For fixed $p$ and $q$, an edge-coloring of the complete graph $K_n$ is said to be a $(p, q)$-coloring if every $K_p$ receives at least $q$ distinct colors. The function $f(n, p, q)$ is the minimum number of colors needed for $K_n$ to have a $(p, q)$-coloring. This function was introduced about 45 years ago, but was studied systematically by Erdős and Gyárfás in 1997, and is now known as the Erdős-Gyárfás function. In this paper, we study $f(n, p, q)$ with respect to Gallai-colorings, where a Gallai-coloring is an edge-coloring of $K_n$ without rainbow triangles. Combining the two concepts, we consider the function $g(n, p, q)$ that is the minimum number of colors needed for a Gallai-$(p, q)$-coloring of $K_n$. Using the anti-Ramsey number for $K_3$, we have that $g(n, p, q)$ is nontrivial only for $2\leq q\leq p-1$. We give a general lower bound for this function and we study how this function falls off from being equal to $n-1$ when $q=p-1$ and $p\geq 4$ to being $Θ(\log n)$ when $q = 2$. In particular, for appropriate $p$ and $n$, we prove that $g=n-c$ when $q=p-c$ and $c\in \{1,2\}$, $g$ is at most a fractional power of $n$ when $q=\lfloor\sqrt{p-1}\rfloor$, and $g$ is logarithmic in $n$ when $2\leq q\leq \lfloor\log_2 (p-1)\rfloor+1$.
Combining Pósa's rotation lemma with a technique of Kopylov in a novel approach, we prove a generalization of the Erdős-Gallai theorems on cycles and paths. This implies a clique version of the Erdős-Gallai stability theorems and also provides alternative proofs for some recent results.
A Gallai-coloring (Gallai-$k$-coloring) is an edge-coloring (with colors from $\{1, 2, \ldots, k\}$) of a complete graph without rainbow triangles. Given a graph $H$ and a positive integer $k$, the $k$-colored Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ is the minimum integer $n$ such that every Gallai-$k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. In this paper, we consider two extremal problems related to Gallai-$k$-colorings. First, we determine upper and lower bounds for the maximum number of edges that are not contained in any rainbow triangle or monochromatic triangle …
An edge coloring of a graph $G$ is a Gallai coloring if it contains no rainbow triangle. We show that the number of Gallai $r$-colorings of $K_n$ is $\left(\binom{r}{2}+o(1)\right)2^{\binom{n}{2}}$. This result indicates that almost all Gallai $r$-colorings of $K_n$ use only 2 colors. We also study the extremal behavior of Gallai $r$-colorings among all $n$-vertex graphs. We prove that the complete graph $K_n$ admits the largest number of Gallai $3$-colorings among all $n$-vertex graphs when $n$ is sufficiently large, while for $r\geq 4$, it is the complete bipartite graph $K_{\lfloor n/2 \rfl…
A keyring is a graph obtained from a cycle by appending $r\ge0$ leaves to one of its vertices. Sidorenko proved an Erdős-Gallai-type theorem: Every graph of order $n$ and size more than $\frac{(k-1)n}{2}$ contains a keyring of size at least $k$ and with $r$ leaves for $r\le\frac{k-1}2$ (Theorem 1.4, An Erdős-Gallai-type theorem for keyrings, Graphs Combin., 2018). In this note, we show that Sidorenko's theorem holds for larger $r$ and so complete the Erdős-Gallai-type theorem for keyrings.
A classical result of Erdős and Gallai determines the maximum size $m(n,ν)$ of a graph $G$ of order $n$ and matching number $νn$. We show that $G$ has factorially many maximum matchings provided that its size is sufficiently close to $m(n,ν)$.
An edge coloring of the $n$-vertex complete graph, $K_n$, is a Gallai coloring if it does not contain any rainbow triangle, that is, a triangle whose edges are colored with three distinct colors. We prove that for $n$ large and every $k$ with $k\le 2^{n/4300}$, the number of Gallai colorings of $K_n$ that use at most $k$ given colors is $(\binom{k}{2}+o_n(1))\,2^{\binom{n}{2}}$. Our result is asymptotically best possible and implies that, for those $k$, almost all Gallai $k$-colorings use only two colors. However, this is not true for $k \ge Ω(2^{2n})$.
