In this short paper, we prove that a Finsler manifold with vanishing Berwald scalar curvature has zero $\mathbf{E}$-curvature. As a consequence, Landsberg manifolds with vanishing Berwald scalar curvature are Berwald manifolds. This improves a previous result in \cite{Li}. For $(α,β)$-metrics on manifold of dimension greater than 2, if the mean Landsberg curvature and the Berwald scalar curvature both vanish, the Berwald curvature also vanishes.
In this short paper, we establish a closer relation between the Berwald scalar curvature and the $S$-curvature. In fact, we prove that a Finsler metric has isotropic Berwald scalar curvature if and only if it has weakly isotropic $S$-curvature. For Finsler metrics of scalar flag curvature and of weakly isotropic $S$-curvature, they have almost isotropic $S$-curvature if and only if the flag curvature is weakly isotropic.
In this short paper, we study a symmetric covariant tensor in Finsler geometry, which is called the mean Berwald curvature. We first investigate the geometry of the fibres as the submanifolds of the tangent sphere bundle on a Finsler manifold. Then we prove that if the mean Berwald curvature is isotropic along fibres, then the Berwald scalar curvature is constant along fibres.
The class of generalized Berwald metrics contains the class of Berwald metrics. In this paper, we characterize two-dimensional generalized Berwald $(α, β)$-metrics with vanishing S-curvature. Let $F=αϕ(s)$, $s=β/α$, be a two-dimensional generalized Berwald $(α,β)$-metric on a manifold $M$. Suppose that $F$ has vanishing S-curvature. We show that one of the following holds: (i) if $F$ is a regular metric, then it reduces to a Riemannian metric of isotropic sectional curvature or a locally Minkowskian metric; (ii) if $F$ is an almost regular metric that is not Riemannian nor locally Minkowskian,…
In this paper, we prove two rigidity results for non-positively curved homogeneous Finsler metrics. Our first main result yields an extension of Hu-Deng's well-known result proven for the Randers metrics. Indeed, we prove that every connected homogeneous Finsler space with non-positive flag curvature and isotropic S-curvature is Riemannian or locally Minkowskian. We extend the Szabó's rigidity theorem for Berwald surfaces and show that homogeneous isotropic Berwald metrics with non-positive flag curvature are Riemannian or locally Minkowskian. We prove that a homogeneous $(α, β)$-metrics has i…

In this note, we show that the examples of non Berwaldian Landsberg surfaces with vanishing flag curvature, obtained in \cite{Zhou}, are in fact Berwaldian. Consequently, Bryant's claim is still unverified.
In this paper, we study left invariant conic Finsler metrics on the 2-dimensional non-Abelian Lie group $G$ with nowhere vanishing spray vector fields, and classify those satisfying the constant curvature condition, the Landsberg condition or the Berwald condition respectively. We prove that any left invariant conic Landsberg metric on $G$ must be Berwald. This discovery enable us to propose a homogeneous conic Landsberg Conjecture, which guesses that every homogeneous conic Landsberg metric is Berwald, and prove the 2-dimensional case for it.
In the present paper, we find out necessary and sufficient conditions for a Finsler surface $(M,F)$ to be Landsbregian in terms of the Berwald curvature $2$-forms. We study Finsler surfaces which satisfy some flag curvature $K$ conditions, viz., $V(K)=0,\,\,V(K)= -\mathcal{I}/F^2$ and $V(K)=-\mathcal{I}\,K,$ where $\mathcal{I}$ is the Cartan scalar. In order to do so, we investigate some geometric objects associated with the global Berwald distribution $\mathcal{D}:= \operatorname{span}\{S, H, V:=JH\}$ of a $2$-dimensional Finsler metrizable nonflat spray $S$. We obtain some classifications of…
Let $F$ be a homogeneous $(α_1,α_2)$ metric on the reductive homogeneous manifold $G/H$. Firstly, we characterize the natural reductiveness of $F$ as a local $f$-product between naturally reductive Riemannian metrics. Secondly, we prove the equivalence among several properties of $F$ for its mean Berwald curvature and S-curvature. Finally, we find an explicit flag curvature formula when $F$ is naturally reductive.
Every Finsler metric naturally induces a spray but not so for the converse. The notion for sprays of scalar (resp. isotropic) curvature has been known as a generalization for Finsler metrics of scalar (resp. isotropic) flag curvature. In this paper, a new notion, sprays of constant curvature, is introduced and especially it shows that a spray of isotropic curvature is not necessarily of constant curvature even in dimension $n\ge3$. Further, complete conditions are given for sprays of isotropic (resp. constant) curvature to be Finsler-metrizabile. As applications of such a result, the local str…
We use two non-Riemannian curvature tensors, the $χ$-curvature and the mean Berwald curvature to characterise a class of Finsler metrics admitting first integrals.
We prove that in a Finsler manifold with vanishing $χ$-curvature (in particular with constant flag curvature) some non-Riemannian geometric structures are geodesically invariant and hence they induce a set of non-Riemannian first integrals. Two alternative expressions of these first integrals can be obtained either in terms of the mean Berwald curvature, or as functions of the mean Cartan torsion and the mean Landsberg curvature.
We relate the (non)existence of lower scalar curvature bounds to the existence of certain distance-decreasing maps. We also give a sufficient condition for the existence of a limiting scalar curvature measure in the backward limit of a Ricci flow solution.
We study the properties of the $n$-volumic scalar curvature in this note. Lott-Sturm-Villani's curvature-dimension condition ${\rm CD}(κ,n)$ was showed to imply Gromov's $n$-volumic scalar curvature $\geq nκ$ under an additional $n$-dimensional condition and we show the stability of $n$-volumic scalar curvature $\geq κ$ with respect to smGH-convergence. Then we propose a new weighted scalar curvature on the weighted Riemannian manifold and show its properties.
