A class of phenomenological relativistic models of hadronic systems motivated by QCD that have dual representations as models of mesons and nucleons or quarks and gluons is investigated. These models are designed to provided qualitative insight into the role of sea quarks in hadronic structure and reactions. The model assumption is that the Hamiltonian can be divided into two parts; one that involves degrees of freedom in the same connected local and global color singlet and the remaining interactions that allow the connected local and global color singlets to interact. The first class of interactions results in infinite towers of bare "particles" with hadronic quantum numbers. All but a finite number of these remain stable when the second class of interactions is included. The model interactions are expressed in terms of sub-hadronic degrees of freedom, which determine the bare hadronic spectrum and the interactions involving the bare hadrons in terms of a small number of sub-hadronic model parameters. As a first test, this paper considers the simplest case of mesons that interact via a string-breaking interaction. One virtue of this model is that all of the bare meson masses and eigenfunctions can be computed analytically. In addition, the string breaking interaction leads to production vertices that can also be computed analytically. The relativistic wave functions have a light-front kinematic symmetry. The goal is to find a simple relativistic quantum mechanical model based on sub-hadronic degrees of freedom that can provide an efficient, qualitatively consistent description of hadronic masses, lifetimes, cross sections, sea quark effects, and electromagnetic properties. The simplicity of the model makes it a potentially useful tool to study the impact of sea quarks on hadronic structure and reactions.
We discuss some recent developments in the description of baryons as three-quark systems within relativistic constituent quark models. In particular we address the issues of excitation spectra, electroweak structure, and mesonic resonance decays. The necessities of implementing simultaneously the symmetries of low-energy quantum chromodynamics and of relativistic invariance are emphasized.
The relativistic interacting quark-diquark model, constructed in the framework of point form dynamics, is extended to strange baryons. The strange and nonstrange baryon spectra are calculated and compared with the experimental data.
The relativistic five-quark equations are found in the framework of the dispersion relation technique. The solutions of these equations using the method based on the extraction of the leading singularities of the amplitudes are obtained. The five-quark amplitudes for the low-lying pentaquarks including the u, d, s- quarks are calculated. The poles of these amplitudes determine the masses of Theta-pentaquarks. The mass spectra of the isotensor Theta-pentaquarks are calculated.
We investigate relativistic corrections of order $1/m^{2}$, where $m$ is the constituent quark mass, to heavy baryon decays by emitting one pseudoscalar meson in the quark model. This work is motivated by shortcomings in the previous studies in the nonrelativistic quark model for decays of the Roper-like states such as $Λ_c(2765)$. We find that the relativistic corrections due to the internal motion of quarks are essential ingredients in improving their decay properties such that the decay widths are significantly increased. In addition, such corrections can explain a phenomenological suppress…
We study the rotational collective motion of the quark-gluon plasma in relativistic heavy ion collisions using the widely-adopted AMPT (A Multi-Phase Transport) model. The global angular momentum, the average vorticity carried by the quark-gluon plasma, and the locally defined vorticity fields are computed for Au+Au collisions, with detailed information of their time evolution, spatial distribution, as well as the dependence on beam energy and collision centrality.