While investigating odd-cycle free hypergraphs, Győri and Lemons introduced a colored version of the classical theorem of Erdős and Gallai on $P_k$-free graphs. They proved that any graph $G$ with a proper vertex coloring and no path of length $2k+1$ with endpoints of different colors has at most $2kn$ edges. We show that Erdős and Gallai's original sharp upper bound of $kn$ holds for their problem as well. We also introduce a version of this problem for trees and present a generalization of the Erdős-Sós conjecture.
An edge coloring of the n-vertex complete graph K_n is a Gallai coloring if it does not contain any rainbow triangle, that is, a triangle whose edges are colored with three distinct colors. We prove that the number of Gallai colorings of K_n with at most three colors is at most 7(n+1)*2^{n choose 2}, which improves the best known upper bound of \frac{3}{2} * (n-1)! * 2^{(n-1) choose 2} in [Discrete Mathematics, 2017].
The Erdős--Gallai criteria for recognizing degree sequences of simple graphs involve a system of inequalities. Given a fixed degree sequence, we consider the list of differences of the two sides of these inequalities. These differences have appeared in varying contexts, including characterizations of the split and threshold graphs, and we survey their uses here. Then, enlarging upon properties of these graph families, we show that both the last term and the maximum term of the principal Erdős--Gallai differences of a degree sequence are preserved under graph complementation and are monotonic u…
Recently, variants of many classical extremal theorems have been proved in the random environment. We, complementing existing results, extend the Erdős-Gallai Theorem in random graphs. In particular, we determine, up to a constant factor, the maximum number of edges in a $P_n$-free subgraph of $G(N,p)$, practically for all values of $N,n$ and $p$. Our work is also motivated by the recent progress on the size-Ramsey number of paths.
In this paper we prove that if $S$ is any finite configuration of points in $\mathbb{Z}^2$, then any finite coloring of $\mathbb{E}^2$ must contain uncountably many monochromatic subsets homothetic to $S$. We extend a result of Brown, Dunfield, and Perry on 2-colorings of $\mathbb{E}^2$ to any finite coloring of $\mathbb{E}^2$.
A Gallai coloring of a complete graph is an edge-coloring such that no triangle has all its edges colored differently. A Gallai $k$-coloring is a Gallai coloring that uses $k$ colors. Given a graph $H$ and an integer $k\geq 1$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ of $H$ is the least positive integer $N$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. Let $W_{2n} $ denote an even wheel on $2n+1\ge5$ vertices. In this note, we study Gallai-Ramsey number of $W_{2n}$ and completely determine the exact value of $GR_k(W_4)$ for all $k\ge2$.
A Gallai coloring is a coloring of the edges of a complete graph without rainbow triangles, and a Gallai $k$-coloring is a Gallai coloring that uses $k$ colors. We study Ramsey-type problems in Gallai colorings. Given an integer $k\ge1$ and a graph $H$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ is the least positive integer $n$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph on $n$ vertices contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. It turns out that $GR_k(H)$ is more well-behaved than the classical Ramsey number $R_k(H)$. However, finding exact values of $GR_k (H)$ is far from trivial. In this …
A Gallai coloring is an edge coloring that avoids triangles colored with three different colors. Given integers $e_1\ge e_2 \ge \dots \ge e_k$ with $\sum_{i=1}^ke_i={n \choose 2}$ for some $n$, does there exist a Gallai $k$-coloring of $K_n$ with $e_i$ edges in color $i$? In this paper, we give several sufficient conditions and one necessary condition to guarantee a positive answer to the above question. In particular, we prove the existence of a Gallai-coloring if $e_1-e_k\le 1$ and $k \le \lfloor n/2\rfloor$. We prove that for any integer $k\ge 3$ there is a (unique) integer $g(k)$ with the …
A keyring is a graph obtained by appending $r \geq 1$ leaves to one of the vertices of a cycle. We prove that for every $r \leq (k-1)/2$, any graph with average degree more than $k-1$ contains a keyring with $r$ leaves and at least $k$ edges.
