We prove that a holomorphic projective connection on a complex projective threefold is either flat, or it is a translation invariant holomorphic projective connection on an abelian threefold. In the second case, a generic translation invariant holomorphic affine connection on the abelian variety is not projectively flat. We also prove that a simply connected compact complex threefold with trivial canonical line bundle does not admit any holomorphic projective connection.
The authors give a complete classification of projective threefolds admitting a holomorphic conformal structure. A Corollary is the complete list of projective threefolds, whose tangent bundle is a symmetric square.
The authors give a complete classification of projective threefolds admitting a holomorphic normal projective connection. Moreover, they prove a general structure theorem on complex projective manifolds admitting a holomorphic normal projective connection, saying in particular, that any such manifold is either the projective space or minimal in the sense of Mori.

We introduce the concept of a branched holomorphic Cartan geometry. It generalizes to higher dimension the definition of branched (flat) complex projective structure on a Riemann surface introduced by Mandelbaum. This new framework is much more flexible than that of the usual holomorphic Cartan geometries. We show that all compact complex projective manifolds admit branched flat holomorphic projective structure. We also give an example of a non-flat branched holomorphic normal projective structure on a compact complex surface. It is known that no compact complex surface admits such a structure…
Let $(M,ω)$ be a compact Kähler manifold with negative holomorphic sectional curvature. It was proved by Wu-Yau and Tosatti-Yang that $M$ is necessarily projective and has ample canonical bundle. In this paper, we show that any irreducible subvariety of $M$ is of general type. Moreover, we can extend the theorem to the quasi-negative curvature case building on earlier results of Diverio-Trapani. Finally, we investigate the more general setting of a quasi-projective manifold $X^{\circ}$ endowed with a Kähler metric with negative holomorphic sectional curvature and we prove that such a manifold …
Let $\mathcal{O}(D)$ be an equivariant line bundle which is big and nef on a complex projective nonsingular toric variety $X$. Given a continuous toric metric $\|\cdot\|$ on $\mathcal{O}(D)$, we define the energy at equilibrium of $(X,ϕ_{\bar{D}})$ where $ϕ_{\bar{D}}$ is the weight of the metrized toric divisor $\bar{D}=(D,\|\cdot\|)$. We show that this energy describes the asymptotic behaviour as $k\rightarrow \infty$ of the volume of the $L^2$-norm unit ball induced by $(X,kϕ_{\bar{D}})$ on the space of global holomorphic sections $H^0(X,\mathcal{O}(kD))$.
We give an explicit description of rational curves in the product of three copies of complex projective lines, which are transformed into twistor lines in M. Nagata's example of non-projective complete algebraic variety, viewed as the twistor space of Eguchi-Hanson metric. In particular, we show that there exist two families of such curves and both of them are parameterized by mutually diffeomorphic, connected real 4-dimensional manifolds. We also give a relationship between these two families through a birational transformation naturally associated to the Nagata's example.
This manuscript is an introduction to the theory of holomorphic foliations on the complex projective plane. Historically the subject has emerged from the theory of ODEs in the complex domain and various attempts to solve Hilbert's 16th Problem, but with the introduction of complex algebraic geometry, foliation theory and dynamical systems, it has now become an interesting subject of its own.
We discuss holomorphic isometric embeddings of the projective line into quadrics using a generalisation of the theorem of do Carmo--Wallach to provide a description of their moduli spaces up to image and gauge--equivalence. Moreover, we show rigidity of the real standard map from the projective line into quadrics.
We study complex analytic (possibly singular) projective connections on the plane. We characterize some of them in terms of their families of integral curves. We also give a beginning of classification of second order odes polynomial in the first and second derivatives, and with holomorphic coefficients.
In this paper, we pose several conjectures on structures and images of maximal rationally connected fibrations of smooth projective varieties admitting semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature. Toward these conjectures, we prove that the canonical bundle of images of such fibrations is not big. Our proof gives a generalization of Yang's solution using RC positivity for Yau's conjecture. As an application, we show that any compact Kähler surface with semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature is rationally connected, or a complex torus, or a ruled surface over an elliptic curve.