The diffusion coefficients of heavy quarks from the coherent color electromagnetic fields which are generated in the early stage of relativistic heavy-ion collisions are calculated at midrapidity, and compared with those obtained from collisions within a thermalized quark-gluon plasma. The coherent color fields are modeled such that they are initially longitudinal and then become isotropic. We found that the diffusion coefficients from the coherent color fields are larger than those from collisions except for very fast heavy quarks, and the color fields are less effective for heavy-quark energ…
The amplitudes of the transition gamma* N -> P11(1440) are calculated within light-front relativistic quark model assuming that the P11(1440) is the first radial excitation of the 3q ground state. The results are presented along with the predictions obtained in other relativistic quark models. In comparison with the previous calculations, we have extended the range of Q^2 up to 4.5 GeV^2 to cover the kinematic interval of the forthcoming experimental data. Using approach based on PCAC, we have checked the relative sign between quark model predictions for the N and P11(1440) contributions to th…
We investigate the energy losses of $b$ and $c$ quarks at hard collisions with gluons and light quarks in quark-gluon plasma produced in central $Au + Au$ collisions at RHIC energy($\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV). As the coupling constant at hard collision in the perturbative QCD is limited by Landau pole at momenta $Q^{2} = Λ^{2}$, we use the analytic models of QCD, where the Landau pole is absent. We calculate the energy losses of $b$ and $c$ quarks in analytic model of QCD at $Q^{2} \ge Λ^{2}$. At calculations we use the effective quasiparticle model. We use at calculations of total nuclear modi…
Low-lying hypernuclei $ ^3_ΛH$, $ ^3_ΣH$, $ ^3_ΛHe$, $ ^3_ΣHe$ are described by the relativistic nine-quark equations in the framework of the dispersion relation technique. The approximate solutions of these equations using the method based on the extraction of leading singularities of the amplitudes are obtained. The relativistic nine-quark amplitudes of hypernuclei, including the quarks of three flavors ($u$, $d$, $s$) are calculated. The poles of these amplitudes determine the masses of hypernuclei. The mass of state $ ^3_ΛH$ with the isospin I=0 and the spin-parity $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^+$ is e…
We generalized our approach to the hypernuclei with $A=B=3$ containing one charm or one bottom quark. We derive the relativistic nine-quark equations using the dispersion relation technique. The hypernuclei as the system of interacting quarks and gluons are considered. The relativistic nine-quark amplitudes of hypernuclei, including the constituent quarks with the charm or bottom are calculated. The approximate solutions of these equations are obtained using a method based on the extraction of leading singularities of the amplitudes. The poles of the multiquark amplitudes allow us to determine…
We investigate the nucleon to Delta(1232) vector and axial vector amplitudes in the non-relativistic quark model of the Isgur-Karl variety. A particular interest is to investigate the SU(6) symmetry breaking, due to color hyperfine interaction. We compare the theoretical estimates to recent experimental investigation of the Adler amplitudes by neutrino scattering.
We briefly describe our relativistic quark-diquark model, developed within the framework of point form dynamics, which is the relativistic extension of the interacting quark-diquark model. In order to do that we have to show the main properties and quantum numbers of the effective degree of freedom of constituent diquark. Our results for the nonstrange baryon spectrum and for the nucleon electromagnetic form factors are discussed.
Hypernuclei $ ^4_Y He$, $ ^4_Y H$, $ ^4_{YY} He$, $ ^4_{YY} H$, where $Y=Λ$, $Σ_0$, $Σ_+$, $Σ_-$, A=4 are considered using the relativistic twelve-quark equations in the framework of the dispersion relation technique. Hypernuclei as the systems of interacting quarks and gluons are considered. The relativistic twelve-quark amplitudes of hypernuclei, including $u$, $d$, $s$ quarks are constructed. The approximate solutions of these equations are obtained using a method based on the extraction of leading singularities of the amplitudes. The poles of the multiquark amplitudes allow us to determine…
Many of the hadron-hadron cross sections required for the study of the dynamics of matter produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions can be calculated using the quark-interchange model. Here we evaluate the low-energy dissociation cross sections of $J/ψ$, $ψ'$, $χ$, $Υ$, and $Υ'$ in collision with $π$, $ρ$, and $K$, which are important for the interpretation of heavy-quarkonium suppression as a signature for the quark gluon plasma. These comover dissociation processes also contribute to heavy-quarkonium suppression, and must be understood and incorporated in simulations of heavy-ion collisi…
Baryons as relativistic bound states in 3-quark correlations are described by an effective Bethe-Salpeter equation when irreducible 3-quark interactions are neglected and separable 2-quark correlations are assumed. We present an efficient numerical method to calculate the nucleon mass and its covariant wave function in this quantum field theoretic quark-diquark model with quark-exchange interaction. Expanding the components of the spinorial wave function in terms of Chebyshev polynomials, the four-dimensional integral equations are in a first step reduced to a coupled set of one-dimensional on…
We investigate the relativistic equation of state of hadronic matter and quark-gluon plasma at finite temperature and baryon density in the framework of the non-extensive statistical mechanics, characterized by power-law quantum distributions. We impose the Gibbs conditions on the global conservation of baryon number, electric charge and strangeness number. For the hadronic phase, we study an extended relativistic mean-field theoretical model with the inclusion of strange particles (hyperons and mesons). For the quark sector, we employ an extended MIT-Bag model. In this context we focus on the…
We utilize a light-front relativistic quark model (LF RQM) to predict the 3q core contribution to the electroexcitation amplitudes for the Delta(1232)P33, N(1440)P11, N(1520)D13, and N(1535)S11 up to Q2= 12GeV2. The parameters of the model have been specified via description of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors in the approach that combines 3q and pion-cloud contributions in the LF dynamics.