We generalize a result of Tibor Gallai as follows: for any finite set of points $\mathcal{S}$ in the plane, if the plane is colored in finitely many colors, then there exist $2^{\aleph_0}$ monochromatic subsets of the plane homothetic to $\mathcal{S}$. Furthermore, we prove an even stronger result for $n$-dimensional Euclidean space.
A Gallai coloring is a coloring of the edges of a complete graph without rainbow triangles, and a Gallai $k$-coloring is a Gallai coloring that uses at most $k$ colors. For an integer $k\geq 1$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ of a given graph $H$ is the least positive integer $N$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. Let $C_m$ denote the cycle on $m\ge4$ vertices and let $Θ_m$ denote the family of graphs obtained from $C_m$ by adding an additional edge joining two non-consecutive vertices. We prove that $GR_k(Θ_{2n+1})=n\cdot …
A path in an edge-colored graph is called \emph{a conflict-free path} if there exists a color used on only one of its edges. An edge-colored graph is called \emph{conflict-free connected} if there is a conflict-free path between each pair of distinct vertices. The \emph{conflict-free connection number} of a connected graph $G$, denoted by $\mathit{cfc}(G)$, is defined as the smallest number of colors that are required to make $G$ conflict-free connected. In this paper, we obtain Erdös-Gallai-type results for the conflict-free connection numbers of graphs.
Erdős, Gallai, and Tuza posed the following problem: given an $n$-vertex graph $G$, let $τ_1(G)$ denote the smallest size of a set of edges whose deletion makes $G$ triangle-free, and let $α_1(G)$ denote the largest size of a set of edges containing at most one edge from each triangle of $G$. Is it always the case that $α_1(G) + τ_1(G) \leq n^2/4$? We have two main results. We first obtain the upper bound $α_1(G) + τ_1(G) \leq 5n^2/16$, as a partial result towards the Erdős--Gallai--Tuza conjecture. We also show that always $α_1(G) \leq n^2/2 - m$, where $m$ is the number of edges in $G$; this…
We give characterizations of the structure and degree sequences of hereditary unigraphs, those graphs for which every induced subgraph is the unique realization of its degree sequence. The class of hereditary unigraphs properly contains the threshold and matrogenic graphs, and the characterizations presented here naturally generalize those known for these other classes of graphs. The degree sequence characterization of hereditary unigraphs makes use of the list of values $k$ for which the $k$th Erdős--Gallai inequality holds with equality for a graphic sequence. Using the canonical decompositi…
A graph is said to be {\it total-colored} if all the edges and the vertices of the graph are colored. A total-coloring of a graph is a {\it total monochromatically-connecting coloring} ({\it TMC-coloring}, for short) if any two vertices of the graph are connected by a path whose edges and internal vertices have the same color. For a connected graph $G$, the {\it total monochromatic connection number}, denoted by $tmc(G)$, is defined as the maximum number of colors used in a TMC-coloring of $G$. In this paper, we study two kinds of Erdős-Gallai-type problems for $tmc(G)$ and completely solve th…
A path in an edge-colored graph is called a \emph{monochromatic path} if all the edges on the path are colored the same. An edge-coloring of $G$ is a \emph{monochromatic connection coloring} (MC-coloring, for short) if there is a monochromatic path joining any two vertices in $G$. The \emph{monochromatic connection number}, denoted by $mc(G)$, is defined to be the maximum number of colors used in an MC-coloring of a graph $G$. These concepts were introduced by Caro and Yuster, and they got some nice results. In this paper, we will study two kinds of Erdős-Gallai-type problems for $mc(G)$, and …
