We report high quality, Halpha or CO rotation curves (RCs) to several Re for 41 large, massive, star-forming disk galaxies (SFGs), across the peak of cosmic galaxy evolution (z~0.67-2.45), taken with the ESO-VLT, the LBT and IRAM-NOEMA. Most RC41 SFGs have reflection symmetric RCs plausibly described by equilibrium dynamics. We fit the major axis position-velocity cuts with beam-convolved, forward modeling with a bulge, a turbulent rotating disk, and a dark matter (DM) halo. We include priors for stellar and molecular gas masses, optical light effective radii and inclinations, and DM masses from abundance matching scaling relations. Two-thirds or more of the z>1.2 SFGs are baryon dominated within a few Re of typically 5.5 kpc, and have DM fractions less than maximal disks (<fDM (Re)>=0.12). At lower redshift (z<1.2) that fraction is less than one-third. DM fractions correlate inversely with the baryonic angular momentum parameter, baryonic surface density and bulge mass. Inferred low DM fractions cannot apply to the entire disk & halo but more plausibly reflect a flattened, or cored, inner DM density distribution. The typical central 'DM deficit' in these cores relative to NFW distributions is ~30% of the bulge mass. The observations are consistent with rapid radial transport of baryons in the first generation massive gas rich halos forming globally gravitationally unstable disks, and leading to efficient build-up of massive bulges and central black holes. A combination of heating due to dynamical friction and AGN feedback may drive DM out of the initial cusps.
We analyze the a set of seventeen rotation curves of Low Surface Brightness (LSB) galaxies from the The HI Nearby Galaxy Survey (THINGS) with different mass models to study the core structure and to determine a phase transition energy scale (E_c) between hot and cold dark matter, due to nonperturbative effects in the Bound Dark Matter (BDM) model. Our results agree with previous ones implying the cored profiles are preferred over the N-body motivated cuspy NFW profile. We find an average galactic core radius of r_c = 260 \times 10^{+/- 1.3} pc and a phase transition energy E_c = 0.11\times 10^…
We show that Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) predict distinct galactic acceleration curve geometries in $g2$-space - the space of total observed centripetal accelerations $g_{\rm tot}$ vs the inferred Newtonian acceleration from baryonic matter $g_{\rm N}$ - and corresponding rotation speed curves: MOND modified gravity predicts cored geometries for isolated galaxies while MOND modified inertia yields neutral geometries, ie. neither cuspy or cored, based on a cusp-core classification of galaxy rotation curve geometry in $g2$-space - rather than on inferred DM density profiles. The classific…
The presence of blue cores in some dwarf early-type galaxies (dEs) in galaxy clusters suggests the scenario of late-type galaxy infall and subsequent transformation into red, quiescent dEs. We present Gemini Multi-Object Spectrographs long-slit spectroscopy of two dEs with blue cores (dE(bc)s), EVCC 591 and EVCC 516, located at the core and outskirt of the Virgo cluster, respectively. We obtained their internal kinematics along the major axis out to, at least, ~ 1 effective radius. EVCC 591 shows evidence of a kinematically decoupled core (KDC) with a size of 2" (160 pc), exhibiting an inverte…
The ratio of baryonic-to-dark matter in present-day galaxies constrains galaxy formation theories and can be determined empirically via the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation (BTFR), which compares a galaxy's baryonic mass (Mbary) to its maximum rotation velocity (Vmax). The BTFR is well-determined at Mbary >10^8 Msun, but poorly constrained at lower masses due to small samples and the challenges of measuring rotation velocities in this regime. For 25 galaxies with high-quality data and Mbary <~10^8 Msun, we estimate Mbary from infrared and HI observations and Vmax from the HI gas rotation. Many o…
We modify the chemo-dynamical code GEAR to simulate the impact of self-interacting dark matter on the observable quantities of 19 low mass dwarf galaxies with a variety star forming properties. We employ a relatively high, velocity independent cross-section of $σ/m = 10$cm$^2$/g and extract, in addition to integrated quantities, the total mass density profile, the luminosity profile, the line-of-sight velocities, the chemical abundance and the star formation history. We find that despite the creation of large cores at the centre of the dark matter haloes, the impact of SIDM on the observable q…
