We apply the vertical Jeans equation to the kinematics of Milky Way stars in the solar neighbourhood to measure the local dark matter density. More than 90,000 G- and K-type dwarf stars are selected from the cross-matched sample of LAMOST DR5 and Gaia DR2 for our analyses. The mass models applied consist of a single exponential stellar disc, a razor thin gas disc and a constant dark matter density. We first consider the simplified vertical Jeans equation which ignores the tilt term and assumes a flat rotation curve. Under a Gaussian prior on the total stellar surface density, the local dark matter density inferred from Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations is $0.0133_{-0.0022}^{+0.0024}\ {\rm M}_{\odot}\,{\rm pc}^{-3}$. The local dark matter densities for subsamples in an azimuthal angle range of $-10^{\circ} < ϕ< 5^{\circ}$ are consistent within their 1$σ$ errors. However, the northern and southern subsamples show a large discrepancy due to plateaux in the northern and southern vertical velocity dispersion profiles. These plateaux may be the cause of the different estimates of the dark matter density between the north and south. Taking the tilt term into account has little effect on the parameter estimations and does not explain the north and south asymmetry. Taking half of the difference of $σ_{z}$ profiles as unknown systematic errors, we then obtain consistent measurements for the northern and southern subsamples. We discuss the influence of the vertical data range, the scale height of the tracer population, the vertical distribution of stars and the sample size on the uncertainty of the determination of the local dark matter density.
Based on the second Gaia data release (Gaia DR2) and spectroscopy from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Data, we identified 20,089 halo stars kinematically and chemically. The halo streams in the solar neighborhood could be detected in the space of energy and angular momentum. We reshuffle the velocities of these stars to determine the significance of substructure. Finally, we identify 4 statistically significant substructures that are labeled GL-1 through 4. Among these substructures, GL-1 is previously known stream ("N2" stream) and the rest 3 substructu…
Based on the second Gaia data (Gaia DR2) and spectroscopy from the LAMOST Data Release 5, we defined the high-velocity (HiVel) stars sample as those stars with $v_{\mathrm{gc}} > 0.85 v_{\mathrm{esc}}$, and derived the final sample of 24 HiVel stars with stellar astrometric parameters and radial velocities. Most of the HiVel stars are metal-poor and $α$-enhanced. In order to further explore the origin of these HiVel stars, we traced the backwards orbits of each HiVel star in the Galactic potential to derive probability parameters which are used to classify these HiVel stars. Of these, 5 stars …
We use LAMOST DR4 M giants combined with Gaia DR2 proper motions and ALLWISE photometry to obtain an extremely pure sample of Sagittarius (Sgr) stream stars. Using TiO5 and CaH spectral indices as an indicator, we selected out a large sample of M giant stars from M dwarf stars in LAMOST DR4 spectra. Considering the position, distance, proper motion and the angular momentum distribution, we obtained 164 pure Sgr stream stars. We find that the trailing arm has higher energy than the leading arm in same angular momentum. The trailing arm we detected extends to a heliocentric distance of $\sim 130…
Gaia is regularly producing Alerts on objects where photometric variability has been detected. The physical nature of these objects has often to be determined with the complementary observations from ground-based facilities. We have compared the list of Gaia Alerts (until 20181101) with archival LAMOST and SDSS spectroscopic data. The date of the ground-based observation rarely corresponds to the date of the Alert, but this allows at least the identification of the source if it is persistent, or the host galaxy if the object was only transient like a supernova. A list of Gaia Nuclear Transient…
With the photometric data from the SDSS survey, the spectroscopic data from the SDSS/SEGUE and the LAMOST surveys, and the astrometric data from the Gaia DR2, we have identified 71 highly-probable member stars of the GD-1 cold stellar stream spread along almost its entire length (i.e. from 126 to 203 degree in Right Ascension). With the accurate spectroscopic (i.e. metallicity and line-of-sight velocity) and astrometric (i.e. proper motions) information, the position-velocity diagrams, i.e. $ϕ_{1}$-$μ_α$, $ϕ_{1}$-$μ_δ$ and $ϕ_{1}$-${v_{\rm gsr}}$, of the GD-1 stream are well mapped. The stream…
