We consider strategies for using new datasets to probe scenarios in which light right-handed SM fermions couple to a new gauge group, $U(1)_{T3R}$. This scenario provides a natural explanation for the light flavor sector scale, and a motivation for sub-GeV dark matter. There is parameter space which is currently allowed, but we find that much of it can be probed with future experiments. In particular, cosmological and astrophysical observations, neutrino experiments and experiments which search for displaced visible decay or invisible decay can all play a role. Still, there is a small region of parameter space which even these upcoming experiments will not be able to probe. This model can explain the observed 2.4-3$σ$ excess of events at the COHERENT experiment in the parameter space allowed by current laboratory experiments, but the ongoing/upcoming laboratory experiments will decisively probe this possibility.
We consider associated production of dark matter with single top quark, in a simplified dark matter model with spin-0 mediators. The produced top quark is polarized and the polarization depends on the CP of the mediator. We calculate both the cross-section and top polarization for these processes. We compute angular asymmetries which demonstrate the difference between the polarization expected for the scalar or pseudoscalar mediator. Both the cross section and top polarization are sensitive to the CP property of the mediator, depending on the mediator mass. We find that these polarization asym…
We propose a new possibility of using the coherently enhanced neutrino pair emission to probe light-mediator interactions between electron and neutrinos. With typical momentum transfer at the atomic $\mathcal O(1$\,eV) scale, this process is extremely sensitive for the mediator mass range $\mathcal O(10^{-3} \sim 10^4$) eV. The sensitivity on the product of couplings with electron ($g^e$ or $y^e$) and neutrinos ($g^ν$ or $y^ν$) can touch down to $|y^e y^ν| < 10^{-9} \sim 10^{-19}$ for a scalar mediator and $|g^e g^ν| < 10^{-15} \sim 10^{-26}$ for a vector one, with orders of improvement from t…
Light neutral mediators, with mass $\lesssim 1$ GeV, are common features of extensions to the Standard Model (SM). Current astrophysical and terrestrial experiments have constrained the model parameter space, and planned experiments around the world promise continued improvement in sensitivity. In this paper we study the prospects for probing light neutral mediators using terrestrial stopped pion and reactor sources in combination with ultra-low threshold nuclear and electron recoil detectors. We show that the coherent neutrino-nucleus and neutrino-electron scattering channels provide compleme…
We systematically study light (< few GeV) Dark Matter (DM) models that thermalize with visible matter through the Higgs portal and identify the remaining gaps in the viable parameter space. Such models require a comparably light scalar mediator that mixes with the Higgs to avoid DM overproduction and can be classified according to whether this mediator decays (in)visibly. In a representative benchmark model with Dirac fermion DM, we find that, even with conservative assumptions about the DM-mediator coupling and mass ratio, the regime in which the mediator is heavier than the DM is fully ruled…
The connection between Standard Model (SM) particles and dark matter (DM) can be introduced via hidden spin-2 massive mediator. In the present paper we consider the simplified benchmark link between charged lepton sector of SM and DM particles which are considered to be a hidden Dirac fermions from the dark sector. The regarding couplings are established through the dimension-5 operators involving spin-2 mediator field and the energy-momentum tensors of both SM and DM sectors. We study in detail the implication of this scenario for the lepton fixed-target facilities, such as NA64$e$, LDMX, NA6…
We show that solar $γ$-ray observations can provide a complementary probe of Dark Matter in scenarios where the interactions with the Standard Model proceed via long-lived mediators. For illustration we consider a simplified model which provides solar $γ$-ray fluxes observable with the next generation $γ$-ray telescopes, while complying with the existing experimental constraints. Our results suggest that solar $γ$-ray fluxes can be orders of magnitude larger than the ones from the Galactic center, while being subject to low backgrounds.
