We study the ground state phase diagram of a nonlinear two-photon Rabi-Hubbard (RH) model in one dimension using quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations. Our model includes a nonlinear photon-photon interaction term. Absent this term, the RH model has only one phase, the normal disordered phase, and suffers from spectral collapse at larger values of the photon-qubit interaction or inter-cavity photon hopping. The photon-photon interaction, no matter how small, stabilizes the system which now exhibits {\it two} quantum phase transitions: Normal phase to {\it photon pair} superfluid (PSF) transition and PSF to single particle superfluid (SPSF). The discrete $Z_4$ symmetry of the Hamiltonian spontaneously breaks in two stages: First it breaks partially as the system enters the PSF and then completely breaks when the system finally enters the SPSF phase. We show detailed numerical results supporting this, and map out the ground state phase diagram.
We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional attractive Fermi-Hubbard model with spin-dependent hoppings and an on-site Rabi coupling using the density matrix renormalization group method. In particular, we show that even in the limit of one component being immobile the pair superfluidity can be resonantly enhanced when the Rabi coupling is on the order of the interaction strength just before the system starts to strongly polarize. We derive an effective spin-1/2 XXZ model in order to understand the ground-state properties in the strong attraction limit.
We report the experimental observation of superradiant emission emanating from an elongated dense ensemble of laser cooled two-level atoms, with a radial extent smaller than the transition wavelength. In the presence of a strong driving laser, we observe that the system is superradiant along its symmmetry axis. This occurs even though the driving laser is orthogonal to the superradiance direction. This superradiance modifies the spontaneous emission, and, resultantly, the Rabi oscillations. We also investigate Dicke superradiance in the emission of an almost fully-inverted system as a function…

Fermi-Hubbard system with a periodically-modulated interaction has been recently shown to resonantly absorb energy at series of drive frequencies. In the present work, with the help of static perturbation theory we argue that driving couples to Hubbard bands in a similar fashion as classical field couples to the two-level atom. The later, significantly simpler set-up described by the Rabi model is known to support resonant energy absorption at virtually the same series of driving frequencies. Our interpretation is also supported by showing that dynamics of the two-site periodically-driven Hubb…
Extended Hubbard models have proven to bear novel quantum states, but their experimental realization remains challenging. In this work we propose to use bosonic quantum gases dressed with molecular bound states in Rydberg interaction potentials for the observation of these quantum states. We study the molecular Rabi coupling with respect to principal quantum number and trapping frequency of the ground state atoms for various molecular potentials of Rubidium and Potassium, and the hereby resulting dressed interaction strength. Additionally, we propose a two-color excitation scheme which signifi…
The spontaneously broken of translational symmetry is usually due to the competition between local interactions and long-range interactions. However, in this paper, we show how a crystalline order can be generated by the competition between local interaction and long-range correlation by frustration. Here we propose a positive hopping Bose Hubbard model on triangle lattices with a pair creation term which comes from frustrated linked cavity arrays with degenerate quantum gases in them. We find by increasing the strength of pair creation term against local interaction strength, two kinds of den…
In this paper, we study a system of two-component Bose gas in an artificial magnetic field trapped by concentric harmonic and annular potentials, respectively. The system is realized by gases with two-internal states like the hyperfine states of $^{87}$Rb. We are interested in effects of a Rabi oscillation between them. Two-component Bose Hubbard model is introduced to describe the system, and Gross-Pitaevskii equations are used to study the system. We first study the Bose gas system in the annular trap by varying the width of the annulus and strength of the magnetic field, in particular, we f…

We investigate the nonlinear light-matter interaction of a Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in an external periodic potential inside an optical cavity which is weakly coupled to vacuum radiation modes and driven by a transverse pump field. Based on a generalized Bose-Hubbard model which incorporates a single cavity mode, we include the collective backaction of the atoms on the cavity light field and determine the nonequilibrium quantum phases within the nonperturbative bosonic dynamical mean-field theory. With the system parameters adapted to recent experiments, we find a quantum phase transiti…
The effect of disorder in the intensity of the driving laser on a coupled array of cavities described by a Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian for dark-state polaritons is investigated. A canonically-transformed Gutzwiller wave function is used to investigate the phase diagram and dynamics of a one-dimensional system with uniformly distributed disorder in the Rabi frequency. In the phase diagram, we find the emergence of a Bose glass phase that increases in extent as the strength of the disorder increases. We study the dynamics of the system when subject to a ramp in the Rabi frequency which, starting fr…
We experimentally investigate the phase winding dynamics of a harmonically trapped two-component BEC subject to microwave induced Rabi oscillations between two pseudospin components. While the single particle dynamics can be explained by mapping the system to a two-component Bose-Hubbard model, nonlinearities due to the interatomic repulsion lead to new effects observed in the experiments: In the presence of a linear magnetic field gradient, a qualitatively stable moving magnetic order that is similar to antiferromagnetic order is observed after critical winding is achieved. We also demonstrat…
We study the effect of decoherence on dynamical phase diffusion in the two-site Bose-Hubbard model. Starting with an odd parity excited coherent state, the initial loss of single particle coherence varies from small bound oscillations in the Rabi regime, through hyperbolic depletion in the Josephson regime, to a Gaussian decay in the Fock regime. The inclusion of local-site noise, measuring the relative number difference between the modes, is shown to enhance phase-diffusion. In comparison, site-indiscriminate noise measuring the population imbalance between the two quasi-momentum modes, slows…
We study atomic Josephson junctions (AJJs) with one and two bosonic species confined by a double-well potential. Proceeding from the second quantized Hamiltonian, we show that it is possible to describe the zero-temperature AJJs microscopic dynamics by means of extended Bose-Hubbard (EBH) models, which include usually-neglected nonlinear terms. Within the mean-field approximation, the Heisenberg equations derived from such two-mode models provide a description of AJJs macroscopic dynamics in terms of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We discuss the possibility to distinguish the Rabi, Jo…
