities so that to obtain the traceless matrices in its image on the full matrix algebra. We also describe the images of multilinear pol…
Let $G$ be an abelian group and $\mathbb{K}$ an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. A. Valenti and M. Zaicev described the $G$-gradings on upper block-triangular matrix algebras provided that $G$ is finite. We prove that their result holds for any abelian group $G$: any grading is isomorphic to the tensor product $A\otimes B$ of an elementary grading $A$ on an upper block-triangular matrix algebra and a division grading $B$ on a matrix algebra. We then consider the question of whether graded identities $A\otimes B$, where $B$ is an algebra with a division grading, determine $A\o…
We classify two classes of B_2-graded Lie algebras which have a second compatible grading by an abelian group A: (a) graded-simple Lie algebras for A torsion-free and (b) division-A-graded Lie algebras. Our results describe the centreless cores of a class of affine reflection Lie algebras, hence apply in particular to the centreless cores of extended affine Lie algebras, the so-called Lie tori, for which we recover results of Allison-Gao and Faulkner. Our classification (b) extends a recent result of Benkart-Yoshii. Both classifications are consequences of a new description of Jordan algebras …
The algebra of $n\times n$ matrices over a field $F$ has a natural $\mathbb{Z}_n$-grading. Its graded identities have been described by Vasilovsky who extended a previous work of Di Vincenzo for the algebra of $2\times 2$ matrices. In this paper we study the graded identities of block-triangular matrices with the grading inherited by the grading of $M_n(F)$. We show that its graded identities follow from the graded identities of $M_n(F)$ and from its monomial identities of degree up to $2n-2$. In the case of blocks of sizes $n-1$ and 1, we give a complete description of its monomial identities…
Let A be any associative algebra graded by a finite abelian group G, then if we denote by GKdim_k(A) and GKdim^G_k (A) the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of its relatively free algebra and its relatively free G-graded algebra in k variables respectively, then GKdim_k(A)\leq GKdim^G_k (A). We show a counterexample of the previous result for Jordan algebras (hence non-associative). In particular, there exists a $Z_2$-grading on $UJ_n$, the Jordan algebra of $n\times n$ upper triangular matrices, n equal to 2 or 3, such that the previous inequality does not hold.
We prove that every multiplicative bijective map, Jordan bijective map, and Jordan triple bijective map from a triangular algebra onto any ring is automatically additive.
Let C be a commutative ring with unity. In this article, we show that every Jordan derivation over an upper triangular matrix algebra T_n(C) is an inner derivation. Further, we extend the result for Jordan derivation on full matrix algebra M_n(C).
In this paper we explore graded algebras of quotients of Lie algebras with special emphasis on the 3-graded case and answer some natural questions concerning its relation to maximal Jordan systems of quotients.
We extend the loop algebra construction for algebras graded by abelian groups to study graded-simple algebras over the field of real numbers (or any real closed field). As an application, we classify up to isomorphism the graded-simple alternative (nonassociative) algebras and graded-simple finite-dimensional Jordan algebras of degree 2. We also classify the graded-division alternative (nonassociative) algebras up to equivalence.
Let $F$ be an infinite field and $UT(d_1,\dots, d_n)$ be the algebra of upper block-triangular matrices over $F$. In this paper we describe a basis for the $G$-graded polynomial identities of $UT(d_1,\dots, d_n)$, with an elementary grading induced by an $n$-tuple of elements of a group $G$ such that the neutral component corresponds to the diagonal of $UT(d_1,\dots,d_n)$. In particular, we prove that the monomial identities of such algebra follow from the ones of degree up to $2n-1$. Our results generalize for infinite fields of arbitrary characteristic, previous results in the literature whi…
A geometric realization of the projective completion of the Jordan pair corresponding to a three-graded Lie algebra is given which permits to develop a geometric structure theory of the projective completion. This will be used in Part II of this work to define a manifold structure on the projective completion (in arbitrary dimension and over quite general base fields and -rings).
The paper gives an introduction to Steinberg groups for root graded Jordan pairs, a theory developed in the recent book "Steinberg groups for Jordan pairs" by Ottmar Loos and the author.