In this article we report on our results about quark production and chemical equilibration of quark-gluon plasma. Our initial condition corresponds to a classic Yang-Mills spectrum, in which only gluon degrees of freedom are considered; the initial condition is then evolved to a quark-gluon plasma by means of relativistic transport theory with inelastic processes which permit the conversion of gluons to $q\bar{q}$ pairs. We then compare our results to the ones obtained with a standard Glauber model initialization. We find that regardless of the initial condition the final stage of the system c…
In the diquark-quark model of the nucleon including scalar and axialvector diquarks we compare solutions of the ladder Bethe-Salpeter equation in the instantaneous Salpeter approximation and in the fully covariant (i.e. four-dimensional) treatment. We obtain that the binding energy is severly underestimated in the Salpeter approximation. For the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon we find that in both approaches the overall shapes of the respective form factors are reasonably similar up to $Q^2 \approx 0.4$ GeV^2. However, the magnetic moments differ substantially as well as results fo…
Magnetic moments of baryons in the ground-state octet and decuplet are calculated in a light-front framework. We investigate the effects of quark mass variation both in the current operator and in the wavefunctions. A simple fit uses single oscillator wavefunctions for the baryons and allows the three flavors of quark to have nonzero anomalous magnetic moments. We find a good fit to the data without allowing for strange quark contributions to the nucleon moments. A slightly better fit is obtained by allowing for explicit SU(3)_f breaking in the wavefunctions through a simple mechanism. The pre…
The Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum rule for the nucleon is investigated within a relativistic constituent quark model formulated on the light-front. The contribution of the N - Delta(1232) transition is explicitly evaluated using different forms for the baryon wave functions and adopting a one-body relativistic current for the constituent quarks. It is shown that the N - Delta(1232) contribution to the sum rule is sharply sensitive to the introduction of anomalous magnetic moments for the constituent quarks, at variance with the findings of non-relativistic and relativized quark models. The experim…
In this thesis a model framework for describing baryons as diquark-quark bound states is presented which is formulated in an explicitly covariant manner. The relativistic bound state problem for three quarks is considered. Diquarks are introduced as separable correlations in the two-quark correlation function and thereby baryons are described by a Bethe-Salpeter equation for bound states of quark and diquark which interact by quark exchange. In analogy to the meson spectrum, scalar and axialvector diquarks are considered to be the most important two-quark configurations within baryons. The num…
The relativistic diffusion process of heavy quarks is formulated on the basis of the relativistic Langevin equation in Itô discretization scheme. The drag force inside the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is parametrized according to the formula for the strongly coupled plasma obtained by the AdS/CFT correspondence. The diffusion dynamics of charm and bottom quarks in QGP is described by combining the Langevin simulation under the background matter described by the relativistic hydrodynamics. Theoretical calculations of the nuclear modification factor R_{AA} and the elliptic flow v_{2} for the single …
The relativistic correction of the AdS/CFT implied heavy quark potential is examined within the framework of the potential model. For the typical range of the coupling strength appropriate to heavy-ion collisions, we find the correction is significant in size and lowers the dissociation temperature of quarkonia.
We derive covariant baryon wave functions for arbitrary Lorentz boosts. Modeling baryons as quark-diquark systems, we reduce their manifestly covariant Bethe-Salpeter equation to a covariant 3-dimensional form by projecting on the relative quark-diquark energy. Guided by a phenomenological multigluon exchange representation of a covariant confining kernel, we derive for practical applications explicit solutions for harmonic confinement and for the MIT Bag Model. We briefly comment on the interplay of boosts and center-of-mass corrections in relativistic quark models.