In Gaia DR2, the unprecedented high-precision level reached in sub-mas for astrometry and mmag for photometry. Using cluster members identified with these astrometry and photometry in Gaia DR2, we can obtain a reliable determination of cluster properties. However, because of the shortcoming of Gaia spectroscopic observation in dealing with densely crowded cluster region, the number of radial velocity and metallicity for cluster member stars from Gaia DR2 is still lacking. In this study, we aim to improve the cluster properties by combining the LAMOST spectra. In particular, we provide the list…
By mining the data from $Gaia$ EDR3, SDSS/SEGUE DR16 and LAMOST DR8, 11 member stars of the NGC 5466 tidal stream are detected and 7 of them are newly identified. To reject contaminators, a variety of cuts are applied in sky position, color-magnitude diagram, metallicity, proper motion and radial velocity. We compare our data to a mock stream generated by modeling the cluster's disruption under a smooth Galactic potential plus the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The concordant trends in phase-space between the model and observations imply that the stream might have been perturbed by LMC. The two…
Based on the first Gaia data release and spectroscopy from the LAMOST Data Release 4, we study the kinematics and chemistry of the local halo stars. The halo stars are identified kinematically with a relative speed of at least 220 km s$^{-1}$ with respect to the local standard of rest. In total, 436 halo stars are identified. From this halo sample, 16 high velocity (HiVel) stars are identified. We studied the metallicity and [$α$/Fe] distribution of these HiVel stars. Though most of HiVel stars are metal-poor, there are several stars that have metallicity above $-0.5$ dex. To understand the or…
Using a sample of nearly 140,000 red clump stars selected from the LAMOST and Gaia Galactic surveys, we have mapped mean vertical velocity $\overline{V_{z}}$ in the $X$-$Y$ plane for a large volume of the Galactic disk (6 $< R < 16$ kpc; $-20 <ϕ< 50^{\circ}$; $|Z| < 1$ kpc). A clear signature where $\overline{V_{z}}$ increases with $R$ is detected for the chemically thin disk. The signature for the thick disk is however not significant, in line with the hot nature of this disk component. For the thin disk, the warp signature shows significant variations in both radial and azimuthal directions,…
Gaia DR3 and further releases have the potential to identify and categorise new emission-line stars in the Galaxy. We perform a comprehensive validation of astrophysical parameters from Gaia DR3 with the spectroscopically estimated emission-line star parameters from LAMOST OBA emission catalogue. We compare different astrophysical parameters provided by Gaia DR3 with those estimated using LAMOST spectra. By using a larger sample of emission-line stars, we perform a global polynomial and piece-wise linear fit to update the empirical relation to convert Gaia DR3 pseudo-equivalent width to observ…
We revisit the diagonal ridge feature (diagonal distributions in the $R, v_ϕ$ plane) found in $Gaia$ and present timing analysis for it between Galactocentric distances of $R=7.5$ and 12 \,kpc, using Main-Sequence-Turn-Off and OB stars selected from the LAMOST Galactic spectroscopic surveys. We recover the ridge pattern in the $R$--$v_ϕ$ plane color coded by mean radial velocity and find this feature is presented from very young (OB stars, few hundred \,Myr) to very old populations ($τ$ = 9$-$14 \,Gyr). Meanwhile, some ridge features are also revealed in the metallicity [Fe/H], [$α$/Fe] and $v…
The length and pattern speed of the Milky Way bar are still controversial. Photometric and spectroscopic surveys of the inner Galaxy, as well as gas kinematics, favour a long and slowly rotating bar, with corotation around a Galactocentric radius of 6 kpc. On the other hand, the existence of the Hercules stream in local velocity space favours a short and fast bar with corotation around 4 kpc. This follows from the fact that the Hercules stream looks like a typical signature of the outer Lindblad resonance of the bar. As we showed recently, reconciling this local stream with a slow bar would ne…
Super metal-rich (SMR) stars in the solar neighborhood are thought to be born in the inner disk and came to present location by radial migration, which is most intense at the co-rotation resonance (CR) of the Galactic bar. In this work, we show evidence for the CR origin of SMR stars in LAMOST-Gaia by detecting six ridges and undulations in the phi versus Lz space coded by median VR, following a similar slope of -8 km/s kpc/deg. The slope is predicted by Monario et al.'s model for CR of a large and slow Galactic bar. For the first time, we show the variation of angular momentum with azimuths f…
