Let $\mathcal{O}_c$ be the category of finite-length central-charge-$c$ modules for the Virasoro Lie algebra whose composition factors are irreducible quotients of reducible Verma modules. Recently, it has been shown that $\mathcal{O}_c$ admits vertex algebraic tensor category structure for any $c\in\mathbb{C}$. Here, we determine the structure of this tensor category when $c=13-6p-6p^{-1}$ for an integer $p>1$. For such $c$, we prove that $\mathcal{O}_{c}$ is rigid, and we construct projective covers of irreducible modules in a natural tensor subcategory $\mathcal{O}_{c}^0$. We then compute all tensor products involving irreducible modules and their projective covers. Using these tensor product formulas, we show that $\mathcal{O}_c$ has a semisimplification which, as an abelian category, is the Deligne product of two tensor subcategories that are tensor equivalent to the Kazhdan-Lusztig categories for affine $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at levels $-2+p^{\pm 1}$. Next, as a straightforward consequence of the braided tensor category structure on $\mathcal{O}_c$ together with the theory of vertex operator algebra extensions, we rederive known results for triplet vertex operator algebras $\mathcal{W}(p)$, including rigidity, fusion rules, and construction of projective covers. Finally, we prove a recent conjecture of Negron that $\mathcal{O}_c^0$ is braided tensor equivalent to the $PSL(2,\mathbb{C})$-equivariantization of the category of $\mathcal{W}(p)$-modules.
We show that direct limit completions of vertex tensor categories inherit vertex and braided tensor category structures, under conditions that hold for example for all known Virasoro and affine Lie algebra tensor categories. A consequence is that the theory of vertex operator (super)algebra extensions also applies to infinite-order extensions. As an application, we relate rigid and non-degenerate vertex tensor categories of certain modules for both the affine vertex superalgebra of $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$ and the $N=1$ super Virasoro algebra to categories of Virasoro algebra modules via certain …
We show that there is a braided tensor category structure on the category of $C_1$-cofinite modules for the (universal or simple) Virasoro vertex operator algebras of arbitrary central charge. In the generic case of central charge $c=13-6(t+t^{-1})$, with $t \notin \mathbb{Q}$, we prove semisimplicity, rigidity and non-degeneracy and also compute the fusion rules of this tensor category.
In this paper, we study a new kind of vertex operator algebra related to the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, which we call the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, and its modules. Specifically, we present some results concerning the relationship between the restricted module categories of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebras of rank one and rank two and several different kinds of module categories of their corresponding vertex algebras. We also study fully the structures of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, give a characterization of it as a tensor …
We identify the algebra of matrix elements of big projective modules in category O with the regular functions on the big Bruhat cell of G. Analogous extensions of the regular representations of the affine Lie and Virasoro algebras yield vertex operator algebras, equipped with two commuting actions with special values of the total central charge. In the generic case, we identify the structure of these VOAs, compute their semi-infinite cohomology. Its superalgebra structure encodes the fusion rules for the associated tensor categories. Full details are provided for the affine sl(2) and Virasoro …

We first determine the automorphism group of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$.Then, for any integer $t>1$, we introduce a new Lie algebra $\mathcal{L}_{t}$, and show that $σ_{t}$-twisted $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$($\ell_{2}=0$)-modules are in one-to-one correspondence with restricted $\mathcal{L}_{t}$-modules of level $\ell_{13}$, where $σ_{t}$ is an order $t$ automorphism of $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$. At the end, we give a complete list of irreducible $σ_{t}$-twisted $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$($\ell_{2}=0$)-modules.
