We construct the integrated density of states of the Anderson Hamiltonian with two-dimensional white noise by proving the convergence of the Dirichlet eigenvalue counting measures associated with the Anderson Hamiltonians on the boxes. We also determine the logarithmic asymptotics of the left tail of the integrated density of states. Furthermore, we apply our result to a moment explosion of the parabolic Anderson model in the plane.
We consider the random Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{R}$ obtained by perturbing the Laplacian with a white noise. We prove that Anderson localization holds for this operator: almost surely the spectral measure is pure point and the eigenfunctions are exponentially localized. We give two separate proofs of this result. We also present a detailed construction of the operator and relate it to the parabolic Anderson model. Finally, we discuss the case where the noise is smoothed out.
In this work we consider the Anderson model on $\ell^2(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ when the single site distribution (SSD) is given by $μ_1 * μ_2$, where $μ_1$ is the Cauchy distribution and $μ_2$ is any probability measure. For this model we prove that the integrated density of states (IDS) is infinitely differentiable irrespective of the disorder strength. Also, we investigate the local eigenvalue statistics of this model in $d\ge 2$, without any assumption on the localization property.
In this paper we consider the Anderson Hamiltonian with white noise potential on the box $[0,L]^2$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that all the eigenvalues divided by $\log L$ converge as $L\rightarrow \infty$ almost surely to the same deterministic constant, which is given by a variational formula.
We construct the continuous Anderson hamiltonian on $(-L,L)^d$ driven by a white noise and endowed with either Dirichlet or periodic boundary conditions. Our construction holds in any dimension $d\le 3$ and relies on the theory of regularity structures: it yields a self-adjoint operator in $L^2\big((-L,L)^d\big)$ with pure point spectrum. In $d\ge 2$, a renormalisation of the operator by means of infinite constants is required to compensate for ill-defined products involving functionals of the white noise. We also obtain left tail estimates on the distributions of the eigenvalues: in particula…
We study the non-stationary Anderson parabolic problem on the lattice $Z^d$, i.e., the equation \begin{equation}\label{andersonmodel} \begin{aligned} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} &=\varkappa \mathcal{A}u(t,x)+ξ_{t}(x)u(t,x) u(0,x) &\equiv 1, \, (t,x) \in [0,\infty)\times Z^d. \end{aligned} \end{equation} Here $\mathcal{A}$ is non-local Laplacian, $ξ_t (x), \ t \geq 0, \ x \in Z^d$ is the family of the correlated white noises and $\varkappa >0$ is the diffusion coefficient. The changes of $\varkappa$ (large versus small) are responsible for the qualitative phase transition in the model. At the…
Let $ξ$ be a Gaussian white noise on $\mathbb R^d$ ($d=1,2,3$). Let $(ξ_\varepsilon)_{\varepsilon>0}$ be continuous Gaussian processes such that $ξ_\varepsilon\toξ$ as $\varepsilon\to0$, defined by convolving $ξ$ against a mollifier. We consider the asymptotics of the parabolic Anderson model (PAM) with noise $ξ_{\varepsilon(t)}$ for large time $t\gg1$, and the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the Anderson Hamiltonian (AH) with potential $ξ_{\varepsilon(t)}$ on large boxes $(-t,t)^d$, where the parameter $\varepsilon(t)$ vanishes as $t\to\infty$. We prove that the asymptotics in question exhibit a pha…
Even though the heat equation with random potential is a well-studied object, the particular case of time-independent Gaussian white noise in one space dimension has yet to receive the attention it deserves. The paper investigates the stochastic heat equation with space-only Gaussian white noise on a bounded interval. The main result is that the space-time regularity of the solution is the same for additive noise and for multiplicative noise in the Wick-Itô-Skorokhod interpretation.
We consider the one-dimensional random Schrodinger operator H = H_0 + sigma V, where the potential V has i.i.d. entries with bounded support. We prove that the IDS is Holder continuous with exponent 1-c sigma This improves upon the work of Bourgain showing that the Holder exponent tends to 1 as sigma tends to 0 in the more specific Anderson-Bernoulli setting.
