We consider sequences of needlet random fields defined as weighted averaged forms of spherical Gaussian eigenfunctions. Our main result is a Central Limit Theorem in the high energy setting, for the boundary lengths of their excursion sets. This result is based on Stein-Malliavin techniques and Wiener chaos expansion for nonlinear functionals of random fields. To this end, a careful analysis of the variances of each chaotic component of the boundary length is carried out, showing that they are asymptotically constant, after normalisation, for all terms of the expansion and no leading component arises.
This paper provides quantitative Central Limit Theorems for nonlinear transforms of spherical random fields, in the high frequency limit. The sequences of fields that we consider are represented as smoothed averages of spherical Gaussian eigenfunctions and can be viewed as random coefficients from continuous wavelets/needlets; as such, they are of immediate interest for spherical data analysis. In particular, we focus on so-called needlets polyspectra, which are popular tools for nonGaussianity analysis in the astrophysical community, and on the area of excursion sets. Our results are based on…
We study the asymptotic behaviour of needlets-based approximate maximum likelihood estimators for the spectral parameters of Gaussian and isotropic spherical random fields. We prove consistency and asymptotic Gaussianity, in the high-frequency limit, thus generalizing earlier results by Durastanti et al. (2011) based upon standard Fourier analysis on the sphere. The asymptotic results are then illustrated by an extensive Monte Carlo study.
In a recent paper, we analyzed the properties of a new kind of spherical wavelets (called needlets) for statistical inference procedures on spherical random fields; the investigation was mainly motivated by applications to cosmological data. In the present work, we exploit the asymptotic uncorrelation of random needlet coefficients at fixed angular distances to construct subsampling statistics evaluated on Voronoi cells on the sphere. We illustrate how such statistics can be used for isotropy tests and for bootstrap estimation of nuisance parameters, even when a single realization of the spher…
We consider the statistical analysis of random sections of a spin fibre bundle over the sphere. These may be thought of as random fields that at each point p in $S^2$ take as a value a curve (e.g. an ellipse) living in the tangent plane at that point $T_{p}S^2$, rather than a number as in ordinary situations. The analysis of such fields is strongly motivated by applications, for instance polarization experiments in Cosmology. To investigate such fields, spin needlets were recently introduced by Geller and Marinucci (2008) and Geller et al. (2008). We consider the use of spin needlets for spin …
In this note, we study the asymptotic behaviour near extinction of (sub-) critical continuous state branching processes. In particular, we establish an analogue of Khintchin's law of the iterated logarithm near extinction time for a continuous state branching process whose branching mechanism satisfies a given condition and its reflected process at its infimum.
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the a large class of reversible chemical reaction-diffusion equations with the same diffusion. In particular we prove the optimal rate in two cases : when there is no diffusion and in the classical "two-by-two" case.
We consider a Markov chain on $R^+$ with asymptotically zero drift and finite second moments of jumps which is positive recurrent. A power-like asymptotic behaviour of the invariant tail distribution is proven; such a heavy-tailed invariant measure happens even if the jumps of the chain are bounded. Our analysis is based on test functions technique and on construction of a harmonic function.
We consider the correlation structure of the random coefficients for a wide class of wavelet systems on the sphere (Mexican needlets) which were recently introduced in the literature by Geller and Mayeli (2007). We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for these coefficients to be asymptotic uncorrelated in the real and in the frequency domain. Here, the asymptotic theory is developed in the high resolution sense. Statistical applications are also discussed, in particular with reference to the analysis of cosmological data.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of a class of small-noise diffusions driven by fractional Brownian motion, with random starting points. Different scalings allow for different asymptotic properties of the process (small-time and tail behaviours in particular). In order to do so, we extend some results on sample path large deviations for such diffusions. As an application, we show how these results characterise the small-time and tail estimates of the implied volatility for rough volatility models, recently proposed in mathematical finance.
We investigate the distribution properties of the fractional Lévy motion. We consider separately the cases $0<H<1/2$ (short memory) and $1/2<H<1$ (long memory), where $H$ is the Hurst parameter, and present the asymptotic behaviour of the distribution density of the process. Some examples are provided, in which it is shown that the behaviour of the density in the cases $0<H<1/2$ and $1/2<H<1$ is completely different.
The present paper aims at describing in details the asymptotic composition of a class of d-colour Pólya urn: namely balanced, tenable and irreducible urns. We decompose the composition vector of such urns according to the Jordan decomposition of their replacement matrix. The projections of the composition vector onto the so-called small Jordan spaces are known to be asymptotically gaussian, but the asymptotic behaviour of the projections onto the large Jordan spaces are not known in full details up to now and are discribed by a limiting random variables called W, depending on the parameters of…
A random graph evolution based on the interactions of N vertices is studied. During the evolution both the preferential attachment method and the uniform choice of vertices are allowed. The weight of a vertex means the number of its interactions. The asymptotic behaviour of the weight and the degree of a fixed vertex, moreover the limit of the maximal weight and the maximal degree are described. The proofs are based on martingale methods.
