We study the equation \begin{equation*}\label{P0} (-Δ)^s u = |x|^α u^{\frac{N+2s+2α}{N-2s}}\mbox{ in }\mathbb{R}^N,\tag{P} \end{equation*} where $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional Laplacian operator with $0 < s < 1$, $α>-2s$ and $N>2s$. We prove the linear non-degeneracy of positive radially symmetric solutions of the equation (\ref{P0}) and, as a consequence, a uniqueness result of those solutions with Morse index equal to one. In particular, the ground state solution is unique. Our non-degeneracy result extends in the radial setting some known theorems done by Dávila, Del Pino and Sire (see \cite[Theorem 1.1]{Davila-DelPino-Sire}), and Gladiali, Grossi and Neves (see \cite[Theorem 1.3]{Gladiali-Grossi-Neves}).
We prove the nondegeneracy of the extremals of the fractional Sobolev inequality as solutions of a critical semilinear nonlocal equation involving the fractional Laplacian.
We are concerned with the mean field equation with singular data on bounded domains. Under suitable non-degeneracy conditions we prove local uniqueness and non-degeneracy of bubbling solutions blowing up at singular points. The proof is based on sharp estimates for bubbling solutions of singular mean field equations and suitably defined Pohozaev-type identities.
We are concerned with the focusing $L^2$-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$ for $d=1,2$. The uniqueness is proved for a large energy class of multi-bubble blow-up solutions, which converge to a sum of $K$ pseudo-conformal blow-up solutions particularly with low rate $(T-t)^{0+}$, as $t\to T$, $1\leq K<\infty$. Moreover, we also prove the uniqueness in the energy class of multi-solitons which converge to a sum of $K$ solitary waves with convergence rate $(1/t)^{2+}$, as $t\to \infty$. The uniqueness class is further enlarged to contain the multi-solitons with even lower …
The aim of this paper is to complete the program initiated in [50], [23] and then carried out by several authors concerning non-degeneracy and uniqueness of solutions to mean field equations. In particular, we consider mean field equations with general singular data on non-smooth domains. The argument is based on the Alexandrov-Bol inequality and on the eigenvalues analysis of linearized singular Liouville-type problems.
We derive a weak-strong uniqueness principle for BV solutions to multiphase mean curvature flow of triple line clusters in three dimensions. Our proof is based on the explicit construction of a gradient-flow calibration in the sense of the recent work of Fischer et al. [arXiv:2003.05478v2] for any such cluster. This extends the two-dimensional construction to the three-dimensional case of surfaces meeting along triple junctions.
In this note we show non-degeneracy and uniqueness results for solutions of Toda systems associated to general simple Lie algebras with multiple singular sources on bounded domains. The argument is based on spectral properties of Cartan matrices and eigenvalue analysis of linearized Liouville-type problems. This seems to be the first result for this class of problems and it covers all the Lie algebras of any rank.
We are concerned with the Lane-Emden problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu=u^{p} &{\text{in}~Ω},\\[0.5mm] u>0 &{\text{in}~Ω},\\[0.5mm] u=0 &{\text{on}~\partial Ω}, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb R^2$ is a smooth bounded domain and $p>1$ is sufficiently large. Improving some known asymptotic estimates on the solutions, we prove the non-degeneracy and local uniqueness of the multi-spikes positive solutions for general domains. Our methods mainly use ODE's theory, various local Pohozaev identities, blow-up analysis and the properties of Green's function.
