Let $\mathcal{O}_K$ be the ring of integers in an algebraic number field $K$ and let $S:=\operatorname{Spec}(\mathcal{O}_K)$. Let $T_0,\ldots,T_n$ be regular schemes of finite type over $S$ and let $X$ be a scheme of finite type over $T_n$ with a stratification of closed subschemes (a generalized cellular decomposition) \[ \emptyset=X_{-1} \subseteq X_0 \subseteq \cdots \subseteq X_{n-1} \subseteq X_n:=X \] with $X_i-X_{i-1}=E_i$ where $E_i$ is a vector bundle of rank $d_i$ on $T_i$. We prove that if the Beilinson-Soule vanishing conjecture and Soule conjecture holds for $T_i$ it follows the same conjectures hold for $X$. We develop a criteria for the conjectures to hold in terms of an open cover and use this criteria to prove the Beilinson-Soule vanishing conjecture and Soule conjecture for the partial flag bundle $\mathbb{F}(d,E)$ of any coherent $\mathcal{O}_S$-module $E$ on $S$. Hence we get non-trivial examples where the conjectures hold in arbitrary dimension. As a special case we prove the conjectures for any affine or projective fibration of finite type over $S$. We moreover reduce the study of the Beilinson-Soule vanishing conjecture and the Soule conjecture on L-functions to the study of affine regular schemes of finite type over $\mathbb{Z}$. We also discuss the Beilinson conjecture on special values for partial flag bundles. We reduce the study of the Bloch-Kato conjecture on special values for flag bundles to the case of Dedekind domains.
Let R be a semi-local Dedekind domain and let K be the field of fractions of R. Let G be a reductive semisimple simply connected R-group scheme such that every semisimple normal R-subgroup scheme of G contains a split R-torus G_m. We prove that the kernel of the map H^1_et(R,G)-> H^1_et(K,G) induced by the inclusion of R into K, is trivial. This result partially extends a theorem of Nisnevich.
Based on the Brieskorn-Slodowy-Grothendieck diagram, we write the holomorphic structures (or filtrations) of the ADE Lie algebra bundles over the corresponding type ADE flag varieties, over the cotangent bundles of these flag varieties, and over the corresponding type $ADE$ singular surfaces. The main tool is the cohomology of line bundles over flag varieties and their cotangent bundles.
As a natural extension of the theory of uniform vector bundles on Fano manifolds, we consider uniform principal bundles, and study them by means of the associated flag bundles, as their natural projective geometric realizations. In this paper we develop the necessary background, and prove some theorems that are flag bundle counterparts of some of the central results in the theory of uniform vector bundles.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve defined over an algebraically closed field $k$, and let $E$ be a vector bundle on $X$. We compute the nef cone of any flag bundle associated to $E$.
We introduce analogs of the Kempf--Laksov desingularizations of Schubert bundles in (non-necessary Lagrangian) symplectic Grassmann bundles. In this setting, these are (possibly singular) irreducible flag bundles that are birational to Schubert bundles, and can be described as chains of zero-loci of regular sections in projectivized bundles. The orthogonal analogs are also presented. We immediatly derive universal Gysin formulas for isotropic Schubert bundles from these very constructions.
We give a short, geometric proof of Graham's theorem on positivity in the equivariant cohomology of a flag variety, based on a transversality argument.
In this note, we give Gysin formulas for partial flag bundles for the classical groups. We then give Gysin formulas for Schubert varieties in Grassmann bundles, including isotropic ones. All these formulas are proved in a rather uniform way by using the step-by-step construction of flag bundles and the Gysin formula for a projective bundle. In this way we obtain a comprehensive list of new universal formulas.
We give push-forward formulas for all flag bundles of types A, B, C, D. The formulas (and also the proofs) involve only Segre classes of the original vector bundles and characteristic classes of universal bundles. As an application, we provide new determinantal formulas.