This paper considers the limiting distribution of $π_{λ,θ}$, the stationary distribution of the infinitely-many-alleles diffusion with symmetric overdominance \cite{MR1626158}. In \cite{MR2519357} the large deviation principle for $π_{λ,θ}$ indicates that there are countably many phase transitions for the limiting distribution of $π_{λ,θ}$, and the critical points are $λ=k(k+1), k\geq1$. The asymptotic behaviours at those critical points, however, are unclear. This article provides a definite description of the critical cases.
Let us consider a solution of the time-inhomogeneous stochastic differential equation driven by a Brownian motion with drift coefficient $b(t,x)=ρ\,{\rm sgn}(x)|x|^α/t^β$. This process can be viewed as a distorted Brownian motion in a potential, possibly singular, depending on time. After obtaining results on existence and uniqueness of solution, we study its asymptotic behaviour and made a precise description, in terms of parameters $ρ,α$ and $β$, of the recurrence, transience and convergence. More precisely, asymptotic distributions, iterated logarithm type laws and rates of transience and e…
We study the behaviour of the contact process with rapid stirring on the lattice $\Z^d$ in dimensions $d\geq 3$. This process was studied earlier by Konno and Katori, who proved results for the speed of convergence of the critical value as the rate of stirring approaches infinity. %Katori has improved the result of Katori in $d\geq 3$ and has produced an interval where the critical value must lie. In this article we improve the results of Konno and Kattori and establish the sharp asymptotics of the critical value in dimensions $d\geq 3$.
We investigate what happens when an entire sample path of a smooth Gaussian process on a compact interval lies above a high level. Specifically, we determine the precise asymptotic probability of such an event, the extent to which the high level is exceeded, the conditional shape of the process above the high level, and the location of the minimum of the process given that the sample path is above a high level.
We study linear eigenvalue statistics of band Hankel matrices with Brownian motion entries. We prove that, the centred, normalized linear eigenvalue statistics of band Hankel matrices obey a central limit theorem (CLT) type result. We also discuss the convergence of linear eigenvalue statistics of band Hankel matrices with independent entries for odd power monomials. Our method is based on trace formula, moment method and some results of process convergence.
We revisit the product convolution semigroup of probability densities e_c(t),c>0 on the positive half-line with moments (n!)^c and determine the asymptotic behaviour of e_c(t) for large and small t>0. This shows that (n!)^c is indeterminate as Stieltjes moment sequence if and only if c>2
We study the asymptotic behaviour of a properly normalized time changed Wiener processes. The time change reflects the fact that we consider the Laplace operator (which generates a Wiener process) multiplied by a possibly degenerate state-space dependent intensity $λ(x)$. Applying a functional limit theorem for the superposition of stochastic processes, we prove functional limit theorems for the normalized time changed Wiener process. The normalization depends on the asymptotic behaviour of the intensity function $λ$. One of the possible limits is a skew Brownian motion.
We prove the asymptotic formulas for the transition densities of isotropic unimodal convolution semigroups of probability measures on $\mathbb{R} ^d$ under the assumption that its Lévy--Khintchine exponent varies slowly. We also derive some new estimates of the transition densities and Green functions.
In this paper we consider the global stability of solutions of a nonlinear stochastic differential equation. The differential equation is a perturbed version of a globally stable linear autonomous equation with unique zero equilibrium where the diffusion coefficient is independent of the state. Contingent on a dissipative condition characterising the asymptotic stability of the unperturbed equation, necessary and sufficient conditions on the rate of decay of the noise intensity for the solution of the equation to be a.s. globally asymptotically stable, contingent on some weak and noise indepen…
This paper demonstrates a lower and upper solution method to investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the conservative reaction-diffusion systems associated with Markovian process algebra models. In particular, we have proved the uniform convergence of the solution to its constant equilibrium for a case study as time tends to infinity, together with experimental results illustrations.
The paper studies the asymptotic behaviour of weighted functionals of long-range dependent data over increasing observation windows. Various important statistics, including sample means, high order moments, occupation measures can be given by these functionals. It is shown that in the discrete sampling case additive functionals have the same asymptotic distribution as the corresponding integral functionals for the continuous functional data case. These results are applied to obtain non-central limit theorems for weighted additive functionals of random fields. As the majority of known results c…

Both small world models of random networks with occasional long range connections and gossip processes with occasional long range transmission of information have similar characteristic behaviour. The long range elements appreciably reduce the effective distances, measured in space or in time, between pairs of typical points. In this paper, we show that their common behaviour can be interpreted as a product of the locally branching nature of the models. In particular, it is shown that both typical distances between points and the proportion of space that can be reached within a given distance …
We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions of a class of linear non-local measure-valued differential equations with time delay. Our main result states that the solutions asymptotically exhibit a parabolic like behaviour in the large times, that is precisely expressed in term of heat kernel. Our proof relies on the study of a-self-similar-rescaled family of solutions. We first identify the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions by deriving a convergence result in the sense of the Young measures. Then we strengthen this convergence by deriving suitable fractional Sobolev compactness estimate…