We examine the class of compact Hermitian manifolds with constant holomorphic sectional curvature. Such manifolds are conjectured to be Kähler (hence a complex space form) when the constant is non-zero and Chern flat (hence a quotient of a complex Lie group) when the constant is zero. The conjecture is known in complex dimension two but open in higher dimensions. In this paper, we establish a partial solution in complex dimension three by proving that any compact Hermitian threefold with zero real bisectional curvature must be Chern flat. Real bisectional curvature is a curvature notion introd…
In this paper, we establish a structure theorem for a smooth projective variety $X$ with semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature. Our structure theorem contains the solution for Yau's conjecture and it can be regarded as a natural generalization of the structure theorem proved by Howard-Smyth-Wu and Mok for holomorphic bisectional curvature. Specifically, we prove that $X$ admits a locally trivial morphism $ϕ:X \to Y$ such that the fiber $F$ is rationally connected and the image $Y$ has a finite étale cover $A \to Y$ by an abelian variety $A$, by combining the author's previous work with…
The mirror of a projective toric manifold $X_Σ$ is given by a Landau-Ginzburg model $(Y,W)$. We introduce a class of Lagrangian submanifolds in $(Y,W)$ and show that, under the SYZ mirror transformation, they can be transformed to torus-invariant hermitian metrics on holomorphic line bundles over $X_Σ$. Through this geometric correspondence, we also identify the mirrors of Hermitian-Einstein metrics, which are given by distinguished Lagrangian sections whose potentials satisfy certain Laplace-type equations.
The purpose of this article is to give an interpretation of real projective structures and associated cohomology classes in terms of connections, sections, etc. satisfying elliptic partial differential equations in the spirit of Hodge theory. We shall also give an application of these results as the uniqueness of a minimal surface in a symmetric space.
We study the global property of local holomorphic isometric mappings from a class of Kahler manifolds into a product of projective algebraic manifolds with induced Fubini-Study metrics, where isometric factors are allowed to be negative.
We prove that a smooth complex projective threefold with a Kähler metric of negative holomorphic sectional curvature has ample canonical line bundle. In dimensions greater than three, we prove that, under equal assumptions, the nef dimension of the canonical line bundle is maximal. With certain additional assumptions, ampleness is again obtained. The methods used come from both complex differential geometry and complex algebraic geometry.
In Part I of this paper we introduced the notion of the projective linking number Link(M,Z) of a compact oriented real submanifold M of dimension 2p-1 in complex projective n-space P^n with an algebraic subvariety Z of codimension p in P^n - M. It is shown here that a basic conjecture concerning the projective hull of real curves in P^2 implies the following result: M is the boundary of a positive holomorphic p-chain T of mass M(T) < K in P^n if and only if Link(M,Z) > -K p!deg(Z) for all algebraic subvarieties Z of codimension p in P^n - M. An analogous result is implied in any projective man…
We study codimension one holomorphic distributions on the projective three-space, analyzing the properties of their singular schemes and tangent sheaves. In particular, we provide a classification of codimension one distributions of degree at most 2 with locally free tangent sheaves, and show that codimension one distributions of arbitrary degree with only isolated singularities have stable tangent sheaves. Furthermore, we describe the moduli space of distributions in terms of Grothendieck's Quot-scheme for the tangent bundle. In certain cases, we show that the moduli space of codimension one …
In this paper we define strongly projectively flatness of holomorphic maps into the complex Grassmannian manifold, which is a kind of generalization of holomorphic maps into the complex projective space and prove a rigidity of equivariant strongly projectively flat maps of compact simply connected homogeneous Kähler manifolds.
Each of the four critical Severi varieties arises from a minimal holomorphic nilpotent orbit in a simple regular rank 3 hermitian Lie algebra and each such variety lies as singular locus in a cubic--the chordal variety--in the corresponding complex projective space; the cubic and projective space are identified in terms of holomorphic nilpotent orbits. The projective space acquires an exotic Kähler structure with three strata, the cubic is an example of an exotic projective variety with two strata, and the corresponding Severi variety is the closed stratum in the exotic variety as well as in t…
We introduce the notion of the projective linking number Link(M,Z) of a compact oriented real submanifold M of dimension 2p-1 in complex projective n-space P^n with an algebraic subvariety Z in P^n - M of codimension p. This notion is related to projective winding numbers and quasi-plurisubharmonic functions, and it generalizes directly from P^n to any projective manifold. Part 1 of this paper establishes the following result for the case p=1. Let M be an oriented, stable, real analytic curve in P^n. Then M is the boundary of a positive holomorphic 1-chain T with Mass(T) < K in P^n if and only…
