Superconductivity induced by a magnetic field near metamagnetism is a striking manifestation of magnetically-mediated superconducting pairing. After being observed in itinerant ferromagnets, this phenomenon was recently reported in the orthorhombic paramagnet UTe$_2$. Under a magnetic field applied along the hard magnetization axis b, superconductivity is reinforced on approaching metamagnetism at $μ_0H_m$ = 35 T, but it abruptly disappears beyond $H_m$. On the contrary, field-induced superconductivity was reported beyond $μ_0H_m$ = 40-50 T in a magnetic field tilted by $\simeq25-30°$ from b in the (b,c) plane. Here we explore the phase diagram of UTe2 under these two magnetic-field directions. Zero-resistance measurements permit to confirm unambiguously that superconductivity is established beyond Hm in the tilted-field direction. While superconductivity is locked exactly at fields either smaller (for a H || b), or larger (for H tilted by $\simeq27°$ from b to c), than Hm, the variations of the Fermi-liquid coefficient in the electrical resistivity and of the residual resistivity are surprisingly similar for the two field directions. The resemblance of the normal states for the two field directions puts constraints for theoretical models of superconductivity and implies that some subtle ingredients must be in play.
We discuss the possibility that the strain field introduced by the structural supermodulation in Bi-2212 and certain other cuprate materials may modulate the superconducting pairing interaction. We calculate the amplitude of this effect, visible in scanning tunneling spectroscopy experiments, and thereby relate a change in the local superconducting gap with the change in the local dopant displacements induced by the supermodulation. In principle, since this modulation is periodic, sufficiently accurate x-ray measurements or ab initio calculations should enable one to determine which atomic dis…
Using the d-p model, we demonstrate that the pseudogap, which is induced by the superconducting fluctuation, plays key roles in the determination of the phase diagram observed in high-Tc superconducting materials. We take the pairing interaction mediated by the spin fluctuation and calculate the superconducting transition temperature Tc, the NMR relaxation rate 1/T1 and the single-particle spectrum by treating both the superconducting fluctuation and spin fluctuation in a consistent fashion. As temperature decreases, 1/T1T increases at high temperatures, and it reaches a maximum followed by a …
We revealed that the superconducting transition temperature Tc of the multi-component superconductor Sr2RuO4 is enhanced to 3.3 K under in-plane uniaxial pressure that reduces the tetragonal crystal symmetry. This result suggests that new superconducting phases with a one-component order parameter are induced. We have also clarified the inplane pressure direction dependence of the emergence of this higher-Tc superconducting phase: pressure along the [100] direction is more favorable than pressure along the [110] direction. This result is probably closely related to the direct shortening of the…
We reveal a novel macroscopic quantum phenomenon induced by a magnetic field. It corresponds to the {\it non-integer quantization of the superfluid density} in a superconductor with gap nodes due to the generation of confined field-induced density waves (CFIDW) over a portion of the Fermi surface (FS). The Landau numbers $L$ are not sufficient to index these macroscopic quantum states and new quanrum numbers $ζ$ must be added. Distinct qualitative implications of this $|L,ζ>$ quantization are evident in a number of puzzling experiments in high-$T_c$ cuprates including the plateaus behavior in …
The electronic structure of cuprate superconductors is studied within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism in the presence of the out-of-plane impurities. With increasing the impurity concentration, although both superconducting coherence peaks around nodal and antinodal regions are suppressed, the position of the leading-edge mid-point of the electron spectrum around the nodal region remains at the same position, while it is shifted towards higher binding energies around the antinodal region, this leads to a strong deviation from the monotonic d-wave superconducting gap in the …