Partially motivated by the recent papers of Conus, Joseph and Khoshnevisan [Ann. Probab. 41 (2013) 2225-2260] and Conus et al. [Probab. Theory Related Fields 156 (2013) 483-533], this work is concerned with the precise spatial asymptotic behavior for the parabolic Anderson equation \[\cases{\displaystyle {\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}}(t,x)={\frac{1}{2}}Δu(t,x)+V(t,x)u(t,x),\cr u(0,x)=u_0(x),}\] where the homogeneous generalized Gaussian noise $V(t,x)$ is, among other forms, white or fractional white in time and space. Associated with the Cole-Hopf solution to the KPZ equation, in particular, …
In this paper, we present a rate of convergence in the uniform norm for the densities of spatial averages of the solution to the d-dimensional parabolic Anderson model driven by a Gaussian multiplicative noise, which is white in time and has a spatial covariance given by the Riesz kernel. The proof is based on the combination of Malliavin calculus techniques and the Stein's method for normal approximations.
We prove the existence and establish the Lifschitz singularity of the integrated density of states for certain random Hamiltonians $H^ω=H_0+V^ω$ on fractal spaces of infinite diameter. The kinetic term $H_0$ is given by $ϕ(-\mathcal L),$ where $\mathcal L$ is the Laplacian on the fractal and $ϕ$ is a completely monotone function satisfying some mild regularity conditions. The random potential $V^ω$ is of alloy-type.
We study the parabolic Anderson model (PAM) \begin{equation} {\partial \over \partial t}u(t,x) =\frac{1}{2}Δu(t,x) + u(t,x)ξ(x), \quad t>0, x\in \mathbb{R}^d, \quad \text{and} \quad u(0,x) \equiv 1, \quad \forall x\in \mathbb{R}^d, \end{equation} where $ξ$ is spatial white noise on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d \in\{2,3\}$. We show that the peaks of the PAM are macroscopically multifractal. More precisely, we prove that the spatial peaks of the PAM have infinitely many distinct values and we compute the macroscopic Hausdorff dimension (introduced by Barlow and Taylor) of those peaks. As a byproduct, …
The aim of this paper is to establish the almost sure asymptotic behavior as the space variable becomes large, for the solution to the one spatial dimensional stochastic heat equation driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and which has the covariance structure of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4 and less than 1/2 in the space variable.
We consider the continuous Anderson Hamiltonian with white noise potential on $(-L/2,L/2)^d$ in dimension $d\le 3$, and derive the asymptotic of the smallest eigenvalues when $L$ goes to infinity. We show that these eigenvalues go to $-\infty$ at speed $(\log L)^{1/(2-d/2)}$ and identify the prefactor in terms of the optimal constant of the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality. This result was already known in dimensions $1$ and $2$, but appears to be new in dimension $3$. We present some conjectures on the fluctuations of the eigenvalues and on the asymptotic shape of the corresponding eigenfunctio…
We introduce a random differential operator, that we call the $\mathtt{CS}_τ$ operator, whose spectrum is given by the $\mbox{Sch}_τ$ point process introduced by Kritchevski, Valkó and Virág (2012) and whose eigenvectors match with the description provided by Rifkind and Virág (2018). This operator acts on $\mathbf{R}^2$-valued functions from the interval $[0,1]$ and takes the form: $$ 2 \begin{pmatrix} 0 & -\partial_t \\ \partial_t & 0 \end{pmatrix} + \sqrtτ \begin{pmatrix} d\mathcal{B} + \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_1 & \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_2\\ \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_2 & d\math…
We define the Anderson hamiltonian on the two dimensional torus $\mathbb R^2/\mathbb Z^2$. This operator is formally defined as $\mathscr H:= -Δ+ ξ$ where $Δ$ is the Laplacian operator and where $ξ$ belongs to a general class of singular potential which includes the Gaussian white noise distribution. We use the notion of paracontrolled distribution as introduced by Gubinelli, Imkeller and Perkowski in [14]. We are able to define the Schrödinger operator $\mathscr H$ as an unbounded self-adjoint operator on $L^2(\mathbb T^2)$ and we prove that its real spectrum is discrete with no accumulation …
This paper studies the one-dimensional parabolic Anderson model driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and has the covariance of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H \in (\frac{1}{4}, \frac{1}{2})$ in the space variable. We derive the Wiener chaos expansion of the solution and a Feynman-Kac formula for the moments of the solution. These results allow us to establish sharp lower and upper asymptotic bounds for the $n$th moment of the solution.
