Let $G$ be a finite group and $k$ an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. We define the notion of a Dade $kG$-module as a generalization of endo-permutation modules for $p$-groups. We show that under a suitable equivalence relation, the set of equivalence classes of Dade $kG$-modules forms a group under tensor product, and the group obtained this way is isomorphic to the Dade group $D(G)$ defined by Lassueur. We also consider the subgroup $D^Ω (G)$ of $D(G)$ generated by relative syzygies $Ω_X$, where $X$ is a finite $G$-set. If $C(G,p)$ denotes the group of superclass functions defined on the $p$-subgroups of $G$, there are natural generators $ω_X$ of $C(G,p)$, and we prove the existence of a well-defined group homomorphism $Ψ_G:C(G,p)\to D^Ω(G)$ that sends $ω_X$ to $Ω_X$. The main theorem of the paper is the verification that the subgroup of $C(G,p)$ consisting of the dimension functions of $k$-orientable real representations of $G$ lies in the kernel of $Ψ_G$.
We introduce endo-permutation Mackey functors and the Mackey-Dade group of a $p$-group and study their basic properties. We exhibit relations between the Mackey-Dade group of a finite $p$-group $P$ and the Dade groups of the Weyl groups of all subgroups of $P$. As a result, we show that the Mackey-Dade group tensored with $\mathbb Q$ over $\mathbb Z$ is the kernel of the linearization map for Mackey functors, introduced by the author.
For the group of endo-permutation modules of a finite \(p\)-group, there is a surjective reduction modulo \(p\) homomorphism from a complete discrete valuation ring of characteristic 0 to its residue field of characteristic \(p\). We prove that this reduction map always has a section which is a group homomorphism.
Dade's conjecture predicts that if p is a prime, then the number of irreducible characters of a finite group of a given p-defect is determined by local subgroups. In this paper we replace $p$ by a set of primes pi and prove a pi-version of Dade's conjecture for pi-separable groups. This extends the (known) p-solvable case of the original conjecture and relates to a pi-version of Alperin's weight conjecture previously established by the authors.
Let $K$ be a normal subgroup of the finite group $H$. To a block of a $K$-interior $H$-algebra we associate a group extension, and we prove that this extension is isomorphic to an extension associated to a block given by the Brauer homomorphism. This may be regarded as a generalization and an alternative treatment of Dade's results "Block extensions" Section 12.
Let p be a prime number. This paper introduces the Roquette category R_p of finite p-groups, which is an additive tensor category containing all finite p-groups among its objects. In R_p, every finite p-group P admits a canonical direct summand, called the edge of P. Moreover P splits uniquely as a direct sum of edges of Roquette p-groups, and the tensor structure of R_p can be described in terms of such edges. The main motivation for considering this category is that the additive functors from R_p to abelian groups are exactly the rational p-biset functors. This yields in particular very effi…
Classifying endotrivial kG-modules, i.e., elements of the Picard group of the stable module category for an arbitrary finite group G, has been a long-running quest. By deep work of Dade, Alperin, Carlson, Thevenaz, and others, it has been reduced to understanding the subgroup consisting of modular representations that split as the trivial module k direct sum a projective module when restricted to a Sylow p-subgroup. In this paper we identify this subgroup as the first cohomology group of the orbit category on non-trivial p-subgroups with values in the units k^x, viewed as a constant coefficien…
We present a new criterion to predict if a character of a finite group extends. Let $G$ be a finite group and $p$ a prime. For $N\lhd G$, we consider $p$-blocks $b$ and $b'$ of $N$ and ${\rm N}_N(D)$, respectively, with $(b')^N=b$, where $D$ is a defect group of $b'$. Under the assumption that $G$ coincides with a normal subgroup $G[b]$ of $G$, which was introduced by Dade early 1970's, we give a character correspondence between the sets of all irreducible constituents of $ϕ^G$ and those of $(ϕ')^{{\rm N}_G(D)}$ where $ϕ$ and $ϕ'$ are irreducible Brauer characters in $b$ and $b'$, respectively…
Let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$. We survey some results on algebras of finite global dimension and address some open problems.
The aim of this paper is to study the dominant dimension of two important classes of finite dimensional algebras, namely, hereditary algebras and tree algebras. We derive an explicit formula for the dominant dimension of each class.