We measure the magnetic susceptibility nearby Li spinless impurities in the superconducting phase of the high Tc cuprate YBaCuO. The induced moment which was found to exist above Tc persists below Tc. In the underdoped regime, it retains its Curie law below Tc. In contrast, near optimal doping, the large Kondo screening observed above Tc (T_K=135 K) is strongly reduced below Tc as expected theoretically when the superconducting gap develops. This moment still extends essentially on its 4 near neighbour Cu, showing the persistence of AF correlations in the superconducting state. A direct compar…
We have performed an ultrahigh-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of slightly-overdoped (Bi,Pb)2Sr2CuO6 to elucidate the origin of pseudogap. By using a newly developed xenon-plasma light source, we determined the comprehensive momentum and temperature dependences of the superconducting gap and the pseudogap. We found that the antinodal pseudogap persists far above the superconducting transition temperature and is smoothly connected to the nodal gap. The characteristic temperature of the pseudogap scales well with the superconducting-gap size irrespective of the momentu…
LaBaCaCu3O7 (La:1113) and NdBaCaCu3O7 (Nd:1113) compounds are synthesized by solid state reaction route. Both compounds crystallize in tetragonal structure. Four probe resistivity measurements showed that superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is 73 K and 41 K respectively for La:1113 and Nd:1113 compounds. Considering the fact that for RE:123 (REBa2Cu3O7) compounds the Tc hardly depends upon the choice of RE (Rare earth, except Ce, Pr and Tb), the current nearly two fold increase in Tc of La:1113 when compared to Nd:1113, warrants serious discussion.
Recent observation of pressure induced second superconducting phase in AyFe2-xSe2 [A=K, (Tl,Rb)] calls for the models of superconductivity that are rich enough to allow for multiple superconducting phases. We propose the model where pressure induced changes in Fermi surface topology lead to appearance of the hole pocket at $Γ$ point at high pressure. We develop low-energy effective model, derived from first-principles band-structure calculation, to suggest the phase assignment where low pressure superconducting state with no hole pocket at $Γ$ point is a nodeless d-wave state. It evolves into …
We report a novel pressure-induced spin-density-wave transition in the superconductor Mo3Sb7 figured our by measurements of the electrical resistivity and magnetization under hydrostatic pressure. The critical temperature of superconducting Mo3Sb7 is found to increase with increasing pressure, from 2.15 K at 0.2 kbar up to 2.37 K at 22 kbar. Above 4.5 kbar, superconductivity exists in parallel with a pressure-induced spin-density wave state, revealed by a sharp jump in the electrical resistivity and a maximum in the magnetization at the phase transition temperature T_SDW. The application of pr…
The antiferromagnet CaFe$_2$As$_2$ does not become superconducting when subject to ideal hydrostatic pressure conditions, where crystallographic and magnetic states also are well defined. By measuring electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility under quasi-hydrostatic pressure, however, we find that a substantial volume fraction of the sample is superconducting in a narrow pressure range where collapsed tetragonal and orthorhombic structures coexist. At higher pressures, the collapsed tetragonal structure is stabilized, with the boundary between this structure and the phase of coexistin…
Photo-excitation is a very powerful way to instantaneously drive a material into a novel quantum state without any fabrication, and variable ultrafast techniques have been developed to observe how electron-, lattice-, and spin-degrees of freedom change. One of the most spectacular phenomena is photo-induced superconductivity, and it has been suggested in cuprates that the transition temperature Tc can be enhanced from original Tc with significant lattice modulations. Here we show another photo-induced high-Tc superconducting state in the iron-based superconductor FeSe with semi-metallic hole a…
Single crystals of SrFe2As2 grown using a self-flux solution method were characterized via x-ray, transport and magnetization studies, revealing a superconducting phase below T_c = 21 K characterized by a full electrical resistivity transition and partial diamagnetic screening. The reversible destruction and reinstatement of this phase by heat treatment and mechanical deformation studies, along with single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements, indicate that internal crystallographic strain originating from c-axis-oriented planar defects plays a central role in promoting the appearance of sup…