Moving Groups in the Solar Neighborhood with Gaia, APOGEE, GALAH, and LAMOST: Dynamical Effects Gather Gas and the Ensuing Star Formation Plays an Important Role in Shaping the Stellar Velocity Distributions
The perturbation mechanism of the Galactic disk has puzzled us for a long time. The imprints from perturbations provide important diagnostics on the disk formation and evolution. Here we try to constrain when the vertical perturbation took place in the disk by tracking the phase mixing history. Firstly, we clearly depict the spiral structures of radial ($v_R$) and azimuthal ($v_ϕ$) velocities in the phase space of the vertical position and velocity ($z$-$v_z$) with 723,871 LAMOST-Gaia combined stars. Then, we investigate the variation of the spirals with stellar age ($τ$) by dividing the sampl…
Using the LAMOST-Gaia common stars, we demonstrate that the in-plane velocity field for the nearby young stars are significantly different from that for the old ones. For the young stars, the probably perturbed velocities similar to the old population are mostly removed from the velocity maps in the $X$--$Y$ plane. The residual velocity field shows that the young stars consistently move along $Y$ with faster $v_ϕ$ at the trailing side of the local arm, while at the leading side, they move slower in azimuth direction. At both sides, the young stars averagely move inward with $v_R$ of $-5\sim-3$…

By combining LAMOST DR4 and Gaia DR2 common red clump stars with age and proper motion, we analyze the amplitude evolution of the stellar warp independently of any assumption with a simple model. The greatest height of the warp disk increases with Galactocentric distance in different populations and it is dependent on the age: the younger stellar populations exhibit stronger warp features than the old ones, accompanied with the warp amplitude $γ({\rm age})$ decreasing with age and its first derivative $\dotγ ({\rm age})$ is different from zero. The azimuth of line of nodes $ϕ_w$ is stable at $…
We investigate the three-dimensional asymmetrical kinematics and present time stamps of the Milky Way disk between Galactocentric distances of $R=12$ and 15 \,kpc, using red clump stars selected from the LAMOST Galactic survey, also with proper motion measurements provided by the Gaia DR2. We discover velocity substructure above the Galactic plane corresponding to a density dip found recently ("south-middle opposite" density structure[R $\sim$ 12-15 \,kpc, Z $\sim$ 1.5 \,kpc] discovered in \citet{Wang2018b, Wang2018c}) in the radial and azimuthal velocity. For the vertical velocity, we detect …
We have investigated the distributions of stellar azimuthal and radial velocity components $V_Φ$ and $V_{R}$ in the vertical position-velocity plane $Z$-$V_{Z}$ across the Galactic disc of $6.34 \lesssim R \lesssim 12.34$\,kpc and $|Φ| \lesssim 7.5^{\circ}$ using a Gaia and Gaia-LAMOST sample of stars. As found in previous works, the distributions exhibit significant spiral patterns. The $V_{R}$ distributions also show clear quadrupole patterns, which are the consequence of the well-known tilt of the velocity ellipsoid. The observed spiral and quadrupole patterns in the phase space plane vary …
We have analyzed the kinematics of OB stars from the list by Xiang et al. (2021) that contains $\sim$13 000 single OB stars. For these stars there are photometric distance estimates and proper motions from the Gaia catalogue and line-of-sight velocities from the LAMOST catalogue. Based on a sample of single OB stars and using the photometric distances and proper motions of stars from the Gaia EDR3 catalogue, we have found the group velocity components $(U_\odot,V_\odot,W_\odot)=(9.63,9.93,7.45)\pm(0.27,0.34,0.10)$ km s$^{-1}$, and the following parameters of the angular velocity of Galactic ro…
We analyze the anisotropy profile of the Milky Way's smooth, diffuse stellar halo using SDSS/SEGUE blue horizontal branch stars and SDSS/SEGUE and LAMOST K giants. These intrinsically luminous stars allow us to probe the halo to approximately 100 kpc from the Galactic center. Line-of-sight velocities, distances, metallicities, and proper motions are available for all stars via SDSS/SEGUE, LAMOST, and Gaia, and we use these data to construct a full 7D set consisting of positions, space motions, and metallicity. We remove substructure from our samples using integrals of motion based on the metho…
We search for metal-rich Sausage-kinematic (MRSK) stars with [Fe/H]> -0.8 and -100<Vphi<50 km/s in LAMOST DR5 in order to investigate the influence of the Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE) merger event on the Galactic disk. For the first time, we find a group of low-alpha MRSK stars, and classify it as a metal-rich tail of the GSE galaxy based on the chemical and kinematical properties. This group has slightly larger Rapo, Zmax and Etot distributions than a previously-reported high-alpha group. Its low-alpha ratio does not allow for an origin resulting from the splash process of the GSE merger even…
