We present 3 mm ALMA continuum and line observations at resolutions of 6.5 au and 13 au respectively, toward the Class 0 system IRAS 16293-2422 A. The continuum observations reveal two compact sources towards IRAS 16293-2422 A, coinciding with compact ionized gas emission previously observed at radio wavelengths (A1 and A2), confirming the long-known radio sources as protostellar. The emission towards A2 is resolved and traces a dust disk with a FWHM size of ~12 au, while the emission towards A1 sets a limit to the FWHM size of the dust disk of ~4 au. We also detect spatially resolved molecular kinematic tracers near the protostellar disks. Several lines of the J=5-4 rotational transition of HNCO, NH2CHO and t-HCOOH are detected, with which we derived individual line-of-sight velocities. Using these together with the CS (J=2-1), we fit Keplerian profiles towards the individual compact sources and derive masses of the central protostars. The kinematic analysis indicates that A1 and A2 are a bound binary system. Using this new context for the previous 30 years of VLA observations, we fit orbital parameters to the relative motion between A1 and A2 and find the combined protostellar mass derived from the orbit is consistent with the masses derived from the gas kinematics. Both estimations indicate masses consistently higher (0.5< M1<M2<2 Msun) than previous estimations using lower resolution observations of the gas kinematics. The ALMA high-resolution data provides a unique insight into the gas kinematics and masses of a young deeply embedded bound binary system.
IRAS 20050+2720 is young star forming region at a distance of 700 pc without apparent high mass stars. We present results of our multiwavelength study of IRAS 20050+2720 which includes observations by Chandra and Spitzer, and 2MASS and UBVRI photometry. In total, about 300 YSOs in different evolutionary stages are found. We characterize the distribution of young stellar objects (YSOs) in this region using a minimum spanning tree (MST) analysis. We newly identify a second cluster core, which consists mostly of class II objects, about 10 arcmin from the center of the cloud. YSOs of earlier evolu…
We report the discovery of a new young stellar cluster in the outer Galaxy located at the position of an IRAS PSC source that has been previously mis-identified as an external galaxy. The cluster is seen in our near-infrared imaging towards IRAS 04186+5143 and in archive Spitzer images confirming the young stellar nature of the sources detected. There is also evidence of sub-clustering seen in the spatial distributions of young stars and of gas and dust. Near- and mid-infrared photometry indicates that the stars exhibit colours compatible with reddening by interstellar and circumstellar dust a…
We have analyzed ALMA Cycle 5 data in Band 4 toward three low-mass young stellar objects (YSOs), IRAS 03235+3004 (hereafter IRAS 03235), IRAS 03245+3002 (IRAS 03245), and IRAS 03271+3013 (IRAS 03271), in the Perseus region. The HC$_{3}$N ($J=16-15$; $E_{\rm {up}}/k = 59.4$ K) line has been detected in all of the target sources, while four CH$_{3}$OH lines ($E_{\rm {up}}/k = 15.4-36.3$ K) have been detected only in IRAS 03245. Sizes of the HC$_{3}$N distributions ($\sim 2930-3230$ au) in IRAS 03235 and IRAS 03245 are similar to those of the carbon-chain species in the warm carbon chain chemistr…
Jets and outflows are associated with young stellar objects across the stellar mass spectrum, from brown dwarf protostars to massive, Ae/Be stars. Frequently, the jet morphology is spatially discontinuous because of the temporal variability of the ejection from the driving source. Images covering a wide field of view around the jet driving-source are useful to map the large-scale jet emission and to explore the mass ejection history. The aim of this work was to search for large-scale optical Herbig-Haro (HH) objects lying in a wide field around a sample of IRAS sources, candidates to trace you…
We report the results of spectroscopic observations and numerical modelling of the H II region IRAS 18153-1651. Our study was motivated by the discovery of an optical arc and two main-sequence stars of spectral type B1 and B3 near the centre of IRAS 18153-1651. We interpret the arc as the edge of the wind bubble (blown by the B1 star), whose brightness is enhanced by the interaction with a photoevaporation flow from a nearby molecular cloud. This interpretation implies that we deal with a unique case of a young massive star (the most massive member of a recently formed low-mass star cluster) c…