Galactic rotation curves are a fundamental constraint for any cosmological model. We use controlled N-body simulations of galaxies to study the gravitational effect of baryons in a scenario with collisionless cold dark matter (CDM) versus one with a self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) component. In particular, we examine the inner profiles of the rotation curves in the velocity range Vmax = 30-250 km/s, whose diversity has been found to be greater than predicted by the Lambda-CDM scenario. We find that the scatter in the observed rotation curves exceeds that predicted by dark matter only mass-…
In this article we investigate the outer and inner mass distributions of the irregular galaxies UGC 4284 and UGC 11861, taking advantage of published HI and Hα high resolution rotation curves and constraining the stellar disk of both galaxies throughout stellar population synthesis studies. In addition we take into account the gas content of both galaxies deriving the HI+He rotation curve. The deduced baryonic rotation curves (star+gas) are inadequate to account for the total mass of UGC 4284 and UGC 11861, for that reason we examine the possibility of dark matter to explain the incongruity be…
We present multi-tracer dynamical models of the low mass ($M_{*} \sim 10^{7}$), isolated dwarf irregular galaxy WLM in order to simultaneously constrain the inner slope of the dark matter (DM) halo density profile ($γ$) and flattening ($q_\mathrm{DM}$), and the stellar orbital anisotropy ($β_{z}, β_{r}$). For the first time, we show how jointly constraining the mass distribution from the HI gas rotation curve and solving the Jeans' equations with discrete stellar kinematics leads to a factor of $\sim2$ reduction in the uncertainties on $γ$. The mass-anisotropy degeneracy is also partially brok…
We study the impact of merging supermassive black holes (SMBHs) on the central regions of massive early-type galaxies (ETGs) using a series of merger simulations with varying mass ratios. The ETG models include realistic stellar and dark matter components and are evolved with the GADGET based regularized tree code KETJU. We show that observed key properties of the nuclear stellar populations of massive ETGs, namely flat stellar density distributions (cores), tangentially biased velocity distributions and kinematically decoupled (counter-)rotation can naturally result from a single process $-$ …
We analyze Ha or CO rotation curves (RCs) extending out to several galaxy effective radii for 100 massive, large, star-forming disk galaxies (SFGs) across the peak of cosmic galaxy star formation (z~0.6-2.5), more than doubling the previous sample presented by Genzel et al. (2020) and Price et al. (2021). The observations were taken with SINFONI and KMOS integral-field spectrographs at ESO-VLT, LUCI at LBT, NOEMA at IRAM, and ALMA. We fit the major axis kinematics with beam-convolved, forward models of turbulent rotating disks with bulges embedded in dark matter (DM) halos, including the effec…

We derive the mass model of the Milky Way (MW) using a cored dark matter (DM) halo profile and recent data. The method used consists in fitting a spherically symmetric model of the Galaxy with a Burkert DM halo profile to available data: MW terminal velocities in the region inside the solar circle, circular velocity as recently estimated from maser star forming regions at intermediate radii, and velocity dispersions of stellar halo tracers for the outermost Galactic region. The latter are reproduced by integrating the Jeans equation for every modeled mass distribution, and by allowing for diff…
\textbf{GalRotpy} is an educational \verb+Python3+-based visual tool, which is useful to undestand how is the contribution of each mass component to the gravitational potential of disc-like galaxies by means of their rotation curve. Besides, \textbf{GalRotpy} allows the user to perform a parametric fit of a given rotation curve, which relies on a MCMC procedure implemented by using \verb+emcee+ package. Here the gravitational potential of disc-like galaxies is built from the contribution of a Miyamoto-Nagai potential model for the bulge/core and the thin/thick disc, an exponential disc, togeth…
The steepness of the central density profiles of dark matter (DM) in low-mass galaxy halos (e.g. dwarf galaxies) is a powerful probe of the nature of DM. We propose a novel scheme to probe the inner profiles of galaxy subhalos using stellar streams. We show that the present day morphological and dynamical properties of accreted globular cluster (GC) streams - those produced from tidal stripping of GCs that initially evolved within satellite galaxies and later merged with the Milky Way (MW) - are sensitive to the central DM density profile and mass of their parent satellites. GCs that accrete w…