As an application of a recent characterization of complete flag manifolds as Fano manifolds having only ${\mathbb P}^1$-bundles as elementary contractions, we consider here the case of a Fano manifold $X$ of Picard number one supporting an unsplit family of rational curves whose subfamilies parametrizing curves through a fixed point are rational homogeneous, and we prove that $X$ is homogeneous. In order to do this, we first study minimal sections on flag bundles over the projective line, and discuss how Grothendieck's theorem on principal bundles allows us to describe a flag bundle upon some …
Intersection rings of flag varieties and of isotropic flag varieties are generated by Chern classes of the tautological bundles modulo the relations coming from multiplicativity of total Chern classes. In this paper we describe the Groebner bases of the ideals of relations and give applications to computation of intersections, as implemented in Macaulay2.
We study vector bundles on flag varieties over an algebraically closed field $k$. In the first part, we suppose $G=G_k(d,n)$ $(2\le d\leq n-d)$ to be the Grassmannian manifold parameterizing linear subspaces of dimension $d$ in $k^n$, where $k$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. Let $E$ be a uniform vector bundle over $G$ of rank $r\le d$. We show that $E$ is either a direct sum of line bundles or a twist of a pull back of the universal bundle $H_d$ or its dual $H_d^{\vee}$ by a series of absolute Frobenius maps. In the second part, splitting properties of vector bundles…
We show that there is a ${SL_n}$-stable closed subset of an affine Schubert variety in the infinite dimensional Flag variety (associated to the Kac-Moody group ${\widehat{SL_n}}$) which is a natural compactification of the cotangent bundle to the finite-dimensional Flag variety ${SL_n/B}$.
We express the diagonals of projective, Grassmann and, more generally, flag bundles of type (A) using the zero schemes of some vector bundle sections, and do the same for their single point subschemes. We discuss diagonal and point properties of these flag bundles. We study when the complex manifolds G/B for other groups have the point and diagonal properties. We discuss explicit formulas for the classes of diagonals of the varieties G/B.
We prove that every toric quiver flag variety $Y$ is isomorphic to a fine moduli space of cyclic modules over the algebra $\text{End}(T)$ for some tilting bundle $T$ on $Y$. This generalises the well known fact that $\mathbb{P}^n$ can be recovered from the endomorphism algebra of $\bigoplus_{0\leq i\leq n} \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^n}(i)$.
In this paper, we study equivariant vector bundles on partial flag varieties arising from Schur functors. We show that a partial flag variety with three or more steps does not admit an Ulrich bundle of this form with respect to the minimal ample class. We classify Ulrich bundles of this form on two-step flag varieties F(2,n;n+1), F(2,n;n+2), F(k,k+1;n), and F(k,k+2;n). We give a conjectural description of the two-step flag varieties which admit such Ulrich bundles. Our results provide counterexamples to conjectures by Costa and Miro-Roig.
In this paper, we study equivariant vector bundles on partial flag varieties arising from Schur functors. We show that a partial flag variety with three or more steps does not admit an Ulrich bundle of this form with respect to the minimal ample class. We classify Ulrich bundles of this form on two-step flag varieties F(1,n-1;n), F(2,n-1;n), F(2,n-2;n), F(k,k+1;n) and F(k,k+2;n). We describe hypergeometric solutions of the quantum differential equation of the cotangent bundle of a gl_n partial flag variety. These hypergeometric solutions manifest the Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry for the cotangent bundle of a partial flag variety.
This note gives a simple formula for the unique asymptotically conical Calabi-Yau metrics on the canonical bundle of a flag variety known to exist by the work of R. Goto and others. This is done by generalizing the well known Calabi Ansatz to general Kähler classes. We give some examples of explicit families, in particular, a formula for the two dimensional family of asymptotically conical metrics on the canonical bundle of $F_{1,2}$.