We consider the dimensions of finite type of representations of a partially ordered set, i.e. such that there is only finitely many isomorphism classes of representations of this dimension. We give a criterion for a dimension to be of finite type. We also characterize those dimensions of finite type, for which there is an indecomposable representation of this dimension, and show that there can be at most one indecomposable representation of any dimension of finite type. Moreover, if such a representation exists, it only has scalar endomorphisms.
We investigate cohomological support varieties for finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras defined over fields of odd characteristic. Verifying a conjecture from our previous work, we show the support variety of a finite-dimensional supermodule can be realized as an explicit subset of the odd nullcone of the underlying Lie superalgebra. We also show the support variety of a finite-dimensional supermodule is zero if and only if the supermodule is of finite projective dimension. As a consequence, we obtain a positive characteristic version of a theorem of Bøgvad, showing that if a finite-dimensiona…
We obtain a complete classification of all finite-dimensional irreducible modules over classical map superalgebras, provide formulas for their (super)characters and a description of their extension groups. Furthermore, we describe the block decomposition of the category of finite-dimensional modules for such map superalgebras. As an application, we specialize our results to the case of loop superalgebras in order to obtain a classification of finite-dimensional irreducible modules and block decomposition of the category of finite-dimensional modules over affine Lie superalgebras.
In this paper we classify global dimensions of the category algebras of some finite categories, including finite truncations of the categories $FI$, $FI_G$, $FI_d$, $OI$, $OI_G$, $OI_d$ and $VI$
We rule out a certain $9$-dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field to be the basic algebra of a block of a finite group, thereby completing the classification of basic algebras of dimension at most $12$ of blocks of finite group algebras.
We discuss the homological algebra of representation theory of finite dimensional algebras and finite groups. We present various methods for the construction and the study of equivalences of derived categories: local group theory, geometry and categorifications.
Linear Lie Groups All of Whose Irreducible Finite-Dimensional Not Necessarily Unitary Representations Are of Bounded Dimension and Separate the Points of the Group
Given a tilting object of the derived category of an abelian category of finite global dimension, we give (under suitable finiteness conditions) a bound for the global dimension of its endomorphism ring.
Dieter Happel asked the following question: If the $n$-th Hochschild cohomology group of a finite dimensional algebra $Γ$ over a field vanishes for all sufficiently large $n$, is the global dimension of $Γ$ finite? We give a negative answer to this question.
Given a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$, we show that a frequently satisfied finiteness condition for the category ${\cal P}^{\infty}(Λ\rm{-mod})$ of all finitely generated (left) $Λ$-modules of finite projective dimension, namely contravariant finiteness of ${\cal P}^{\infty}(Λ\rm{-mod})$ in $Λ\rm{-mod}$, forces arbitrary modules of finite projective dimension to be direct limits of objects in ${\cal P}^{\infty}(Λ\rm{-mod})$. Among numerous applications, this yields an encompassing sufficient condition for the validity of the first finitistic dimension conjecture, that is, for the little finit…
A new homological dimension is introduced to measure the quality of resolutions of `singular' finite dimensional algebras (of infinite global dimension) by `regular' ones (of finite global dimension). Upper bounds are established in terms of extensions and of Hochschild cohomology, and finiteness in general is derived from homological conjectures. Then invariance under stable equivalences is shown to hold, with some exceptions when there are nodes in case of additive equivalences, and without exceptions in case of triangulated equivalences. Stable equivalences of Morita type and derived equiva…
In this paper, we classify the finite dimensional irreducible modules for affine BMW algebra over an algebraically closed field with arbitrary characteristic.
In this paper the author finds explicitly all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of a series of finite permutation groups that are homomorphic images of Artin braid group.
We classify up to equivalence all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of PSL2(Z) whose restriction to the commutator subgroup is diagonalizable.
The Hirzebuch-Riemann-Roch (HRR) and Lefschetz type formulas for finite dimensional elementary algebras of finite global dimension are explicitly given. They have cohomological, homological, Hochschild cohomological and Hochschild homological four versions, and module, bimodule, module complex and bimodule complex four levels. For this, the dimension matrix of a bimodule (complex) and the trace matrix of a bimodule (complex) endomorphism are introduced. It is shown that Shklyarov pairing, Chern character and Hattori-Stallings trace can be concretely expressed by Cartan matrix, dimension vector…