We investigate the influence of the nonextensive q-statistics and kinetic theory on galactic scales through the analysis of a devised sample of Spiral Rotation Curves. Largely supported by recent developments on the foundations of statistical mechanics and a plethora of astrophysical applications, the theory also provides an alternative interpretation to the empirical cored dark matter profiles observed in galaxies. We show that the observations could well be fitted with reasonable values for the mass model parameters, encouraging further investigation into q-statistcs on the distribution of d…
In this work we study the mass distribution of two irregular galaxies, UGC 6446 and UGC 7524, by means of HI rotation curves derived from high resolution HI velocity fields obtained through the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope data archive. We constrain the stellar and gas content of both galaxies with stellar population synthesis models and by deriving the HI+He+metals rotation curves from the total HI surface density maps, respectively. The discrepancy between the circular velocity maxima of the stellar plus the HI+He+metals rotation curves and the observed HI rotation curves of both gal…
We conducted the astrometry of H2O masers in the Galactic star-forming region Onsala 1 (ON1) with VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry (VERA). We measured a trigonometric parallax of 0.404+/-0.017 mas, corresponding to a distance of 2.47+/-0.11 kpc. ON1 is appeared to be located near the tangent point at the Galactic longitude of 69.54 deg. We estimate the angular velocity of the Galactic rotation at Sun, the ratio of the distance from Sun to the Galactic center and the Galactic rotation velocity at Sun, to be 28.7+/-1.3 km/s/kpc using the measured distance and proper motion of ON1. This value…
The stellar and gaseous mass distributions, as well as the extended rotation curve in the nearby galaxy M33 are used to derive the radial distribution of dark matter density in the halo and to test cosmological models of galaxy formation and evolution. Two methods are examined to constrain dark mass density profiles. The first method deals directly with fitting the rotation curve data in the range of galactocentric distances $0.24\,\text{kpc}\leq r\leq22.72\,\text{kpc}.$ As found in a previous paper by \citet{Corbelli:2014lga}, and using the results of collisionless $Λ-$Cold Dark Matter numeri…
Angular momentum plays a crucial role in the formation of stars and planets. It has long been noticed that parcels of gas in molecular clouds need to reduce their specific angular momentum by 6 to 7 orders of magnitude to participate in the building of a typical star like the Sun. Several physical processes on different scales and at different stages of evolution can contribute to this loss of angular momentum. In order to set constraints on these processes and better understand this transfer of angular momentum, a detailed observational census and characterization of rotation at all stages of…
We study the evolution of gas rotation curves within the scalar field dark matter (SFDM) model. In this model the galactic haloes are astronomical Bose-Einstein Condensate drops of scalar field. These haloes are characterized by a constant-density core and are consistent with observed rotation curves of dark matter dominated galaxies, a missing feature in CDM haloes resulting from DM-only simulations. We add the baryonic component to the SFDM haloes and simulate the evolution of the dark matter tracer in a set of grid-based hydrodynamic simulations aimed to analyse the evolution of the rotatio…
We investigate the properties of the baryonic and the dark matter components in low surface brightness (LSB) disc galaxies, with central surface brightness in the B band $μ_0 \geq 23 \, mag \, arcsec^{-2}$. The sample is composed by 72 objects, whose rotation curves show an orderly trend reflecting the idea of a universal rotation curve (URC) similar to that found in the local high surface brightness (HSB) spirals in previous works. This curve relies on the mass modelling of the coadded rotation curves, involving the contribution from an exponential stellar disc and a Burkert cored dark matter…