In the heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 (Tc=2.3K) the critical field is large, anisotropic and displays hysteresis. The magnitude of the critical-field anisotropy in the a-c plane can be as large as 70 kOe and depends on orientation. Critical field measurements in the (110) plane suggest 2D superconductivity, whereas conventional effective mass anisotropy is observed in the (100) plane. Two distinct field-induced magnetic phases are observed: Ha appears deep in the superconducting phase, while Hb intersects Hc2 at T=1.4 K and extends well above Tc. These observations suggest the possible r…
Low-temperature (T) heat-capacity measurements under hydrostatic pressure of up to p=2.1 GPa have been performed on single-crystalline CeCu2Si2. A broad superconducting (SC) region exists in the T-p phase diagram. In the low-pressure region antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and in the high-pressure region valence fluctuations had previously been proposed to mediate Cooper pairing. We could identify these two distinct SC regions. We found different thermodynamic properties of the SC phase in both regions, supporting the proposal that different mechanisms might be implied in the formation of s…
Based on a microscopic theoretical study, we show that novel superconductivity is induced by carrier doping in layered perovskite Ir oxides where a strong spin-orbit coupling causes an effective total angular momentum J_{eff}=1/2 Mott insulator. Using a variational Monte Carlo method, we find an unconventional superconducting state in the ground state phase diagram of a t_{2g} three-orbital Hubbard model on the square lattice. This superconducting state is characterized by a d_{x^2-y^2}-wave "pseudospin singlet" formed by the J_{eff}=1/2 Kramers doublet, which thus contains inter-orbital as we…
The magnetic field dependence of the spin-susceptibility, $χ_{s}$ was measured in the superconducting state of high purity MgB$_{2}$ fine powders below 1.3 T. $χ_{s}$ was determined from the intensity of the conduction electron spin resonance spectra at 3.8, 9.4, and 35 GHz. At the lowest magnetic fields (0.14 T), a gap opens in the density of states at the Fermi energy and, accordingly, $χ_{s}(T)$ is small at low temperatures. Fields above 0.2 T (about 15 % of $H^{c}_{c2}$, the minimum upper critical field), destroy the gap. The field induced $χ_{s}$ is much larger than expected from current …
We report inelastic x-ray scattering experiments on the lattice dynamics in SmFeAsO and superconducting SmFeAsO$_{0.6}$F$_{0.35}$ single crystals. Particular attention was paid to the dispersions along the [100] direction of three optical modes close to 23 meV, polarized out of the FeAs planes. Remarkably, two of these modes are strongly renormalized upon fluorine doping. These results provide significant insight into the energy and momentum dependence of the coupling of the lattice to the electron system and underline the importance of spin-phonon coupling in the superconducting iron-pnictide…
An extension to the model from Berger is proposed to analyse the nonlinearity of the magnetic field from a rotating superconducting shell, taking into account the effect of the London penetration depth.
We report high magnetic field linear magnetostriction experiments on CeCoIn$_5$ single crystals. Two features are remarkable: (i) a sharp discontinuity in all the crystallographic axes associated with the upper superconducting critical field $B_{c2}$ that becomes less pronounced as the temperature increases; (ii) a distinctive second order-like feature observed only along the c-axis in the high field (10 T $ \lesssim B \leq B_{c2}$) low temperature ($T \lesssim$ 0.35 K) region. This second order transition is observed only when the magnetic field lies within 20$^o$ of the ab-planes and there i…
We prepared superconducting and non-superconducting FeSe films on SrTiO3(001) substrates (FeSe/STO) and investigated the superconducting transition induced by charge transfer between organic molecules and FeSe layers by low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. At low coverage, donor- and acceptor-type molecules adsorbed preferentially on the non-superconducting and superconducting FeSe layers, respectively. Superconductivity was induced by donor molecules on non-superconducting FeSe layer, while the superconductivity was suppressed near acceptor molecules. The correspond…

