We provide explicit equations for moduli spaces of Drinfeld shtukas over the projective line with $Γ(N)$, $Γ_1(N)$ and $Γ_0(N)$ level structures, where $N$ is an effective divisor on $\mathbb{P}^1$. If the degree of $N$ is high enough, these moduli spaces are relative surfaces. We study some invariants of the moduli space of shtukas with $Γ_0(N)$ level structure for several degree $4$ divisors on $\mathbb{P}^1$.
We construct certain rational functions (modular units) on the moduli stack of Drinfeld shtukas. The divisors of these rational functions are supported on horospherical divisors of the moduli stack. The key to our construction is a vanishing theorem for shtukas with zeros and poles satisfying certain conditions. Using deformation theory, we calculate the divisors of these rational functions.
Moduli spaces of global $\mathbb G$-shtukas play a crucial role in the Langlands program for function fields. We analyze their functoriality properties following a change of the curve and a change of the group scheme $\mathbb G$ under various aspects. In particular, we prove two finiteness results which are of interest in the study of stratifications of these moduli spaces and which potentially allow the formulation of an analog of the André-Oort conjecture for global $\mathbb G$-shtukas.
In this note we intend to look at the moduli stacks for global $G$-shtukas from a new perspective. We discuss a unifying interpretation of several moduli spaces (stacks) including moduli of global $G$-shtukas and (a variant of the) moduli of Higgs bundles. We view these spaces (stacks) as different fibers of a family over a scheme (stack) locally of finite type. We discuss (a relative version of) the local model theory for this family. We also consider the Hecke stacks over the moduli stack of $G$-shtukas and discuss the corresponding (motivic) Hecke operations.
We give a simple geometric characterization of the locus where the inscribed Banach--Colmez Tangent Spaces of moduli of mixed characteristic local shtukas with one leg and fixed determinant are connected. We conjecture that the structure morphism for the underlying diamond is cohomologically smooth over this locus and, applying the Fargues--Scholze Jacobian criterion, we prove this conjecture in the case of EL infinite level Rapoport--Zink spaces, generalizing a result of Ivanov--Weinstein in the basic case.
Motivated by the question of constructing certain rational functions (modular units) on the moduli stack of Drinfeld shtukas, we introduce the notion of toy shtukas. We prove basic properties of the moduli scheme of toy shtukas. Analogously to horospherical divisors on the moduli stack of Drinfeld shtukas, there are toy horospherical divisors on the moduli scheme of toy shtukas. We describe the space of principal toy horospherical divisors. There is a canonical morphism from the moduli stack of Drinfeld shtukas to the moduli scheme of toy shtukas. Our main result is a description of the space …
For arbitrary reductive groups $G$ defined over a finite field, we decompose Newton strata in the special fiber of moduli spaces of global $G$-shtukas into a product of Rapoport-Zink spaces and Igusa varieties. This allows us to compare the $\ell$-adic cohomology of these spaces together with the various actions on them.
In this paper we give a different proof of a theorem of Paul Breutmann: for a Bruhat-Tits group scheme $\mathcal{H}$ over a smooth projective curve $X$ and a closed embedding into another smooth affine group scheme $\mathcal{G}$, the induced map on the moduli of Shtukas $Sht^{r}_{\mathcal{H}}\to Sht^{r}_{\mathcal{G}}$ is schematic, finite and unramified. This result enables one to define special cycles on the moduli stack of Shtukas.
We study the passage from Drinfeld-A'-modules to Drinfeld-A-modules for a given finite flat inclusion A \subset A'. We show that this defines a morphism from the moduli space of Drinfeld-A'-modules to the moduli space of Drinfeld-A-modules which is proper but in general not representable. For Drinfeld-Anderson shtuka and abelian sheaves instead of Drinfeld modules we obtain the same results.
