For certain motivic spectra, we construct a square of spectral sequences relating the effective slice spectral sequence and the motivic Adams spectral sequence. We show the square can be constructed for connective algebraic K-theory, motivic Morava K-theory, and truncated motivic Brown-Peterson spectra. In these cases, we show that the $\mathbb{R}$-motivic effective slice spectral sequence is completely determined by the $ρ$-Bockstein spectral sequence. Using results of Heard, we also obtain applications to the Hill-Hopkins-Ravenel slice spectral sequences for connective Real K-theory, Real Morava K-theory, and truncated Real Brown-Peterson spectra.
We introduce a variant of the slice spectral sequence which uses only regular slice cells, and state the precise relationship between the two spectral sequences. We analyze how the slice filtration of an equivariant spectrum that is concentrated over a normal subgroup is related to the slice filtration of its geometric fixed points, and use this to prove a conjecture of Hill on the slice filtration of an Eilenberg MacLane spectrum. We also show how the (co)connectivity of a spectrum results in the (co)connectivity of its slice tower, demonstrating the "efficiency" of the slice spectral sequenc…
We describe the slice tower and slice spectral sequence for arbitrary suspensions of the Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum of an arbitrary Mackey functor for the cyclic group of prime order.
We prove a relative statement about the slices of the algebraic cobordism spectrum. If the map from MGL to a certain quotient of MGL introduced by Hopkins and Morel is the map to the zero-slice then a relative version of Voevodsky's conjecture on the slices of MGL holds true. We outline the picture for K-theory and rational slices.
In this paper, we introduce the localized slice spectral sequence, a variant of the equivariant slice spectral sequence that computes geometric fixed points equipped with residue group actions. We prove convergence and recovery theorems for the localized slice spectral sequence and use it to analyze the norms of the Real bordism spectrum. As a consequence, we relate the Real bordism spectrum and its norms to a form of the $C_2$-Segal conjecture. We compute the localized slice spectral sequence of the $C_4$-norm of $BP_\mathbb{R}$ in a range and show that the Hill--Hopkins--Ravenel slice differ…
We study the slice filtration and associated spectral sequence for a family of $RO(C_{p^{n}})$-graded suspensions of the Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum for the constant Mackey functor $\underline{\mathbb Z}$. Since $H\underline{\mathbb Z}$ is the zero slice of the sphere spectrum, this begins an analysis of how one can describe the slices of a suspension in terms of the original slices.
We completely compute the slice spectral sequence of the $C_4$-spectrum $BP^{((C_4))}\langle 2 \rangle$. After periodization and $K(4)$-localization, this spectrum is equivalent to a height-4 Lubin-Tate theory $E_4$ with $C_4$-action induced from the Goerss-Hopkins-Miller theorem. In particular, our computation shows that $E_4^{hC_{12}}$ is 384-periodic.
We describe the slice spectral sequence of a 32-periodic $C_{4}$-spectrum $K_{[2]}$ related to the $C_{4}$ norm ${N_{C_{2}}^{C_{4}}MU_{\bf R}}$ of the real cobordism spectrum $MU_{\bf R}$. We will give it as a spectral sequence of Mackey functors converging to the graded Mackey functor $\underline{π}_{*}K_{[2]}$, complete with differentials and exotic extensions in the Mackey functor structure. The slice spectral sequence for the 8-periodic real $K$-theory spectrum $K_{\bf R}$ was first analyzed by Dugger. The $C_{8}$ analog of $K_{[2]}$ is 256-periodic and detects the Kervaire invariant class…
In this paper we give an algebraic description of the category of $n$-slices for an arbitrary group $G$, in the sense of Hill-Hopkins-Ravenel. Specifically, given a finite group $G$ and an integer $n$, we construct an explicit $G$-spectrum $W$ (called an isotropic slice $n$-sphere) with the following properties: (i) the $n$-slice of a $G$-spectrum $X$ is equivalent to the data of a certain quotient of the Mackey functor $\underline{[W,X]}$ as a module over the endomorphism Green functor $\underline{[W,W]}$; (ii) the category of $n$-slices is equivalent to the full subcategory of right modules …
We show that the Conjecture of Voevodsky concerning slices of the algebraic cobordism spectrum MGL implies a general statement about the slices of motivic Landweber spectra. In particular it confirms the possible approach suggested by Voevodsky for the computation of the slices of the homotopy algebraic K-theory spectrum KGL via a Conner-Floyd isomorphism complementing Levine's unconditional proof of these slices over perfect fields. A similar result, and Voevodsky's conjecture over fields of char. 0, are also announced by Hopkins-Morel.