This is the second part of a two-paper series that establishes the uniqueness and regularity of a threshold energy wave map that does not scatter in both time directions. Consider the two-sphere valued equivariant energy critical wave maps equation on 1+2 dimensional Minkowski space, with equivariance class k > 3. It is known that every topologically trivial wave map with energy less than twice that of the unique k-equivariant harmonic map Q scatters in both time directions. We study maps with precisely the threshold energy, i.e., twice the energy of Q. In the first part of the series we gave …
We consider the positive solutions for the nonlocal Choquard equation $- Δu + u - (|\cdot|^{-α} * |u|^p) |u|^{p-2} u = 0$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Compared with ground states, positive solutions form a larger class of solutions and lack variational information. Within the range of parameters of Ma-Zhao's result [Ma-Zhao, 2010] on symmetry, we prove a priori estimates for positive solutions, generalizing the classical method of De Figueiredo-Lions-Russbaum [De Figueiredo-Lions-Nussbaum, 1982] to the unbounded domain and the nonlocal nonlinearity in our model. As an application, we show uniqueness and…
We consider the Pekar functional on a ball in R^3. We prove uniqueness of minimizers, and a quadratic lower bound in terms of the distance to the minimizer. The latter follows from non-degeneracy of the Hessian at the minimum.
We prove the uniqueness and non-degeneracy of positive solutions to a cubic nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) type equation that describes nucleons. The main difficulty stems from the fact that the mass depends on the solution itself. As an application, we construct solutions to the $σ$--$ω$ model, which consists of one Dirac equation coupled to two Klein-Gordon equations (one focusing and one defocusing).
In this paper we first prove a general result about the uniqueness and non-degeneracy of positive radial solutions to equations of the form $Δu+g(u)=0$. Our result applies in particular to the double power non-linearity where $g(u)=u^q-u^p-μu$ for $p>q>1$ and $μ>0$, which we discuss with more details. In this case, the non-degeneracy of the unique solution $u_μ$ allows us to derive its behavior in the two limits $μ\to0$ and $μ\toμ_*$ where $μ_*$ is the threshold of existence. This gives the uniqueness of energy minimizers at fixed mass in certain regimes. We also make a conjecture about the va…
In this paper, we investigate the critical points of solutions to the prescribed constant mean curvature equation with Neumann and Robin boundary conditions respectively in a bounded smooth convex domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^{n}(n\geq2)$. Firstly, we show the non-degeneracy and uniqueness of the critical points of solutions in a planar domain by using the local Chen & Huang's comparison technique and the geometric properties of approximate surfaces at the non-degenerate critical points. Secondly, we deduce the uniqueness and non-degeneracy of the critical points of solutions in a rotationally sy…
We prove the non-degeneracy of the extremals of the Sobolev inequality $$\int\limits_{\mathbb R^N}|\nabla u|^pdx\ge \mathcal S_p\int\limits_{\mathbb R^N}|u|^{Np\over N-p}dx,\ u\in \mathcal D^{1,p}(\mathbb R^N)$$ when $1<p<N,$ as solutions of a critical quasilinear equation involving the $p-$Laplacian.
We study the Gauss curvature equation with negative singularities. For a local mean field type equation with only one negative index we prove a uniqueness property. For a global equation with one or two negative indexes we prove the non-degeneracy of the linearized equations.

Motivated by the statistical mechanics description of stationary 2D-turbulence, for a sinh-Poisson type equation with asymmetric nonlinearity, we construct a concentrating solution sequence in the form of a tower of singular Liouville bubbles, each of which has a different degeneracy exponent. The asymmetry parameter $γ\in(0,1]$ corresponds to the ratio between the intensity of the negatively rotating vortices and the intensity of the positively rotating vortices. Our solutions correspond to a superposition of highly concentrated vortex configurations of alternating orientation; they extend in…
For singular mean field equations defined on a compact Riemann surface, we prove the uniqueness of bubbling solutions if some blowup points coincide with bubbling sources. If the strength of the bubbling sources at blowup points are not multiple of $4π$ we prove that bubbling solutions are unique under non-degeneracy assumptions. This work extends a previous work of Bartolucci, et, al \cite{bart-4}.
