Based on quantum mechanical framework for the minimal length uncertainty, we demonstrate that the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) parameter could be best constrained by recent gravitational waves observations on one hand. On other hand this suggests modified dispersion relations (MDRs) enabling an estimation for the difference between the group velocity of gravitons and that of photons. Utilizing features of the UV/IR correspondence and the obvious similarities between GUP (including non-gravitating and gravitating impacts on Heisenberg uncertainty principle) and the discrepancy between the theoretical and the observed cosmological constant (apparently manifesting gravitational influences on the vacuum energy density), we suggest a possible solution for the cosmological constant problem.
We investigate the models of cosmological inflation in generalized scalar-tensor gravity, which we consider as a source of deviation from de Sitter dynamics in the case of GR. Within the framework of the proposed approach, the exact equations of cosmological dynamics and parameters of cosmological perturbations are obtained.
One brief idea on the extended uncertainty relation and the dynamical quantization of space-time at the Planck scale is presented. The extended uncertainty relation could be a guiding principle toward the renormalizable quantum gravity. Cosmological constant in the Universe as a quantum effect is also roughly estimated.
We show that the combined minimal and non minimal interaction with the gravitational field may produce the generation of a cosmological constant without self-interaction of the scalar field. In the same vein we analyze the existence of states of a scalar field that by a combined interaction of minimal and non minimal coupling with the gravitational field can exhibit an unexpected property, to wit, they are acted on by the gravitational field but do not generate gravitational field. In other words, states that seems to violate the action-reaction principle. We present explicit examples of this …
The purpose of this study is to describe a perfect fluid matter distribution that leads to a constant curvature region, thanks to the effect of a non-minimal coupling. This distribution exhibits a density profile within the range found in the interstellar medium and an adequate matching of the metric components at its boundary. By identifying this constant curvature with the value of the cosmological constant, and superimposing the spherical distributions arising from different matter sources throughout the universe, one is able to mimic a large-scale homogeneous cosmological constant solution…
We present a novel mechanism for generating a Cosmological Constant and suitably sequestering the vacuum contribution to it, so that the eponymous Cosmological Constant problem is avoided. We do so by resorting to a model endowed with a non-minimal coupling between curvature and matter in an appropriately defined relaxed regime, and show that this shares features with both Unimodular gravity as well as a recent proposal to sequester the vacuum contribution through the use of an external term to the action functional.
A homogeneous and isotropic Universe in the framework of nonlinear sigma model with non-minimal coupling to the target space is considered. A two-component model of such a sort is preliminary investigated. Some solutions for this model are given. Perspectives and directions of development of such a sort of models are designated.
With the help of our own software package DifEqTools, numerical modeling of the cosmological evolution of a system consisting of an asymmetric scalar doublet of nonlinear, minimally interacting scalar fields, a classical field and a phantom field, has been performed. Peculiarities of the behavior of the model near zeroenergy hypersurfaces have been revealed.
A qualitative analysis of a cosmological model based on the asymmetric scalar doublet classical + phantom scalar field with minimal interaction is performed. It is shown that depending on the parameters of the model, the corresponding dynamical system can have 1, 3, or 9 stationary points corresponding to attractive or repulsive centers (1--5) and saddle points (0--4). A physical analysis of the model is performed.
I conjecture non-zero photon and gluon bare masses derived from a cosmological scale. That entails the existence of photon and gluon Bose-Einstein (BE) condensates in a comoving Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker geometry. I derive tantalizing results that set the inter-particle distance in these BE condensates almost at the nucleon scale and a corresponding critical temperature of condensation almost at the end of the quark epoch or the beginning of quark-gluon confinement. My estimates for particle mass and number density in these BE condensates suggest remarkable relations among fundamenta…
In this work, one examines how the presence of a non-minimal coupling between the spacetime curvature and matter affects the evolution of cosmological perturbations around a homogeneous and isotropic Universe and hence the formation of large-scale structure. This framework places constraints on the terms which arise due to the coupling with matter and, in particular, on the modification in the growth of matter density perturbations. One obtains approximate analytical solutions for the evolution of matter overdensities during the matter dominated era and shows that these favor the presence of a…
In the present paper, we consider a model of non-minimal modified Yang-Mills theory in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology, in which the Yang-Mills field couples to the scalar curvature through a function of its first invariant. We show that cosmic acceleration can be realized due to non-minimal gravitational coupling of the modified Yang-Mills theory. Besides general study, we consider in detail the case of power-law coupling function. We derive the basic equations for the cosmic scale factor in our model, and provide several examples of their solutions.
