Modeling blocking temperature in molecular magnets has been a long standing problem in the field of molecular magnetism. We investigate this problem using a kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) approach on an assembly of 100,000 short molecular magnetic chains (SMMCs), each of six identical spins with nearest neighbour anisotropic ferromagnetic exchange interactions. Each spin is also anisotropic with an uniaxial anisotropy. The site spin on these SMMCs take values $1$, $3/2$ or $2$. Using eigenstates of these SMMCs as the states of Markov chain, we carry out a kMC simulation starting with an initial state in which all SMMCs are completely spin polarized and assembled on a one-dimensional lattice so as to experience ferromagnetic spin-dipolar interaction with each other. From these simulations we obtain the relaxation time $τ_r$ as a function of temperature and the associated blocking temperature. We study this for different exchange anisotropy, on-site anisotropy and strength of dipolar interactions. The magnetization relaxation times show non-Arrhenius behaviour for weak on-site interactions. The energy barrier to magnetization relaxation increases with increase in on-site anisotropy, exchange anisotropy and strength of spin dipolar interactions; more strongly on the last parameter. In all cases the barrier saturates at large on-site anisotropy. The barrier also increases with site spin. The large barrier observed in rare-earth single ion magnets can be attributed to large dipolar interactions due to short intermolecular distances, owing to their small size and large spin of the rare earth ion in the molecule.
For the first time, we find that the dynamic antiferromagnetic phase present in CeFe2 gets stabilized with Ga and Si substitutions. We find that phenomena such as strain-induced first order jumps in the magnetization curves, asymmetry between the M-H curves during the increasing and decreasing field cycles, the envelope curve being inside the virgin curve, occur in these compounds. Temperature and time dependences of magnetization show that the compounds possess glassy behavior at low temperatures. Multi-step magnetization behavior, unusual relaxation effect, thermal and magnetic history depen…
Magnetization and its relaxation have been measured in $Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2$ single crystals at various doping levels ranging fromvery underdoped to very overdoped regimes. Sizable magnetization relaxation rate has been observed in all samples, indicating a moderate vortex motion and relatively small characteristic pinning energy. Detailed analysis leads to the following conclusions: (1) A prominent second-peak (SP) effect was observed in the samples around the optimal doping level (x $\approx$ 0.08), but it becomes invisible or very weak in the very underdoped and overdoped samples; (2) Th…
The rate and pathways of relaxation of a magnetic medium to its equilibrium following excitation with intense and short laser pulses are the key ingredients of ultrafast optical control of spins. Here we study experimentally the evolution of the magnetization and magnetic anisotropy of thin films of a ferromagnetic metal galfenol (Fe$_{0.81}$Ga$_{0.19}$) resulting from excitation with a femtosecond laser pulse. From the temporal evolution of the hysteresis loops we deduce that the magnetization $M_S$ and magnetic anisotropy parameters $K$ recover within a nanosecond, and the ratio between $K$ …
Frequency and dc magnetic field dependences of dynamic susceptibility in diluted paramagnets LiYF$_4$:Ho$^{3+}$ have been measured at liquid helium temperatures in the ac and dc magnetic fields parallel to the symmetry axis of a tetragonal crystal lattice. Experimental data are analyzed in the framework of microscopic theory of relaxation rates in the manifold of 24 electron-nuclear sublevels of the lowest non-Kramers doublet and the first excited singlet in the Ho$^{3+}$ ground multiplet $^5I_8$ split by the crystal field of S$_4$ symmetry. The one-phonon transition probabilities were compute…
In the exchange approximation, an exact solution is obtained for the sublattice magnetizations evolution in a two-sublattice ferrimagnet. Nonlinear regimes of spin dynamics are found that include both the longitudinal and precessional evolution of the sublattice magnetizations, with the account taken of the exchange relaxation. In particular, those regimes describe the spin switching observed in the GdFeCo alloy under the influence of a femtosecond laser pulse.