We examine the modified electronic states at the interface between superconducting and ferro(para)-electric heterostructures. We find that electric polarization $P$ and superconducting $ψ$ order parameters can be significantly modified due to coupling through linear terms brought about by explicit symmetry breaking at the interface. Using an effective action and a Ginzburg-Landau formalism, we show that an interaction term linear in the electric polarization will modify the superconducting order parameter $ψ$ at the interface. This also produces modulation of a ferroelectric polarization. It i…
We report high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) study of nano-sized Pb islands grown on SrTiO3, where three distinct types of gaps with different energy scales are revealed. At low temperature, an enlarged superconducting gap (Δs) emerges while there is no enhancement in superconducting transition temperature (Tc), giving rise to a larger BCS ratio 2Δs/kBTc ~ 6.22. The strong coupling here may originate from the electron-phonon coupling on the metal-oxide interface. As the superconducting gap is suppressed under applied magnetic field or at elevated temperature, Coulomb gap and p…
Oxygen NMR is used to probe the local influence of nonmagnetic Zn and magnetic Ni impurities in the superconducting state of optimally doped high Tc YBa2Cu3O7. Zn and Ni induce a staggered paramagnetic polarization, similar to that evidenced above Tc, with a typical extension xi=3 cell units for Zn and xi>=3 for Ni. In addition, Zn is observed to induce a local density of states near the Fermi Energy in its neighbourhood, which also decays over about 3 cell units. Its magnitude decreases sharply with increasing temperature. This allows direct comparison with the STM observations done in BiSCO.
We report measurements of the magnetic penetration depth $λ$ in single crystals of PrRu$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ down to 0.1 K. Both $λ$ and superfluid density $ρ_{s}$ exhibit an exponential behavior for $T$ $<$ 0.5$T_{c}$, with parameters $Δ$(0)/\textit{k}$_{B}$\textit{T}$_{c}$ = 1.9 and $λ(0)$ = 2900 Å. The value of $Δ$(0) is consistent with the specific-heat jump value of $ΔC/γT_{c}$ = 1.87 measured elsewhere, while the value of $λ(0)$ is consistent with the measured value of the electronic heat-capacity coefficient $γ$. Our data are consistent with PrRu$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ being a moderate-coupling, full…
Complex conductivity spectra of superconducting Nb are calculated from the first principles in the frequency region around the energy gap and compared to the experimental results. The row experimental data obtained on thin films can be precisely described by these calculations.
For a thin superconducting shell with cylindrical symmetry, the magnetic field generated by its rotation is easily evaluated in the Ginzburg-Landau framework. We compare this field with the result that is obtained by using the London theory.
We experimentally and numerically study a NbN superconducting stripline resonator integrated with a microbridge. We find that the response of the system to monochromatic excitation exhibits intermittency, namely, noise-induced jumping between coexisting steady-state and limit-cycle responses. A theoretical model that assumes piecewise linear dynamics yields partial agreement with the experimental findings.
The band structure and the Fermi surface of hexagonal diborides ZrB2, VB2, NbB2, TaB2 have been studied by the self-consistent full-potential LMTO method and compared with those for the isostructural superconductor MgB2. Factors responsible for the superconducting properties of AlB2-like diborides are analyzed, and the results obtained are compared with previous calculations and available experimental data.
We examine magnetic field dependent properties associated with the newly discovered field-induced superconducting state (FISC) in lambda-BETS2FeCl4. These include the metal-to-antiferromagnetic insulator transition, the critical field of the FISC state in tilted magnetic fields, and the low-pressure, magnetic field dependence of the insulating and superconducting phases.
