Structure in the di-$J/ψ$ mass spectrum observed by the LHCb experiment around 6.9 and 7.2 GeV is interpreted in terms of $J^{PC}=0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ resonances between a $cc$ diquark and a $\bar c \bar c$ antidiquark, using a recently confirmed string-junction picture to calculate tetraquark masses. The main peak around 6.9 GeV is likely dominated by the $0^{++}(2S)$ state, a radial excitation of the $cc$-$\bar c \bar c$ tetraquark, which we predict at $6.871\pm 0.025$ GeV. The dip around 6.75 GeV is ascribed to the opening of the \Swave\ di-$χ_{c0}$ channel, while the dip around 7.2 GeV could be correlated with the opening of the di-$η_c(2S)$ or $Ξ_{cc} \bar Ξ_{cc}$ channel. The low-mass part of the di-$J/ψ$ structure appears to require a broad resonance consistent with a predicted $2^{++}(1S)$ state with invariant mass around $M_{\rm inv} = 6400$ MeV. Implications for $bb \bar b \bar b$ tetraquarks are discussed.
We present a QCD-based approach to the endpoint region of the lepton spectrum in $\bar B\to X_u\,\ell\,\barν$ decays. We introduce a genuinely nonperturbative form factor, the shape function, which describes the fall-off of the spectrum close to the endpoint. The moments of this function are related to forward scattering matrix elements of local, higher-dimension operators. We find that nonperturbative effects are dominant over a finite region in the lepton energy spectrum, the width of which is related to the kinetic energy of the $b$-quark inside the $B$ meson. Applications of our method to …
A coupled-channel approach including the $Λ_c\bar{D}^{(*)}$ and $η_c p$ channels in addition to the $Σ_c^{(*)}\bar{D}^{(*)}$ and $J/ψp$ channels, as required by unitarity and heavy quark spin symmetry (HQSS), is applied to the hidden-charm pentaquark $P_c$ states, i.e., $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$, discovered by LHCb Collaboration. It is demonstrated that to obtain cutoff independent results, the one-pion exchange potential in the multichannel systems is to be supplemented with next-leading order counter terms responsible for the $S$-wave-to-$D$-wave transitions. We show that the …
The data collected by ATIC, PPB-BETS, FERMI-LAT and HESS all indicate that there is an electron/positron excess in the cosmic ray energy spectrum above $\sim$ 100 GeV, although different instrumental teams do not agree on the detailed spectral shape. PAMELA also reported a clear excess feature of the positron fraction above several GeV, but no excess in anti-protons. Here we review the observational status and theoretical models of this interesting observational feature. We pay special attention to various physical interpretations proposed in the literature, including modified supernova remnan…
We discuss possible interpretations of the 37 high energy neutrino events observed by the IceCube experiment in the South Pole. We examine the possibility to explain the observed neutrino spectrum exclusively by the decays of a heavy long-lived particle of mass in the PeV range. We compare this with the standard scenario, namely, a single power-law spectrum related to neutrinos produced by astrophysical sources and a viable hybrid situation where the spectrum is a product of two components: a power-law and the long-lived particle decays. We present a simple extension of the Standard Model that…
The KATRIN experiment has recently reported a new upper limit to the mass of the electron neutrino of $m<0.8 eV$ (90\%CL), and a best value of $m^2= 0.26 \pm 0.34 eV^2/c^4$ based on a fit to the observed tritium beta decay spectrum. Here another interpretation of their results is discussed.
We propose an alternative mechanism based upon dark matter (DM) interpretation for anomalous peak signatures in cosmic ray measurements, assuming an extended dark sector with two DM species. This is contrasted with previous effort to explain various line-like cosmic-ray excesses in the context of DM models where the relevant DM candidate directly annihilates into Standard Model (SM) particles. The heavier DM is assumed to annihilate to an on-shell intermediate state. As the simplest choice, it decays directly into the lighter DM along with an unstable particle which in turn decays to a pair of…
LHAASO J0621$+$3755 is a TeV gamma-ray halo newly identified by LHAASO-KM2A. It is likely to be generated by electrons trapped in a slow-diffusion zone around PSR J0622$+$3749 through inverse Compton scattering. When the gamma-ray spectrum of LHAASO-KM2A is fitted, the GeV fluxes derived by the commonly used one-zone normal diffusion model for electron propagation are significantly higher than the upper limits (ULs) of Fermi-LAT. In this work, we respectively adopt the one-zone superdiffusion and two-zone normal diffusion models to solve this conflict. For the superdiffusion scenario, we find …
The gamma-ray halo around Geminga is formed owing to the slow diffusion of the electrons released by the Geminga PWN. The latest HAWC and HESS observations exhibit complex features in the TeV gamma-ray spectrum of the Geminga halo. We first show that the new results cannot be interpreted by the commonly used simple model, where a single power-law injection spectrum and an energy index of $δ=1/3$ for the diffusion coefficient are assumed. We then propose a two-population electron injection model based on the x-ray observations of the Geminga PWN, which consists of a population of freshly accele…
A brief review of the energy spectrum of primary cosmic rays above $10^{10}$ eV and the measurement techniques used to investigate the ultra high energy ones is given. This is followed by a discussion of the atmospheric shower profile of the highest energy event observed using the Fly's Eye detector. Finally, cosmic ray simulation tools are discussed and used to investigate the heavy ion interpretation of the highest energy primary. The best way to contribute further to the understanding of this issue is by the collection of new and better data.