Let $G$ be a connected linear algebraic group over a field $k$ of characteristic zero. For a principal $G$-bundle $π: E \to X$ over a scheme $X$ of finite type over $k$ and a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$, we describe the rational algebraic cobordism and higher Chow groups of the flag bundle $E/P \to X$ in terms of the cobordism of $X$ and that of the classifying space of a maximal torus of $G$ contained in $P$. As a consequence, we also obtain the formula for the cobordism and higher Chow groups of the principal bundles over the scheme $X$. If $X$ is smooth, this describes the cobordism ring …
Let L be a homogeneous ample line bundle on any flag variety G/P and let T be a maximal torus of G. We prove a general necessary and sufficient condition for L to descend as a line bundle on the GIT quotient of G/P by T. We use this result to explicitly determine exactly which L descend to the GIT quotient for any simple complex algebraic group G and any parabolic subgroup P.
Following the program of algebraic Frobenius splitting begun by Kumar and Littelmann, we use representation-theoretic techniques to construct a Frobenius splitting of the cotangent bundle of the flag variety of a semisimple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. We also show that this splitting is the same as one of the splittings constructed by Kumar, Lauritzen, and Thomsen.
Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup in $SL_n(\mathbb C)$. We show that there is a $SL_n(\mathbb C)$-stable closed subvariety of an affine Schubert variety in an infinite dimensional partial Flag variety (associated to the Kac-Moody group ${\widehat{SL_n}(\mathbb C)}$) which is a natural compactification of the cotangent bundle to $SL_n(\mathbb C)/P$. As a consequence, we recover the Springer resolution for any orbit closure inside the variety of nilpotent matrices.
We use the G-invariant non-degenerate form on the Steinberg module to Frobenius split the cotangent bundle of a flag variety in good prime characteristics. This was previously only known for the general linear group. Applications are a vanishing theorem for pull back of line bundles to the cotangent bundle (proved for the classical groups and G_2 by Andersen and Jantzen and in characteristic zero by B. Broer (for all groups)), normality and rational singularities for the subregular nilpotent variety and good filtrations of the global sections of pull backs of line bundles to the cotangent bund…
Let $V$ be a $K$-vector space of dimension $n+1$. In this paper, we focus our attention into the existence of irreducible homogeneous Ulrich bundles on flag manifolds $\FF(p, q,n)$ which parameterizes all chains of linear subspaces $L_{p} \subset L_{q} \subset \PP(V)$ of dimension $p< q$, respectively. We determine all irreducible homogeneous Ulrich bundles on $\FF(0,n-1,n)$ and we prove that there are exactly $2^{n-1}$. Similarly, we prove that $\FF(0,n-2,n)$ and $\FF(1,n-1,n)$ are also the support of irreducible homogeneous Ulrich bundles. On the other hand, we prove that $\FF(0,1,n)$ do not…
We study the null-cone of a semi-simple algebraic group acting on a number of copies of its Lie algebra via the diagonal adjoint action. We show that the null cone has rational singularities in the case of SL3. We observe by example that the null-cone is not normal in general and that the normalization of the null-cone does not have rational singularities in general. This is achieved by computing cohomology of certain vector bundles on flag varieties.
A real semisimple Lie group G_0 embedded in its complexification G has only finitely many orbits in any G-fag manifold Z = G/Q. The complex geometry of its open orbits D (flag domains) is studied from the point of view of compact complex submanifolds C (cycles) which arise as orbits of certain distinguished subgroups. Normal bundles E of the cycles are analyzed in some detail. It is shown that E is trivial if and only if D is holomorphically convex, in fact a product of C and a Hermitian symmetric space, and otherwise D is pseudoconcave.
Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup in $G=SL_n(\mathbf k)$, for $\mathbf k$ an algebraically closed field. We show that there is a $G$-stable closed subvariety of an affine Schubert variety in an affine partial flag variety which is a natural compactification of the cotangent bundle $T^*G/P$. Restricting this identification to the conormal variety $N^*X(w)$ of a Schubert divisor $X(w)$ in $G/P$, we show that there is a compactification of $N^*X(w)$ as an affine Schubert variety. It follows that $N^*X(w)$ is normal, Cohen-Macaulay, and Frobenius split.