Motivated by recent thermal conductivity measurements in the superconductor CeCoIn5, we theoretically examine a possible staggered spin-triplet superconducting order to be induced by the coupled spin-density-wave (SDW) and d-wave superconducting (SC) orders in the high field and low temperature (HFLT) SC phase peculiar to this material with strong paramagnetic pair-breaking (PPB). It is shown that one type of the $π$-triplet order is consistent with the thermal conductivity data and can naturally be incorporated in the picture that the Q-phase is a consequence of the strong PPB effect inducing…
We theoretically consider superconducting proximity effect, using the Bogoliubov-de Gennes theory, in heterostructure sandwich-type geometries involving a normal s-wave superconductor and a non-superconducting material with the proximity effect being driven by Cooper pairs tunneling from the superconducting slab to the non-superconducting slab. Applications of the superconducting proximity effect may rely on an induced spectral gap or induced pairing correlations without any spectral gap. We clarify that in a non-superconducting material the induced spectral gap and pairing correlations are in…
Candidates for new thermoelectric and superconducting materials, which have narrow band gap and flat bands near band edges, were searched by the high-throughput first-principles calculation from an inorganic materials database. The synthesized SnBi$_2$Se$_4$ among the target compounds showed a narrow band gap of 354 meV, and a thermal conductivity of 1 W/Km at ambient pressure. The sample SnBi$_2$Se$_4$ showed a metal-insulator transition at 11.1 GPa, as predicted by a theoretical estimation. Furthermore, the two pressure-induced superconducting transitions were discovered at under 20.2 GPa an…
We study the proximity effect in a superconductor (S)-normal metal (N) bilayer under in-plane magnetic field. A compensation between the Zeeman effect and the energy splitting between bonding and anti-bonding levels leads to a magnetic field induced superconducting phase in the (H,T) phase diagram of the S-N bilayer well above the standard paramagnetic limit. We demonstrate that the presence of the non-magnetic impurities shrink the region of field induced superconductivity existence in S-N and S-S bilayers.
Starting from the generalized t-J-G model Hamiltonian, we analyze the spin response in the superconducting cuprates taking into account both local and itinerant spin components which are coupled to each other self-consistently. Derived expression reproduces the basic observations of neutron scattering data in YBa2Cu3O6+y compounds near the optimal doping level.
We have studied the electronic transport properties of homogeneously disordered superconducting tantalum thin films in magnetic fields. The films exhibit three distinct transport regimes in the zero temperature limit which we identify as superconducting, metallic, and insulating phases. The metallic phase is unexpected. The transport characteristics of this metallic phase are found to be similar to those of MoGe films and high mobility dilute two-dimensional electrons or holes confined in semiconductor interface or transistor geometry.
We measured the electrical resistivity, $\varrho(T)$, of superconducting CaC$\_6$ at ambient and high pressure up to 16 GPa. For $P \leq$8 GPa, we found a large increase of $T\_c$ with pressure from 11.5 up to 15.1 K. At 8 GPa, $T\_c$ drops and levels off at 5 K above 10 GPa. Correspondingly, the residual $\varrho$ increases by $\approx$ 200 times and the $\varrho(T)$ behavior becomes flat. The recovery of the pristine behavior after depressurization is suggestive of a phase transition at 8 GPa between two superconducting phases with good and bad metallic properties, the latter with a lower $T…
We investigate the current induced magnetization dynamics and magnetization switching in an unconventional p-wave superconductor sandwiched between two misaligned ferromagnetic layers by numerically solving Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation modified with current induced Slonczewski's spin torque term. A modified form of Ginzburg-Landau free energy functional has been used for this purpose. We demonstrated the possibility of current induced magnetization switching in the spin-triplet ferromagnetic superconducting hybrid structures with strong easy axis anisotropy and the condition for magnetizat…
Inelastic neutron scattering performed at a spallation source is used to make absolute measurements of the dynamic susceptibility of insulating La2CuO4 and superconducting La2-xSrxCuO4 over the energy range 15<EN<350 meV. The effect of Sr doping on the magnetic excitations is to cause a large broadening in wavevector and a substantial change in the spectrum of the local spin fluctuations. Comparison of the two compositions reveals a new energy scale of 22 meV in La1.86Sr0.14CuO4.
Thermal fluctuations of the order parameter in an ultrathin triangular shaped superconducting structure are studied near $T_{c}$, in zero applied field. We find that the order parameter is prone to much larger fluctuations in the corners of the structure as compared to its interior. This geometry-induced localization of thermal fluctuations is attributed to the fact that condensate confinement in the corners is characterised by a lower effective dimensionality, which favors stronger fluctuations.
