We present a proof that the operator norm of the commutator of certain spectral projections associated with spin operators converges to $\frac 1 2$ in the semiclassical limit. The ranges of the projections are spanned by all eigenvectors corresponding to positive eigenvalues. The proof involves the theory of Hankel operators on the Hardy space. A discussion of several analogous results is also included, with an emphasis on the case of finite Heisenberg groups.

We investigate spectral theory for a large class of one-body Stark Hamiltonians using a commutator technique. Our results include Rellich's theorem, the limiting absorption principle, radiation condition bounds and Sommerfeld's uniqueness theorem, all stated and proved in the framework of Besov spaces.
In this paper it is proved that for families of stochastic operators on a countable tensor product, depending smoothly on parameters, any spectral projection persists smoothly, where smoothness is defined using norms based on ideas of Dobrushin. A rigorous perturbation theory for families of stochastic operators with spectral gap is thereby created. It is illustrated by deriving an effective slow 2-state dynamics for a 3-state probabilistic cellular automaton. Some further potential applications are discussed.
In the abstract framework of Mourre theory, the propagation of states is understood in terms of a conjugate operator $A$. A powerful estimate has long been known for Hamiltonians having a good regularity with respect to $A$ thanks to the limiting absorption principle (LAP). We study the case where $H$ has less regularity with respect to $A$, specifically in a situation where the LAP and the absence of singularly continuous spectrum have not yet been established. We show that in this case the spectral measure of $H$ is a Rajchman measure and we derive some propagation estimates. One estimate is…
An odd Fredholm module for a given invertible operator on a Hilbert space is specified by an unbounded so-called Dirac operator with compact resolvent and bounded commutator with the given invertible. Associated to this is an index pairing in terms of a Fredholm operator with Noether index. Here it is shown by a spectral flow argument how this index can be calculated as the signature of a finite dimensional matrix called the spectral localizer.
We consider Fredholm determinants of the form identity minus product of spectral projections corresponding to isolated parts of the spectrum of a pair of self-adjoint operators. We show an identity relating such determinants to an integral over the spectral shift function in the case of a rank-one perturbation. More precisely, we prove $$ -\ln \left(\det \big(\mathbf{1} -\mathbf{1} _{I}(A) \mathbf{1}_{\mathbb R\backslash I}(B)\mathbf{1}_{I}(A)\big) \right) = \int_I \text{d} x \int_{\mathbb R\backslash I} \text{d} y\, \frac{ξ(x)ξ(y)}{(y-x)^2}, $$ where $\mathbf{1}_J (\cdot)$ denotes the spectra…
We compute the resolvent of the anti-commutator operator $XP+PX$ and of the quantum harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian operator $\frac{1}{2}(X^2+P^2)$. Using Stone's formula for finding the spectral resolution of an, either bounded or unbounded, self-adjoint operator on a Hilbert space, we also compute their Vacuum Characteristic Function (Quantum Fourier Transform). We also show how Stone's formula is applied to the computation of the Vacuum Characteristic Function of finite dimensional quantum observables. The method is proposed as an analytical alternative to the algebraic (or Heisenberg) appr…
Let $H_0$ be a purely absolutely continuous selfadjoint operator acting on some separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and $V$ be a compact non-selfadjoint perturbation. We relate the regularity properties of $V$ to various spectral properties of the perturbed operator $H_0+V$. The structure of the discrete spectrum and the embedded eigenvalues are analysed jointly with the existence of limiting absorption principles in a unified framework. Our results are based on a suitable combination of complex scaling techniques, resonance theory and positive commutators methods. Various results sca…