We present high-angular-resolution {\it Hubble Space Telescope (HST)} optical and near-infrared imaging of the compact planetary nebula (PN) IRAS 21282+5050. Optical images of this object reveal several complex morphological structures including three pairs of bipolar lobes and an elliptical shell lying close to the plane of the sky. From near-infrared observations, we found a dust torus oriented nearly perpendicular to the major axis of elliptical shell. The results suggest that IRAS 21282+5050 is a multipolar PN, and these structures developed early during the post asymptotic-giant-branch (A…
We report the discovery of a small aggregate of young stars seen in high-resolution, deep near-infrared ($JHK_S$) images towards IRAS 06345-3023 in the outer Galaxy and well below the mid-plane of the Galactic disc. The group of young stars is likely to be composed of low-mass stars, mostly Class I young stellar objects. The stars are seen towards a molecular cloud whose CO map peaks at the location of the IRAS source. The near-infrared images reveal, additionally, the presence of nebular emission with rich morphological features, including arcs in the vicinity of embedded stars, wisps and bri…
We present and analyze two new high-resolution (approx 0.3 arcsec), high-sensitivity (approx 50 uJy beam-1) Very Large Array 3.6 cm observations of IRAS 16293-2422 obtained in 2007 August and 2008 December. The components A2alpha and A2beta recently detected in this system are still present, and have moved roughly symmetrically away from source A2 at a projected velocity of 30-80 km s-1. This confirms that A2alpha and A2beta were formed as a consequence of a very recent bipolar ejection from A2. Powerful bipolar ejections have long been known to occur in low-mass young stars, but this is -to o…
We report new Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA), 0$"$.5 angular resolution observations of linearly polarized continuum emission at 6.9 mm, towards the Class 0 young stellar object (YSO) NGC1333 IRAS4A. This target source is a collapsing dense molecular core, which was resolved at short wavelengths to have hourglass shaped B-field configuration. We compare these 6.9 mm observations with previous polarization Submillimeter Array (SMA) observations at 0.88 mm, which have comparable angular resolution ($\sim$0$"$7). We found that at the same resolution, the observed polarization position ang…
We present early results of our multiwavelength study of the star forming region IRAS 20050+2720. While we use X-rays and IR to classify young stellar objects, the optical data can be used to exclude foreground objects. The dataset set contains 57 class I sources, 183 class II sources and 183 X-ray sources, of which 140 are class III candidates. Within IRAS 20050+2720 four subclusters are found. Subcluster A and B are the densest regions, which contain stars of all evolutionary stages. Subcluster C is much younger than the other two. It has not formed any class III objects yet. We newly identi…
We present an analysis of the IRAS 08589-4714 star-forming region. This region harbors candidate young stellar objects identified in the WISE and Herschel images using color index criteria and spectral energy distributions (SEDs). The SEDs of some of the infrared sources and the 70 microns radial intensity profile of the brightest source (IRS 1) are modeled from Herschel fluxes using the one-dimensional radiative transfer DUSTY code. For these objects, we estimate the envelope masses, sizes, densities, and luminosities which suggest that they are very young, massive and luminous objects at ear…
Using the 13.7 m telescope of Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO), a survey of J=1-0 lines of CO and its isotopes was carried out towards 98 methanol maser sources in January 2008. Eighty-five sources have infrared counterparts within one arcmin. In the survey, except 43 sources showing complex or multiple-peak profiles, almost all the $^{13}$CO line profiles of the other 55 sources have large line widths of 4.5 km s$^{-1}$ on average and are usually asymmetric. Fifty corresponding Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) sources of these 55 sources are with $L_{bol}$ larger than $10^{3}L_{\odot}$…