We investigate the thermal cosmology and terrestrial and astrophysical phenomenology of a sub-GeV hadrophilic dark sector. The specific construction explored in this work features a Dirac fermion dark matter candidate interacting with a light scalar mediator that dominantly couples to the up-quark. The correct freeze-out relic abundance may be achieved via dark matter annihilation directly to hadrons or through secluded annihilation to scalar mediators. A rich and distinctive phenomenology is present in this scenario, with probes arising from precision meson decays, proton beam dump experiment…
The hypothesis of dark matter interacting with the standard model uniquely via the Higgs portal is severely challenged by experiments. However, if dark matter is a fermion, the Higgs-portal interaction implies the presence of mediators, which can change the phenomenology significantly. This article discusses the impact of weakly-interacting mediators on the dark-matter relic abundance, direct detection, and collider searches. At the LHC, a typical signature of Higgs-portal fermion dark matter features soft leptons and missing energy, similarly to gaugino production in models with supersymmetry…
Future experiments dedicated to the detection of Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering may be powerful tools in probing light new physics. In this paper we study the sensitivity on light $Z'$ mediators of two proposed experiments: a directional low pressure Time Projection Chamber detector, $ν$BDX-DRIFT, that will utilize neutrinos produced at the Long Baseline Neutrino Facility, and several possible experiments to be installed at the European Spallation Source. We compare the results obtained with existing limits from fixed-target, accelerator, solar neutrino and reactor experiments. F…
The MUonE experiment, that aims to provide a precise measurement of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g-2$ via elastic muon-electron scattering, has also the potential to explore the parameter space of light new physics. Exploiting the process $μ^- N \to μ^- N X$, where $N$ is the target nucleus and X is a new physics light mediator, we demonstrate that MUonE can be sensitive to new regions of parameter space for sub-GeV dark photons. In particular, thanks to its muon beam, MUonE will be able to explore uncharted parameter space regions for the $L_μ-L_τ$ model. Finally…
We present the constraints on the parameters of several light boson mediator models obtained from the analysis of the current data of the COHERENT CE$ν$NS experiment. We consider a variety of vector boson mediator models: the so-called universal, the $B-L$ and other anomaly-free $U(1)'$ gauge models with direct couplings of the new vector boson with neutrinos and quarks, and the anomaly-free $L_e-L_μ$, $L_e-L_τ$, and $L_μ-L_τ$ gauge models where the coupling of the new vector boson with the quarks is generated by kinetic mixing with the photon at the one-loop level. We consider also a model wi…
An analysis is given of the Belle II sensitivities and NA64 constraints on the sub-GeV Dirac dark matter that interacts with charged leptons. We consider two different types of interactions between sub-GeV Dirac dark matter and the charged leptons: the EFT operators and the light vector mediators. We compute the Belle II mono-photon sensitivities on sub-GeV dark matter with 50 ab$^{-1}$ data which are expected to be accumulated in the full Belle II runs. Although the Belle II mono-photon sensitivities on the EFT operators are of similar size as the LEP constraints, Belle II can probe new param…
In this Letter we explore the potential of probing new light force-carriers, with spin-independent couplings to the electron and the neutron, using precision isotope shift spectroscopy. We develop a formalism to interpret linear King plots as bounds on new physics with minimal theory inputs. We focus only on bounding the new physics contributions that can be calculated independently of the Standard Model nuclear effects. We apply our method to existing Ca+ data and project its sensitivity to possibly existing new bosons using narrow transitions in other atoms and ions (specifically, Sr and Yb)…
The potential for probing extra neutral gauge boson mediators ($Z^\prime$) from low-energy measurements is comprehensively explored. Our study mainly focuses on $Z^\prime$ mediators present in string-inspired $E_6$ models and left-right symmetry. We estimate the sensitivities of coherent-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$ν$NS) and neutrino-electron scattering experiments. Our results indicate that such low-energy high-intensity measurements can provide a valuable probe, complementary to high-energy collider searches and electroweak precision measurements.
Flavor-specific scalar bosons exist in various Standard Model extensions and couple to a single generation of fermions via a global flavor symmetry breaking mechanism. Given this strategy, we propose a MeV flavor-specific scalar model in dimension-$5$ operator series, which explains the muon g-2 anomaly and proton radius puzzle by coupling with the muon and down-quark at the same time. The framework is consistent with the null result of high-intensity searches. Specifically, the supernova constraints for muon couplings become weakened by including the contribution of down-quark interaction. Th…
We investigate a dark sector containing a pair of light non-degenerate scalar particles, with masses in the MeV-GeV range, coupled to the visible sector through heavier mediators. The heaviest dark state is long-lived, and its decays offer new testable signals. We analyze the prospects for detection with the proposed beam-dump facility SHiP, and the proposed LHC experiments FASER and MATHUSLA. Moreover, we consider bounds from the beam-dump experiment CHARM and from colliders (LEP, LHC and BaBar). We present our results both in terms of an effective field theory, where the heavy mediators have…
In this paper we consider loop corrections to the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering cross section in bottom-quark flavored scalar-type dark matter models. We focus on two scenarios: (a) a complex scalar dark matter with a scalar particle as the mediator; and (b) a real scalar dark matter with a vector boson as the mediator. In both scenarios, the direct detection cross sections are either spin-dependent or kinematically forbidden at the tree-level. Corrections induced by the WIMP-gluon effective operator, scalar-type WIMP-quark effective operator, and the twist-2 effective operator are …
We study vector portal dark matter models where the mediator couples only to leptons. In spite of the lack of tree-level couplings to colored states, radiative effects generate interactions with quark fields that could give rise to a signal in current and future experiments. We identify such experimental signatures: scattering of nuclei in dark matter direct detection; resonant production of lepton-antilepton pairs at the Large Hadron Collider; and hadronic final states in dark matter indirect searches. Furthermore, radiative effects also generate an irreducible mass mixing between the vector …