We analyse maps of the spatially-resolved nebular emission of $\approx$1500 star-forming galaxies at $z\approx0.6$-$2.2$ from deep KMOS and MUSE observations to measure the average shape of their rotation curves. We use these to test claims for declining rotation curves at large radii in galaxies at $z\approx1$-$2$ that have been interpreted as evidence for an absence of dark matter. We show that the shape of the average rotation curves, and the extent to which they decline beyond their peak velocities, depends upon the normalisation prescription used to construct the average curve. Normalisin…
We investigate a sub-sample of the rotation curves consisting of 45 HSB non-bulgy spiral galaxies selected from SPARC (Spitzer Photometry and Accurate Rotation Curves) database by using two dark halo models (NFW and Burkert) and MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) theory. Among these three models, the core-dominated Burkert halo model provides a better description of the observed data ($χ_ν^2$ = 0.33) than Navarro, Frenk and White (NFW, $χ_ν^2$= 0.45) and MOND model ($χ_ν^2$ = 0.58). So our results show that, for dark halo models, the selected 45 HSB non-bulgy spiral galaxies prefer a cored den…
Modern understanding of dust astrophysics reveals that RAdiative Torques (RATs) arising from the radiation-dust interaction can induce two fundamental effects, including grain alignment and rotational disruption. Here we review the recent progress in the theoretical development and observational testing of these effects using dust polarization observed toward star-forming regions (SFRs). We first review the basic theory of the RAT alignment and RAT disruption, which are referred to as RAT-A and RAT-D effects, respectively. We then briefly describe the numerical method we use to model polarized…
In this paper we derive a novel circular velocity relation for a test particle in a 3D gravitational potential applicable to every system of curvilinear coordinates, suitable to be reduced to orthogonal form. As an illustration of the potentiality of the determined circular velocity expression we perform the rotation curves analysis of UGC 8490 and UGC 9753 and we estimate the total and dark matter mass of these two galaxies under the assumption that their respective dark matter halos have spherical, prolate and oblate spheroidal mass distributions. We employ stellar population synthesis model…
The study of the evolution of star-forming galaxies requires the determination of accurate kinematics and scaling relations out to high redshift. In this paper we select a sample of 18 galaxies at z~1, observed in the H-alpha emission-line with KMOS, to derive accurate kinematics using a novel 3D analysis technique. We use the new code 3D-Barolo, that models the galaxy emission directly in the 3D observational space, without the need to extract kinematic maps. This technique's major advantage is that it is not affected by beam smearing and thus it enables the determination of rotation velocity…
We have studied a sample of more than 25 000 young stars with proper motions and trigonometric parallaxes from the Gaia DR2 catalogue. The relative errors of their parallaxes do not exceed 10\%. The selection of stars belonging to active star-forming regions was made by Marton et al. based on data from the Gaia DR2 catalogue by invoking infrared measurements from the WISE and Planck catalogues. Low-mass T Tauri stars constitute the majority of sample stars. The following parameters of the angular velocity of Galactic rotation have been found from them: $Ω_0 =28.40\pm0.11$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}…
In chameleon $f(R)$-gravity, the fifth force will lead to `upturns' in galaxy rotation curves near the screening radius. The location of the upturn depends on the cosmic background value of the scalar field $f_{R0}$, as well as the mass, size and environment of the galaxy. We search for this signature of modified gravity in the SPARC sample of measured rotation curves, using an MCMC technique to derive constraints on $f_{R0}$. Assuming NFW dark matter haloes and with $f_{R0}$ freely varying for each galaxy, most galaxies prefer $f(R)$ gravity to $Λ$CDM, but there is a large spread of inferred …
We use a compilation of disc galaxy rotation curves to assess the role of the luminous component ("baryons") in the rotation curve diversity problem. As in earlier work, we find that rotation curve shape correlates with baryonic surface density: high surface density galaxies have rapidly-rising rotation curves consistent with cuspy cold dark matter halos; slowly-rising rotation curves (characteristic of galaxies with inner mass deficits or "cores") occur only in low surface density galaxies. The correlation, however, seems too weak to be the main driver of the diversity. In addition, dwarf gal…