Let $\mathcal{O}_c$ be the category of finite-length modules for the Virasoro Lie algebra at central charge $c$ whose composition factors are irreducible quotients of reducible Verma modules. For any $c\in\mathbb{C}$, this category admits the vertex algebraic braided tensor category structure of Huang, Lepowsky, and Zhang. Here, we begin the detailed study of $\mathcal{O}_{c_{p,q}}$ where $c_{p,q} = 1-\frac{6(p-q)^2}{pq}$ for relatively prime integers $p, q \geq 2$; in conformal field theory, $\mathcal{O}_{c_{p,q}}$ corresponds to a logarithmic extension of the central charge $c_{p,q}$ Virasor…

We classify two-dimensional local conformal nets with parity symmetry and central charge less than 1, up to isomorphism. The maximal ones are in a bijective correspondence with the pairs of A-D-E Dynkin diagrams with the difference of their Coxeter numbers equal to 1. In our previous classification of one-dimensional local conformal nets, Dynkin diagrams D_{2n+1} and E_7 do not appear, but now they do appear in this classification of two-dimensional local conformal nets. Such nets are also characterized as two-dimensional local conformal nets with mu-index equal to 1 and central charge less th…
It is shown that the elliptic algebra ${\cal A}_{q,p}(\hat{sl}(2)_c)$ at the critical level c=-2 has a multidimensional center containing some trace-like operators t(z). A family of Poisson structures indexed by a non-negative integer and containing the q-deformed Virasoro algebra is constructed on this center. We show also that t(z) close an exchange algebra when p^m=q^{c+2} for m integer, they commute when in addition p=q^{2k} for k integer non-zero, and they belong to the center of ${\cal A}_{q,p}(\hat{sl}(2)_c)$ when k is odd. The Poisson structures obtained for t(z) in these classical lim…
In the references [HL1]--[HL5] and [H1], a theory of tensor products of modules for a vertex operator algebra is being developed. To use this theory, one first has to verify that the vertex operator algebra satisfies certain conditions. We show in the present paper that for any vertex operator algebra containing a vertex operator subalgebra isomorphic to a tensor product algebra of minimal Virasoro vertex operator algebras (vertex operator algebras associated to minimal models), the tensor product theory can be applied. In particular, intertwining operators for such a vertex operator algebra s…
We provide a ribbon tensor equivalence between the representation category of small quantum SL(2), at parameter q=exp($π$ i/p), and the representation category of the triplet vertex operator algebra at integral parameter p>1. We provide similar quantum group equivalences for representation categories associated to the Virasoro, and singlet vertex operator algebras at central charge c=1-6(p-1)^2/p. These results resolve a number of fundamental conjectures coming from studies of logarithmic CFTs in type A_1.
We construct certain tensor categories that are dominated by finitely many simple objects. Objects in these categories are modules over rings of algebra integers. We show how to obtain TQFTs defined over algebra integers from these categories.
The admissible modules for $\hat{sl}_2$ are studied from the point of view of vertex operator algebra. If $l$ is rational such that $l+2={p\over q}$ for some coprime positive integers $p\ge 2$ and $q$, Kac and Wakimoto found finitely many distinguished irreducible representations for $\hat{sl}_2$, called admissible representations. In this paper we prove that the vertex operator algebra $L(l,0)$ associated to irreducible highest weight representation of $l$ is not rational if $l$ is not a positive integer. However if we change the Virasoro algebra in certain way, $L(l,0)$ becomes a rational ve…
Finite Temperley-Lieb (TL) algebras are diagram-algebra quotients of (the group algebra of) the famous Artin's braid group $B_N$, while the affine TL algebras arise as diagram algebras from a generalized version of the braid group. We study asymptotic `$N\to\infty$' representation theory of these quotients (parametrized by $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$) from a perspective of braided monoidal categories. Using certain idempotent subalgebras in the finite and affine algebras, we construct infinite `arc' towers of the diagram algebras and the corresponding direct system of representation categories, …
We introduce two new classes of fusion categories which are obtained by a certain procedure from finite groups - weakly group-theoretical categories and solvable categories. These are fusion categories that are Morita equivalent to iterated extensions (in the world of fusion categories) of arbitrary, respectively solvable finite groups. Weakly group-theoretical categories have integer dimension, and all known fusion categories of integer dimension are weakly group theoretical. Our main results are that a weakly group-theoretical category C has the strong Frobenius property (i.e., the dimension…