The spectrum and decay properties of radially excited $D_s$ states are examined in a new model. Good agreement is obtained with the properties of two recently announced $D_s$ mesons identified as $D_{s0}(2860) = c\bar{s}(2P)$ and $D^*_{s}(2690) = c\bar{s}$ as a possible mixture of $(2S;{}^3S_1)$ and $(1D;{}^3D_1)$. Searching for these mesons in B decays is advocated due to large predicted branching ratios.
The Lehmann-Newton-Wu mass matrix, which was recently applied to neutrinos, is further investigated. The analytic results presented earlier are confirmed numerically for the solar density profile of the Standard Solar Model. The combined analysis of atmospheric and solar neutrino data favors the MSW solution over the vacuum-oscillation solution. The total rates from the solar neutrino detectors and spectrum distortion reported by the Super-Kamiokande collaboration for solar neutrinos favors one heavy (m3\sim 0.05 eV) and two light (m1, m2\lsim 0.003 eV) neutrinos.
The strong decays of the low-lying $λ$-mode $Λ_b(1D,2S)$ and $Σ_b(2S)$ states are studied in a chiral quark model. We find that: (i) the newly observed $Λ_b(6146/6152)$ resonances in the $Λ_bπ^+π^-$ spectrum by the LHCb Collaboration might be explained with the $λ$-mode $Λ_b(1D)$ states in the quark model. It should be emphasized that whether the structure in the $Λ_bπ^+π^-$ spectrum correspond to two states or one state should be further clarified with more observations in future experiments. (ii) The $Λ_b(2S)$ $|J^P = \frac{1}{2}^+,0\rangle$ state mainly decays into $Σ_b^*π$ channel, which m…
It is shown that in the special infinite momentum frame where photon has pure transverse components at $P\rightarrow\infty$ the spin-dependent deep inelastic structure function $ g_{2}(x)$ has a reasonable interpretation in terms of quark-parton wave functions, whereas in the conventional frame where photon has pure z-component the parton model fails for $ g_{2}(x)$.The spin dependent structure functions $ g_{1}(x)$ and $ g_{2}(x)$ have been calculated in the relativistic quark model constructed in such frame. The results indicate significant twist-3 contribution.
The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) experiment has recently announced the first results for the measurement of total electron plus positron fluxes between 25 GeV and 4.6 TeV. A spectral break at about 0.9 TeV and a tentative peak excess around 1.4 TeV have been found. However, it is very difficult to reproduce both the peak signal and the smooth background including spectral break simultaneously. We point out that the numbers of events in the two energy ranges (bins) close to the 1.4 TeV excess have $1σ$ deficits. With the basic physics principles such as simplicity and naturalness, we c…
Recent measurements of the Geminga and B0656+14 pulsars by the gamma-ray telescope HAWC (along with earlier measurements by Milagro) indicate that these objects generate significant fluxes of very high-energy electrons. In this paper, we use the very high-energy gamma-ray intensity and spectrum of these pulsars to calculate and constrain their expected contributions to the local cosmic-ray positron spectrum. Among models that are capable of reproducing the observed characteristics of the gamma-ray emission, we find that pulsars invariably produce a flux of high-energy positrons that is similar…
IceCube has recently observed 37 events of TeV-PeV energies. The angular distribution, with a strong preference for downgoing directions, the spectrum, and the small muon to shower ratio in the data can not be accommodated assuming standard interactions of atmospheric neutrinos. We obtain an excellent fit, however, if a diffuse flux of ultrahigh energy (cosmogenic) neutrinos experiences collisions where only a small fraction of the energy is transferred to the target nucleon. We show that consistent models of TeV gravity or other non-Wilsonian completions of the standard model provide cross se…
This paper has been withdrawn. The interpretation of tension spectrum of cosmic superstrings in terms of KK momentum is invalid as presented in section 2. A new paper based on calculations of the KK spectrum presented here will be submitted.
Recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported pronounced structures in the invariant mass spectrum of $J/ψ$-pairs produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. In this Letter, we argue that the data can be very well described within two variants of a coupled-channel approach employing $T$-matrices consistent with unitarity: (i) with just two channels, $J/ψJ/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)J/ψ$, as long as energy-dependent interactions in these channels are allowed, or (ii) with three channels $J/ψJ/ψ$, $ψ(2S)J/ψ$ and $ψ(3770)J/ψ$ with just constant contact interactions. Both formulations hint at…
We show that the cusp in the dark matter (DM) distribution required to explain the recently found excess in the gamma-ray spectrum at energies ~130 GeV in terms of the DM annihilations cannot survive the tidal forces if it is offset by ~1.5^\circ from the Galactic centre as suggested by observations.
The isotropic gamma-ray background arises from the contribution of unresolved sources, including members of confirmed source classes and proposed gamma-ray emitters such as the radiation induced by dark matter annihilation and decay. Clues about the properties of the contributing sources are imprinted in the anisotropy characteristics of the gamma-ray background. We use 81 months of Pass 7 Reprocessed data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope to perform a measurement of the anisotropy angular power spectrum of the gamma-ray background. We analyze energies between 0.5 and 500 GeV, extending the …
$D_s$ mesons are investigated in a semi-classic flux tube model where the spin-orbit interaction is taken into account. Spectrum of D-wave $D_s$ is predicted. The predicted spectrum is much lower than most previous predictions. Analysis of some $D_s$ candidates is made. $D_{sJ}(2632)^+$ may be a $1^-$ ($j^P={3\over 2}^-$ or $1^3D_1$) orbitally excited $D_s$ meson. $D_{s1}(2700)^\pm$ is very possible the first radially excited $1^-$ ($j^P={1\over 2}^-$ or $2^3S_1$) $D_s$ meson (the first radial excitation of $D^{\star\pm}_s(2112)^0$). $D^\star_{sJ}(2860)^+$ should be a $3^-$ ($j^P={5\over 2}^-$…
The LHCb collaboration have recently updated their analysis of the resonant $J/ψ\, p$ mass spectrum in the decay $Λ_b^0 \to J/ψ\, p\, K^-$, making use of their combined Run~1 and Run~2 data. In the updated analysis, three narrow states, $P_c (4312)^+$, $P_c (4440)^+$, and $P_c (4457)^+$, are observed. The spin-parity assignments of these states are not yet known. We interpret these narrow resonances as compact hidden-charm diquark-diquark-antiquark pentaquarks. Using an effective Hamiltonian, based on constituent quarks and diquarks, we calculate the pentaquark mass spectrum for the complete $…
We study the nature of the new signal reported by LHCb in the J/psi p spectrum. Based on the S-matrix principles, we perform a minimum-bias analysis of the underlying reaction amplitude, focusing on the analytic properties that can be related to the microscopic origin of the Pc(4312) peak. By exploring several amplitude parametrizations, we find evidence for the attractive effect of the Sigma_c+ D0bar channel, which is not strong enough, however, to form a bound state.
We consider the analytic continuation of the transfer function for a 2x2 matrix Hamiltonian into the unphysical sheets of the energy Riemann surface. We construct a family of non-selfadjoint operators which reproduce certain parts of the transfer-function spectrum including resonances situated on the unphysical sheets neighboring the physical sheet. On this basis, completeness and basis properties for the root vectors of the transfer function (including those for the resonances) are proved.
Several groups have identified an extended excess of gamma rays over the modeled foreground and background emissions towards the Galactic center (GC) based on observations with the Fermi Large Area Telescope. This excess emission is compatible in morphology and spectrum with a telltale sign from dark matter (DM) annihilation. Here, we present a critical reassessment of DM interpretations of the GC signal in light of the foreground and background uncertainties that some of us recently outlaid in Calore et al. 2014. We find that a much larger number of DM models fits the gamma-ray data than prev…
Ten resonances were found in the mass spectrum of pi+pi- -system from the reaction np->nppi+pi- in np-interactions at Pn=5.20 GeV/c in the 1-m HBC of LHE JINR by using the criterion cos(teta)[c.m.c.] p>0. Such effects were not found in pi-pi0 - combinations from the reaction np->pppi-pi0. Therefore, it is necessary to attribute the value of isotopic spin I = 0 to the resonances found in the mass spectrum of the pi+pi- -system. The spin was estimated for the most statistically provided resonances. We determine with a high degree of confidence that J = 0 for the resonances at MR = 757 MeV/c^2 an…