Deeply embedded protostars are actively fed from their surrounding envelopes through their protostellar disk. The physical structure of such early disks might be different from that of more evolved sources due to the active accretion. We present 1.3 and 3\,mm ALMA continuum observations at resolutions of 6.5\,au and 12\,au respectively, towards the Class 0 source IRAS 16293-2422 B. The resolved brightness temperatures appear remarkably high, with $T_{\rm b} >$ 100\,K within $\sim$30\,au and $T_{\rm b}$ peak over 400\,K at 3\,mm. Both wavelengths show a lopsided emission with a spectral index r…
We present a comprehensive multiwavelength investigation of a likely massive young cluster `IRAS 05100+3723' and its environment with the aim to understand its formation history and feedback effects. We find that IRAS 05100+3723 is a distant ($\sim$3.2 kpc), moderate mass ($\sim$500 \msun), young ($\sim$3 Myr) cluster with its most massive star being an O8.5V-type. From spectral modeling, we estimate the effective temperature and log $g$ of the star as $\sim$33,000 K and $\sim$3.8, respectively. Our radio continuum observations reveal that the star has ionized its environment forming an HII re…
IRAS 16293-2422 is a very well studied young stellar system seen in projection towards the L1689N cloud in the Ophiuchus complex. However, its distance is still uncertain with a range of values from 120 pc to 180 pc. Our goal is to measure the trigonometric parallax of this young star by means of H$_2$O maser emission. We use archival data from 15 epochs of VLBA observations of the 22.2 GHz water maser line. By modeling the displacement on the sky of the H$_2$O maser spots, we derived a trigonometric parallax of $7.1\pm1.3$ mas, corresponding to a distance of $141_{-21}^{+30}$ pc. This new dis…
Four binary objects and one triplet have been revealed in the young stellar cluster located in the vicinity of IRAS 05137+3919 source on a distance 4.4 kpc with the use of statistic analysis. They are including the pair of AeBe stars. The percentage of the multiple systems in the cluster is mf = 5 and cp = 10.The mass of the multiple systems' components are located in the range from 1 to 8 Msol and log P (rotation period in years) - from 4.4 to 4.7. The median value of the mass ratio of the components is q = 0.86. The percentage of the multiple systems and their parameters in this cluster is r…
We present an analysis of HCO+ (J=3-2) and H13CO+ (J=3-2) observations of the massive (M ~ 20 Msun) submm/IR source IRAS 01202+6133 located on the periphery of the HII region KR 120 (Sh 2-187). The HCO+ line profile has a classic blue-asymmetric shape with the optically thin H13CO+ line peaking at the position expected if the HCO+ line arises from a combination of self-absorption and infall motion. We have modified existing analytic radiative transfer models to allow for the fitting of submm/mm line profiles that have both self-absorption features and optically thin wings and applied these mod…
We performed the new JVLA full polarization observations at 40-48 GHz (6.3-7.5 mm) towards the nearby ($d$ $=$147$\pm$3.4 pc) Class 0 YSO IRAS 16293-2422, and compare with the previous SMA observations reported by Rao et al. (2009; 2014). We observed the quasar J1407+2827 which is weakly polarized and can be used as a leakage term calibrator for $<$9 GHz observations, to gauge the potential residual polarization leakage after calibration. We did not detect Stokes Q, U, and V intensities from the observations of J1407+2827, and constrain (3-$σ$) the residual polarization leakage after calibrati…
We present results of AO-assisted K-band IFU spectroscopy of the massive young star IRAS13481-6124 performed with ESO's VLT/SINFONI instrument. Our spectro-astrometric analysis of the Brγ line revealed a photo-center shift with respect to the adjacent continuum of \sim1 AU at a distance of 3.1 kpc. The position angle of this shift matches with that of the outflow which confirms that the massive star is indeed the driving source. Furthermore, a velocity gradient along the major disk axis was found which hints at the rotational sense of the ionized region, and thus of the disk as well. The gradi…
We present the results of a spectroscopic analysis and spectral energy distribution (SED) modelling of the optical counterpart of the infrared source IRAS 22150+6109. The source was suggested to be as a Herbig Be star located in the star forming region L 1188. Absorption lines in the optical spectrum indicate a spectral type B3, while weak Balmer emission lines reflect the presence of a circumstellar gaseous disc. The star shows no excess radiation in the near-infrared spectral region and a strong excess in the far-infrared that we interpret as radiation from a large disc, whose inner edge is …