We investigate the shape of the Rotation Curves (RCs) of $z\sim 1$ star-forming galaxies and compare them with the local star-forming galaxies. For this purpose, we have used $409$ galaxies from the K-band Multi-Object Spectrograph (KMOS) for Redshift One Spectroscopic Survey (KROSS). This sample covers the redshift range $0.57\leq z \leq 1.04$, effective radii $0.69 \leq R_e \left[kpc \right] \leq 7.73$, absolute H-band magnitude $-24.46 \leq M_H \leq -18.85$ with median stellar mass $log\left(M_* \ \left[M_\odot \right]\right)=9.95$ and median total star-formation rate $log\left(SFR_{tot} \ …
A photon dominated region (PDR) is one of the leading candidate mechanisms for the origin of the warm CO gas with near universal $\sim$300~K rotational temperature inferred from the CO emission detected towards embedded protostars by Herschel/PACS. We have developed a PDR model in general coordinates, where we can use the most adequate coordinate system for an embedded protostar having outflow cavity walls, to solve chemistry and gas energetics self-consistently for given UV radiation fields with different spectral shapes. Simple 1D tests and applications show that FIR mid-$J$ ($14\leq J\leq 2…
This paper is devoted to solve the galactic rotation problem for ESO138-G014 galaxy based on two theories: dark matter and Modified Newtonian Dynamics. Here we did the rotation curve analysis with two possible choices for the dark matter density profile, namely Burkert and Navarro, Frenk and White profiles. The analysis shows the dark matter distribution favored to Burkert profile (cored dark matter). The standard hypothesis for most spiral galaxies are known to be embedded in dark matter haloes has now been overshadowed by Modified Newtonian Dynamics, known as MOND, the leading alternative of…
We exploit the deep resolved Halpha kinematic data from the KMOS^3D and SINS/zC-SINF surveys to examine the largely unexplored outer disk kinematics of star-forming galaxies (SFGs) out to the peak of cosmic star formation. Our sample contains 101 SFGs representative of the more massive (9.3 < log(M*/Msun) < 11.5) main sequence population at 0.6<z<2.6. Through a novel stacking approach we are able to constrain a representative rotation curve extending out to ~4 effective radii. This average rotation curve exhibits a significant drop in rotation velocity beyond the turnover, with a slope of Delt…
We derive rotation curves, surface brightness profiles, and oxygen abundance distributions for 147 late-type galaxies using the publicly available spectroscopy obtained by the MaNGA survey. Changes of the central oxygen abundance (O/H)_0, the abundance at the optical radius (O/H)_R25, and the abundance gradient with rotation velocity V_rot are examined for galaxies with rotation velocities from 90 km/s to 350 km/s. We found that each relation shows a break at V_rot^* ~200 km/s. The central (O/H)_0 abundance increases with rising V_rot and the slope of the (O/H)_0 - V_rot relation is steeper fo…
We conducted astrometric VLBI observations of water-vapor maser emission in the massive star forming region IRAS 21379+5106 to measure the annual parallax and proper motion, using VERA. The annual parallax was measured to be $0.262 \pm 0.031$ mas corresponding to a trigonometric distance of $3.82^{+0.51}_{-0.41}$ kpc. The proper motion was $(μ_α\cosδ, μ_δ)=(-2.74 \pm 0.08, -2.87 \pm 0.18)$ mas yr$^{-1}$. Using this result, the Galactic rotational velocity was estimated to be $V_θ=218\pm 19$ km s$^{-1}$ at the Galactocentric distance $R=9.22\pm0.43$ kpc, when we adopted the Galactic constants $…
Following a number of conflicting studies of M87's mass profile, we undertake a dynamical analysis of multiple tracer populations to constrain its mass over a large radius range. We combine stellar kinematics in the central regions with the dynamics of 612 globular clusters out to 200 kpc and satellite galaxies extending to scales comparable with the virial radius. Using a spherical Jeans analysis, we are able to disentangle the mass contributions from the dark and baryonic components and set constraints on the structure of each. Assuming isotropy, we explore four different models for the dark…
We explore the effect of different galactic disc environments on the properties of star-forming clouds through variations in the background potential in a set of isolated galaxy simulations. Rising, falling and flat rotation curves expected in halo dominated, disc dominated and Milky Way-like galaxies were considered, with and without an additional two-arm spiral potential. The evolution of each disc displayed notable variations that are attributed to different regimes of stability, determined by shear and gravitational collapse. The properties of a typical cloud were largely unaffected by the…
