The recent discoveries of strikingly large zero-field Hall and Nernst effects in antiferromagnets Mn$_3$$X$, ($X$ = Sn, Ge) have brought the study of magnetic topological states to the forefront of condensed matter research and technological innovation. These effects are considered fingerprints of Weyl nodes residing near the Fermi energy, promoting Mn$_3$$X$, ($X$ = Sn, Ge) as a fascinating platform to explore the elusive magnetic Weyl fermions. In this review, we provide recent updates on the insights drawn from experimental and theoretical studies of Mn$_3$$X$, ($X$ = Sn, Ge) by combining previous reports with our new, comprehensive set of transport measurements of high-quality Mn$_3$Sn and Mn$_3$Ge single crystals. In particular, we report magnetotransport signatures specific to chiral anomalies in Mn$_3$Ge and planar Hall effect in Mn$_3$Sn, which have not yet been found in earlier studies. The results summarized here indicate the essential role of magnetic Weyl fermions in producing the large transverse responses in the absence of magnetization.
Recently, the topological nature of an antiferromagnet YbMnBi2 has been controversial. YbMnBi2 is regarded as a candidate of Type-II Weyl semimetals with magnetic moments of Mn atoms canting about 10° in some studies but as a Dirac semimetal without canting in others. By means of systematical density functional theory calculations, we show the perfect YbMnBi2 bulk has a collinear antiferromagnetic ordering and, naturally, it is a Dirac semimetal. Considering the vital role of magnetic moment canting in generating the Type-II Weyl state, we artificially cant the magnetic moments of Mn atoms and…
Combining magnetism with band topology provides various novel phases that are otherwise impossible. Among several cases, noncollinear metallic antiferromagnets can reveal particularly rich topological physics due to their diverse magnetic ground states. However, there are only a few experimental studies due to the lack of suitable materials, especially with triangular lattice antiferromagnets. Here, we report that metallic triangular antiferromagnet Co1/3TaS2 exhibits a substantial anomalous Hall effect (AHE) related to its noncollinear magnetic order. Our first-principles calculations found t…
The Weyl antiferromagnet Mn$_3$Sn has recently attracted significant attention as it exhibits various useful functions such as large anomalous Hall effect that are normally absent in antiferromagnets. Here we report the thin film fabrication of the single phase of Mn$_3$Sn and the observation of the large anomalous Hall effect at room temperature despite its vanishingly small magnetization. Our work on the high-quality thin film growth of the Weyl antiferromagnet paves the path for developing the antiferromagnetic spintronics.

The origin of anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in magnetic materials is one of the most intriguing aspect in condensed matter physics and has been controversial for a long time. Recent studies indicate that the intrinsic AHE is closely related to the Berry curvature of occupied electronic states. In a magnetic Weyl semimetal with broken time-reversal symmetry, there are significant contributions on Berry curvature around Weyl nodes, which would lead to a large intrinsic AHE. Here, we report the large intrinsic AHE in the half-metallic ferromagnet Co3Sn2S2 single crystal. By systematically mapping o…
Recent experiments revealed that Mn3Sn and Mn3Ge exhibit a strong anomalous Hall effect at room temperature, provoking us to explore their electronic structures for topological properties. By ab initio band structure calculations, we have observed the existence of multiple Weyl points in the bulk and corresponding Fermi arcs on the surface, predicting antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetals in Mn3Ge and Mn3Sn. Here the chiral antiferromagnetism in the Kagome-type lattice structure is essential to determine the positions and numbers of Weyl points. Our work further reveals a new guiding principle to …