The Erdős-Gallai Theorem states that every graph of average degree more than $l-2$ contains a path of order $l$ for $l\ge 2$. In this paper, we obtain a stability version of the Erdős-Gallai Theorem in terms of minimum degree. Let $G$ be a connected graph of order $n$ and $F=(\bigcup_{i=1}^kP_{2a_i})\bigcup(\bigcup_{i=1}^lP_{2b_i+1})$ be $k+l$ disjoint paths of order $2a_1, \ldots, 2a_{k}, 2b_1+1, \ldots, 2b_l+1,$ respectively, where $k\ge 0$, $0\le l\le 2$, and $k+l\geq 2$. If the minimum degree $δ(G)\ge \sum_{i=1}^ka_i+\sum_{i=1}^lb_i-1$, then $F\subseteq G$ except several classes of graphs …
Assume that D is a digraph without cyclic triangles and its vertices are partitioned into classes A_1,...,A_t of independent vertices. A set $U=\cup_{i\in S} A_i$ is called a dominating set of size |S| if for any vertex $v\in \cup_{i\notin S} A_i$ there is a w in U such that (w,v) is in E(D). Let beta(D) be the cardinality of the largest independent set of D whose vertices are from different partite classes of D. Our main result says that there exists a h=h(beta(D)) such that D has a dominating set of size at most h. This result is applied to settle a problem related to generalized Gallai colo…
Let $G$ be a nontrivial connected and edge-colored graph. An edge-cut $R$ of $G$ is called a rainbow cut if no two edges of it are colored with a same color. An edge-colored graph $G$ is called rainbow disconnected if for every two distinct vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$, there exists a $u-v$ rainbow cut separating them. For a connected graph $G$, the rainbow disconnection number of $G$, denoted by $rd(G)$, is defined as the smallest number of colors that are needed in order to make $G$ rainbow disconnected. In this paper, we will study the Erdős-Gallai-type results for $rd(G)$, and completely so…
A well-known theorem of Erdős and Gallai asserts that a graph with no path of length $k$ contains at most $\frac{1}{2}(k-1)n$ edges. Recently Győri, Katona and Lemons gave an extension of this result to hypergraphs by determining the maximum number of hyperedges in an $r$-uniform hypergraph containing no Berge path of length $k$ for all values of $r$ and $k$ except for $k=r+1$. We settle the remaining case by proving that an $r$-uniform hypergraph with more than $n$ hyperedges must contain a Berge path of length $r+1$.
A Gallai coloring of a complete graph $K_n$ is an edge coloring without triangles colored with three different colors. A sequence $e_1\ge \dots \ge e_k$ of positive integers is an $(n,k)$-sequence if $\sum_{i=1}^k e_i=\binom{n}{2}$. An $(n,k)$-sequence is a G-sequence if there is a Gallai coloring of $K_n$ with $k$ colors such that there are $e_i$ edges of color $i$ for all $i,1\le i \le k$. Gyárfás, Pálvölgyi, Patkós and Wales proved that for any integer $k\ge 3$ there exists an integer $g(k)$ such that every $(n,k)$-sequence is a G-sequence if and only if $n\ge g(k)$. They showed that $g(3)=…
For an edge-colored graph $G$, we call an edge-cut $M$ of $G$ monochromatic if the edges of $M$ are colored with a same color. The graph $G$ is called monochromatically disconnected if any two distinct vertices of $G$ are separated by a monochromatic edge-cut. The monochromatic disconnection number, denoted by $md(G)$, of a connected graph $G$ is the maximum number of colors that are allowed to make $G$ monochromatically disconnected. In this paper, we solve the Erdős-Gallai-type problems for the monochromatic disconnection, and give the monochromatic disconnection numbers for four graph produ…