Instanton bundles on $\mathbb{P}^3$ have been at the core of the research in Algebraic Geometry during the last thirty years. Motivated by the recent extension of their definition to other Fano threefolds of Picard number one, we develop the theory of instanton bundles on the complete flag variety $F:=F(0,1,2)$ of point-lines on $\mathbb{P}^2$. After giving for them two different monadic presentations, we use it to show that the moduli space $MI_F(k)$ of instanton bundles of charge $k$ is a geometric GIT quotient and the open subspace $MI^s_F(k)\subset MI_F(k)$ of stable instanton bundles has …
We use equivariant localization and divided difference operators to determine formulas for the torus-equivariant fundamental cohomology classes of $K$-orbit closures on the flag variety $G/B$, where $G = GL(n,\C)$, and where $K$ is one of the symmetric subgroups $O(n,\C)$ or $Sp(n,\C)$. We realize these orbit closures as universal degeneracy loci for a vector bundle over a variety equipped with a single flag of subbundles and a nondegenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric bilinear form taking values in the trivial bundle. We describe how our equivariant formulas can be interpreted as giving formu…
We compute the quantum cohomology rings of the partial flag manifolds F_{n_1\cdots n_k}=U(n)/(U(n_1)\times \cdots \times U(n_k)). The inductive computation uses the idea of Givental and Kim. Also we define a notion of the vertical quantum cohomology ring of the algebraic bundle. For the flag bundle F_{n_1\cdots n_k}(E) associated with the vector bundle E this ring is found.
A Fano manifold $X$ with nef tangent bundle is of flag-type if it has the same type of elementary contractions as a complete flag manifold. In this paper we present a method to associate a Dynkin diagram $\mathcal{D}(X)$ with any such $X$, based on the numerical properties of its contractions. We then show that $\mathcal{D}(X)$ is the Dynkin diagram of a semisimple Lie group. As an application we prove that Campana-Peternell conjecture holds when $X$ is a flag-type manifold whose Dynkin diagram is $A_n$ ($X$ is shown to be the complete flag in $\mathbb{P}^n$).
Under the assumption that the base field k has characteristic 0, we compute the algebraic cobordism fundamental classes of a family of Schubert varieties isomorphic to full and symplectic flag bundles. We use this computation to prove a formula for the push-forward class of the Bott-Samelson resolutions associated to the symplectic flag bundle. We specialise our formula to connective K-theory and the Grothendieck ring of vector bundles, hence obtaining a description for all Schubert classes.
Let P be a parabolic subgroup of a semisimple complex Lie group G defined by a subset Σof simple roots of G, and let E_ϕbe a homogeneous vector bundle over the flag manifold G/P corresponding to a linear representation ϕof P. Using Bott's theorem, we obtain sufficient conditions on ϕin terms of the combinatorial structure of Σfor some cohomology groups of the sheaf of holomorphic sections of E_ϕto be zero. In particular, we define two numbers d(P), l(P) such that for any ϕobtained by natural operations from a representation of dimension less than d(P) the q-th cohomology group of E_ϕis zero fo…
We interpret the equivariant cohomology algebra H^*_{GL_n\times\C^*}(T^*F_λ;\C) of the cotangent bundle of a partial flag variety F_λparametrizing chains of subspaces 0=F_0\subset F_1\subset\dots\subset F_N =\C^n, \dim F_i/F_{i-1}=λ_i, as the Yangian Bethe algebra of the gl_N-weight subspace of a gl_N Yangian module. Under this identification the dynamical connection of [TV1] turns into the quantum connection of [BMO] and [MO]. As a result of this identification we describe the algebra of quantum multiplication on H^*_{GL_n\times\C^*}(T^*F_λ;\C) as the algebra of functions on fibers of a discr…
We obtain A- and B- series of flag manifolds for T-equivariant tangent bundles and equivariant Chern polynomial following the arguments of Lian, Liu, Yau.