We investigate the pressure evolution of the anomalous Hall effect in magnetic topological semimetal Co3Sn2S2 in diamond anvil cells with pressures up to 44.9-50.9 GPa. No evident trace of structural phase transition is detected through synchrotron x-ray diffraction over the measured pressure range of 0.2-50.9 GPa. We find that the anomalous Hall resistivity and the ferromagnetism are monotonically suppressed as increasing pressure and almost vanish around 22 GPa. The anomalous Hall conductivity varies non-monotonically against pressure at low temperatures, involving competition between origin…
Magnetic topological materials, which combine magnetism and topology, are expected to host emerging topological states and exotic quantum phenomena. In this study, with the aid of greatly enhanced coercive fields in high-quality nanoflakes of the magnetic Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2, we investigate anomalous electronic transport properties that are difficult to reveal in bulk Co3Sn2S2 or other magnetic materials. When the magnetization is antiparallel to the applied magnetic field, the low longitudinal resistance state occurs, which is in sharp contrast to the high resistance state for the paralle…
We investigate novel topological magnon band crossings of pyrochlore antiferromagnets with all-in-all-out (AIAO) magnetic order. By general symmetry analysis and spin-wave theory, we show that pyrochlore materials with AIAO orders can host Weyl magnons under external magnetic fields or uniaxial strains. Under a small magnetic field, the magnon bands of the pyrochlore with AIAO background can feature two opposite-charged Weyl points, which is the minimal number of Weyl points realizable in quantum materials and has not be experimentally observed so far. We further show that breathing pyrochlore…
The external field control of antiferromagnetism is a significant subject both for basic science and technological applications. As a useful macroscopic response to detect magnetic states, the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is known for ferromagnets, but it has never been observed in antiferromagnets until the recent discovery in Mn3Sn. Here we report another example of the AHE in a related antiferromagnet, namely, in the hexagonal chiral antiferromagnet Mn3Ge. Our single-crystal study reveals that Mn3Ge exhibits a giant anomalous Hall conductivity $|σ_{xz}|$ ~ 60 per ohm per cm at room temperatu…
Topology and strong electron correlations are crucial ingredients in emerging quantum materials, yet their intersection in experimental systems has been relatively limited to date. Strongly correlated Weyl semimetals, particularly when magnetism is incorporated, offer a unique and fertile platform to explore emergent phenomena in novel topological matter and topological spintronics. The antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetal Mn3Sn exhibits many exotic physical properties such as a large spontaneous Hall effect and has recently attracted intense interest. In this work, we report synthesis of epitaxia…
Antiferromagnetic spin motion at terahertz (THz) frequencies attracts growing interests for fast spintronics, however their smaller responses to external field inhibit device application. Recently the noncollinear antiferromagnet Mn$_3$Sn, a Weyl semimetal candidate, was reported to show large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) at room temperature comparable to ferromagnets. Dynamical aspect of such large responses is an important issue to be clarified for future THz data processing. Here the THz anomalous Hall conductivity in Mn$_3$Sn thin films is investigated by polarization-resolved spectroscopy.…
Weyl semimetals are characterized by the presence of massless band dispersion in momentum space. When a Weyl semimetal meets magnetism, large anomalous transport properties emerge as a consequence of its topological nature. Here, using $in-situ$ spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy combined with $ab\ initio$ calculations, we visualize the spin-polarized Weyl cone and flat-band surface states of ferromagnetic Co$_2$MnGa films with full remanent magnetization. We demonstrate that the anomalous Hall and Nernst conductivities systematically grow when the magnetization-induced massiv…

We point out that, contrary to an assertion by Chen, Bergman and Burkov [Phys. Rev. B 88, 125110 (2013)], the non-quantized part of the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity can indeed be expressed as a Fermi-surface property even when Weyl points are present in the bandstructure.