In this article, we study the stochastic wave equation in arbitrary spatial dimension $d$, with a multiplicative term of the form $σ(u)=u$, also known in the literature as the Hyperbolic Anderson Model. This equation is perturbed by a general Gaussian noise, which is homogeneous in both space and time. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution of this equation (in the Skorohod sense) and the Hölder continuity of its sample paths, under the same respective conditions on the spatial spectral measure of the noise as in the case of the white noise in time, regardless of the temporal cova…
We introduce an approach to study certain singular PDEs which is based on techniques from paradifferential calculus and on ideas from the theory of controlled rough paths. We illustrate its applicability on some model problems like differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion, a fractional Burgers type SPDE driven by space-time white noise, and a non-linear version of the parabolic Anderson model with a white noise potential.
We construct solutions of a renormalized continuum fractional parabolic Anderson model, formally given by $\partial_t u=-(-Δ)^{1/2}u+ξu$, where $ξ$ is a periodic spatial white noise. To be precise, we construct limits as $\varepsilon\to 0$ to solutions of $\partial_t u_\varepsilon=-(-Δ)^{1/2}u_\varepsilon+(ξ_\varepsilon-C_\varepsilon)u_\varepsilon$, where $ξ_\varepsilon$ is a mollification of $ξ$ at scale $\varepsilon$ and $C_\varepsilon$ is a logarithmically diverging renormalization constant. We use a simple renormalization scheme based on that of Hairer and Labbé, "A simple construction of …
We study the bottom of the spectrum of the Anderson Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_L := -\partial_x^2 + ξ$ on $[0,L]$ driven by a white noise $ξ$ and endowed with either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We show that, as $L\rightarrow\infty$, the point process of the (appropriately shifted and rescaled) eigenvalues converges to a Poisson point process on $\mathbb{R}$ with intensity $e^x dx$, and that the (appropriately rescaled) eigenfunctions converge to Dirac masses located at independent and uniformly distributed points. Furthermore, we show that the shape of each eigenfunction, recentere…
In this paper we study the linear stochastic heat equation, also known as parabolic Anderson model, in multidimension driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and it has a correlated spatial covariance. Examples of such covariance include the Riesz kernel in any dimension and the covariance of the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in (\frac 14, \frac 12]$ in dimension one. First we establish the existence of a unique mild solution and we derive a Feynman-Kac formula for its moments using a family of independent Brownian bridges and assuming a general integrability con…
We investigate the behavior of the spectrum of the continuous Anderson Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_L$, with white noise potential, on a segment whose size $L$ is sent to infinity. We zoom around energy levels $E$ either of order $1$ (Bulk regime) or of order $1\ll E \ll L$ (Crossover regime). We show that the point process of (appropriately rescaled) eigenvalues and centers of mass converge to a Poisson point process. We also prove exponential localization of the eigenfunctions at an explicit rate. In addition, we show that the eigenfunctions converge to well-identified limits: in the Crossover r…
In this article, we consider the Parabolic Anderson Model with constant initial condition, driven by a space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise, with general covariance function in time and spatial spectral measure satisfying Dalang's condition. First, we prove that the solution (in the Skorohod sense) exists and is continuous in $L^p(Ω)$. Then, we show that the solution has a modification whose sample paths are Hölder continuous in space and time, with optimal exponents, and under the minimal condition on the spatial spectral measure of the noise (which is the same as the condition encountered i…
