We study the relation between zero loci of Bernstein-Sato ideals and roots of b-functions and obtain a criterion to guarantee that roots of b-functions of a reducible polynomial are determined by the zero locus of the associated Bernstein-Sato ideal. Applying the criterion together with a result of Maisonobe we prove that the set of roots of the b-function of a free hyperplane arrangement is determined by its intersection lattice.
We also study the zero loci of Bernstein-Sato ideals and the associated relative characteristic cycles for arbitrary central hyperplane arrangements. We prove the multivariable n/d conjecture of Budur for complete factorizations of arbitrary hyperplane arrangements, which in turn proves the strong monodromy conjecture for the associated multivariable topological zeta functions.
We compute Bernstein-Sato polynomials of some pairs of topologically equivalent plane curve singularities. Some pairs have the same Tjurina number but distinct Bernstein-Sato polynomials, which implies that they are not analytically equivalent.
We have recently proved a precise relation between Bernstein-Sato ideals of collections of polynomials and monodromy of generalized nearby cycles. In this article we extend this result to other ideals of Bernstein-Sato type.
We give estimates for the zero loci of Bernstein-Sato ideals. An upper bound is proved as a multivariate generalisation of the upper bound by Lichtin for the roots of Bernstein-Sato polynomials. The lower bounds generalise the fact that log-canonical thresholds, small jumping numbers of multiplier ideals, and their real versions provide roots of Bernstein-Sato polynomials.
We prove a conjecture of the first author relating the Bernstein-Sato ideal of a finite collection of multivariate polynomials with cohomology support loci of rank one complex local systems. This generalizes a classical theorem of Malgrange and Kashiwara relating the b-function of a multivariate polynomial with the monodromy eigenvalues on the Milnor fibers cohomology.
We define the Bernstein-Sato ideal associated to a tuple of ideals and we relate it to the jumping points of the corresponding mixed multiplier ideals.
This is an expository survey on the theory of Bernstein-Sato polynomials with special emphasis in its recent developments and its importance in commutative algebra.
The Bernstein-Sato polynomial is an important invariant of an element or an ideal in a polynomial ring or power series ring of characteristic zero, with interesting connections to various algebraic and topological aspects of the singularities of the vanishing locus. Work of Mustaţă, later extended by Bitoun and the third author, provides an analogous Bernstein-Sato theory for regular rings of positive characteristic. In this paper, we extend this theory to singular ambient rings in positive characteristic. We establish finiteness and rationality results for Bernstein-Sato roots for large class…
In this article, we investigate Maximum Likelihood Estimation with tools from Tropical Geometry and Bernstein--Sato theory. We investigate the critical points of very affine varieties and study their asymptotic behavior. We relate these asymptotics to particular rays in the tropical variety as well as to Bernstein--Sato ideals and give a connection to Maximum Likelihood Estimation in Statistics.

For strongly Euler-homogeneous, Saito-holonomic, and tame analytic germs we consider general types of multivariate Bernstein-Sato ideals associated to arbitrary factorizations of our germ. We show the zero loci of these ideals are purely codimension one and the zero loci associated to different factorizations are related by a diagonal property. If, additionally, the divisor is a hyperplane arrangement, we show the Bernstein-Sato ideals attached to a factorization into linear forms are principal. As an application, we independently verify and improve an estimate of Maisonobe's regarding standar…
Let $f$ be a semi-weighted-homogeneous polynomial having an isolated singularity at 0. Let $α_{f,k}$ be the spectral numbers of $f$ at 0. By Malgrange and Varchenko there are non-negative integers $r_k$ such that the $α_{f,k}-r_k$ are the roots up to sign of the local Bernstein-Sato polynomial $b_f(s)$ divided by $s+1$. However, it is quite difficult to determine these shifts $r_k$ explicitly on the parameter space of $μ$-constant deformation of a weighted homogeneous polynomial. Assuming the latter is nearly Brieskorn-Pham type, we can obtain a very simple algorithm to determine these shifts,…
This paper investigates the existence and properties of a Bernstein-Sato functional equation in nonregular settings. In particular, we construct $D$-modules in which such formal equations can be studied. The existence of the Bernstein-Sato polynomial for a direct summand of a polynomial over a field is proved in this context. It is observed that this polynomial can have zero as a root, or even positive roots. Moreover, a theory of $V$-filtrations is introduced for nonregular rings, and the existence of these objects is established for what we call differentially extensible summands. This famil…