We determined the chemical and kinematic properties of the Galactic thin and thick disk using a sample of 307,246 A/F/G/K-type giant stars from the LAMOST spectroscopic survey and Gaia DR2 survey. Our study found that the thick disk globally exhibits no metallicity radial gradient, but the inner disk ($R \le 8$ kpc) and the outer disk ($R>8$ kpc) have different gradients when they are studied separately. The thin disk also shows two different metallicity radial gradients for the inner disk and the outer disk, and has steep metallicity vertical gradient of d[Fe/H]/d$|z|$ $=-0.12\pm0.0007$ dex k…
Since Gaia DR2 was released, many velocity structures in the disk have been revealed such as large scale ridge-like patterns in the phase space. Both kinematic information and stellar elemental abundances are needed to reveal their evolution history. We have used labels from the APOGEE survey to predict elemental abundances for a huge amount of low resolution spectra from the LAMOST survey. Deep learning with artificial neural networks can automatically draw on physically sensible features in the spectrum for their predictions. Abundances of 12 individual elements: [C/Fe], [N/Fe], [O/Fe], [Mg/…
With the help of Gaia DR2, we are able to obtain the full 6-D phase space information for stars from LAMOST DR5. With high precision of position, velocity, and metallicity, the rotation of the local stellar halo is presented using the K giant stars with [Fe/H]$<-1$ dex within 4 kpc from the Sun. By fitting the rotational velocity distribution with three Gaussian components, stellar halo, disk, and a counter-rotating hot population, we find that the local halo progradely rotates with $V_T=+27^{+4}_{-5}$ km s$^{-1}$ providing the local standard of rest velocity of $V_{LSR}=232$ km s$^{-1}$. Mean…
We have studied the zero-point offset of Gaia early Data Release 3 (EDR3) parallaxes based on a sample of 0.3 million giant stars built from the LAMOST data with distance accuracy better than 8.5\%. The official parallax zero-point corrections largely reduce the global offset in the Gaia EDR3 parallaxes: the global parallax offsets are $-$27.9 $μ$as and $-$26.5 $μ$as (before correction) and $+$2.6 $μ$as and $+$2.9 $μ$as (after correction) for the five- and six-parameter solutions, respectively. The bias of the raw parallax measurements is significantly dependent on the $G$ magnitudes, spectral…
We characterize the kinematic and chemical properties of 589 Galactic Anticenter Substructure Stars (GASS) with K-/M- giants in Integrals-of-Motion space. These stars likely include members of previously identified substructures such as Monoceros, A13, and the Triangulum-Andromeda cloud (TriAnd). We show that these stars are on nearly circular orbits on both sides of the Galactic plane. We can see velocity($V_{Z}$) gradient along Y-axis especially for the south GASS members. Our GASS members have similar energy and angular momentum distributions to thin disk stars. Their location in [$α$/M] vs…
The anisotropy parameter $β$ characterizes the extent to which orbits in stellar systems are predominantly radial or tangential, and is likely to constrain, for the stellar halo of the Milky Way, scenarios for its formation and evolution. We have measured the anisotropy $β$ as a function of Galactocentric radius from $5-100$ kpc for over 8600 metal poor ([Fe/H] $<-1.3$) halo K giants from the LAMOST catalog with line-of-sight velocities and distances, matched to proper motions from the second $Gaia$ data release. We construct full 6-D positions and velocities for the K giants to directly measu…
We present an independent examination of the parallax zero-point of the Third Gaia Early Data Release (hereafter EDR3), using the LAMOST primary red clump (PRC) stellar sample. A median parallax offset of around $26 μ$as, slightly larger than that found by examination of distant quasars, is found for both the five- and six-parameter solutions in EDR3, based on samples of over 63,000 and 2000 PRC stars, respectively. Similar to the previous investigation of Lindegren et al., to which we compare our results, the parallax zero-point exhibits clear dependencies on the $G$ magnitudes, colors, and p…