Bounded local G-shtukas are function field analogs for p-divisible groups with extra structure. We describe their deformations and moduli spaces. The latter are analogous to Rapoport-Zink spaces for p-divisible groups. The underlying schemes of these moduli spaces are affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. For basic Newton polygons the closed Newton stratum in the universal deformation of a local G-shtuka is isomorphic to the completion of a corresponding affine Deligne-Lusztig variety in that point. This yields bounds on the dimension and proves equidimensionality of the basic affine Deligne-Luszt…
For a split reductive group G over a finite field, we show that the intersection (cohomology) motive of the moduli stack of iterated G-shtukas with bounded modification and level structure is defined independently of the standard conjectures on motivic t-structures on triangulated categories of motives. This is in accordance with general expectations on the independence of l in the Langlands correspondence for function fields.
This is the second in a sequence of articles, in which we explore moduli stacks of global G-shtukas, the function field analogs for Shimura varieties. Here G is a flat affine group scheme of finite type over a smooth projective curve C over a finite field. Global G-shtukas are generalizations of Drinfeld shtukas and analogs of abelian varieties with additional structure. We prove that the moduli stacks of global G-shtukas are algebraic Deligne-Mumford stacks separated and locally of finite type. They generalize various moduli spaces used by different authors to prove instances of the Langlands…
In this article we study motives corresponding to the moduli stacks of G-shtukas and their local models. In particular we deal with the question of describing their motivic fundamental invariants. As an application, we provide a criterion for mixed Tateness of the local model, and discuss the semi-simplicity of Frobenius on their cohomology. We then use the theory of local models to reformulate a purity result for these moduli stacks in the motivic context.
In this article we develop the theory of local models for the moduli stacks of global $G$-shtukas, the function field analogs for Shimura varieties. Here $G$ is a smooth affine group scheme over a smooth projective curve. As the first approach, we relate the local geometry of these moduli stacks to the geometry of Schubert varieties inside global affine Grassmannian, only by means of global methods. Alternatively, our second approach uses the relation between the deformation theory of global $G$-shtukas and associated local $P$-shtukas at certain characteristic places. Regarding the analogy be…
In this paper I'm going to study the intersection of two Heegner-Drinfeld cycles coming from two different nonsplit tori on the Yun-Zhang moduli stack of $PGL_2$ Drinfeld stukas with Iwahori level structure. We will see that the intersection number is related to a certain period integral. It is an extension of the result by Howard-Shinidman to the Iwahori case.
This is the first in a sequence of two articles investigating moduli stacks of global G-shtukas, which are function field analogs for Shimura varieties. Here G is a flat affine group scheme of finite type over a smooth projective curve, and global G-shtukas are generalizations of Drinfeld shtukas and analogs of abelian varieties with additional structure. Our moduli stacks generalize various moduli spaces used by different authors to prove instances of the Langlands program over function fields. In the present article we explain the relation between global G-shtukas and local P-shtukas, which …
Local shtukas are the function field analogs for $p$-divisible groups. Similar to the $p$-adic theory, one defines Rapoport-Zink functors and Rapoport-Zink spaces for these local shtukas. The associated Hodge-Pink structures are described uniquely by a morphism, called the period morphism of the moduli problem. We will prove the ind-representability of the Rapoport-Zink functor in a particular case and compute the corresponding Rapoport-Zink space as well as the corresponding period morphism. In this case, the period morphism is given by the Carlitz logarithm.
We define the Heegner--Drinfeld cycle on the moduli stack of Drinfeld Shtukas of rank two with $r$-modifications for an even integer $r$. We prove an identity between (1) The $r$-th central derivative of the quadratic base change $L$-function associated to an everywhere unramified cuspidal automorphic representation $π$ of $PGL_{2}$; (2) The self-intersection number of the $π$-isotypic component of the Heegner--Drinfeld cycle. This identity can be viewed as a function-field analog of the Waldspurger and Gross--Zagier formula for higher derivatives of $L$-functions.