We study the second-order nonlinear optical response of a Weyl semimetal (WSM), i.e. a three-dimensional metal with linear band touchings acting as point-like sources of Berry curvature in momentum space, termed "Weyl-Berry monopoles". We first show that the anomalous second-order photocurrent of WSMs can be elegantly parametrized in terms of Weyl-Berry dipole and quadrupole moments. We then calculate the corresponding charge and node conductivities of WSMs with either broken time-reversal invariance or inversion symmetry. In particular, we predict a universal dissipationless second-order anom…
Weyl semimetals are promising quantum materials that offer unique topological properties. Lately, it has been shown that laser-driven electron dynamics have characteristic signatures in two-dimensional and three-dimensional Dirac semimetals. The transition from Dirac to Weyl semimetal requires the breaking of either inversion or time-reversal symmetry. The present work shows that the laser-driven electron dynamics in a Weyl semimetal with broken time-reversal symmetry has intriguing features in its high-harmonic spectrum. It is found that the parity and magnitude of the non-zero Berry curvatur…
The anomalous Hall effect in the noncollinear antiferromagnetic metals Mn(3)Ge and Mn(3)Sn has been observed after a theoretical prediction made by us (EPL, 108, 67001 (2014)). The experimental values of the anomalous Hall conductivities (AHC) are large as are the theoretical values. Recently measured thermoelectric properties mirror the large AHC and clearly show that the transport is by quasiparticles at the Fermi energy. We here make an attempt to unravel the origin of the large AHC and propose that both Mn(3)Sn and Mn(3)Ge host Weyl points, which were recently discovered in semimetals. For…
We predict a magnetic Weyl semimetal in the inverse Heusler Ti2MnAl, a compensated ferrimagnet with a vanishing net magnetic moment and a Curie temperature of over 650 K. Despite the vanishing net magnetic moment, we calculate a large intrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE) of about 300 S/cm. It derives from the Berry curvature distribution of the Weyl points, which are only 14 meV away from the Fermi level and isolated from trivial bands. Different from antiferromagnets Mn3X (X= Ge, Sn, Ga, Ir, Rh, and Pt), where the AHE originates from the non-collinear magnetic structure, the AHE in Ti2MnAl s…
The interplay between magnetism, band topology, and electronic correlation in low dimensions has been a fascinating subject of research. Here, we propose two-dimensional (2D) material systems which demonstrate such an interesting interplay. Based on first-principles calculations and structural search algorithms, we identify three lowest energy 2D CoSe structures, termed as the $α$-, $β$-, and $γ$-CoSe. {We show that $α$- and $β$-CoSe are two rare examples of 2D antiferromagnetic metals, which are related to their Fermi surfaces nesting features, and meanwhile, $γ$-CoSe is a ferromagnetic metal…
Topological insulators, in contrast to ordinary semiconductors, accompany protected metallic surfaces described by Dirac-type fermions. Here, we theoretically show another emergent two-dimensional metal embedded in the bulk insulator is realized at a magnetic domain wall. The domain wall has long been studied as ingredients of both old-fashioned and leading-edge spintronics. The domain wall here, as an interface of seemingly trivial antiferromagnetic insulators, emergently realizes a functional interface preserved by zero modes with robust two-dimensional Fermi surfaces, where pyrochlore iridi…
Based on high-throughput first-principles calculations, we evaluated the anomalous Hall and anomalous Nernst conductivities of 266 transition-metal-based ferromagnetic compounds. Detailed analysis based on the symmetries and Berry curvatures reveals that the origin of singular-like behaviour of anomalous Hall/Nernst conductivities can be mostly attributed to the appearance of Weyl nodes or nodal lines located in the proximity of the Fermi energy, which can be further tailored by external stimuli such as biaxial strains and magnetic fields. Moreover, such calculations are enabled by the automat…
We theoretically study the interplay between bulk Weyl electrons and magnetic topological defects, including magnetic domains, domain walls, and $\mathbb{Z}_6$ vortex lines, in the antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetals \mnsn\ and Mn$_3$Ge with negative vector chirality. We argue that these materials possess a hierarchy of energies scales which allows a description of the spin structure and spin dynamics using a XY model with $\mathbb{Z}_6$ anisotropy. We propose a dynamical equation of motion for the XY order parameter, which implies the presence of $\mathbb{Z}_6$ vortex lines, the double-domain p…
We predict a large anomalous Nernst effect in the inverse Heusler compensated ferrimagnets Ti$_2$Mn$X$ ($X$=Al,Ga,In) with vanishing net magnetic moments. Though the net magnetic moment is zero, the Weyl points in these systems lead to a large anomalous Nernst conductivity (ANC) due to the lack of a magnetic sublattice that inverses the sign of the Berry curvature. In comparison to the noncollinear antiferromagnets Mn$_3$Sn and Mn$_3$Ge, the high ANC stems almost entirely from the Weyl points in this class of compounds, and thus, it is topologically protected. This work shows for the first tim…
A magnetic Weyl semimetal is a recent focus of extensive research as it may exhibit large and robust transport phenomena associated with topologically protected Weyl points in momentum space. Since a magnetic texture provides a handle for the configuration of the Weyl points and its transport response, understanding of magnetic dynamics should form a basis of future control of a topological magnet. Mn3Sn is an example of an antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetal that exhibits a large response comparable to the one observed in ferromagnets despite a vanishingly small magnetization. The non-collinear …

Most canted antiferromagnets are also anomalous Hall antiferromagnets (AHE AFMs), i.e. they have an anomalous Hall response and other responses with the same symmetry requirements. We suggest that AHE AFMs are promising materials as hosts for high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall effects. By considering models of two-dimensional (001) perovskite layers with strong spin-orbit coupling that isolates an effective total angular momentum $\tilde{j}= \frac{1}{2}$ subspace of the $t_{2g}$ manifold, we propose a strategy to engineering quantum anomalous Hall antiferromagnets.