Fluctuation dynamics in magnetization plateaux are a relatively poorly explored area in frustrated magnetism. Here we use muon spin relaxation to determine the fluctuation timescale and associated field distribution width in the partial magnetization plateau of Ca3Co2O6. The muon spin relaxation rate has a simple and characteristic field dependence which we model and by fitting to the data at 15 K extract a fluctuation timescale tau = 880(30) ps and a field distribution width Delta = 40.6(3) mT. Comparison with previous results on Ca3Co2O6 suggests that this fluctuation timescale can be associ…
We numerically study the relaxation of correlation functions in weakly perturbed integrable XXZ chain. The decay of the spin-current and the energy-current correlations at zero magnetization are well described by single, but quite distinct, relaxation rates governed by the square of the perturbation strength $g$. However, at finite magnetization a single correlation function reveals multiple relaxation rates. The result can be understood in terms of multi-scale relaxation scenario, where various relaxation times are linked with various quantities which are conserved in the reference integrable…
Magnetic field and time induced steps have been observed in the recently discovered ternary silicide R6Co1.67Si3. Huge relaxation steps are observed across different loops in the low temperature magnetization isotherms. Giant relaxation present in this system indicates the existence of incubation time to get the saturated moment at a certain field. Measurement protocol sensitive magnetization behavior observed in this system may arise from the strong magnetostructural coupling and/or magnetic frustration. Electrical resistivity and magnetoresistance also reflect the magnetic state of the compo…
We report a detailed investigation of magnetic relaxation and memory effects in La$_{0.9}$Sr$_{0.1}$CoO$_3$ single crystal from dc magnetization measurements. The analysis of magnetic relaxation at different temperatures and magnetic fields below the freezing temperature ($T_{f}$) manifests the characteristics of spin glass phase. Below $T_{f}$, striking memory effects have been clearly observed in different experimental protocols. The memory effect in the zero-field-cooled magnetization further establishes that the glassy magnetic state arises from the co-operative spin-spin interaction but n…
Two dimensional nature of superconductivity in intercalated layered systems Li$_{x}$HfNCl and Li$_{x}$ZrNCl: muon spin relaxation and magnetization measurements
We study a quantum quench in which a magnetic impurity is suddenly coupled to Hubbard chains, whose low-energy physics is described by Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory. Using the time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group (tDMRG) technique, we analyze the propagation of charge, spin and entanglement in the chains after the quench and relate the light-cone velocities to the dispersion of holons and spinons. We find that the local magnetization at the impurity site decays faster if we increase the interaction in the chains, even though the spin velocity decreases. We derive an analytica…
Within the multielectron model of magnetic insulator with spin crossover under high pressure we have studied the mean field phase diagrams in pressure temperature plane and dynamics of a sudden excited non equilibrium spin state. We obtain the different relaxation of the magnetization, high spin/low spin occupation numbers, and the metal oxygen bond length for different values of the external pressure. We found the long living oscillations of magnetization without pressure and at small external pressure. Close to crossover pressure the smooth relaxation is accompanied with a set of sharp stron…
We investigate the dynamics of magnetization in the phase separated (PS) state after introducing the quenched disorder at the Mn-site of a manganite around half doping. The compound, Pr$_{0.5}$Sr$_{0.5}$Mn$_{0.925}$Ga$_{0.075}$O$_{3}$, exhibits PS with the coexistence of ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) clusters where the size of the FM clusters is substantially reduced due to the disorder introduced by nonmagnetic Ga substitution. At low temperature, the system develops a new magnetic anomaly, which is marked by a peak in the zero field cooled magnetization. Detailed study of li…
There is proposed a phenomenological theory of quasi-elastic neutron scattering in the itinerant ferromagnets UGe$_2$ and UCoGe based on their property that magnetization supported by the moments located at uranium atoms is not conserved quantity relaxing to equilibrium by the interaction with itinerant electrons subsystem. As result the line width of quasi elastic neutron scattering at $q\to 0$ acquires nonvanishing value at all temperatures but the Curie temperature.
The quantum spin ice model applied to Tb2Ti2O7 predicts that magnetic fields applied along the [111] axis will induce a partial magnetization plateau [H. R. Molavian and M. J. P. Gingras, J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 21, 172201 (2009)]. We test this hypothesis using ac magnetic susceptibility and muon-spin relaxation measurements, finding features at 15 and 65 mT agreeing with the predicted boundaries of the magnetization plateau. This suggests that Tb2Ti2O7 is well described by a quantum spin ice model with an effective exchange constant of Jeff = 0.17(1) K.
The nuclear magnetic relaxation time $T_1$ in ferrimagnetic insulators is calculated by a Raman process of hyperfine interaction with a meanfield approximation. It is found that the 1/$T_1$ on one site rapidly increases near the compensation temperature $T_0$, whereas that on another site does not increase up to Curie temperature $T_c$. This is due to that the band width of soft magnon becomes comparable to $T_0$. The increasing behavior of 1/$T_1$ below $T_c$ is found also in another type ferrimagnet, which shows hump structure in the temperature dependence of magnetization instead of compens…
Neutron diffraction, magnetization and muon spin relaxation measurements, supplemented by density functional theory (DFT) calculations are employed to unravel temperature-driven magnetization reversal (MR) in inverse spinel Co$_2$VO$_4$. All measurements show a second-order magnetic phase transition at $T_{\rm C} = 168$\,K to a collinear ferrimagnetic phase. The DFT results suggest the moments in the ferrimagnetic phase are delocalized and undergo gradual localization as the temperature is lowered below $T_{\rm C}$. The delocalized-localized crossover gives rise to a maximum magnetization at $…
Here, we report an exhaustive study of the frequency-dependent ac-magnetic susceptibility of the $D_{2d}$ symmetric Heusler system Mn-Pt(Pd)-Sn that hosts antiskyrmions over a wide temperature range. Magnetic relaxation studies using Cole-Cole formalism reveal a Debye-type relaxation with a nearly negligible distribution in relaxation times. In contrast to the archetypical skyrmion hosts, the high Curie temperature ($ T_C $) of the present system ensures shorter switching times, and, correspondingly, higher frequencies are required to probe the relaxation dynamics. We find a non-monotonic vari…
Large magnetic anisotropy and coercivity are key properties of functional magnetic materials and are generally associated with rare earth elements. Here we show an extreme, uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and the emergence of magnetic hysteresis in Li2(Li1-xFex)N. An extrapolated, magnetic anisotropy field of 220 Tesla and a coercivity field of over 11 Tesla at 2 Kelvin outperform all known hard-ferromagnets and single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Steps in the hysteresis loops and relaxation phenomena in striking similarity to SMMs are particularly pronounced for x << 1 and indicate the presence of n…
