We introduce and investigate an adaptation of Fourier series to set-valued functions (multifunctions, SVFs) of bounded variation. In our approach we define an analogue of the partial sums of the Fourier series with the help of the Dirichlet kernel using the newly defined weighted metric integral. We derive error bounds for these approximants. As a consequence, we prove that the sequence of the partial sums converges pointwisely in the Hausdorff metric to the values of the approximated set-valued function at its points of continuity, or to a certain set described in terms of the metric selections of the approximated multifunction at a point of discontinuity. Our error bounds are obtained with the help of the new notions of one-sided local moduli and quasi-moduli of continuity which we discuss more generally for functions with values in metric spaces.
In the present paper, we give a brief review of $L^{1}$-convergence of trigonometric series. Previous known results in this direction are improved and generalized by establishing a new condition.
We establish Littlewood-Paley decompositions for Muckenhoupt weights in the setting of UMD spaces. As a consequence we obtain two-weight variants of the Mikhlin multiplier theorem for operator-valued multipliers. We also show two-weight estimates for multipliers satisfying Hörmander type conditions.
We prove a vector-valued version of Carleson's theorem: Let Y=[X,H]_t be a complex interpolation space between a UMD space X and a Hilbert space H. For p\in(1,\infty) and f\in L^p(T;Y), the partial sums of the Fourier series of f converge to f pointwise almost everywhere. Apparently, all known examples of UMD spaces are of this intermediate form Y=[X,H]_t. In particular, we answer affirmatively a question of Rubio de Francia on the pointwise convergence of Fourier series of Schatten class valued functions.
We prove a version of Carleson's Theorem in the Walsh model for vector-valued functions: For $1<p< \infty$, and a UMD space $Y$, the Walsh-Fourier series of $f \in L ^{p}(0,1;Y)$ converges pointwise, provided that $Y$ is a complex interpolation space $Y=[X,H]_θ$ between another UMD space $X$ and a Hilbert space $H$, for some $θ\in(0,1)$. Apparently, all known examples of UMD spaces satisfy this condition.
The standard proof of the equivalence of Fourier type on R^d and on the torus T^d is usually stated in terms of an implicit constant, defined as the minimum of a sum of powers of sinc functions. In this note we compute this minimum explicitly.
In the main part of the paper, on the basis of contour integration of complex meromorphic functions whose singularities lie onto an integration contour, in the first step, a concept of improper integrals absolute existence of meromorphic functions, as more general one with respect to the concept of improper integrals convergence (existence), is introduced into analysis. In the second step, in the case when a modulus of complex parameter tends to infinity, an interval of improper integrals convergence of parametric meromorphic functions is defined. In accordance with this, it is shown that the …
Quaternion-valued signals along with quaternion Fourier transforms (QFT)provide an effective framework for vector-valued signal and image processing. However, the sampling theory of quaternion valued signals has not been well developed. In this paper, we present the generalized sampling expansions associated with QFT by using the generalized translation and convolution. We show that a σ-bandlimited quaternion valued signal in QFT sense can be reconstructed from the samples of output signals of M linear systems based on QFT. Quaternion linear canonical transform (QLCT) is a generalization of QF…
Certain relations between the Fourier transform of a function of bounded variation and the Hilbert transform of its derivative are revealed. The widest subspaces of the space of functions of bounded variation are indicated in which the cosine and sine Fourier transforms are integrable.
The paper is devoted to the development of the octonion Fourier transform (OFT) theory initiated in 2011 in articles by Hahn and Snopek. It is also a continuation and generalization of earlier work by Blaszczyk and Snopek, where they proved few essential properties of the OFT of real-valued functions, e.g. symmetry properties. The results of this article focus on proving that the OFT is well-defined for octonion-valued functions and almost all well-known properties of classical (complex) Fourier transform (e.g. argument scaling, modulation and shift theorems) have their direct equivalents in o…
We prove that the spherical mean of the Fourier transform of the characteristic function of a bounded convex set (without any additional assumptions) or a bounded set with a C^{3/2} boundary decays at infinity at the same rate as the Fourier transform of the characteristic function of the ball.