We present the age-velocity dispersion relation (AVR) in three dimensions in the solar neighbourhood using 3,564 commonly observed sub-giant/red-giant branch stars selected from LAMOST, which gives the age and radial velocity, and \emph{Gaia}, which measures the distance and proper motion. The stars are separated into metal-poor (${\rm [Fe/H]<-0.2}$\,dex and metal-rich (${\rm [Fe/H]>-0.2}$\,dex) groups, so that the metal-rich stars are mostly $α$-poor, while the metal-poor group are mostly contributed by $α$-enhanced stars. Thus, the old and metal-poor stars likely belong to the chemically def…
Open Clusters are born and evolve along the Milky Way plane, on them is imprinted the history of the Galactic disc, including the chemical and dynamical evolution. Chemical and dynamical properties of open clusters can be derived from photometric, spectroscopic, and astrometric data of their member stars. Based on the photometric and astrometric data from the Gaia mission, the membership of stars in more than 2000 Galactic clusters has been identified in the literature. The chemical and kinematical properties, however, are still poorly known for many of these clusters. In synergy with the larg…
Using a sample of 96,201 primary red clump (RC) stars selected from the LAMOST and Gaia surveys, we investigate the stellar structure of the Galactic disk. The sample stars show two separated sequences of high-[α/Fe] and low-[α/Fe] in the [α/Fe]-[Fe/H] plane. We divide the sample stars into five mono-abundance populations (MAPs) with different ranges of [α/Fe] and [Fe/H], named as the high-[α/Fe], high-[α/Fe] & high-[Fe/H], low-[Fe/H], solar, high-[Fe/H] MAPs respectively. We present the stellar number density distributions in the R R Z plane, and the scale heights and scale lengths of the ind…
With about 12 000 OB type stars selected from the LAMOST and Gaia survey, we study their 3 dimensional velocity distribution over the range of galactocentric radius from 6 to 15 kpc in the Galactic disk plane. A clear ripple pattern in the radial velocity ($V_R$) map is shown. The median $V_R$ reaches $-8$ km s$^{-1}$ at $R\sim9$ kpc, then increases to $\sim0$ km s$^{-1}$ at $R\sim12$ kpc, and later declines to below $-10$ km s$^{-1}$ beyond $R\sim13$ kpc. The median azimuthal velocity ($V_ϕ$) map shows a similar pattern but has roughly $1/4$ phase difference with the radial velocity. Although…
We take advantage of the Gaia data release 2 to present 275 and 1,774 ultraviolet luminous stars in the FUV and the NUV. These stars are 5$σ$ exceeding the centers of the reference frame that is built with over one million UV stars in the log $g$ vs $T_\textrm{eff}$ diagram. The Galactic extinction is corrected with the 3D dusty map. In order to limit the Lutz-Kelker effect to an insignificant level, we select the stars with the relative uncertainties of the luminosity less than 40% and the trigonometric parallaxes less than 20%. We cross-identified our sample with the catalogs of RR Lyr stars…
Using a sample of nearly 140,000 primary red clump stars selected from the LAMOST and $Gaia$ surveys, we have identified a large sample of "young" [$α$/Fe]-enhanced stars with stellar ages younger than 6.0 Gyr and [$α$/Fe] ratios greater than 0.15 dex. The stellar ages and [$α$/Fe] ratios are measured from LAMOST spectra, using a machine learning method trained with common stars in the LAMOST-APOGEE fields (for [$α$/Fe]) and in the LAMOST-$Kepler$ fields (for stellar age). The existence of these "young" [$α$/Fe]-enhanced stars is not expected from the classical Galactic chemical evolution mode…
We present a study of the influence of the Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE) on the density shape of the Galactic stellar halo using 11624 K giants from the LAMOST survey. Every star is assigned a probability of being a member of the GSE based on its spherical velocities and metallicity by a Gaussian Mixture Model. We divide the stellar halo into two parts by the obtained probabilities, of which one is composed of the GSE members and defined as the GSE-related halo, and the other one is referred to as the GSE-removed halo. Using a non-parametric method, the radial number density profiles of the two…
We present a sample of $\sim$ 140,000 primary red clump (RC) stars of spectral signal-to-noise ratios higher than 20 from the LAMOST Galactic spectroscopic surveys, selected based on their positions in the metallicity-dependent effective temperature--surface gravity and color--metallicity diagrams, supervised by high-quality $Kepler$ asteroseismology data. The stellar masses and ages of those stars are further determined from the LAMOST spectra, using the Kernel Principal Component Analysis method, trained with thousands of RCs in the LAMOST-$Kepler$ fields with accurate asteroseismic mass mea…