The Witt group of nondegenerate braided fusion categories $\mathcal{W}$ contains a subgroup $\mathcal{W}_\text{un}$ consisting of Witt equivalence classes of pseudo-unitary nondegenerate braided fusion categories. For each finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and positive integer $k$ there exists a pseudo-unitary category $\mathcal{C}(\mathfrak{g},k)$ consisting of highest weight integerable $\hat{g}$-modules of level $k$ where $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$ is the corresponding affine Lie algebra. Relations between the classes $[\mathcal{C}(\mathfrak{sl}_2,k)]$, $k\geq1$ have been compl…
The energy bounds condition for intertwining operators of unitary rational vertex operator algebras (VOAs) was studied, first by A.Wassermann for type $A$ affine VOAs, and later by T.Loke for $c<1$ Virasoro VOAs, and by V.Toledano-Laredo for type $D$ affine VOAs. In this paper, we extend their results to affine VOAs of type $B$, $C$, and $G_2$. As a consequence, the modular tensor categories of these unitary vertex operator algebras are unitary.
Dimensions of objects in fusion categories are cyclotomic integers, hence number theoretic results have implications in the study of fusion categories and finite depth subfactors. We give two such applications. The first application is determining a complete list of numbers in the interval (2, 76/33) which can occur as the Frobenius-Perron dimension of an object in a fusion category. The smallest number on this list is realized in a new fusion category which is constructed in the appendix written by V. Ostrik, while the others are all realized by known examples. The second application proves t…
The purpose of this work is to illustrate in a family of interesting examples how to study the representation theory of vertex operator superalgebras by combining the theory of vertex algebra extensions and modular forms. Let $L_k\left(\mathfrak{osp}(1 | 2)\right)$ be the simple affine vertex operator superalgebra of $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$ at an admissible level $k$. We use a Jacobi form decomposition to see that this is a vertex operator superalgebra extension of $L_k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)\otimes \text{Vir}(p, (p+p')/2)$ where $k+3/2=p/(2p')$ and $\text{Vir}(u, v)$ denotes the regular Virasoro vert…
We develop abstract nonsense for module categories over monoidal categories (this is a straightforward categorification of modules over rings). As applications we show that any semisimple monoidal category with finitely many simple objects is equivalent to the category of representations of a weak Hopf algebra (theorem of T. Hayashi) and classify module categories over the fusion category of $\hat{sl}(2)$ at a positive integer level where we meet once again ADE classification pattern.
The main result of this paper is the construction of ``good'' integral forms for the universal enveloping algebras of the fake monster Lie algebra and the Virasoro algebra. As an application we construct formal group laws over the integers for these Lie algebras. We also prove a form of the no-ghost theorem over the integers, and use this to verify an assumption used in the proof of the modular moonshine conjectures.
For any $a,b\in\mathbb C$, $W(a,b)$ is the Lie algebra with basis $\{L_m,M_m\,|\,m\in\mathbb Z\}$ and relations $[L_m,L_n]=(n-m)L_{m+n},$ $[L_m,W_n]=(a+n+bm)W_{m+n}$, $[W_m,W_n]=0$ for $m,n\in\mathbb Z$. For any $λ\in\mathbb C^*,$ $α\in\mathbb C$, $h:=h(t)\in\mathbb C[t]$, there exists a non-weight module over $W(0,b)$ (resp., $W(0,1)$), denoted by $Φ(λ,α,h)$ (resp. $Θ(λ,h)$), which is defined on the space $\mathbb C[s,t]$ of polynomials on variables $s,t$ and is free of rank one over the enveloping algebra $U(\mathbb C L_0\oplus\mathbb C W_0)$ of $\mathbb C L_0\oplus\mathbb C W_0$. In the pre…
We classify C$^*$ near-group categories by using Vaughan Jones theory of subfactors and the Cuntz algebra endomorphisms. Our results show that there is a sharp contrast between two essentially different cases, integral and irrational cases. When the dimension of the unique non-invertible object is an integer, we obtain a complete classification list, and it turns out that such categories are always group theoretical. When it is irrational, we obtain explicit polynomial equations whose solutions completely classify the C$^*$ near-group categories in this class.