We present the first simulations of tidal stirring of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group carried out in a cosmological context. We use the ErisDARK simulation of a MW-sized galaxy to identify some of the most massive subhalos ($M_{vir} > 10^8 M_{\odot}$) that fall into the main host before $z=2$. Subhalos are replaced before infall with high-resolution models of dwarf galaxies comprising a faint stellar disk embedded in a dark matter halo. The set of models contains cuspy halos as well as halos with "cored" profiles (with asymptotic inner slope $γ= 0.6$). The simulations are then run to $z=0$ w…
We present dynamical measurements from the KMOS (K-band Multi-Object Spectrograph) Deep Survey (KDS), which is comprised of 77 typical star-forming galaxies at z $\simeq$ 3.5 in the mass range 9.0 < log(M$_{\star}$/M$_{\odot}$) < 10.5. These measurements constrain the internal dynamics, the intrinsic velocity dispersions (σ$_{int}$) and rotation velocities (V$_{C}$) of galaxies in the high redshift Universe. The mean velocity dispersion of the galaxies in our sample is σ$_{int}$ = $70.8^{+3.3}_{-3.1}$ km s$^{-1}$, revealing that the increasing average σ$_{int}$ with increasing redshift, report…
The study of the rotation curves of spiral galaxies reveals a nearly constant cored density distribution of Cold Dark Matter. N-body simulations however lead to a cuspy distribution on the galactic scale, with a central peak. A Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of light particles naturally solves this problem by predicting a repulsive force, obstructing the formation of the peak. After succinctly presenting the BEC model, we test it against rotation curve data for a set of 3 High Surface Brightness (HSB), 3 Low Surface Brightness (LSB) and 3 dwarf galaxies. The BEC model gives a similar fit to th…
While the kinematics of galaxies up to z~3 have been characterized in detail, only a handful of galaxies at high redshift (z>4) have been examined in such a way. The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Large Program to INvestigate [CII] at Early times (ALPINE) survey observed a statistically significant sample of 118 star-forming main sequence galaxies at z=4.4-5.9 in [CII]158um emission, increasing the number of such observations by nearly 10x. A preliminary qualitative classification of these sources revealed a diversity of kinematic types (i.e., rotators, mergers, and disper…
We construct a suite of discrete chemo-dynamical models of the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 5846. These models are a powerful tool to constrain both the mass distribution and internal dynamics of multiple tracer populations. We use Jeans models to simultaneously fit stellar kinematics within the effective radius $R_{\rm e}$, planetary nebula (PN) radial velocities out to $3\, R_{\rm e}$, and globular cluster (GC) radial velocities and colours out to $6\,R_{\rm e}$. The best-fitting model is a cored DM halo which contributes $\sim 10\%$ of the total mass within $1\,R_{\rm e}$, and $67\% \pm 10\%…
I review the current status of dynamical modelling of dwarf spheroidal galaxies focusing on estimates of their dark matter content. Starting with the simplest methods using the velocity dispersion profiles I discuss the inherent issues of mass-anisotropy degeneracy and contamination by unbound stars. I then move on to methods of increasing complexity, aiming to break the degeneracy, up to recent applications of the Schwarzschild orbit superposition method. The dynamical modelling is placed in the context of possible scenarios for the formation of dwarf spheroidal galaxies, including the tidal …
We study the role of systematic effects in observational studies of the cusp-core problem under the minimum disc approximation using a suite of high-resolution (25-pc softening length) hydrodynamical simulations of dwarf galaxies. We mimic realistic kinematic observations and fit the mock rotation curves with two analytic models commonly used to differentiate cores from cusps in the dark matter distribution. We find that the cored pseudo-isothermal sphere (ISO) model is strongly favoured by the reduced $χ^2_ν$ of the fits in spite of the fact that our simulations contain cuspy Navarro-Frenk-Wh…