We follow Quark-gluon transport theory and analyse singularities of the ultra-relativistic and spherical expanding quark-gluon plasma. Within the linearized QCD oscillations and instabilities of the ultra-relativistic and spherical symmetric expanding quark-gluon plasma near global thermodynamical equilibrium are investigated in dependence on a chemical potential mu(T) of non-strange light quarks and antiquarks, a strange quark mass m_s, a temperature T and a hydrodynamical velocity $u$. We calculate the chromoelectric permeability tensor for the quark-gluon plasma at rest and ultra-relativist…
Starting from the standard and commonly used relativistic nucleon wave function, we show that residual interactions based on gluon or Goldstone boson exchanges generate additional components leading to configuration mixing. This result suggests that realistic nucleon wave functions can be expected to be far more complex than seemingly successful form factor fits in relativistic quark models would have one believe.
Treating the quark and diquark as elementary particles, the Bethe-Salpeter equation for the nucleon is solved numerically. The dependence of the mass on the diquark mass and on the coupling constants is investigated. The resulting relativistic quark-diquark-nucleon vertex is presented and discussed.
We calculate nuclear suppression $R_{AA}$ of heavy quarks produced from the initial fusion of partons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. We take the shadowing as well as the energy loss suffered by them while passing through Quark Gluon Plasma into account. We obtain results for charm and bottom quarks at several rapidities using different mechanisms for energy loss, to see if we can distinguish between them.
We present a brief survey of the development of nuclear physics towards relativistic quark physics. This is followed by a thorough discussion of the quest for the observation of the dissolution of nuclear matter into the deconfined quark matter (QGP) in relativistic nuclear collisions. Use of strange particle signatures in search for QGP is emphasized.
Experimental data indicate small spin-orbit splittings in hadrons. For heavy-light mesons we identify a relativistic symmetry that suppresses these splittings. We suggest an experimental test in electron-positron annihilation. Furthermore, we argue that the dynamics necessary for this symmetry are possible in QCD.
We explore the consequences of treating the X(3872) meson as a tetraquark bound state. As dynamical framework we employ a relativistic constituent quark model which includes infrared confinement in an effective way. We calculate the decay widths of the observed channels X-> Jpsi+2π(3π) and X-> \bar D0+D0+\pi0 via the intermediate off--shell states X-> Jpsi+ρ(ω) and X-> \bar D + D*. For reasonable values of the size parameter of the X(3872) we find consistency with the available experimental data. We also discuss the possible impact of the X(3872) in a s-channel dominance description of the Jps…
We compute the Omega- electromagnetic form factors and the decuplet baryon magnetic moments using a quark model application of the Covariant Spectator Theory. Our predictions for the Omega- electromagnetic form factors can be tested in the future by lattice QCD simulations at the physical strange quark mass.
Smooth transitions from hadronic matter to hot and dense matter of quantum chromodynamics accompany continuous transformations in effective degrees of freedom. The microscopic descriptions should include relativistic quarks interacting inside of hadrons. In this work we construct a schematic constituent quark model with relativistic kinematics which captures the global trends of meson spectra in the light, strange, and charm quark sectors. We examine the roles of the scalar- and vector-confining potentials as well as semishort range correlations in estimating the strength of central, spin-spin…
We examine the effect of adding pion exchange between quarks and pion self-energy corrections to the Los Alamos Relativistic Quark model with a short distance cutoff of the Bethe form. The contributions to the nucleon and the Delta-baryon are small. We conclude that the model is stable under this change in the sense that significant changes to the model parameters are not required.
Compactness is introduced as a new method to search for the onset of the quark matter transition in relativistic heavy ion collisions. That transition supposedly leads to stronger compression and higher compactness of the source in coordinate space. That effect could be observed via pion interferometry. We propose to measure the compactness of the source in the appropriate principal axis frame of the compactness tensor in coordinate space.