In this article, we study the Parabolic Anderson Model driven by a space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise on $\mathbb{R}_{+} \times \mathbb{R}^d$, whose covariance kernels in space and time are locally integrable non-negative functions, which are non-negative definite (in the sense of distributions). We assume that the initial condition is given by a signed Borel measure on $\mathbb{R}^d$, and the spectral measure of the noise satisfies Dalang's (1999) condition. Under these conditions, we prove that this equation has a unique solution, and we investigate the magnitude of the $p$-th moments of …
This paper provides necessary as well as sufficient conditions on the Hurst parameters so that the continuous time parabolic Anderson model $\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=\frac{1}{2}\frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial x^2}+u\dot{W}$ on $[0, \infty)\times {\bf R}^d $ with $d\geq 1$ has a unique random field solution, where $W(t, x)$ is a fractional Brownian sheet on $[0, \infty)\times {\bf R}^d$ and formally $\dot W =\frac{\partial^{d+1}}{\partial t \partial x_1 \cdots \partial x_d} W(t, x)$. When the noise $W(t, x)$ is white in time, our condition is both necessary and sufficient when the initial dat…
In this article, we consider the hyperbolic and parabolic Anderson models in arbitrary space dimension $d$, with constant initial condition, driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time. We consider two spatial covariance structures: (i) the Fourier transform of the spectral measure of the noise is a non-negative locally-integrable function; (ii) $d=1$ and the noise is a fractional Brownian motion in space with index $1/4<H<1/2$. In both cases, we show that there is striking similarity between the Laplace transforms of the second moment of the solutions to these two models. Building on th…
In this article, we consider the stochastic wave equation on the real line driven by a linear multiplicative Gaussian noise, which is white in time and whose spatial correlation corresponds to that of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac14,\frac12)$. Initial data are assumed to be constant. First, we prove that this equation has a unique solution (in the Skorohod sense) and obtain an exponential upper bound for the $p$-th moment of the solution, for any $p\geq 2$. Condition $H>\frac14$ turns out to be necessary for the existence of solution. Secondly, we show that this so…
The optimal stochastic control problem with a quadratic cost functional for linear partial differential equations (PDEs) driven by a state-and control-dependent white noise is formulated and studied. Both finite-and infinite-time horizons are considered. The multi-plicative white noise dynamics of the system give rise to a new phenomenon of singularity to the associated Riccati equation and even to the Lyapunov equation. Well-posedness of both Riccati equation and Lyapunov equation are obtained for the first time. The linear feedback coefficient of the optimal control turns out to be singular …
The main purpose of this paper is to study the problem of determining initial condition of nonlinear parabolic equation from noisy observations of the final condition. We introduce a regularized method to establish an approximate solution. We prove an upper bound on the rate of convergence of the mean integrated squared error.
In this paper, we study the stochastic heat equation with a general multiplicative Gaussian noise that is white in time and colored in space. Both regularity and strict positivity of the densities of the solution have been established. The difficulty, and hence the contribution, of the paper lie in three aspects, which include rough initial conditions, degenerate diffusion coefficient, and weakest possible assumptions on the correlation function of the noise. In particular, our results cover the parabolic Anderson model starting from a Dirac delta initial measure.
In this paper, we consider the one-dimensional stochastic heat equation driven by a space time white noise. In two different scenarios: {\it (i)} initial condition $u_0=1$ and general nonlinear coefficient $σ$ and {\it (ii)}: initial condition $u_0=δ_0$ and $σ(x)=x$ (Parabolic Anderson Model), we establish rates of convergence for the uniform distance between the density of (renormalized) spatial averages and the standard normal density. These results are based on the combination of Stein method for normal approximations and Malliavin calculus techniques. A key ingredient in Case (i) is a new …