The paper by G. R. Berdiyorov, M. V. Milosevic, and F. M. Peeters [Phys. Rev. B 81, 144511 (2010)] studies theoretically the dynamic properties of a superconducting loop. The authors claim that their consideration of asymmetric loop relates to our experimental results in this field. We point out that this claim is incorrect and explain shortly the true paradoxical essence of the results of our measurements of asymmetric superconducting loop.
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements of superconducting thin lanthanum films grown on a normal metal tungsten substrate reveal an extraordinarily large broadening of the coherence peaks. The observed broadening corresponds to very short electron-like quasiparticle lifetimes in the tunneling process. A thorough analysis considering the different relaxation processes reveals that the dominant mechanism is an efficient quasiparticle relaxation at the interface between the superconducting film and the underlying substrate. This process is of general relevance to scanning tunneling spectros…
Transverse-field muon-spin rotation measurements performed on two samples of LiFeAs demonstrate that the superfluid stiffness of the superconducting condensate in relation to its superconducting transition temperature is enhanced compared to other pnictide superconductors. Evidence is seen for a field-induced magnetic state in a sample with a significantly suppressed superconducting transition temperature. The results in this system highlight the role of direct Fe-Fe interactions in frustrating pairing mediated by antiferromagnetic fluctuations and suggest that, in common with other pnictide s…
We propose a novel mechanism for the photo-induced superconducting-like response recently reported in cuprates and other strongly correlated materials. This mechanism relies on quantum-fluctuating bosons consisting of electron pairs. With periodic drive, the electron pairs and vacancies of pairs form a coherent non-equilibrium condensate, different from conventional superconductors, yet showing superconducting-like response in some regimes even with dissipation. Unlike the case of driven fermionic bands which results in the familiar Floquet bands with hybridization gaps, for driven bosons the …
We show that vertex corrections to Migdal's theorem in general induce an odd-frequency spin-triplet superconducting order parameter, which coexists with its more commonly known even-frequency spin-singlet counterpart. Fully self-consistent vertex-corrected Eliashberg theory calculations for a two dimensional cuprate model, isotropically coupled to an Einstein phonon, confirm that both superconducting gaps are finite over a wide range of temperatures. The subordinate $d$-wave odd-frequency superconducting gap is found to be one order of magnitude smaller than the primary even-frequency $d$-wave…
We have investigated the crystal structures and superconducting properties of thin films of FeSe$_{0.5}$Te$_{0.5}$ grown on eight different substrates. Superconductivity is not correlated with the lattice mismatch; rather it is correlated with the degree of in-plane orientation and with the lattice parameter ratio $c/a$. The best superconducting properties were observed in films on MgO and LaAlO$_3$ ($T_\mathrm{c}^\mathrm{zero}$ of 9.5 K). TEM observation showed that the presence or absence of an amorphous-like layer at the substrate surface plays a key role in determining the structural and s…
It is shown that currents in thin-film superconducting rings irradiated by coherent microwave fields, can discretely decay with photons emission. These quantized jumps of the supercurrent correspond to destruction one or several magnetic flux quanta trapped in the ring. The ring thickness should be less than the skin-depth of the low-frequency field. The probability of the microwave field-induced single-photon decay of the supercurrent states in these rings is obtained. The angle distributions of the photons emitted by superconducting rings, and the current state lifetimes, depending on the ri…
Solutions of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations for the two-dimensional self-consistent Hubbard t-U-V model of superconductors with $d_{x^2-y^2}$ symmetry of the order parameter in the presence of a magnetic field are found. It is shown that spatial inhomogeneity of superconducting order parameter results in the emergence of stripe-like domains that are stabilized by applied magnetic field leading to emergence of space-modulated composite spin-charge-superconducting order parameter.