Weyl semimetals (WSM) have been extensively studied due to their exotic properties such as topological surface states and anomalous transport phenomena. Their band structure topology is usually predetermined by material parameters and can hardly be manipulated once the material is formed. Their unique transport properties appear usually at very low temperature, which sets challenges for practical device applications. In this work, we demonstrate a way to modify the band topology via a weak magnetic field in a ferromagnetic topological semimetal, Co2MnAl, at room temperature. We observe a tunab…
Electrical manipulation of emergent phenomena due to nontrivial band topology is a key to realize next-generation technology using topological protection. A Weyl semimetal is a three-dimensional gapless system that hosts Weyl fermions as low-energy quasiparticles. It exhibits various exotic phenomena such as large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) and chiral anomaly, which have robust properties due to the topologically protected Weyl nodes. To manipulate such phenomena, the magnetic version of Weyl semimetals would be useful as a magnetic texture may provide a handle for controlling the locations o…
We perform classical Monte Carlo and stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert simulations to study temperature dependent magnetism of Kagome antiferromagnet (AFM) Weyl metal $\text{Mn}_3\text{Ge}$ and find that a long range chiral order sets in at a transition temperature well below the N{é}el temperature ($T_N$). Based on the crystalline symmetries, imposed by the chiral magnetic order, we argue for the presence of multiple iso-energetic Weyl nodes (nodes that are at same energy and with congruent Fermi surface around them) near chemical potential. Using the semi-classical Boltzmann equations, we s…
We study the ac anomalous Hall conductivity $σ_{xy}(ω)$ of a Weyl semimetal with broken time-reversal symmetry. Even in the absence of free carriers these materials exhibit a "universal" anomalous Hall response determined solely by the locations of the Weyl nodes. We show that the free carriers, which are generically present in an undoped Weyl semimetal, give an additional contribution to the ac Hall conductivity. We elucidate the physical mechanism of the effect and develop a microscopic theory of the free carrier contribution to $σ_{xy}(ω)$. The latter can be expressed in terms of a small nu…
The non-collinear antiferromagnetic (AFM) structure makes Mn3Sn exhibit exotic properties. At present, it has been found that both the hydrostatic pressure and the strain introduced by interstitial N atoms have a great influence on this magnetic structure. Here, the effect of the residual strain (RS) on it is investigated. AC and DC magnetic measurement results suggest that Mn3Sn without RS has the non-collinear AFM structure only in the temperature range of 285 K to 400 K; while Mn3Sn with RS has a non-coplanar AFM structure in the entire temperature range from 5 K to 400 K. Both anomalous Ha…
Topological materials ranging from topological insulators to Weyl and Dirac semimetals form one of the most exciting current fields in condensed-matter research. Many half-Heusler compounds, RPtBi (R= rare earth) have been theoretically predicted to be topological semimetals. Among various topological attributes envisaged in RPtBi, topological surface states, chiral anomaly and planar Hall effect have been observed experimentally. Here, we report on an unusual intrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the antiferromagnetic Heusler Weyl semimetal compounds GdPtBi and NdPtBi that is observed over…
The anomalous Hall effect (AHE), a Hall signal occurring without an external magnetic field, is one of the most significant phenomena. However, understanding the AHE mechanism has been challenging and largely restricted to ferromagnetic metals. Here, we investigate the recently discovered AHE in the chiral antiferromagnet Mn3Sn by measuring a thermal analog of the AHE, known as an anomalous thermal Hall effect (ATHE). The amplitude of the ATHE scales with the anomalous Hall conductivity of Mn3Sn over a wide temperature range, demonstrating that the AHE of Mn3Sn arises from a dissipationless in…