For each pair of positive integers (k,r) such that k+1,r-1 are coprime, we introduce an ideal $I^{(k,r)}_n$ of the ring of symmetric polynomials. The ideal $I^{(k,r)}_n$ has a basis consisting of Jack polynomials with parameter $β=-(r-1)/(k+1)$, and admits an action of a family of differential operators of Dunkl type including the positive half of the Virasoro algebra. The space $I^{(k,2)}_n$ coincides with the space of all symmetric polynomials in $n$ variables which vanish when $k+1$ variables are set equal. The space $I_n^{(2,r)}$ coincides with the space of correlation functions of an abel…
We show that any slightly degenerate weakly group-theoretical fusion category admits a minimal non-degenerate extension. Let $d$ be a positive square-free integer, given a weakly group-theoretical non-degenerate fusion category $\mathcal{C}$, assume that $\text{FPdim}(\mathcal{C})=nd$ and $(n,d)=1$. If $(\text{FPdim}(X)^2,d)=1$ for all simple objects $X$ of $\mathcal{C}$, then we show that $\mathcal{C}$ contains a non-degenerate fusion subcategory $\mathcal{C}(\mathbb{Z}_d,q)$. In particular, we obtain that integral fusion categories of FP-dimensions $p^md$ such that $\mathcal{C}'\subseteq \te…
In this paper we study conjugacy classes for pivotal fusion categories. In particular we prove a Burnside type formula for the structure constants concerning the product of two conjugacy class sums of a such fusion category. For a braided weakly integral fusion category $\mathcal C$ we show that these structure constants multiplied by $\mathrm{dim}(\mathcal C)$ are non-negative integers, extending some results obtained by Zhou and Zhu (see \cite{zz}) in the settings of semisimple quasitriangular Hopf algebras.
In this paper, we first show for a slightly degenerate pre-modular fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ that squares of dimensions of simple objects divide half of the dimension of $\mathcal{C}$, and that slightly degenerate fusion categories of FP-dimensions $2p^nd$ and $4p^nd$ are nilpotent, where $p$ is an odd prime and $d$ is an odd square-free integer. Then we classify slightly degenerate generalized Tambara-Yamagami fusion categories and weakly integral slightly degenerate fusion categories of particular dimensions.
Let λbe a partition of a positive integer n. Let C be a symmetric rigid tensor category over a field k of characteristic 0 or char(k)>n, and let V be an object of C. In our main result (Theorem 4.3) we introduce a finite set of integers F(λ) and prove that if the Schur functor \mathbb{S}_λ V of V is semisimple and the dimension of V is not in F(λ), then V is semisimple. Moreover, we prove that for each d in F(λ) there exist a symmetric rigid tensor category C over k and a non-semisimple object V in C of dimension d such that \mathbb{S}_λ V is semisimple (which shows that our result is the best…
We define higher Frobenius-Schur indicators for objects in linear pivotal monoidal categories. We prove that they are category invariants, and take values in the cyclotomic integers. We also define a family of natural endomorphisms of the identity endofunctor on a $k$-linear semisimple rigid monoidal category, which we call the Frobenius-Schur endomorphisms. For a $k$-linear semisimple pivotal monoidal category -- where both notions are defined --, the Frobenius-Schur indicators can be computed as traces of the Frobenius-Schur endomorphisms.
Let $C$ be a modular category of Frobenius-Perron dimension $dq^n$, where $q$ is a prime number and $d$ is a square-free integer. We show that if $q>2$ then $C$ is integral and nilpotent. In particular, $C$ is group-theoretical. In the general case, we describe the structure of $C$ in terms of equivariantizations of group-crossed braided fusion categories.