Changing physical conditions in the vicinity of protostars allow for a rich and interesting chemistry to occur. Heating and cooling of the gas allows molecules to be released from and frozen out on dust grains. These changes in physics, traced by chemistry, as well as the kinematical information allows us to distinguish between different scenarios describing the infall of matter and the launching of molecular outflows and jets. We aim at determining the spatial distribution of different species, of different chemical origin. This is to examine the physical processes in play in the observed reg…
We present Submillimeter Array observations of the young stellar object IRAS 04579+4703 in the 1.3 mm continuum and in the 12CO(2-1), 13CO(2-1) and C18O(2-1) lines. The 1.3 mm continuum image reveals a flattened structure with a mass of 13 Msun. The 12CO(2-1) line map and position-velocity (PV) diagram, together with the broad wing (full width=30 km/s of 12CO(2-1)) line, clearly show that there is an outflow motion, which originates from an embedded massive YSO in this region. The lengths of the blue-shifted and red-shifted lobes are 0.14 pc and 0.13 pc respectively. The total gas mass, averag…
Aims. We report the discovery of a strong outburst of the embedded young stellar object (YSO), namely UKIDSS-J185318.36+012454.5, located in the star-forming region associated with IRAS 18507+0121 source and GAL 034.4+00.23 HII region. Methods. Using the archival photometric data and images we determined the amplitude and the epoch of the outburst, as well as the evolution stage and the basic parameters of the object. Results. According to the near and mid-infrared colors and spectral energy distribution, we classify the object as an intermediate-mass young stellar object (YSO) with Class 0/I …
Context: Protostellar jets in high-mass young stellar objects (HMYSOs) play a key role in the understanding of star formation and provide us with an excellent tool to study fundamental properties of HMYSOs. Aims: We aim at studying the physical and kinematic properties of the near-IR (NIR) jet of IRAS\,13481-6124 from au to parsec scales. Methods: Our study includes NIR data from the Very Large Telescope instruments SINFONI, CRIRES, and ISAAC. Information about the source and its immediate environment is retrieved with SINFONI. The technique of spectro-astrometry is performed with CRIRES to st…
We present a time-variability study of young stellar objects in the cluster IRAS 20050+2720, performed at 3.6 and 4.5 micron with the Spitzer Space Telescope; this study is part of the Young Stellar Object VARiability project (YSOVAR). We have collected light curves for 181 cluster members over 40 days. We find a high variability fraction among embedded cluster members of ca. 70%, whereas young stars without a detectable disk display variability less often (in ca. 50% of the cases) and with lower amplitudes. We detect periodic variability for 33 sources with periods primarily in the range of 2…
Molecular outflows from high-mass young stellar objects provide an excellent way to study the star formation process, and investigate if they are scaled-up versions of their low-mass counterparts. We selected the nearby massive star forming region IRAS 17233-3606 in order to study the kinematics and physics along the molecular outflow(s) originating from this source. We observed IRAS 17233-3606 in CO, a typical tracer of gas associated with molecular outflow, with the Submillimeter Array in the (2-1) transition, and with the APEX telescope in the higher excitation (6-5) line. Additional infrar…
Massive young stellar objects (MYSOs) have recently been shown to drive jets whose particles can interact with either the magnetic fields of the jet or ambient medium to emit non-thermal radiation. We report a search for non-thermal radio emission from a sample of 15 MYSOs to establish the prevalence of the emission in the objects. We used their spectra across the L-, C- and Q-bands along with spectral index maps to characterise their emission. We find that about 50% of the sources show evidence for non-thermal emission with 40% showing clear non-thermal lobes, especially sources of higher bol…
The luminous Young Stellar Object (YSO) IRAS 07422-2001 is studied in the infrared. We discover star forming activity in embedded clusters located in a cloud detected at mid-IR wavelengths in emission. Multiple outflows are discovered from these clusters in the H_2 ro-vibrational line at 2.122 micron. We detect at least six outflows from the cluster associated with the IRAS source and another outflow from a source located in a cluster detected ~2.7 arcmin NE of the IRAS source. Additional star formation is taking place in two other cluster candidates within the cloud. Three of the YSOs in the …