The pressure dependence, up to 11.3 kbar, of basic parameters of the superconducting state, such as the critical temperature (Tc), the lower and the upper critical fields, the coherence length, the penetration depth, and their anisotropy, was determined from magnetic measurements performed for two singlecrystalline samples of FeTe0.5Se0.5. We have found pressure-induced enhancement of all of the superconducting state properties, which entails a growth of the density of superconducting carriers. However, we noticed more pronounced increase in superconducting carrier density under pressure than …
The origin of magnetic flux noise in Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices with a power spectrum scaling as $1/f$ ($f$ is frequency) has been a puzzle for over 20 years. This noise limits the decoherence time of superconducting qubits. A consensus has emerged that the noise arises from fluctuating spins of localized electrons with an areal density of $5\times10^{17}$m$^{-2}$. We show that, in the presence of potential disorder at the metal-insulator interface, some of the metal-induced gap states become localized and produce local moments. A modest level of disorder yields the observed …
We show that electromagnetically-induced transparency and lasing without inversion are simultaneously achieved for microwave fields by using a fluxonium superconducting circuit. As a result of the $Δ$ energy-level structure of this artificial three-level atom, we find the surprising phenomenon that the electromagnetically-induced transparency window in the frequency domain is sandwiched between absorption on one side and amplification on the other side.
Effects of the strong Pauli-paramagnetic pair-breaking (PPB) on the vortex lattice in d-wave superconductors are theoretically studied by putting emphasis on consequences of the PPB-induced antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering in the spatial modulation in the vortex lattice. It is shown that the PPB-induced AFM fluctuation in the superconducting state leads to an enhancement of the vortex lattice form factor which is a measure of spatial variations of the internal magnetic field and that the enhancement becomes more remarkable as an AFM instability is approached. It is also demonstrated that the P…
We measure resistively the mean-field superconducting-normal phase boundaries of both kagome and honeycomb wire networks immersed in a transverse magnetic field. In addition to their agreement with theory about the overall shapes of phase diagrams, they show striking one-to-one correspondence between the cusps in the honeycomb and kagome phase boundaries. This correspondence is due to their geometric arrangements and agrees with Lin and Nori's recent calculation. We also find that for the frustrated honeycomb network at f=1/2, the current patterns in the superconducting phase differ between th…
We have studied hybrid superconducting micro-coolers made of a double Superconductor-Insulator-Normal metal tunnel junction. Under subgap conditions, the Andreev current is found to dominate the single-particle tunnel current. We show that the Andreev current introduces additional dissipation in the normal metal equivalent to Joule heating. By analyzing quantitatively the heat balance in the system, we provide a full description of the evolution of the electronic temperature with the voltage. The dissipation induced by the Andreev current is found to dominate the quasiparticle tunneling-based …
Unconventional superconductivity is usually associated with symmetry breaking in the system. Here we consider a simple setup consisting of a solid state material with conduction electrons and an applied surface acoustic wave (SAW), that can break time and spatial translation symmetries. We study the symmetries of the possible SAW-induced order parameters, showing that even-frequency spin-triplet odd-parity order parameter can occur. We suggest different methods of how to engineer the symmetries of the order parameters using SAWs and the applications of such setups.
Understanding depairing effects in a hybrid-superconducting interface utilizing high spin-orbit materials such as topological insulators or 1D semiconducting nanowires is becoming an important research topic in the study of proximity-induced superconductivity. Experimentally, proximity-induced superconductivity is found to suppress at much lower magnetic fields compared to the superconducting layer without a good understanding of its cause. Here, we provide a phenomenological tool to characterize different pair-breaking mechanisms, the ones that break or preserve time reversal symmetry, and sh…
We have developed a superconducting phase gradiometer consisting of two parallel DNA-templated nanowires connecting two thin-film leads. We have ramped the cross current flowing perpendicular to the nanowires, and observed oscillations in the lead-to-lead resistance due to cross-current-induced phase differences. By using this gradiometer we have measured the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the superfluid density and observed an amplification of phase gradients caused by elastic vortex displacements. We examine our data in light of Miller-Bardeen theory of dirty superconductors an…