We study the effects of a barely perceivable violation of Lorentz invariance on results computed using a relativistic constituent quark model wave function. The model nucleon wave function of Gross {\it et al.} is constructed such thatthere is no orbital angular momentum and that the spin-dependent density is spherical. This model wave function is claimed to be manifestly covariant, but we show that this is not so. In particular, the seeming covariance of the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current arises from using the Breit frame. Matrix elements have a different appearance in any othe…
The quark-molecular-dynamics model is used to study microscopically the dynamics of the coloured quark phase and the subsequent hadron formation in relativistic S+Au collisions at the CERN-SPS. Particle spectra and hadron ratios are compared to both data and the results of hadronic transport calculations. The non-equilibrium dynamics of hadronization and the loss of correlation among quarks are studied.
We calculate the quarkonium formation time in relativistic heavy-ion collisions from the space-time correlator of heavy quark vector currents in a hydrodynamics background with the initial nonequilibrium stage expanding only in the longitudinal direction. Using in-medium quarkonia properties determined with the heavy quark potential taken to be the free energy from lattice calculations and the fact that quarkonia can only be formed below their dissociation temperatures due to color screening, we find that $Υ$(1S), $Υ$(2S), $Υ$(3S), $J/ψ$ and $ψ^\prime$ are formed, respectively, at 1.2, 6.6, 8.…
Light-front quantization to many-particle systems of finite temperature and density provides a novel approach towards a relativistic description of quark matter and allows us to calculate the perturbative as well as the non-perturbative regime of QCD. Utilizing a Dyson expansion of light-front many-body Green functions we have so far calculated three-quark, quark-quark, and quark-antiquark correlations that lead to the chiral phase transition, the formation of hadrons and color superconductivity in a hot and/or dense environment. Presently, we use an effective zero-range interaction, to compar…
The relativistically covariant constituent quark model developed by the Bonn group is used to compute the EM form factors of strange baryons. We present form-factor results for the ground-state and some excited hyperons. The computed magnetic moments agree well with the experimental values and the magnetic form factors follow a dipole $Q^2$ dependence.
The classical van Royen-Weisskopf formula for the decay width of a meson into a lepton-antilepton pair is modified in order to include non-zero quark momentum contributions within the meson as well as relativistic effects. Besides, a phenomenological electromagnetic density for quarks is introduced. The meson wave functions are obtained from two different models: a chiral constituent quark model and a quark potential model including instanton effects. The modified van Royen-Weisskopf formula is found to improve systematically the results for the widths, giving an overall good description of al…
Hadronic annihilation decay rates of P-wave heavy quarkonia are given to next-to-leading order in both $α_s$ and $v^2$. They include ten nonperturbative parameters, which can be rigorously defined as the matrix elements of color-singlet and color-octet operators in NRQCD. We expect these papameters will be determined from lattice calculations in future.
We investigate deep inelastic lepton scattering from the nucleon within a constituent quark picture, in which the internal structure of constituent quarks is modeled by meson and diquark dressing. In a covariant framework this structure leads to a breakdown of the factorization necessary for a convolution formulation. We perform our analysis in time-ordered perturbation theory in the infinite momentum frame where factorization of subprocesses is automatic. Numerical results are compared with recent data on valence quark distributions in the proton.
We have developed a numerical framework for a full solution of the relativistic Boltzmann equations for the quark-gluon matter using the multiple Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) on distributed clusters. Including all the $2 \to 2$ scattering processes of 3-flavor quarks and gluons, we compute the time evolution of distribution functions in both coordinate and momentum spaces for the cases of pure gluons, quarks and the mixture of quarks and gluons. By introducing a symmetrical sampling method on GPUs which ensures the particle number conservation, our framework is able to perform the space-ti…
We investigate the effect of different relativistic spin couplings of constituent quarks on nucleon electroweak properties. Within each quark spin coupling scheme the correlations between static electroweak observables are found to be independent of the particular shape of the momentum part of the nucleon light-front wave function. The neutron charge form factor is very sensitive to different choices of spin coupling schemes once the magnetic moment is fitted to the experimental value. However, it is found rather insensitive to the details of the momentum part of the three-quark wave function …