On the basis of a qualitative and numerical analysis of a cosmological model based on an asymmetric scalar doublet of nonlinear, minimally interacting scalar fields -- one classical and one phantom, peculiarities of the behavior of the model near zero energy hypersurfaces have been revealed. Numerical models have been constructed, in which the dynamical system has limit cycles on the zero-energy hypersurfaces. Three types of behavior of the cosmological model have been distinguished, configured by the fundamental constants of the scalar fields and the initial conditions. It is shown that over …
On the basis of a qualitative and numerical analysis of a cosmological model based on an asymmetric scalar doublet of nonlinear, minimally interacting scalar fields, both classical and phantom, the behavior of the model near zero energy hypersurfaces has been revealed. The influence of the multiply connected factor of the phase space of the dynamical system, this factor being a consequence of the nonanalyticity of the coefficients of an autonomous system of differential equations, is discussed. The character of all singular points is revealed.
We investigate a microscopic black hole in case of modified generalized uncertainty principle with a minimal uncertainty in position as well as in momentum. We calculate thermodynamical functions of a Schwarzschild black hole such as temperature, entropy and heat capacity. It is shown that incorporation of minimal uncertainty in momentum leads to minimal temperature of a black hole similarly as we have for Schwarzschschild-AdS black hole without minimal uncertainty. Minimal temperature gives rise to Hawking-Page phase transition. Emission rate equation and black hole lifetime are also obtained…
In this work, we study the late-time cosmological solutions of f(R,T)=g(R)+h(-T) models assuming that the conservation of the energy-momentum tensor (EMT) is violated. We perform our analysis through constructing an autonomous dynamical system for the equations of motion. We study the stability properties of solutions via considering linear perturbations about the related equilibrium points. These parameters which are constructed out of the functions g(R) and h(-T) play the main role in finding the late time behavior of the solutions.
We develop a discrete model to account for the effects of inhomogeneities on the redshift of photons. Using this model we compute the probability distribution of the observed redshift respect to the background value, obtaining that its dispersion around the central value is proportional the square root of the comoving distance. This implies that data analysis should include a contribution to the total error budget which depends on the distance of the source. Assuming large scale inhomogeneities with a power spectrum given by primordial curvature perturbations the effect is expected to be small…
In the framework of the generalized Rastall theory (GRT), we study the ability of a non-minimal coupling between geometry and matter fields in order to provide a setting which allows for a variable G during the cosmic evolution. In this regard, the compatibility of this theory with Dirac hypothesis on the variations of G is investigated, and additionally, the possibility of obtaining the current accelerated universe is also addressed. In summary, our study indicates that, in GRT, having in hand the G profile, one may find the corresponding non-minimal coupling between the energy source and geo…
The uncertainty on measurements, given by the Heisenberg principle, is a quantum concept usually not taken into account in General Relativity. From a cosmological point of view, several authors wonder how such a principle can be reconciled with the Big Bang singularity, but, generally, not whether it may affect the reliability of cosmological measurements. In this letter, we express the {Compton mass} as a function of the cosmological redshift. The cosmological application of the indetermination principle unveils the differences of the Hubble-Lemaître constant value, $H_0$, as measured from th…
In this paper, we study the quantum statistical entropy in a 5D Ricci-flat black string solution, which contains a 4D Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole on the brane, by using the improved thin-layer method with the generalized uncertainty principle. The entropy is the linear sum of the areas of the event horizon and the cosmological horizon without any cut-off and any constraint on the bulk's configuration rather than the usual uncertainty principle. The system's density of state and free energy are convergent in the neighborhood of horizon. The small-mass approximation is determined by the a…
We construct new non-stationary cosmological solutions to five-dimensional minimal supergravity that don't have any tri-holomorphic U(1) isometries. Our new solutions, in part, contain some of the previously constructed solutions to the minimal supergravity. The c-function of solutions shows monotonic increasing/decreasing behaviour in time, in agreement with the expected behaviour of c-function in spacetimes with positive cosmological constant.