Aganagic and Okounkov proved that the elliptic stable envelope provides the pole cancellation matrix for the enumerative invariants of quiver varieties known as vertex functions. This transforms a basis of a system of $q$-difference equations holomorphic in $\boldsymbol{z}$ with poles in $\boldsymbol{a}$ to a basis of solutions holomorphic in $\boldsymbol{a}$ with poles in $\boldsymbol{z}$. The resulting functions are expected to be the vertex functions of the 3d mirror dual variety. In this paper, we prove that for the cotangent bundle of the full flag variety, the functions obtained in this …
Up to a factor 1/n!, the volume of a big line bundle agrees with the Euclidean volume of its Okounkov body. The latter is the convex hull of top rank valuation vectors of sections, all with respect to a single flag. In this text we give a different volume formula, valid in the ample cone, also based on top rank valuation vectors, but mixing data along several different flags.
Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group. Let $\mathcal{E}\rightarrow \mathcal{B}$ be a principal $G\times G$-bundle and $X$ be a regular compactification of $G$. We describe the Grothendieck ring of the associated fibre bundle $\mathcal{E}(X):=\mathcal{E}\times_{G\times G} X$, as an algebra over the Grothendieck ring of a canonical toric bundle over a flag bundle on $\mathcal{B}$. These are relative versions of the results on equivariant $K$-theory of regular compactifications of $G$. They also generalize the well known results on the Grothendieck rings of projective bundles, toric bu…
This paper introduces a class of smooth projective varieties that generalise and share many properties with partial flag varieties of type A. The quiver flag variety M_\vartheta(Q,r) of a finite acyclic quiver Q (with a unique source) and a dimension vector r is a fine moduli space of stable representations of Q. Quiver flag varieties are Mori Dream Spaces, they are obtained via a tower of Grassmann bundles, and their bounded derived category of coherent sheaves is generated by a tilting bundle. We define the multigraded linear series of a weakly exceptional sequence of locally free sheaves E …
Noncommutative Kähler structures were recently introduced by the second author as a framework for studying noncommutative Kähler geometry on quantum homogeneous spaces. It was subsequently observed that the notion of a positive vector bundle directly generalises to this setting, as does the Kodaira vanishing theorem. In this paper, by restricting to covariant Kähler structures of irreducible type (those having an irreducible space of holomorphic one-forms) we provide simple cohomological criteria for positivity, offering a means to avoid explicit curvature calculations. These general results a…
Explicit combinatorial cancellation-free rules are given for the product of an equivariant line bundle class with a Schubert class in the torus-equivariant K-theory of a Kac-Moody flag manifold. The weight of the line bundle may be dominant or antidominant, and the coefficients may be described either by Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths or by the alcove model of the first author and Postnikov. For Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths, our formulas are the Kac-Moody generalizations of results of Griffeth-Ram and Pittie-Ram for finite dimensional flag manifolds. A gap in the proofs of the mentioned results is add…
We define a variety of doubly indexed flags, this is a smooth, projective variety, and we describe it as an iterated over Grassmannian varieties. On the other hand, we consider the variety of partial flags which are stabilized by a given nilpotent endomorphism. We partition this variety into locally closed subvarieties which are vector bundles over varieties of the aforedmentioned type.
Hartshorne in "Ample vector bundles" proved that $E$ is ample if and only if $\OOO_{P(E)}(1)$ is ample. Here we generalize this result to flag manifolds associated to a vector bundle $E$ on a complex manifold $X$: For a partition $a$ we show that the line bundle $\it Q_a^s$ on the corresponding flag manifold $\mathcal{F}l_s(E)$ is ample if and only if $ \SSS_aE $ is ample. In particular $\det Q$ on $\it{G}_r(E)$ is ample if and only if $\wedge ^rE$ is ample.\\ We give also a proof of the Ampleness Dominance theorem that does not depend on the saturation property of the Littlewood-Richardson se…
Let G be a semisimple complex algebraic group with Borel subgroup B and let P be a parabolic subgroup of G. Let T*(G/P) denote the cotangent bundle of G/P. Ranee Brylinski discovered a connection between cohomology of G-equivariant line bundles on T*(G/B) and the so-called Brylinski-Kostant filtration, which describes the action of principal sl_2 triples on G-representations. In this paper we generalize these results to a larger class of sl_2 triples. Along the way we also obtain generalizations of results due to Broer on cohomology of G-equivariant bundles on T*(G/P) for various parabolics P.