A colored complete graph is said to be Gallai-colored if it contains no rainbow triangle. This property has been shown to be equivalent to the existence of a partition of the vertices (of every induced subgraph) in which at most two colors appear on edges between the parts and at most one color appears on edges in between each pair of parts. We extend this notion by defining a coloring of a complete graph to be $k$-Gallai if every induced subgraph has a nontrivial partition of the vertices such that there are at most $k$ colors present in between parts of the partition. The generalized $(k, \e…
The Erdős--Gallai Theorem states that for $k \geq 3$, any $n$-vertex graph with no cycle of length at least $k$ has at most $\frac{1}{2}(k-1)(n-1)$ edges. A stronger version of the Erdős--Gallai Theorem was given by Kopylov: If $G$ is a 2-connected $n$-vertex graph with no cycle of length at least $k$, then $e(G) \leq \max\{h(n,k,2),h(n,k,\lfloor \frac{k-1}{2}\rfloor)\}$, where $h(n,k,a) := {k - a \choose 2} + a(n - k + a)$. Furthermore, Kopylov presented the two possible extremal graphs, one with $h(n,k,2)$ edges and one with $h(n,k,\lfloor \frac{k-1}{2}\rfloor)$ edges. In this paper, we comp…
For a 2-connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices and two vertices $x,y\in V(G)$, we prove that there is an $(x,y)$-path of length at least $k$ if there are at least $\frac{n-1}{2}$ vertices in $V(G)\backslash \{x,y\}$ of degree at least $k$. This strengthens a well-known theorem due to Erdős and Gallai in 1959. As the first application of this result, we show that a 2-connected graph with $n$ vertices contains a cycle of length at least $2k$ if it has at least $\frac{n}{2}+k$ vertices of degree at least $k$. This confirms a 1975 conjecture made by Woodall. As another applications, we obtain some re…
The famous Erdős-Gallai Theorem on the Turán number of paths states that every graph with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges contains a path with at least $\frac{2m}{n}$ edges. In this note, we first establish a simple but novel extension of the Erdős-Gallai Theorem by proving that every graph $G$ contains a path with at least $\frac{(s+1)N_{s+1}(G)}{N_{s}(G)}+s-1$ edges, where $N_j(G)$ denotes the number of $j$-cliques in $G$ for $1\leq j\leqω(G)$. We also construct a family of graphs which shows our extension improves the estimate given by Erdős-Gallai Theorem. Among applications, we show, for examp…
For a graph $H$ and an integer $k\ge1$, the $k$-color Ramsey number $R_k(H)$ is the least integer $N$ such that every $k$-coloring of the edges of the complete graph $K_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. Let $C_m$ denote the cycle on $m\ge4$ vertices and let $Θ_m$ denote the family of graphs obtained from $C_m$ by adding an additional edge joining two non-consecutive vertices. Unlike Ramsey number of odd cycles, little is known about the general behavior of $R_k(C_{2n})$ except that $R_k(C_{2n})\ge (n-1)k+n+k-1$ for all $k\ge2$ and $n\ge2$. In this paper, we study Ramsey number of even c…
Much recent progress in hypergraph Ramsey theory has focused on constructions that lead to lower bounds for the corresponding Ramsey numbers. In this paper, we consider applications of these results to Gallai colorings. That is, we focus on the Ramsey numbers resulting from only considering $t$-colorings of the hyperedges of complete $r$-uniform hypergraphs in which no rainbow $K_{r+1}^{(r)}$-subhypergraphs exists. We also provide new constructions which imply improved lower bounds for many $3$ and $4$-uniform Ramsey numbers and $3$ and $4$-uniform Gallai-Ramsey numbers.