It was previously argued that generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) with a positive parameter removes the Chandrasekhar limit. One way to restore the limit is by taking the GUP parameter to be negative. In this work we discuss an alternative method that achieves the same effect: by including a cosmological constant term in the GUP (known as "extended GUP" in the literature). We show that an arbitrarily small but nonzero cosmological constant can restore the Chandrasekhar limit. We also remark that if the extended GUP is correct, then the existence of white dwarfs gives an upper bound for the…
This paper generalizes two previously known techniques for generating minimally coupled Einstein-scalar field solutions in 4 dimensions; the Buchdahl and Fonarev transformations. By applying this solution generation technique, minimally coupled Einstein-scalar field solutions can be generated from vacuum solutions with arbitrary cosmological constant in arbitrary dimension. The only requirement to a seed solution is that it posesses a hypersurface-orthogonal Killing vector field. The generalization that allows us to use seed solutions with arbitrary cosmological constant uncovers a new class o…
A detailed comparative qualitative analysis and numerical simulation of evolution of the cosmological models based on the doublet of classical and phantom scalar fields with self-action. The 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional projections of the phase portraits of the corresponding dynamic system are built. Just as in the case of single scalar fields, the phase space of such systems, becomes multiply connected, the ranges of negative total effective energy unavailable for motion, getting appear there. The distinctive feature of the asymmetrical scalar doublet is the time dependency of the prohibit…
Karolyhazy uncertainty relation, which can be viewed also as a relation between UV and IR scales in the framework of an effective quantum field theory satisfying a black hole entropy bound, strongly favors the existence of dark energy with its observed value. Here we estimate the dynamics of dark energy predicted by the Karolyhazy relation during the cosmological evolution of the universe.
The Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) has emerged in numerous attempts to a theory of quantum gravity and predicts the existence of a minimum length in Nature. In this work, we consider two cosmological models arising from Friedmann equations modified by the GUP (in its linear and quadratic formulations) and compare them with observational data. Our aim is to derive constraints on the GUP parameter and discuss the viability and physical implications of such models. We find for the parameter in the quadratic formulation the constraint $α^{2}_{Q}<10^{59}$ (tighter than most of those obtain…
We find exact formulas for the Extended Uncertainty Principle (EUP) for the Rindler and Friedmann horizons and show that they can be expanded to obtain asymptotic forms known from the previous literature. We calculate the corrections to Hawking temperature and Bekenstein entropy of a black hole in the universe due to Rindler and Friedmann horizons. The effect of the EUP is similar to the canonical corrections of thermal fluctuations and so it rises the entropy signalling further loss of information.
Treating the gravitational field as a dynamical field, we study the spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by a scalar field under its self-interaction and non-minimal interaction with gravity in four dimensional space-time. In particular, we explore the feasibility of inducing spontaneous symmetry breaking after introducing the non-minimal coupling, and discuss briefly the cosmological constant problem corresponding to the phase transition associated with the spontaneous symmetry breaking.
In Schroedinger picture we study the possible effects of trans-Planckian physics on the quantum evolution of massive non-minimally coupled scalar field in de Sitter space. For the nonlinear Corley-Jacobson type dispersion relations with quartic or sextic correction, we obtain the time evolution of the vacuum state wave functional during slow-roll inflation, and calculate explicitly the corresponding expectation value of vacuum energy density. We find that the vacuum energy density is finite. For the usual dispersion parameter choice, the vacuum energy density for quartic correction to the disp…
We review our work on the minimal length uncertainty relation as suggested by perturbative string theory. We discuss simple phenomenological implications of the minimal length uncertainty relation and then argue that the combination of the principles of quantum theory and general relativity allow for a dynamical energy-momentum space. We discuss the implication of this for the problem of vacuum energy and the foundations of non-perturbative string theory.