Motivated by the works of Wang [Y. Wang, \textit{Lie (Jordan) derivations of arbitrary triangular algebras,} Aequationes Mathematicae, \textbf{93} (2019), 1221-1229] and Moafian et al. [F. Moafian and H. R. Ebrahimi Vishki, \textit{Lie higher derivations on triangular algebras revisited,} Filomat, \textbf{30}(12) (2016), 3187-3194.], we shall study Lie higher derivations of arbitrary triangular algebras. In fact, it is shown that every Lie higher derivation on an arbitrary triangular algebra is proper, using the notion of maximal left (right) ring of quotients.
Let $K$ be a field of characteristic zero and $V$ a vector space of dimension $m>1$ with a nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form $f:V\times V \rightarrow K$. The Jordan algebra $B_m=K\oplus V$ of the form $f$ is a superalgebra with this decomposition. We prove that the ideal of all the $2$-graded identities of $B_m$ satisfies the Specht property and we compute the $2$-graded cocharacter sequence of $B_m$.
Let $\mathfrak{A}$ be a unital ring with a nontrivial idempotent. In this paper, it is shown that under certain conditions every multiplicative generalized Jordan $n$-derivation $Δ:\mathfrak{A}\rightarrow\mathfrak{A}$ is additive. More precisely, it is proved that $Δ$ is of the form $Δ(t)=μt+δ(t),$ where $μ\in\mathcal{Z}(\mathfrak{A})$ and $δ:\mathfrak{A}\rightarrow\mathfrak{A}$ is a Jordan $n$-derivation. The main result is then applied to some classical examples of unital rings with nontrivial idempotents such as triangular rings, matrix rings, prime rings, nest algebras, standard operator a…
We show that if a non-associative unital ring is graded by a hypercentral group, then the ring is simple if and only if it is graded simple and the center of the ring is a field. Thereby, we extend a result by Jespers to a non-associative setting. By applying this result to non-associative crossed products, we obtain non-associative analogues of results by Bell, Jordan and Voskoglou. We also apply our result to Cayley-Dickson doublings, thereby obtaining a new proof of a classical result by McCrimmon.
The notion of f-derivations was introduced by Beidar and Fong to unify several kinds of linear maps including derivations, Lie derivations and Jordan derivations. In this paper we introduce the notion of f-biderivations as a natural "biderivation" counterpart of the notion of "f-derivations". We first show, under some conditions, that any f-derivation is a Jordan biderivation. Then, we turn to study f-biderivations of a unital algebra with an idempotent. Our second main result shows, under some conditions, that every Jordan biderivation can be written as a sum of a biderivation, an antibideriv…
Let E be the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra over a field F of characteristic 0. In this paper we compute the ordinary and the Z/2Z-graded cocharacters of the algebra of 2x2 upper triangular matrices with coefficients in E, using the tool of proper Hilbert series.
Superinvolutions on graded associative algebras constitute a source of Lie and Jordan superalgebras. Graded versions of the classical Albert and Albert-Riehm Theorems on the existence of superinvolutions are proven. Surprisingly, the existence of superinvolutions of the first kind is a rare phenomenon, as nontrivial central division superalgebras are never endowed with this kind of superinvolutions.
In positive characteristic the Jordan plane covers a finite-dimensional Nichols algebra that was described by Cibils, Lauve and Witherspoon and we call the restricted Jordan plane. In this paper the characteristic is odd. The defining relations of the Drinfeld double of the restricted Jordan plane are presented and its simple modules are determined. A Hopf algebra that deserves the name of double of the Jordan plane is introduced and various quantum Frobenius maps are described. The finite-dimensional pre-Nichols algebras intermediate between the Jordan plane and its restricted version are cla…
Axial algebras are a class of non-associative commutative algebras whose properties are defined in terms of a fusion law. When this fusion law is graded, the algebra has a naturally associated group of automorphisms and thus axial algebras are inherently related to group theory. Examples include most Jordan algebras and the Griess algebra for the Monster sporadic simple group. In this survey, we introduce axial algebras, discuss their structural properties and then concentrate on two specific classes: algebras of Jordan and Monster type, which are rich in examples related to simple groups.