A Gallai coloring of a complete graph is an edge-coloring such that no triangle has all its edges colored differently. A Gallai $k$-coloring is a Gallai coloring that uses $k$ colors. Given an integer $k\ge1$ and a graph $H$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ is the least positive integer $n$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. Gyárfás, Sárközy, Sebő and Selkow proved in 2010 that $GR_k (H) $ is exponential in $k$ if $H$ is not bipartite, linear in $k$ if $H$ is bipartite but not a star, and constant (does not depend on $k$) wh…
The Erdős-Gallai Theorem states that for $k \geq 2$, every graph of average degree more than $k - 2$ contains a $k$-vertex path. This result is a consequence of a stronger result of Kopylov: if $k$ is odd, $k=2t+1\geq 5$, $n \geq (5t-3)/2$, and $G$ is an $n$-vertex $2$-connected graph with at least $h(n,k,t) := {k-t \choose 2} + t(n -k+ t)$ edges, then $G$ contains a cycle of length at least $k$ unless $G = H_{n,k,t} := K_n - E(K_{n - t})$. In this paper we prove a stability version of the Erdős-Gallai Theorem: we show that for all $n \geq 3t > 3$, and $k \in \{2t+1,2t + 2\}$, every $n$-vertex…
A Gallai $k$-coloring is a $k$-edge coloring of a complete graph in which there are no rainbow triangles. For two given graphs $H, G$ and two positive integers $k,s$ with that $s\leq k$, the $k$-colored Gallai-Ramsey number $gr_{k}(K_{3}: s\cdot H,~ (k-s)\cdot G)$ is the minimum integer $n$ such that every Gallai $k$-colored $K_{n}$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$ colored by one of the first $s$ colors or a monochromatic copy of $G$ colored by one of the remaining $k-s$ colors. In this paper, we determine the value of Gallai-Ramsey number in the case that $H=K_{4}^{+}$ and $G=K_{3}$. Thus…
A Gallai coloring is a coloring of the edges of a complete graph without rainbow triangles, and a Gallai $k$-coloring is a Gallai coloring that uses at most $k$ colors. Given an integer $k\ge1$ and graphs $H_1, \ldots, H_k$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR(H_1, \ldots, H_k)$ is the least integer $n$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H_i$ in color $i$ for some $i \in \{1,2, \ldots, k\}$. When $H = H_1 = \cdots = H_k$, we simply write $GR_k(H)$. We study Gallai-Ramsey numbers of even cycles and paths. For all $n\ge3$ and $k\ge2$, let $…
A Gallai coloring is a coloring of the edges of a complete graph without rainbow triangles, and a Gallai $k$-coloring is a Gallai coloring that uses $k$ colors. Given an integer $k\ge1$ and graphs $H_1, \ldots, H_k$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR(H_1, \ldots, H_k)$ is the least integer $n$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H_i$ in color $i$ for some $i \in \{1, \ldots, k\}$. When $H = H_1 = \cdots = H_k$, we simply write $GR_k(H)$. We continue to study Gallai-Ramsey numbers of even cycles and paths. For all $n\ge3$ and $k\ge1$, let…
We also consider a variant on this conjecture: if $τ_B(G)$ is the smallest size of an edge set whose deletion makes $G$ bipartite, does the stronger inequality $α_1(G) + τ_B(G) \leq n^2/4$ always hold? By considering the structure of a minimal count…
Gallai-colorings are edge-colored complete graphs in which there are no rainbow triangles. Within such colored complete graphs, we consider Ramsey-type questions, looking for specified monochromatic graphs. In this work, we consider monochromatic bipartite graphs since the numbers are known to grow more slowly than for non-bipartite graphs. The main result shows that it suffices to consider only $3$-colorings which have a special partition of the vertices. Using this tool, we find several sharp numbers and conjecture the sharp value for all bipartite graphs. In particular, we determine the Gal…
We study Ramsey-type problems in Gallai-colorings. Given a graph $G$ and an integer $k\ge1$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $gr_k(K_3,G)$ is the least positive integer $n$ such that every $k$-coloring of the edges of the complete graph on $n$ vertices contains either a rainbow triangle or a monochromatic copy of $G$. It turns out that $gr_k(K_3, G)$ behaves more nicely than the classical Ramsey number $r_k(G)$. However, finding exact values of $gr_k (K_3, G)$ is far from trivial. In this paper, we prove that $gr_k(K_3, C_9)= 4\cdot 2^k+1$ for all $k\ge1$. This new result provides partial evidence fo…
In 1959, Erdős and Gallai proved that every graph G with average vertex degree ad(G)\geq 2 contains a cycle of length at least ad(G). We provide an algorithm that for k\geq 0 in time 2^{O(k)} n^{O(1)} decides whether a 2-connected n-vertex graph G contains a cycle of length at least ad(G)+k. This resolves an open problem explicitly mentioned in several papers. The main ingredients of our algorithm are new graph-theoretical results interesting on their own.