We perform analysis of the three-dimensional kinematics of Milky Way disk stars in mono-age populations. We focus on stars between Galactocentric distances of $R=6$ and 14 \,kpc, selected from the combined LAMOST DR4 red clump giant stars and Gaia DR2 proper motion catalogue. We confirm the 3D asymmetrical motions of recent works and provide time tagging of the Galactic outer disk asymmetrical motions near the anticenter direction out to Galactocentric distances of 14\,kpc. Radial Galactocentric motions reach values up to 10 km s$^{-1}$, depending on the age of the population, and present a no…
Mapping the Galactic disk with the LAMOST and Gaia Red clump sample: VIII: Mapping the kinematics of the Galactic disk using mono-age and mono-abundance stellar populations
In this paper, we report the discovery of a new late-B type unbound hyper-runaway star (LAMOST-HVS4) from the LAMOST spectroscopic surveys. According to its atmospheric parameters, it is either a B-type main sequence (MS) star or a blue horizontal branch (BHB) star. Its Galactocentric distance and velocity are 30.3 +/- 1.6 kpc and 586 +/- 7 km/s if it is an MS star, and they are 13.2 +/- 3.7 kpc and 590 +/- 7 km/s if a BHB star. We track its trajectories back, and find that the trajectories intersect with the Galactic disk and the Galactic center lies outside of the intersection region at the …
Identifying the young optically visible population in a star-forming region is essential for fully understanding the star formation event. In this paper, We identify 211 candidate members of the Perseus molecular cloud based on Gaia astronomy. We use LAMOST spectra to confirm that 51 of these candidates are new members, bringing the total census of known members to 856. The newly confirmed members are less extincted than previously known members. Two new stellar aggregates are identified in our updated census. With the updated member list, we obtain a statistically significant distance gradien…
The recently published Gaia DR3 catalog of 181327 spectroscopic binaries (SB) includes the Keplerian elements of each orbit but not the measured radial velocities (RVs) and their epochs. Instead, the catalog lists a few parameters that characterize the robustness of each solution. In this work, we use two external sources to validate the orbits - 17563 LAMOST DR6 and 6018 GALAH DR3 stars with measured RVs that have Gaia-SB orbits. We compare the expected RVs, based on the Gaia orbits, with the LAMOST and GALAH measurements. Finding some orbits that are inconsistent with these measurements, we …
The Kepler telescope has discovered over 4,000 planets (candidates) by searching ? 200,000 stars over a wide range of distance (order of kpc) in our Galaxy. Characterizing the kinematic properties (e.g., Galactic component membership and kinematic age) of these Kepler targets (including the planet (candidate) hosts) is the first step towards studying Kepler planets in the Galactic context, which will reveal fresh insights into planet formation and evolution. In this paper, the second part of the Planets Across the Space and Time (PAST) series, by combining the data from LAMOST and Gaia and the…
Precise correction of dust reddening is fundamental to obtain the intrinsic parameters of celestial objects. The Schlegel et al. (SFD) and the Planck 2D extinction maps are widely used for the reddening correction. In this work, using accurate reddening determinations of about two million stars from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) data release 5 (DR5) and Gaia DR2, we check and calibrate the SFD and Planck maps in the middle and high Galactic latitudes. The maps show similar precision in reddening correction. We find small yet significant spatially depend…
We collect a sample of stars observed both in LAMOST and Gaia which have colors implying a temperature hotter than 7000 K. We train a machine learning algorithm on LAMOST spectroscopic data which has been tagged with stellar classifications and metallicities, and use this machine to construct a catalog of Blue Horizontal Branch stars (BHBs) with metallicity information. Another machine is trained using Gaia parallaxes to predict absolute magnitudes for these stars. The final catalog of 13,693 BHBs is thought to be about 86\% pure, with $σ_{[Fe/H]}\sim$0.35 dex and $σ_{G}\sim$0.31 mag. These va…

Spectrophotometric distances to stars observed by large spectroscopic surveys offer a crucial complement to parallax distances that remain very important also after the future Gaia data releases. Here we present a probabilistic approach to modeling spectroscopic information for a subset of 4,000 main sequence stars with good parallaxes ($σ_\varpi/\varpi<0.1$) from the LAMOST $\times$ TGAS $\times$ 2MASS cross-match, yielding a precise spectroscopic distance estimator with uncertainties of $\sim$6% for single stars. Unlike previous approaches to this problem, we explicitly account for the indiv…