In this paper we study the vector-valued analogues of several inequalities for the Fourier transform. In particular, we consider the inequalities of Hausdorff--Young, Hardy--Littlewood, Paley, Pitt, Bochkarev and Zygmund. The Pitt inequalities include the Hausdorff--Young and Hardy--Littlewood inequalities and state that the Fourier transform is bounded from $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{βp})$ into $L^q(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{-γq})$ under certain condition on $p,q,β$ and $γ$. Vector-valued analogues are derived under geometric conditions on the underlying Banach space such as Fourier type and rela…
In this paper, we will obtain the strong type and weak type estimates for vector-valued analogues of intrinsic square functions in the weighted Morrey spaces $L^{p,κ}(w)$ when $1\leq p<\infty$, $0<κ<1$, and in the generalized Morrey spaces $L^{p,Φ}$ for $1\le p<\infty$, where $Φ$ is a growth function on $(0,\infty)$ satisfying the doubling condition.
The adjoint Fourier restriction inequality for the sphere $S^2$ states that if $f\in\lt(S^2,σ)$ then $\widehat{fσ}\in L^4(\reals^3)$. We prove that all critical points $f$ of the functional $\norm{\widehat{fσ}}_{L^4}/\norm{f}_{\lt}$ are smooth; that any complex-valued extremizer for the inequality is a nonnegative extremizer multiplied by the character $e^{ix\cdotξ}$ for some $ξ$; and that complex-valued extremizing sequences for the inequality are precompact modulo multiplication by characters.
The purpose of this article is to extend the wavelet transform to quaternion algebra using the kernel of the two-sided quaternion Fourier transform (QFT). We study some fundamental properties of this extension such as scaling, translation, rotation, Parseval's identity, inversion theorem, and a reproducing kernel, then we derive the associated Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl uncertainty principle UP. Finally, using the quaternion Fourier representation of the CQWT we generalize the logarithmic UP and Hardy's UP to the CQWT domain.
We study multiplier theorems on a vector-valued function space, which is a generalization of the results of Calderón-Torchinsky and Grafakos-He-Honzík-Nguyen, and an improvement of the result of Triebel. For $0<p<\infty$ and $0<q\leq \infty$ we obtain that if $r>\frac{d}{s-(d/\min{(1,p,q)}-d)}$, then $$\big\Vert \big\{\big( m_k \hat{f_k}\big)^{\vee}\big\}_{k\in\mathbb{N}}\big\Vert_{L^p(l^q)}\lesssim_{p,q} \sup_{l\in\mathbb{N}}{\big\Vert m_l(2^l\cdot)\big\Vert_{L_s^r(\mathbb{R}^d)}} \big\Vert \big\{f_k\big\}_{k\in\mathbb{N}}\big\Vert_{L^p(l^q)}, ~~f_k\in\mathcal{E}(A2^k),$$ under the condition …
In this paper we prove a uniform Fourier restriction estimate over the class of simple curves where the last coordinate function can be extended to a holomorphic function of bounded frequency in a sufficiently large disc. The proof is based on a decomposition scheme for this class of functions.
We prove a variation norm Carleson theorem for Walsh-Fourier series of functions with values in a UMD Banach space. Our only hypothesis on the Banach space is that it has finite tile-type, a notion introduced by Hytönen and Lacey. Given q \geq 2 we show that, if the space X has tile-type t for all t>q, then the r-variation of the Walsh-Fourier sums of any function f \in L^p ([0,1) ; X) belongs to L^p, whenever q<r \leq \infty and (r/(q-1))' < p < \infty. We also show that if this conclusion is true for a variant of the variational Carleson operator then the space X necessarily has tile-type t …
The restricted maximal operators of partial sums with respect to bounded Vilenkin systems are investigated. We derive the maximal subspace of positive numbers, for which this operator is bounded from the Hardy space $%H_{p}$ to the Lebesgue space $L_{p}$ for all $0<p\leq 1.$ We also prove that the result is sharp in a particular sense.
Indicator functions mentioned in the title are constructed on an arbitrary nondiscrete locally compact Abelian group of finite dimension. Moreover, they can be obtained by small perturbation from any indicator function fixed beforehand. In the case of a noncompact group, the term "Fourier sums" should be understood as "partial Fourier integrals". A certain weighted version of the result is also provided. This version leads to a new Men$'$shov-type correction theorem.
