The second-order cone linear complementarity problem (SOCLCP) is a generalization of the classical linear complementarity problem. It has been known that SOCLCP, with the globally uniquely solvable property, is essentially equivalent to a zero-finding problem in which the associated function bears much similarity to the transfer function in model reduction [{\em SIAM J. Sci. Comput.}, 37 (2015), pp.~A2046--A2075]. In this paper, we propose a new rational Krylov subspace method to solve the zero-finding problem for the symmetric and positive definite SOCLCP. The algorithm consists of two stages: first, it relies on an extended Krylov subspace to obtain rough approximations of the zero root, and then applies multiple-pole rational Krylov subspace projections iteratively to acquire an accurate solution. Numerical evaluations on various types of SOCLCP examples demonstrate its efficiency and robustness.
In this paper, we introduce a new kernel function which differs from previous functions, and play an important role for generating a new design of primal-dual interior point algorithms for semidefinite linear complementarity problem. Its properties, allow us a great simplicity for the analysis of interior-point method, therefore the complexity of large-update primal-dual interior point is the best so far. Numerical tests have shown that the use of this function gave a big improvement in the results concerning the time and the number of iterations. so is well promising and perform well enough i…
In classical frameworks as the Euclidean space, positive definite kernels as well as their analytic properties are explicitly available and can be incorporated directly in kernel-based learning algorithms. This is different if the underlying domain is a discrete irregular graph. In this case, respective kernels have to be computed in a preliminary step in order to apply them inside a kernel machine. Typically, such a kernel is given as a matrix function of the graph Laplacian. Its direct calculation leads to a high computational burden if the size of the graph is very large. In this work, we i…
In this paper, we propose a new choice of poles to define reliable rational Krylov methods. These methods are used for approximating function of positive definite matrices. In particular, the fractional power and the fractional resolvent are considered because of their importance in the numerical solution of fractional partial differential equations. The results of the numerical experiments we have carried out on some fractional models confirm that the proposed approach is promising.
For several classes of mathematical models that yield linear systems, the splitting of the matrix into its Hermitian and skew Hermitian parts is naturally related to properties of the underlying model. This is particularly so for discretizations of dissipative Hamiltonian ODEs, DAEs and port Hamiltonian systems where, in addition, the Hermitian part is positive definite or semi-definite. It is then possible to develop short recurrence optimal Krylov subspace methods in which the Hermitian part is used as a preconditioner. In this paper we develop new, right preconditioned variants of this appr…
In this work, we propose a reduced basis method for efficient solution of parametric linear systems. The coefficient matrix is assumed to be a linear matrix-valued function that is symmetric and positive definite for admissible values of the parameter $\mathbfσ\in \mathbb{R}^s$. We propose a solution strategy where one first computes a basis for the appropriate compound Krylov subspace and then uses this basis to compute a subspace solution for multiple $\mathbfσ$. Three kinds of compound Krylov subspaces are discussed. Error estimate is given for the subspace solution from each of these space…
Schwarz Modulus Based Matrix Splittings with Minimal Polynomial Extrapolation Acceleration for linear complementarity problems arising from American option pricing
Evaluating the action of a matrix function on a vector, that is $x=f(\mathcal M)v$, is an ubiquitous task in applications. When $\mathcal M$ is large, one usually relies on Krylov projection methods. In this paper, we provide effective choices for the poles of the rational Krylov method for approximating $x$ when $f(z)$ is either Cauchy-Stieltjes or Laplace-Stieltjes (or, which is equivalent, completely monotonic) and $\mathcal M$ is a positive definite matrix. Relying on the same tools used to analyze the generic situation, we then focus on the case $\mathcal M=I \otimes A - B^T \otimes I$, a…
We consider the iterative solution of regularized saddle-point systems. When the leading block is symmetric and positive semi-definite on an appropriate subspace, Dollar, Gould, Schilders, and Wathen (2006) describe how to apply the conjugate gradient (CG) method coupled with a constraint preconditioner, a choice that has proved to be effective in optimization applications. We investigate the design of constraint-preconditioned variants of other Krylov methods for regularized systems by focusing on the underlying basis-generation process. We build upon principles laid out by Gould, Orban, and …
We discuss different cases of dissipative Hamiltonian differential-algebraic equations and the linear algebraic systems that arise in their linearization or discretization. For each case we give examples from practical applications. An important feature of the linear algebraic systems is that the (non-Hermitian) system matrix has a positive definite or semidefinite Hermitian part. In the positive definite case we can solve the linear algebraic systems iteratively by Krylov subspace methods based on efficient three-term recurrences. We illustrate the performance of these iterative methods on se…
We analyse the calibration of BayesCG under the Krylov prior, a probabilistic numeric extension of the Conjugate Gradient (CG) method for solving systems of linear equations with symmetric positive definite coefficient matrix. Calibration refers to the statistical quality of the posterior covariances produced by a solver. Since BayesCG is not calibrated in the strict existing notion, we propose instead two test statistics that are necessary but not sufficient for calibration: the Z-statistic and the new S-statistic. We show analytically and experimentally that under low-rank approximate Krylov…
The conjugate gradient (CG) method is a classic Krylov subspace method for solving symmetric positive definite linear systems. We introduce an analogous semi-conjugate gradient (SCG) method for unsymmetric positive definite linear systems. Unlike CG, SCG requires the solution of a lower triangular linear system to produce each semi-conjugate direction. We prove that SCG is theoretically equivalent to the full orthogonalization method (FOM), which is based on the Arnoldi process and converges in a finite number of steps. Because SCG's triangular system increases in size each iteration, we study…
In this paper, we are interested in developing an accelerated Difference-of-Convex (DC) programming algorithm based on the exact line search for efficiently solving the Symmetric Eigenvalue Complementarity Problem (SEiCP) and Symmetric Quadratic Eigenvalue Complementarity Problem (SQEiCP). We first proved that any SEiCP is equivalent to SEiCP with symmetric positive definite matrices only. Then, we established DC programming formulations for two equivalent formulations of SEiCP (namely, the logarithmic formulation and the quadratic formulation), and proposed the accelerated DC algorithm (BDCA)…
A generalized skew-symmetric Lanczos bidiagonalization method for computing several extreme eigenpairs of a large skew-symmetric/symmetric positive definite matrix pair
We introduce iterative methods named TriCG and TriMR for solving symmetric quasi-definite systems based on the orthogonal tridiagonalization process proposed by Saunders, Simon and Yip in 1988. TriCG and TriMR are tantamount to preconditioned Block-CG and Block-MINRES with two right-hand sides in which the two approximate solutions are summed at each iteration, but require less storage and work per iteration. We evaluate the performance of TriCG and TriMR on linear systems generated from the SuiteSparse Matrix Collection and from discretized and stablized Stokes equations. We compare TriCG and…

In this paper, fast numerical methods are established for solving a class of time distributed-order and Riesz space fractional diffusion-wave equations. We derive new difference schemes by the weighted and shifted Gr$\ddot{\rm{u}}$nwald formula in time and the fractional centered difference formula in space. The unconditional stability and second-order convergence in time, space and distributed-order of the difference schemes are analyzed. In the one-dimensional case, the Gohberg-Semencul formula utilizing the preconditioned Krylov subspace method is developed to solve the symmetric positive d…