Temperature is a crucial parameter in circumstellar disk evolution and planet formation, because it governs the resistance of the gas to gravitational instability and sets the chemical composition of the planet-forming material. We set out to determine the gas temperature of the young disk-like structure around the Class 0 protostar IRAS 16293$-$2422A. We use Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of multiple H$_2$CS $J=7-6$ and $J=10-9$ lines from the Protostellar Interferometric Line Survey (PILS) to create a temperature map for the inner $\sim$200 AU of the disk-li…
NGC 1333 IRAS 4A and IRAS 4B sources are among the best studied Stage 0 low-mass protostars which are driving prominent bipolar outflows. Most studies have so far concentrated on the colder parts (T<30K) of these regions. The aim is to characterize the warmer parts of the protostellar envelope in order to quantify the feedback of the protostars on their surroundings in terms of shocks, UV heating, photodissociation and outflow dispersal. Fully sampled large scale maps of the region were obtained; APEX-CHAMP+ was used for 12CO 6-5, 13CO 6-5 and [CI] 2-1, and JCMT-HARP-B for 12CO 3-2 emissions. …
We present ALMA and VLA observations of the molecular and ionized gas at 0.1-0.3 arcsec resolution in the Class 0 protostellar system IRAS 16293-2422. These data clarify the origins of the protostellar outflows from the deeply embedded sources in this complex region. Source A2 is confirmed to be at the origin of the well known large scale north-east--south-west flow. The most recent VLA observations reveal a new ejection from that protostar, demonstrating that it drives an episodic jet. The central compact part of the other known large scale flow in the system, oriented roughly east-west, is w…
Aims: A unique environment to study how interstellar Complex Organic Molecules (iCOMs) can be formed is the shocked gas along low-mass protostellar outflows, as the dust mantles composition is sputtered into the gas phase. The chemical richness in these environments has been so far studied only in the L1157 blue shifted outflow. Methods: To understand if the L1157-B1 case is unique, we imaged the NGC 1333 IRAS 4A outflows using the NOEMA (NOrthern Extended Millimeter Array) interferometer as part of the IRAM SOLIS (Seeds Of Life in Space) Large Program and compared the observations with the GR…
From measuring the annual parallax of water masers over one and a half years with VERA, we present the trigonometric parallax and corresponding distance of another newly identified water maser source in the region of IRAS 20231+3440 as $π=0.611\pm0.022$ mas and $D=1.64\pm0.06$ kpc respectively. We measured the absolute proper motions of all the newly detected maser spots (30 spots) and presented two pictures describing the possible spatial distribution of the water maser as the morphology marks out an arc of masers whose average proper motion velocity in the jet direction was 14.26 km s$^{-1}$…
We present an analysis of the region IRAS 08589-4714 with the aim of characterizing the molecular environment. We observed the CO(3-2), ^{13}CO(3-2), C^{18}O(3-2), HCO+(3-2), and HCN(3-2) molecular lines in a region of 150" x 150", centered on the IRAS source, to analyze the distribution and characteristics of the molecular gas linked to the IRAS source. The molecular gas distribution reveals a molecular clump that is coincident with IRAS 08589-4714 and with a dust clump detected at 1.2 mm. The molecular clump is 0.45 pc in radius and its mass and H_2 volume density are 310 Mo and 1.2 x 10^4 c…
We present new mid-infrared interferometric observations of the massive young stellar object IRAS 13481-6124, using VLTI/MIDI for spectrally-resolved, long-baseline measurements (projected baselines up to $\sim120$ m) and GSO/T-ReCS for aperture-masking interferometry in five narrow-band filters (projected baselines of $\sim1.8-6.4$ m) in the wavelength range of $7.5-13$ $μ$m. We combine these measurements with previously-published interferometric observations in the $K$ and $N$ bands in order to assemble the largest collection of infrared interferometric observations for a massive YSO to date…