We are concerned with the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$-\varepsilon^2Δu+ V(x)u=|u|^{p-2}u,~u\in H^1(\R^N),$$ where $N\geq 3$, $2<p<\frac{2N}{N-2}$. For $\varepsilon$ small enough and a class of $V(x)$, we show the uniqueness of positive multi-bump solutions concentrating at $k$ different critical points of $V(x)$ under certain assumptions on asymptotic behavior of $V(x)$ and its first derivatives near those points. The degeneracy of critical points is allowed in this paper.
We are concerned with the multi-bubble blow-up solutions to rough nonlinear Schrödinger equations in the focusing mass-critical case. In both dimensions one and two, we construct the finite time multi-bubble solutions, which concentrate at $K$ distinct points, $1\leq K<\infty$, and behave asymptotically like a sum of pseudo-conformal blow-up solutions in the pseudo-conformal space $Σ$ near the blow-up time. The upper bound of the asymptotic behavior is closely related to the flatness of noise at blow-up points. Moreover, we prove the conditional uniqueness of multi-bubble solutions in the case…
We consider wave maps from $\mathbb R^{2+1}$ to a $C^\infty$-smooth Riemannian manifold, $\mathcal N$. Such maps can exhibit energy concentration, and at points of concentration, it is known that the map (suitably rescaled and translated) converges weakly to a harmonic map, known as a bubble. We give an example of a wave map which exhibits a type of non-uniqueness of bubbling. In particular, we exhibit a continuum of different bubbles at the origin, each of which arise as the weak limit along a different sequence of times approaching the blow-up time. This is the first known example of non-uni…
\begin{abstract} We consider the following poly-harmonic equations with critical exponents: \begin{equation}\label{P} (-Δ)^m u =K(y)u^{\frac{N+2m}{N-2m}},\;\;\; u>0\;\;\;\hbox{in} \mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation} where $N> 2m+2,m\in\mathbb{N}_{+}, K(y)$ is positive and periodic in its first $k$ variables $(y_1,\cdots, y_k)$, $1\leq k<\frac{N-2m}{2}$. Under some conditions on $K(y)$ near its critical point, we prove not only that problem~\eqref{P} admits solutions with infinitely many bubbles, but also that the bubbling solutions obtained in our existence result are locally unique. This local uniqu…
We consider a general class of focusing $L^2$-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations with lower order perturbations, for which the pseudo-conformal symmetry and the conservation law of energy are absent. In dimensions one and two, we construct Bourgain-Wang type solutions concentrating at $K$ distinct singularities, $1\leq K<\infty$, and prove that they are unique if the asymptotic behavior is within the order $(T-t)^{4+}$, for $t$ close to the blow-up time $T$. These results apply to the canonical nonlinear Schrödinger equations and, through the pseudo-conformal transform, in particular yie…
In this paper, we present local Hölder estimates for the degenerate Keller-Segel system \eqref{eq-cases-aligned-main-problem-of-Keller-Segel-System} below in the range of $m>1$ and $q>1$ before a blow-up of solutions. To deal with difficulties caused by the degeneracy of the operator, we find uniform estimates depending sup-norm of the density function and modified the energy estimates and intrinsic scales considered in Porous Medium Equation. As its application, the uniqueness of weak solution to \eqref{eq-cases-aligned-main-problem-of-Keller-Segel-System} is also showed in the class of Hölde…
A General and Unified Method to prove the Uniqueness of Ground State Solutions and the Existence/Non-existence, and Multiplicity of Normalized Solutions with applications to various NLS
We study the Cauchy problem for the quasilinear wave equation $ \partial^2 _t u = u^{2a} \partial^2_x u + F(u) u_x $ with $a \geq 0$ and show a result for the local in time existence under new conditions. In the previous results, it is assumed that $u(0,x) \geq c_0>0$ for some constant $c_0$ to prove the existence and the uniqueness. This assumption ensures that the equation does not degenerate. In this paper, we allow the equation to degenerate at spacial infinity. Namely we consider the local well-posedness under the assumption that $u(0,x)>0$ and $u(0,x) \rightarrow 0$ as $|x| \rightarrow \…