Anomalous Hall effect (AHE) can be induced by intrinsic mechanism due to the band Berry phase and extrinsic one arising from the impurity scattering. The recently discovered magnetic Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2 exhibits a large intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) and a giant anomalous Hall angle (AHA). The predicted energy dependence of the AHC in this material exhibits a plateau at 1000 Ω-1 cm-1 and an energy width of 100 meV just below EF, thereby implying that the large intrinsic AHC will not significantly change against small-scale energy disturbances such as slight p-doping. Here, we …
We search for dynamical magnetoelectric phenomena in three-dimensional correlated systems with spin-orbit coupling. We focus on the antiferromagnetic insulator phases where the dynamical axion field is realized by the fluctuation of the antiferromagnetic order parameter. It is shown that the dynamical chiral magnetic effect, an alternating current generation by magnetic fields, emerges due to the time dependences of the order parameter such as antiferromagnetic resonance. It is also shown that the anomalous Hall effect arises due to the spatial variations of the order parameter such as antifer…
We propose a new topological quantum state of matter---the two-dimensional (2D) Weyl half semimetal (WHS), which features 2D Weyl points at Fermi level belonging to a single spin channel, such that the low-energy electrons are described by fully spin-polarized 2D Weyl fermions. We predict its realization in the ground state of monolayer PtCl$_3$. We show that the material is a half metal with an in-plane magnetization, and its Fermi surface consists of a pair of fully spin-polarized Weyl points protected by a mirror symmetry, which are robust against spin-orbit coupling. Remarkably, we show th…
Topological materials have recently attracted considerable attention among materials scientists as their properties are predicted to be protected against perturbations such as lattice distortion and chemical substitution. However, any experimental proof of such robustness is still lacking. In this study, we experimentally demonstrate that the topological properties of the ferromagnetic kagome compound Co3Sn2S2 are preserved upon Ni substitution. We systematically vary the Ni content in Co3Sn2S2 single crystals and study their magnetic and anomalous transport properties. For the intermediate Ni…
The recent discovery of magnetic Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2 opens up new avenues for research into the interactions between topological orders, magnetism, and electronic correlations. Motivated by the observations of large anomalous Hall effect because of large Berry curvature, we investigate another Berry curvature-induced phenomenon, the anomalous thermal Hall effect in Co3Sn2S2. We study it with and without strain, using a Wannier tight-binding Hamiltonian derived from first principles density functional theory calculations. We first identify this material as a tilted type-I Weyl semimetal bas…
In ferromagnetic solids, even in absence of magnetic field, a transverse voltage can be generated by a longitudinal temperature gradient. This thermoelectric counterpart of the Anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is dubbed the Anomalous Nernst effect (ANE). Expected to scale with spontaneous magnetization, both these effects arise because of the Berry curvature at the Fermi energy. Here, we report the observation of a giant ANE in a newly-discovered magnetic Weyl semimetal Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ crystal. Hall resistivity and Nernst signal both show sharp jumps at a threshold field and exhibit a clear hyste…
We report measurement of terahertz anomalous Hall conductivity and Faraday rotation in the magnetic Weyl semimetal Co$_2$MnGa thin films as a function of the magnetic field, temperature and thickness, using time-domain terahertz spectroscopy. The terahertz conductivity shows a thickness-independent anomalous Hall conductivity of around 600 $Ω^{-1}\cdot cm^{-1}$ at room temperature, and it is also frequency-independent from 0.2-1.5 THz. The magnitude of the longitudinal and Hall conductivities, the weak spin-orbit coupling, and the very close positioning of Weyl points to the chemical potential…
