In this article we explore compactifications of cluster varieties of finite type in complex dimension two. Cluster varieties can be viewed as the spec of a ring generated by theta functions and a compactification of such varieties can be given by a grading on that ring, which can be described by positive polytopes [17]. In the examples we exploit, the cluster variety can be interpreted as the complement of certain divisors in del Pezzo surfaces. In the symplectic viewpoint, they can be described via almost toric fibrations over $\R^2$ (after completion). Once identifying them as almost toric manifolds, one can symplectically view them inside other del Pezzo surfaces. So we can identify other symplectic compactifications of the same cluster variety, which we expect should also correspond to different algebraic compactifications. Both viewpoints are presented here and several compactifications have their corresponding polytopes compared. The finiteness of the cluster mutations are explored to provide cycles in the graph describing monotone Lagrangian tori in del Pezzo surfaces connected via almost toric mutation [34].
Inspired by the log Gromov-Witten (or GW) theory of Gross-Siebert/Abramovich-Chen, we introduce a geometric notion of log J-holomorphic curve relative to a simple normal crossings symplectic divisor defined in [FMZ1]. Every such moduli space is characterized by a second homology class, genus, and contact data. For certain almost complex structures, we show that the moduli space of stable log J-holomorphic curves of any fixed type is compact and metrizable with respect to an enhancement of the Gromov topology. In the case of smooth symplectic divisors, our compactification is often smaller than…
Transformation of algebraic Gromov-Witten invariants of three-folds under flops and small extremal transitions, with an appendix from the stringy and the symplectic viewpoint
This article studies the symplectic cohomology of affine algebraic surfaces that admit a compactification by a normal crossings anticanonical divisor. Using a toroidal structure near the compactification divisor, we describe the complex computing symplectic cohomology, and compute enough differentials to identify a basis for the degree-zero part of the symplectic cohomology. This basis is indexed by integral points in a certain integral affine manifold, providing a relationship to the theta functions of Gross--Hacking--Keel. Included is a discussion of wrapped Floer cohomology of Lagrangian su…
Our paper develops a theory of Poisson slices and a uniform approach to their partial compactifications. The theory in question is loosely comparable to that of symplectic cross-sections in real symplectic geometry.
We define a class of transversal slices in spaces which are quasi-Poisson for the action of a complex semisimple group G. This is a multiplicative analogue of Whittaker reduction. One example is the multiplicative universal centralizer of G, which is equipped with the usual symplectic structure in this way. We construct a smooth relative compactification by taking the closure of each centralizer fiber in the wonderful compactification of G. By realizing this partial compactification as a transversal in a larger quasi-Poisson variety, we show that it is smooth and log-symplectic.
We construct a multiplicative spectral sequence converging to the symplectic cohomology ring of any affine variety $X$, with first page built out of topological invariants associated to strata of any fixed normal crossings compactification $(M,\mathbf{D})$ of $X$. We exhibit a broad class of pairs $(M,\mathbf{D})$ (characterized by the absence of relative holomorphic spheres or vanishing of certain relative GW invariants) for which the spectral sequence degenerates, and a broad subclass of pairs (similarly characterized) for which the ring structure on symplectic cohomology can also be describ…
We give a description of the Deligne-Mumford properad expressing it as the result of homotopically trivializing S1 families of annuli (with appropriate compatibility conditions) in the properad of smooth Riemann surfaces with parameterized boundaries. This gives an analog of the results of Drummond-Cole and Oancea--Vaintrob in the setting of properads. We also discuss a variation of this trivialization which gives rise to a new partial compactification of Riemann surfaces relevant to the study of operations on symplectic cohomology.
In the first part of the present series of papers, we studied the moduli spaces of holomorphic discs and strips into an open symplectic manifold, isomorphic to the complement of a smooth divisor in a closed symplectic manifold. In particular, we introduced a compactification of this moduli space, which is called the RGW compactification. The goal of this paper is to show that the RGW compactifications admit Kuranishi structures. This result provides the crucial ingredient for the main construction of this series of papers: Floer homology for monotone Lagrangians in a smooth divisor complement.
This work pursues a circle of Lie-theoretic ideas involving Hessenberg varieties, Poisson geometry, and wonderful compactifications. In more detail, one may associate a symplectic Hamiltonian $G$-variety $μ:G\times\mathcal{S}\longrightarrow\mathfrak{g}$ to each complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with adjoint group $G$ and fixed Kostant section $\mathcal{S}\subseteq\mathfrak{g}$. This variety is one of Bielawski's hyperkähler slices, and it is central to Moore and Tachikawa's work on topological quantum field theories. It also bears a close relation to two log symplectic Hamiltonian …
A geometric flow on $6$-dimensional symplectic manifolds is introduced which is motivated by supersymmetric compactifications of the Type IIA string. The underlying structure turns out to be SU(3) holonomy, but with respect to the projected Levi-Civita connection of an almost-Hermitian structure. The short-time existence is established, and new identities for the Nijenhuis tensor are found which are crucial for Shi-type estimates. The integrable case can be completely solved, giving an alternative proof of Yau's theorem on Ricci-flat Kähler metrics. In the non-integrable case, models are worke…