We present Friedmann flat spacetime uncertainty relations (STUR) together with some cosmological implications. An interesting link between the Principle of "gravitational stability against localization of events" (PGSL) and the holographic Bekenstein entropy bound (HEB) is also investigated. The same theorems leading to our STUR are used to calculate, thanks to the holographic principle, the entropy of the universe at its apparent horizon. The generalized entropy formula can be used to discuss interesting links with a quantum spacetime.
Toy cosmological models based on non-minimal coupling between gravity and scalar dilaton-like field are presented in the framework of Palatini formalism. They have the following property: preceding to a given cosmological epoch is a dark energy epoch with an accelerated expansion. The next (future) epoch becomes dominated by some kind of dark matter.
Bimetric gravity theories describes gravitational interactions in the presence of an extra spin-2 field. The Hassan-Rosen (HR) nonlinear massive minimal bigravity theory is a ghost-free bimetric theory formulated with respect a flat, dynamical reference metric. In this work the deformation quantization formalism is applied to a HR cosmological model in the minisuperspace. The quantization procedure is performed explicitly for quantum cosmology in the minisuperspace. The Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model with flat metrics is worked out and the computation of the Wigner functions …
We investigate some cosmological models arising from a non-minimal coupling of a fermionic field to gravity in the geometrical setting of Einstein-Cartan-Sciama-Kibble gravity. The role played by the non-minimal coupling together with torsion in facing problems such as cosmological singularity, inflation and dark energy is discussed.
The one-loop effective action for non-minimal scalar modified gravity on de Sitter background with a constant scalar field is found. The corresponding induced cosmological constant is evaluated. It is shown that quantum effects in non-minimal modified gravity may induce an early-time de Sitter universe even in the situation when such solution does not occur on the classical level. Classical reconstruction of the theory is presented in such a way that the resulting theory has a cosmological solution unifying early-time inflation with late-time acceleration.
A cosmological model where a fermion field is non-minimally coupled with the gravitational field is studied. By applying Noether symmetry the possible functions for the potential density of the fermion field and for the coupling are determined. Cosmological solutions are found showing that the non-minimally coupled fermion field behaves as an inflaton describing an accelerated inflationary scenario, whereas the minimally coupled fermion field describes a decelerated period being identified as dark matter.
We study a model of scalar field with kinetic terms non-minimally coupled to to the curvature, and the scalar field coupled to the Gauss Bonnet 4-dimensional invariant. A variety of solutions are found, giving rise to different cosmological scenarios. A unified description of early time matter (radiation) dominance with transitions to late time quintessence and phantom phases have been made. Among others, we found solutions unifying asymptotically the early power law behavior and late time cosmological constant. Solutions of Chaplygin gas and generalized Chaplygin gas cosmologies have also bee…
We study dynamics of non-minimally coupled scalar field cosmological models with Higgs-like potentials and a negative cosmological constant. In these models the inflationary stage of the Universe evolution changes into a quasi-cyclic stage of the Universe evolution with oscillation behaviour of the Hubble parameter from positive to negative values. Depending on the initial conditions the Hubble parameter can perform either one or several cycles before to become negative forever.
We remind the way to obtain integrable models with non-minimally coupled scalar fields. We are interesting to models with bounce solutions and compare bounce solutions in two known integrable models. We show that only one model has a bounce solution that tends to a stable de Sitter solution.
We consider: minimal scalar-tensor model of gravity with Brans-Dicke factor $ω(Φ)\equiv 0$ and cosmological factor $Π(Φ)$; restrictions on it from gravitational experiments; qualitative analysis of new approach to cosmological constant problem based on the huge amount of action in Universe; determination of $Π(Φ)$ using time evolution of scale factor of Universe.