The discrepancy between the measured value and the Standard Model prediction of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most important issues in the particle physics. It is known that introducing a mediator boson X with the $μτ$ lepton flavor violating (LFV) couplings is one good solution to explain the discrepancy, due to the $τ$ mass enhancement in the one-loop correction. In this paper, we study the signal of this model, i.e. the same-sign leptons, in the Belle II experiment, assuming the flavor-diagonal couplings are suppressed. We show that the Belle II experiment is highly sensi…

Monojet events at colliders have been used to probe models of dark matter and extra dimensions. We point out that these events also probe extensions of the Standard Model modifying neutrino-quark interactions. Such nonstandard interactions (NSI) have been discussed in connection with neutrino oscillation experiments. Assuming first that NSI remain contact at LHC energies, we derive stringent bounds that approach the levels suggested by the Boron-8 solar data. We next explore the possibility that the mediators of the NSI can be produced at colliders. The constraints are found to be strongest fo…
The Forward Physics Facility (FPF), planned to operate near the ATLAS interaction point at the LHC, offers exciting new terrain to explore neutrino properties at TeV energy scales. It will reach an unprecedented regime for terrestrial neutrino experiments and provide the opportunity to reveal new physics of neutrinos at higher energy scales. We demonstrate that future detectors at the FPF have the potential to discover new mediators that couple predominantly to neutrinos, with masses between 0.3 and 20 GeV and small couplings not yet probed by existing searches. Such a neutrinophilic mediator …
Probing hidden sectors with a muon beam: implication of spin-0 dark matter mediators for muon $(g-2)$ anomaly and validity of the Weiszäcker-Williams approach
The direct detection of sub-GeV dark matter particles is hampered by their low energy deposits. If the maximum deposit allowed by kinematics falls below the energy threshold of a direct detection experiment, it is unable to detect these light particles. Mechanisms that boost particles from the galactic halo can therefore extend the sensitivity of terrestrial direct dark matter searches to lower masses. Sub-GeV and sub-MeV dark matter particles can be efficiently accelerated by colliding with thermal nuclei and electrons of the solar plasma respectively. This process is called 'solar reflection…
Dark matter interacting via the exchange of a light pseudoscalar can induce observable signals in indirect detection experiments and experience large self-interactions while evading the strong bounds from direct dark matter searches. The pseudoscalar mediator will however induce flavour-changing interactions in the Standard Model, providing a promising alternative way to test these models. We investigate in detail the constraints arising from rare meson decays and fixed target experiments for different coupling structures between the pseudoscalar and Standard Model fermions. The resulting boun…

We comprehensively study experimental constraints and prospects for a class of minimal hidden sector dark matter (DM) models, highlighting how the cosmological history of these models informs the experimental signals. We study simple "secluded" models, where the DM freezes out into unstable dark mediator states, and consider the minimal cosmic history of this dark sector, where coupling of the dark mediator to the SM was sufficient to keep the two sectors in thermal equilibrium at early times. In the well-motivated case where the dark mediators couple to the Standard Model (SM) via renormaliza…
In this talk I will illustrate with two examples (Higgsino dark matter and Exotic Higgs decays) how electron-proton colliders present unique opportunities to probe BSM scenarios where proton-proton colliders fall short due to the experimental difficulties in reconstructing the signal due to the large hadronic backgrounds. The leit-motiv of these examples are long-lived particles (LLPs), which have received recently a lot of attention from both the experimental and theoretical communities. We find that the proposed $e^-p$ colliders can be competitive against their more energetic $pp$ incarnatio…

We consider a Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model scenario in which the only light superparticles are a bino-like dark matter candidate and a nearly-degenerate slepton. It is notoriously difficult to probe this scenario at the Large Hadron Collider, because the slepton pair-production process yields a final state with soft leptons and small missing transverse energy. We study this scenario in the region of parameter space where the mass difference between the lightest neutralino and the lightest slepton ($Δm$) is $\lesssim 60~{\rm GeV}$, focusing on the process in which an additional radiate…
With updated experimental data and improved theoretical calculations, several significant deviations are being observed between the Standard Model predictions and the experimental measurements of the branching ratios of $\bar{B}_{(s)}^0\to D_{(s)}^{(*)+} L^-$ decays, where $L$ is a light meson from the set $\{π,ρ,K^{(\ast)}\}$. Especially for the two channels $\bar{B}^0\to D^{+}K^-$ and $\bar{B}_{s}^0\to D_{s}^{+}π^-$, both of which are free of the weak annihilation contribution, the deviations observed can even reach 4-5$σ$. Here we exploit possible new-physics effects in these class-I non-le…
Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) involving heavy ions and protons are the energy frontier for photon-mediated interactions. UPC photons can be used for many purposes, including probing low-$x$ gluons via photoproduction of dijets and vector mesons, probes of beyond-standard-model processes, such as those enabled by light-by-light scattering, and studies of two-photon production of the Higgs.
The minimal gauged $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model has long been known to be able to explain the tension between the theoretical and experimental values of the muon magnetic moment. It has been explored and tested extensively, pushing the viable parameter space into a very tight corner. Further, embedding the $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model in a supersymmetric (SUSY) framework has been shown to relax some of these constraints and has recently been shown to explain the electron anomalous magnetic moment as well. In this model, the logarithm of the mass ratio of third to second generation (s)leptons control the n…