We present the project of a VLBI study of the 22 GHz H$_2$O maser in a prototypical low-mass protostellar system IRAS 16293-2422. The observation was conducted to characterise the cause of the newly discovered enhanced maser activity in the source and to study the source's ejection behaviour as traced by maser emission. Single-dish monitoring and analysis of archival data indicate that the activity of the H$_2$O maser in IRAS 16293-2422 has a cyclic character and traces episodic ejection events in the source. A new maser flare was recently discovered in a spectral feature that has never shown …
JWST Observations of Young protoStars (JOYS+): Detection of icy complex organic molecules and ions. I. CH$_4$, SO$_2$, HCOO$^-$, OCN$^-$, H$_2$CO, HCOOH, CH$_3$CH$_2$OH, CH$_3$CHO, CH$_3$OCHO, CH$_3$COOH
Massive stars are rarely seen to form in isolation. It has been proposed that association with companions or clusters in the formative stages is vital to their mass accumulation. In this paper we study IRAS~18144-1723, a massive young stellar object (YSO) which had been perceived in early studies as a single source. In the CO(3-2) line, we detect an outflow aligned well with the outflow seen in H$_2$ in this region. We show that there are at least two YSOs here, and that the outflow is most likely to be from a deeply embedded source detected in our infrared imaging. Using multi-wavelength obse…
The origin of complex organic molecules (COMs) in young Class 0 protostars has been one of the major questions in astrochemistry and star formation. While COMs are thought to form on icy dust grains via gas-grain chemistry, observational constraints on their formation pathways have been limited to gas-phase detection. Sensitive mid-infrared spectroscopy with JWST enables unprecedented investigation of COM formation by measuring their ice absorption features. We present an overview of JWST/MIRI MRS spectroscopy and imaging of a young Class 0 protostar, IRAS 15398-3359, and identify several majo…
Massive stars form deeply embedded in their parental clouds, making it challenging to directly observe these stars and their immediate environments. It is known that accretion and ejection processes are intrinsically related, thus observing massive protostellar outflows can provide crucial information about the processes governing massive star formation close to the central engine. We aim to probe the IRAS 18264-1152 (G19.88-0.53) high-mass star-forming complex in the near infrared (NIR) through its molecular hydrogen (H2) jets to analyse the morphology and composition of the line emitting reg…
Low-mass star formation is described by gravitational collapse of dense cores of gas and dust. At some point during the collapse, a disk is formed around the protostar and the disk will spin up and grow in size as the core contracts because of angular momentum conservation. The question is how early the disk formation process occurs. In this paper we aim to characterize the kinematical state of a deeply embedded, Class 0 young stellar object, NGC1333-IRAS2A, based on high angular resolution (< 1$''$ $\approx$ 200 AU) interferometric observations of HCN and H$^{13}$CN J = 4-3 from the Submillim…
Context: Post-Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) binaries are surrounded by stable dusty and gaseous disks similar to the ones around young stellar objects. Whereas significant effort is spent on modeling observations of disks around young stellar objects, the disks around post-AGB binaries receive significantly less attention, even though they pose significant constraints on theories of disk physics and binary evolution. Aims: We want to examine the structure of and phenomena at play in circumbinary disks around post-AGB stars. We continue the analysis of our near-infrared interferometric image of…
We present medium resolution ($R\approx5300$) $K$-band integral field spectroscopy of six MYSOs. The targets are selected from the RMS survey, and we used the NIFS on the Gemini North telescope. The data show various spectral line features including Br$γ$, CO, H$_2$, and \mbox{He\,{\sc i}}. The Br$γ$ line is detected in emission in all objects with $v_\mathrm{FWHM}\sim100$ -- 200 kms$^{-1}$. V645 Cyg shows a high-velocity P-Cygni profile between -800 kms$^{-1}$ and -300 kms$^{-1}$. We performed three-dimensional spectroastrometry to diagnose the circumstellar environment in the vicinity of the…