Given a graph $H$ and an integer $k\ge1$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ is defined to be the minimum integer $n$ such that every $k$-edge coloring of $K_n$ contains either a rainbow (all different colored) triangle or a monochromatic copy of $H$. In this paper, we determine the Gallai-Ramsey numbers for connected graphs with five vertices of chromatic number four.
Given a graph $G$ and a positive integer $k$, the \emph{Gallai-Ramsey number} is defined to be the minimum number of vertices $n$ such that any $k$-edge coloring of $K_n$ contains either a rainbow (all different colored) triangle or a monochromatic copy of $G$. In this paper, we obtain general upper and lower bounds on the Gallai-Ramsey numbers for books $B_{m} = K_{2} + \overline{K_{m}}$ and prove sharp results for $m \leq 5$.
A Gallai $k$-coloring is a $k$-edge coloring of a complete graph in which there are no rainbow triangles. For given graphs $G_1, G_2, G_3$ and nonnegative integers $r, s, t$ with that $k=r+s+t$, the $k$-colored Gallai-Ramsey number $gr_{k}(K_{3}: r\cdot G_1,~ s\cdot G_2, ~t\cdot G_3)$ is the minimum integer $n$ such that every Gallai $k$-colored $K_{n}$ contains a monochromatic copy of $G_1$ colored by one of the first $r$ colors or a monochromatic copy of $G_2$ colored by one of the middle $s$ colors or a monochromatic copy of $G_3$ colored by one of the last $t$ colors. In this paper, we det…
Extensions of Erdős-Gallai Theorem for general hypergraphs are well studied. In this work, we prove the extension of Erdős-Gallai Theorem for linear hypergraphs. In particular, we show that the number of hyperedges in an $n$-vertex $3$-uniform linear hypergraph, without a Berge path of length $k$ as a subgraph is at most $\frac{(k-1)}{6}n$ for $k\geq 4$.
Given a graph $G$ and a positive integer $k$, define the \emph{Gallai-Ramsey number} to be the minimum number of vertices $n$ such that any $k$-edge coloring of $K_n$ contains either a rainbow (all different colored) triangle or a monochromatic copy of $G$. In this paper, we obtain general upper and lower bounds on the Gallai-Ramsey numbers for fans $F_{m} = K_{1} + mK_{2}$ and prove the sharp result for $m = 2$ and for $m = 3$ with $k$ even.
Given graphs $G$ and $H$ and a positive integer $k$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $gr_{k}(G : H)$ is the minimum integer $N$ such that for any integer $n \geq N$, every $k$-edge-coloring of $K_{n}$ contains either a rainbow copy of $G$ or a monochromatic copy of $H$. These numbers have recently been studied for the case when $G = K_{3}$, where still only a few precise numbers are known for all $k$. In this paper, we extend the known precise Gallai-Ramsey numbers to include $H = C_{8}$ for all $k$.
Given two graphs $G$ and $H$ and a positive integer $k$, the $k$-color Gallai-Ramsey number, denoted by $gr_{k}(G : H)$, is the minimum integer $N$ such that for all $n \geq N$, every $k$-coloring of the edges of $K_{n}$ contains either a rainbow copy of $G$ or a monochromatic copy of $H$. We prove that $gr_{k} (K_{3} : C_{2\ell + 1}) = \ell \cdot 2^{k} + 1$ for all $k \geq 1$ and $\ell \geq 3$.
Much like graph Ramsey numbers, Gallai-Ramsey numbers have gained a reputation as being very difficult to compute in general. As yet, still only precious few sharp results are known. In this paper, we obtain bounds on the Gallai-Ramsey number for wheels and the exact value for the wheel on $5$ vertices.