To every object $X$ of a symmetric tensor category over a field of characteristic $p>0$ we attach $p$-adic integers $\text{Dim}_+(X)$ and $\text{Dim}_-(X)$ whose reduction modulo $p$ is the categorical dimension $\text{dim}(X)$ of $X$, coinciding with the usual dimension when $X$ is a vector space. We study properties of $\text{Dim}_{\pm}(X)$, and in particular show that they don't always coincide with each other, and can take any value in $\mathbb{Z}_p$. We also discuss the connection of $p$-adic dimensions with the theory of $λ$-rings and Brauer characters.
We construct operators t(z) in the elliptic algebra introduced by Foda et al. ${\cal A}_{q,p}({\hat sl}(2)_c)$. They close an exchange algebra when p^m=q^{c+2} for m integer. In addition they commute when p=q^{2k} for k integer non-zero, and they belong to the center of ${\cal A}_{q,p}({\hat sl}(2)_c)$ when k is odd. The Poisson structures obtained for t(z) in these classical limits are identical to the q-deformed Virasoro Poisson algebra, characterizing the exchange algebras at generic values of p, q and m as new ${\cal W}_{q,p}(sl(2))$ algebras.
We review briefly the existing vertex-operator-algebraic constructions of various tensor category structures on module categories for affine Lie algebras. We discuss the results first conjectured in the work of Moore and Seiberg that led us to the construction of the modular tensor category structure in the positive integral level case. Then we review the existing constructions and results in the following three cases: (i) the level plus the dual Coxeter number is not a nonnegative rational number, (ii) the level is a positive integer and (iii) the level is an admissible number. We also presen…
Let $\mathcal{C}(\mathfrak{g},k)$ be the unitary modular tensor categories arising from the representation theory of quantum groups at roots of unity for arbitrary simple finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and positive integer levels $k$. Here we classify nondegenerate fusion subcategories of the modular tensor categories of local modules $\mathcal{C}(\mathfrak{g},k)_R^0$ where $R$ is the regular algebra of Tannakian $\text{Rep}(H)\subset\mathcal{C}(\mathfrak{g},k)_\text{pt}$. For $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{so}_5$ we describe the decomposition of $\mathcal{C}(\mathfrak{g},k)_R^…
The definitions of the $n^{th}$ Gauss sum and the associated $n^{th}$ central charge are introduced for premodular categories $\mathcal{C}$ and $n\in\mathbb{Z}$. We first derive an expression of the $n^{th}$ Gauss sum of a modular category $\mathcal{C}$, for any integer $n$ coprime to the order of the T-matrix of $\mathcal{C}$, in terms of the first Gauss sum, the global dimension, the twist and their Galois conjugates. As a consequence, we show for these $n$, the higher Gauss sums are $d$-numbers and the associated central charges are roots of unity. In particular, if $\mathcal{C}$ is the Dri…
A modular category is a braided category with some additional algebraic features. The interest of this concept is that it provides a Topological Quantum Field Theory in dimension 3. The Verlinde formulas associated with a modular category are the dimensions of the TQFT modules. We compute this formulas and discuss reductions and refinements for modular categories related with SU(N).Our main result is a splitting of the Verlinde formula, corresponding to a brick decomposition of the TQFT modules whose summands are indexed by spin structures modulo an even integer. We introduce the notion of a sp…
In this note we prove two main results. 1. In a rigid braided finite tensor category over C (not necessarily semisimple), some power of the Casimir element and some even power of the braiding is unipotent. 2. In a (semisimple) modular category, the twists are roots of unity dividing the algebraic integer D^{5/2}, where D is the global dimension of the category (the sum of squares of dimensions of simple objects). Both results generalize Vafa's theorem, saying that in a modular category twists are roots of unity, and square of the braiding has finite order. We also discuss the notion of the qua…