In this work, we point out an overlooked and subtle feature of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) approach to quantizing gravity: namely that different pairs of modified operators with the same modified commutator, $[\hat{X},\hat{P}] = i \hbar (1+βp^2)$, may have different physical consequences such as having no minimal length at all. These differences depend on how the position and/or momentum operators are modified rather than only on the resulting modified commutator. This provides guidance when constructing GUP models since it distinguishes those GUPs that have a minimal length sc…
We consider a cosmological scenario endowed with an interaction between the universe's dark components $-$ dark matter and dark energy. Specifically, we assume the dark matter component to be a pressure-less fluid, while the dark energy component is a quintessence scalar field with Lagrangian function modified by the quadratic Generalized Uncertainty Principle. The latter modification introduces new higher-order terms of fourth-derivative due to quantum corrections in the scalar field's equation of motion. Then we investigate asymptotic dynamics and general behaviour of solutions of the field …
We study the integrable model with minimally and non-minimally coupled scalar fields and the correspondence of their general solutions. Using the model with a minimally coupled scalar field and a the constant potential as an example we demonstrate the difference between the general solutions of the corresponding models in the Jordan and the Einstein frames.
Motivated by the structure of one-loop vacuum polarization effects in curved spacetime we discuss a non-minimal extension of the Einstein-Maxwell equations. This formalism is applied to Bianchi I models with magnetic field. We obtain several exact solutions of the non-minimal system including those which describe an isotropization process. We show that there are inflationary solutions in which the cosmological constant is determined by the non-minimal coupling parameters. Furthermore, we find an isotropic de Sitter solution characterized by a "screening" of the magnetic field as a consequence …
We consider the relation between exact solutions of cosmological models having minimally and non-minimally coupled scalar fields. This is done for a particular class of solvable models which, in the Einstein frame, have potentials depending on hyperbolic functions and in the Jordan frame, where the non-minimal coupling is conformal, possess a relatively simple dynamics. We show that a particular model in this class can be generalized to the cases of closed and open Friedmann universes and still exhibits a simple dynamics. Further we illustrate the conditions for the existences of bounces in so…
The existence of a small, non-zero cosmological constant is one of the major puzzles in fundamental physics. Naively, quantum field theory arguments would imply a cosmological constant which is up to 10$^{120}$ times larger than the observed one. It is believed a comprehensive theory of quantum gravity would resolve this enormous mismatch between theory and observation. In this work, we study the ability of generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) models, which are phenomenologically motivated models of quantum gravity, to address the cosmological constant problem. In particular, we focus on ho…
We investigate the effect of the minimal length uncertainty relation, motivated by perturbative string theory, on the density of states in momentum space. The relation is implemented through the modified commutation relation [x_i,p_j]=i hbar[(1 + beta p^2) delta_{ij} + beta' p_i p_j]. We point out that this relation, which is an example of an UV/IR relation, implies the finiteness of the cosmological constant. While our result does not solve the cosmological constant problem, it does shed new light on the relation between this outstanding problem and UV/IR correspondence. We also point out tha…
Recently, the Heisenberg's uncertainty principle has been extended to incorporate the existence of a large (cut-off) length scale in de Sitter or anti-de Sitter space, and the Hawking temperatures of the Schwarzshild-(anti) de Sitter black holes have been reproduced by using the extended uncertainty principle. I generalize the extended uncertainty to the case with an absolute minimum length and compute its modification to the Hawking temperature. I obtain a general trend that the generalized uncertainty principle due to the absolute minimum length ``always'' increases the Hawking temperature, …

We propose an improved exponential Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) by introducing a positive integer $n$ called the suppressing index. Due to the UV/IR mixing brought by the GUP, the states with momenta smaller than the critical momentum ($P < P_{\rm Crit}$) are canceled by the states with momenta larger than the critical momentum ($P > P_{\rm Crit}$) and thus have no contributions to the energy density of the vacuum. By considering the contributions just from the states with momenta larger than the critical momentum ($P > P_{\rm Crit}$) and choosing a suitable suppressing index, $n \s…