This paper gives an algebraic characterization of Alexander polynomials of equivariant ribbon knots and a factorization condition satisfied by Alexander polynomials of equivariant slice knots.
It is shown that the Grayson tower for $K$-theory of smooth algebraic varieties is isomorphic to the slice tower of $S^1$-spectra. We also extend the Grayson tower to bispectra and show that the Grayson motivic spectral sequence is isomorphic to the motivic spectral sequence produced by the Voevodsky slice tower for the motivic $K$-theory spectrum $KGL$. This solves Suslin's problem for these two spectral sequences in the affirmative.
Colored operads were introduced in the 1970's for the purpose of studying homotopy invariant algebraic structures on topological spaces. In this paper we introduce colored operads in motivic stable homotopy theory. Our main motivation is to uncover hitherto unknown highly structured properties of the slice filtration. The latter decomposes every motivic spectrum into its slices, which are motives, and one may ask to what extend the slice filtration preserves highly structured objects such as algebras and modules. We use colored operads to give a precise solution to this problem. Our approach m…
We show that the slice filtration introduced by Voevodsky is compatible in a suitable sense with the symmetric monoidal structure in the category of motivic symmetric T-spectra constructed by Jardine. It follows from this compatibility that the zero slice of the sphere spectrum s_{0}(1) is a ring spectrum and that for every symmetric T-spectrum X, and every integer n; the n-slice s_{n}(X) is a module over s_{0}(1). In particular, if the base scheme is a field of characteristic zero, we have that all the slices s_{n}(X) are big motives in the sense of Voevodsky. We also get as a corollary that …
We advance the understanding of K-theory of quadratic forms by computing the slices of the motivic spectra representing hermitian K-groups and Witt-groups. By an explicit computation of the slice spectral sequence for higher Witt-theory, we prove Milnor's conjecture relating Galois cohomology to quadratic forms via the filtration of the Witt ring by its fundamental ideal. In a related computation we express hermitian K-groups in terms of motivic cohomology.
Let $k$ be a field with a real embedding. We compare the motivic slice filtration of a motivic spectrum over $Spec(k)$ with the $C_2$-equivariant slice filtration of its equivariant Betti realization, giving conditions under which realization induces an equivalence between the associated slice towers. In particular, we show that, up to reindexing, the towers agree for all spectra obtained from localized quotients of $MGL$ and $MR$, and for motivic Landweber exact spectra and their realizations. As a consequence, we deduce that equivariant spectra obtained from localized quotients of $MR$ are e…
We prove a new convergence result for the slice spectral sequence, following work by Levine and Voevodsky. This verifies a derived variant of Voevodsky's conjecture on convergence of the slice spectral sequence. This is, in turn, a necessary ingredient for our main theorem: a Thomason-style étale descent result for the Bott-inverted motivic sphere spectrum, which generalizes and extends previous étale descent results for special examples of motivic cohomology theories. Combined with first author's étale rigidity results, we obtain a complete structural description of the étale motivic stable c…
In this paper, we study twisted algebraic $K$-theory from a motivic viewpoint. For a smooth variety $X$ over a field of characteristic zero and an Azumaya algebra $\mathcal{A}$ over $X$, we construct the $\mathcal{A}$-twisted motivic spectral sequence, by computing the slices of the motivic twisted algebraic $K$-theory spectrum as a twisted form of motivic cohomology. This generalizes previous results due to Kahn-Levine where $\mathcal{A}$ is assumed to be pulled back from a base field. Our methods use interaction between the slice filtration and birational geometry. Along the way, we prove a …