In this article we first survey the analogy between Shimura varieties (resp. Rapoport-Zink spaces) and moduli stacks for global G-shtukas (resp. Rapooprt Zink spaces for local P-shtukas). This part is intended to enrich the dictionary between the arithmetic of number fields and function fields a bit further. Furthermore, to complete this picture, we also study some local properties of Rapoport-Zink spaces for local P-shtukas by constructing local models for them. This provides a "local" complementary to a previous work of the author, which was devoted to the study of the local models for the m…
Let $G$ be a connected split reductive group over a finite field ${\mathbb F}_q$ and $X$ a smooth projective geometrically connected curve over ${\mathbb F}_q$. The $\ell$-adic cohomology of stacks of $G$-shtukas is a generalization of the space of automorphic forms with compact support over the function field of $X$. In this paper, we construct a constant term morphism on the cohomology of stacks of shtukas which is a generalization of the constant term morphism for automorphic forms. We also define the cuspidal cohomology which generalizes the space of cuspidal automorphic forms. Then we sho…
We define etale cohomology of the moduli spaces of mixed characteristic local shtukas so that it gives smooth representations including the case where the relevant elements of the Kottwitz set are both non-basic. Then we relate the etale cohomology of different moduli spaces of mixed characteristic local shtukas using convolution morphisms, duality morphisms and twist morphisms. As an application, we show the Kottwitz conjecture in some new cases including the cases for all inner forms of $\mathrm{GL}_3$ and minuscule cocharacters. We study also some non-minuscule cases and show that the Kottw…
In this paper we classify isogeny classes of global $\mathsf{G}$-shtukas over a smooth projective curve $C/\mathbb{F}_q$ (or equivalently $σ$-conjugacy classes in $\mathsf{G}(\mathsf{F} \otimes_{\mathbb{F}_q} \overline{\mathbb{F}_q})$ where $\mathsf{F}$ is the field of rational functions of $C$) by two invariants $\barκ,\barν$ extending previous works of Kottwitz. This result can be applied to study points of moduli spaces of $\mathsf{G}$-shtukas and thus is helpful to calculate their cohomology.
We study the $p$-rank stratification of the moduli space of cyclic degree $\ell$ covers of the projective line in characteristic $p$ for distinct primes $p$ and $\ell$. The main result is about the intersection of the $p$-rank $0$ stratum with the boundary of the moduli space of curves. When $\ell=3$ and $p \equiv 2 \bmod 3$ is an odd prime, we prove that there exists a smooth trielliptic curve in characteristic $p$, with every genus $g$, signature type $(r,s)$ and $p$-rank $f$ satisfying the clear necessary conditions.
We show the compactly supported motive of the moduli stack of degree $n$ rational curves on the weighted projective stack $\mathcal{P}(a,b)$ is of mixed Tate type over any base field $K$ with $\text{char}(K) \nmid a,b$ and has class $\mathbb{L}^{(a+b)n+1}-\mathbb{L}^{(a+b)n-1}$ in the Grothendieck ring of stacks. In particular, this improves upon the result of [HP] regarding the arithmetic invariant of the moduli stack $\mathcal{L}_{1,12n} := \mathrm{Hom}_{n}(\mathbb{P}^1, \overline{\mathcal{M}}_{1,1})$ of stable elliptic fibrations over $\mathbb{P}^{1}$ with $12n$ nodal singular fibers and a …
We study stacks of slope-semistable twisted sheaves on orbisurfaces with projective coarse spaces and prove that in certain cases they have many of the asymptotic properties enjoyed by the moduli of slope-semistable sheaves on smooth projective surfaces.
We prove the plectic conjecture of Nekovář-Scholl over global function fields $Q$. For example, when the cocharacter is defined over $Q$ and the structure group is a Weil restriction from a geometric degree $d$ separable extension $F/Q$, consider the complex computing $\ell$-adic intersection cohomology with compact support of the associated moduli space of shtukas over $Q_I$. We endow this with the structure of a complex of $\DeclareMathOperator{\Weil}{Weil}(\Weil(F)^d\rtimes\mathfrak{S}_d)^I$-modules, which extends its structure as a complex of $\Weil(Q)^I$-modules constructed by Arinkin-Gai…
For a fixed odd prime p and a representation ρof the absolute Galois group of Q into the projective group PGL(2,p), we provide the twisted modular curves whose rational points supply the quadratic Q-curves of degree N prime to p that realize ρthrough the Galois action on their p-torsion modules. The modular curve to twist is either the fiber product of the modular curves X_0(N) and X(p) or a certain quotient of Atkin-Lehner type, depending on the value of N mod p. For our purposes, a special care must be taken in fixing rational models for these modular curves and in studying their automorphis…