Aims: Previous observations of the young massive star formation region IRAS 19410+2336 have revealed strong outflow activity with several interacting outflows. We aim to get a better understanding of the outflow activity in this region by observing the SiO and H$^{13}$CO$^+$ emission with high angular resolution. SiO is known to trace shocked gas, which is often associated with young energetic outflows. With the H$^{13}$CO$^+$ data, we intend to better understand the distribution of the quiescent gaseous component of the region. Methods: The SiO observations in the J=2-1 v=0 transition and H$^…
Context. Magnetic fields can affect significantly the star formation process. The theory of the magnetically-driven collapse in a uniform field predicts that initially the contraction happens along the field lines. When the gravitational pull grows strong enough, the magnetic field lines pinch inwards, giving rise to a characteristic hourglass shape. Aims. We investigate the magnetic field structure of a young Class 0 object, IRAS 15398-3359, embedded in the Lupus I cloud. Previous observations at large scales suggest that this source evolved in an highly magnetised environment. This object th…
We have mapped 12CO J=3-2 and other molecular lines from the "water-fountain" bipolar pre-planetary nebula (PPN) IRAS 16342-3814 with ~0."35 resolution using ALMA. We find (i) two very high-speed knotty, jet-like molecular outflows, (ii) a central high-density (> few x 10^6 cm^{-3}), expanding torus of diameter 1300 AU, and (iii) the circumstellar envelope of the progenitor AGB, generated by a sudden, very large increase in the mass-loss rate to >3.5 x 10^{-4} Msun/yr in the past ~455 yr. Strong continuum emission at 0.89 mm from a central source (690 mJy), if due to thermally-emitting dust, i…
We report extensive new photometry and spectroscopy of the highly variable young stellar object PTF 10nvg including optical and near-infrared time series data as well as mid-infrared and millimeter data. Following the previously reported 2010 rise, during 2011 and 2012 the source underwent additional episodes of brightening and dimming events including prolonged faint states. The observed high-amplitude variations are largely consistent with extinction changes having a 220 day quasi-periodic signal. Spectral evolution includes not only changes in the spectral slope but correlated variation in …
Searching for variability, we have observed a sample of hot post-AGB stars and young Planetary Nebulae candidates with the Very Large Array at 4.8, 8.4, and 22.4 GHz. The sources had been previously detected in the radio continuum, which is a proof that the central stars have started ionising their circumstellar envelopes and an increase in radio flux with time can be expected as a result of the progression of the ionisation front. Such a behaviour has been found in IRAS 18062+2410, whose radio modelling has allowed us to determine that its ionised mass has increased from 10^{-4} to 3.3 10^{-4…
Context. The formation and early evolution of high- and intermediate-mass stars towards the main sequence involves the interplay of stars in a clustered and highly complex environment. To obtain a full census of this interaction, the Formation and Early evolution of Massive Stars (FEMS) collaboration studies a well-selected sample of 10 high-mass star-forming regions. Aims. In this study we examine the stellar content of the high-mass star-forming region centered on IRAS 06084-0611 in the Monoceros R2 cloud. Methods. Using the near-infrared H- and K-band spectra from the VLT/SINFONI instrument…
This study is a contribution in comprehending the role of binarity upon late stages of stellar evolution. We determine the binary status of six Galactic RV Tauri stars, namely DY Ori, EP Lyr, HP Lyr, IRAS 17038-4815, IRAS 09144-4933 and TW Cam, which are surrounded by a dusty disc. We also place them on the HR diagram, thereby establishing their evolutionary nature. All the six Galactic RV Tauri stars included in this study are binaries with orbital periods ranging between $\sim$ 650 and 1700 days and with eccentricities between 0.2 and 0.6. The mass functions range between 0.08 to 0.55 M$_\od…
We present medium resolution (1000) K-band spectra of 12 post-AGB candidates and related stars. For several objects in our sample, these spectra were obtained for the first time. The Br$γ$ line in emission is detected in seven objects indicating the onset of photo-ionization in these objects. Four objects show the presence of He i line. We detect H2 emission line in the spectra of IRAS 06556+1623, IRAS 22023+5249, IRAS 18062+2410 and IRAS 20462+3416. H2 emission line ratio 1-0 S(1)/2-1 S(1) indicate that H2 is radiatively excited due to the UV radiation of hot post-AGB central stars. When comp…