We perform a kinematic and morphological analysis of 44 star-forming galaxies at $z\sim2$ in the COSMOS legacy field using near-infrared spectroscopy from Keck/MOSFIRE and F160W imaging from CANDELS/3D-HST as part of the ZFIRE survey. Our sample consists of cluster and field galaxies from $2.0 < z < 2.5$ with K band multi-object slit spectroscopic measurements of their H$α$ emission lines. H$α$ rotational velocities and gas velocity dispersions are measured using the Heidelberg Emission Line Algorithm (HELA), which compares directly to simulated 3D data-cubes. Using a suite of simulated emissi…
We report the discovery of infalling motion with rotation of S235AB the massive cluster-forming clump (~10^3 Mo) in the S235 region. Our C18O observations with the 45m telescope at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory have revealed the elliptical shape of the clump. Position-velocity (PV) diagram taken along its major axis exhibits two well-defined peaks symmetrically located with respect to the clump center, which is similar to that found for a dynamically infalling envelope with rotation around a single protostar modeled by N. Ohashi and his collaborators, indicating that the cluster-forming clump…
Using integral field spectroscopy we investigate the kinematic properties of 35 massive centrally-dense and compact star-forming galaxies (${\log{\overline{M}_*}}=11.1$, $\log{(Σ_\mathrm{1kpc})}>9.5$, $\log{(M_\ast/r_e^{1.5})}>10.3$) at $z\sim0.7-3.7$ within the KMOS$^\mathrm{3D}$survey. We spatially resolve 23 compact star-forming galaxies (SFGs) and find that the majority are dominated by rotational motions with velocities ranging from {$95-500$ km s$^{-1}$}. The range of rotation velocities is reflected in a similar range of integrated H$α$ linewidths, $75-400$ km s$^{-1}$, consistent with …
Recently a new particle physics model called Bound Dark Matter (BDM) has been proposed in which dark matter (DM) particles are massless above a threshold energy (Ec) and acquire mass below it due to nonperturbative methods. Therefore, the BDM model describes DM particles which are relativistic, hot dark matter, in the inner regions of galaxies and describes nonrelativistic, cold dark matter, where halo density is below rho_c = Ec^4. To realize this idea in galaxies we use a particular DM cored profile that contains three parameters: a scale length (rs) and density (rho_0) of the halo, and a co…
We report on two regularly rotating galaxies at redshift z=2, using high resolution spectra of the bright [CII] 158 micron emission line from the HIFI instrument on the Herschel Space Observatory. Both SDSS090122.37+181432.3 ("S0901") and SDSS J120602.09+514229.5 ("the Clone") are strongly lensed and show the double-horned line profile that is typical of rotating gas disks. Using a parametric disk model to fit the emission line profiles, we find that S0901 has a rotation speed v sin(i) = 120 +/- 7 km/s and gas velocity dispersion sigma < 23 km/s. The best fitting model for the Clone is a rotat…
We compare the molecular and ionized gas kinematics of two strongly lensed galaxies at $z\sim1$ based on observations from ALMA and MUSE. We derive the CO and [OII] rotation curves and dispersion profiles of these two galaxies. We find a difference between the observed molecular and ionized gas rotation curves for one of the galaxies, the Cosmic Snake, for which we obtain a spatial resolution of few hundred parsecs along the major axis. The rotation curve of the molecular gas is steeper than the rotation curve of the ionized gas. In the second galaxy, A521, the molecular and ionized gas rotati…
We measured the trigonometric annual parallax of H$_2$O maser source associated with the massive star-forming regions IRAS 06061+2151 with VERA. The annual parallax of $0.496\pm0.031$ mas corresponding to a distance of $2.02^{+0.13}_{-0.12}$ kpc was obtained by 10 epochs of observations from 2007 October to 2009 September. This distance was obtained with a higher accuracy than the photometric distance previously measured, and places IRAS 06061+2151 in the Perseus spiral arm. We found that IRAS 06061+2151 also has a peculiar motion of larger than 15 km s$^{-1}$ counter to the Galactic rotation.…
We present a follow-up analysis examining the dynamics and structures of 41 massive, large star-forming galaxies at z~0.67-2.45 using both ionized and molecular gas kinematics. We fit the galaxy dynamics with models consisting of a bulge, a thick, turbulent disk, and a NFW dark matter halo, using code that fully forward models the kinematics, including all observational and instrumental effects. We explore the parameter space using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling, including priors based on stellar and gas masses and disk sizes. We fit the full sample using extracted 1D kinematic profi…