In this paper we prove $L^p$ estimates for Stein's square functions associated to Fourier-Bessel expansions. Furthermore we prove transference results for square functions from Fourier-Bessel series to Hankel transforms. Actually, these are transference results for vector-valued multipliers from discrete to continuous in the Bessel setting. As a consequence, we deduce the sharpness of the range of $p$ for the $L^p$-boundedness of Fourier-Bessel Stein's square functions from the corresponding property for Hankel-Stein square functions. Finally, we deduce $L^p$ estimates for Fourier-Bessel multi…
The quaternion Fourier transform (QFT), a generalization of the classical 2D Fourier transform, plays an increasingly active role in particular signal and colour image processing. There tends to be an inordinate degree of interest placed on the properties of QFT. The classical convolution theorem and multiplication formula are only suitable for 2D Fourier transform of complex-valued signal, and do not hold for QFT of quaternion-valued signal. The purpose of this paper is to overcome these problems and establish the Plancherel and inversion theorems of QFT in the square integrable signals space…
We consider the dyadic paraproducts $π_\f$ on $\T$ associated with an $\M$-valued function $\f.$ Here $\T$ is the unit circle and $\M$ is a tracial von Neumann algebra. We prove that their boundedness on $L^p(\T,L^p(\M))$ for some $1<p<\infty $ implies their boundedness on $L^p(\T,L^p(\M))$ for all $1<p<\infty$ provided $\f$ is in an operator-valued BMO space. We also consider a modified version of dyadic paraproducts and their boundedness on $L^p(\T,L^p(\M)).
In this paper we prove pointwise and distributional Fourier transform inversion theorems for functions on the real line that are locally of bounded variation, while in a neighbourhood of infinity are Lebesgue integrable or have polynomial growth. We also allow the Fourier transform to exist in the principal value sense. A function is called regulated if it has a left limit and a right limit at each point. The main inversion theorem is obtained by solving the differential equation $df(t)-iωf(t)=g(t)$ for a regulated function $f$, where $ω$ is a complex number with positive imaginary part. This …
For each irreducible module of the symmetric group on $N$ objects there is a set of parametrized nonsymmetric Jack polynomials in $N$ variables taking values in the module. These polynomials are simultaneous eigenfunctions of a commutative set of operators, self-adjoint with respect to certain Hermitian forms. These polynomials were studied by the author and J.-G. Luque using a Yang-Baxter graph technique. This paper constructs a matrix-valued measure on the $N$-torus for which the polynomials are mutually orthogonal. The construction uses Fourier analysis techniques. Recursion relations for t…
In this paper we extend dyadic shifts and the dyadic representation theorem to an operator-valued setting: We first define operator-valued dyadic shifts and prove that they are bounded. We then extend the dyadic representation theorem, which states that every scalar-valued Calderón-Zygmund operator can be represented as a series of dyadic shifts and paraproducts averaged over randomized dyadic systems, to operator-valued Calderón-Zygmund operators. As a corollary, we obtain another proof of the operator-valued, global T(1) theorem. We work in the setting of integral operators that have R-bound…
Among the class of functions on the circle with Fourier modes up to degree 120, constant functions are the unique real-valued maximizers for the endpoint Tomas-Stein inequality.
In this paper we establish commmutator estimates for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann Map associated to a divergence form elliptic operator in the upper half-space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_+:=\{(x,t)\in \mathbb{R}^n \times (0,\infty)\}$, with uniformly complex elliptic, $L^{\infty}$, $t$-independent coefficients. By a standard pull-back mechanism, these results extend corresponding results of Kenig, Lin and Shen for the Laplacian in a Lipschitz domain, which have application to the theory of homogenization.
We prove that constant functions are the unique real-valued maximizers for all $L^2-L^{2n}$ adjoint Fourier restriction inequalities on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{d-1}\subset\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\in\{3,4,5,6,7\}$, where $n\geq 3$ is an integer. The proof uses tools from probability theory, Lie theory, functional analysis, and the theory of special functions. It also relies on general solutions of the underlying Euler-Lagrange equation being smooth, a fact of independent interest which we establish in a companion paper. We further show that complex-valued maximizers coincide with nonnegative maxi…