We show that any compact surface of genus zero in Euclidean 3-space that satisfies a quasiconformal inequality between its principal curvatures is a round sphere. This solves an old open problem by H. Hopf, and gives a spherical version of Simon's quasiconformal Bernstein theorem. The result generalizes, among others, Hopf's theorem for constant mean curvature spheres, the classification of round spheres as the only compact elliptic Weingarten surfaces of genus zero, and the uniqueness theorem for ovaloids by Han, Nadirashvili and Yuan. The proof relies on the Bers-Nirenberg representation of …
We revisit the following nonlinear critical elliptic equation \begin{equation*} -Δu+Q(y)u=u^{\frac{N+2}{N-2}},\;\;\; u>0\;\;\;\hbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation*} where $N\geq 5.$ There seems to be no results about the periodicity of bubbling solutions. Here we try to investigate some related problems. Assuming that $Q(y)$ is periodic in $y_1$ with period 1 and has a local minimum at 0 satisfying $Q(0)=0,$ we prove the existence and local uniqueness of infinitely many bubbling solutions of the problem above. This local uniqueness result implies that some bubbling solutions preserve the sy…
We study two identification problems in relation with a strongly degenerate parabolic diffusion equation characterized by a vanishing diffusion coefficient $u\in W^{1,\infty},$ with the property $\frac{1}{u}\notin L^{1}. $ The aim is to identify $u$ from certain observations on the solution, by a technique of nonlinear optimal control with control in coefficients. The existence of a controller $u$ which is searched in $% W^{1,\infty}$ and the determination of the optimality conditions are given for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. An approximating problem further introduced allows a …
In this paper, we derive the time-fractional Cahn-Hilliard equation from continuum mixture theory with a modification of Fick's law of diffusion. This model describes the process of phase separation with nonlocal memory effects. We analyze the existence, uniqueness, and regularity of weak solutions of the time-fractional Cahn-Hilliard equation. In this regard, we consider degenerating mobility functions and free energies of Landau, Flory--Huggins and double-obstacle type. We apply the Faedo-Galerkin method to the system, derive energy estimates, and use compactness theorems to pass to the limi…
We consider equation $-Δu+f(x,u)=0$ in smooth bounded domain $Ω\in\mathbb{R}^N$, $N\geqslant2$, with $f(x,r)>0$ in $Ω\times\mathbb{R}^1_+$ and $f(x,r)=0$ on $\partialΩ$. We find the condition on the order of degeneracy of $f(x,r)$ near $\partialΩ$, which is a criterion of the existence-nonexistence of a very singular solution with a strong point singularity on $\partialΩ$. Moreover, we prove that the mentioned condition is a sufficient condition for the uniqueness of a large solution and conjecture that this condition is also a necessary condition of the uniqueness.
In this paper, we consider the following singularly perturbed fractional Kirchhoff problem \begin{equation*} \Big(\varepsilon^{2s}a+\varepsilon^{4s-N} b{\int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}}|(-Δ)^{\frac{s}{2}}u|^2dx\Big)(-Δ)^su+V(x)u=|u|^{p-2}u,\quad \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{equation*} where $a,b>0$, $2s<N<4s$ with $s\in(0,1)$, $2<p<2^*_s=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$ and $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional Laplacian. For $\varepsilon> 0$ sufficiently small and a bounded continuous function $V$, we establish a type of local Pohozǎev identity by extension technique and then we can obtain the local uniqueness of semiclassica…

The study of the uniqueness and nondegeneracy of ground state solutions to semilinear elliptic equations is of great importance because of the resulting energy landscape and its implications for the various dynamics. In [AIKN3], semilinear elliptic equations with combined power-type nonlinearities involving the Sobolev critical exponent are studied. There, it is shown that if the dimension is four or higher, and the frequency is sufficiently small, then the positive radial ground state is unique and nondegenerate. In this paper, we extend these results to the case of high frequencies when the …
