In continuation of our previous study [Phys. Rev. D 99 (2019) 4, 044012], we investigate the motion of charged particles in the $γ$-metric. We provide some examples of curled trajectories in the equatorial plane and escape trajectories outside the equatorial plane. Finally, we consider harmonic oscillations due to small displacements from stable circular orbits on the equatorial plane and compute the epicyclic frequencies for different values of deformation parameter and magnetic field.
We investigate the dynamics of a neutral and a charged particle around a black hole in modified gravity immersed in magnetic field. Our focus is on the scalar-tensor-vector theory as modified gravity. We are interested to explore the conditions on the energy of the particle under which it can escape to infinity after collision with another neutral particle in the vicinity of the black hole. We calculate escape velocity of particle orbiting in the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) after the collision. We study the effects of modified gravity on the dynamics of particles. Further we discuss…
Charged axially symmetric solution of the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic fields in the tetrad theory of gravitation is derived. The metric associated with this solution is an axially symmetric metric which is characterized by three parameters ``$ $the gravitational mass $M$, the charge parameter $Q$ and the rotation parameter $a$". The parallel vector fields and the electromagnetic vector potential are axially symmetric. We calculate the total exterior energy. The energy-momentum complex given by Møller in the framework of the Weitzenb$\ddot{o}$ck geometry ``$ ${\it characterized by…
This preprint mainly reflects the new chapter we are prepearing for the second edition of our book "Gravitational Solitons" (V. Belinski and E. Verdaguer). However, here it is written in the form of more or less self-consistent paper dedicated to the mathematical theory of black holes immersed in the external electromagnetic field. The purpose of this development is to describe the procedure by which one can construct a number of axially symmetric black holes or naked singularities arranged along the symmetry axis and immersed in an (also axially symmetric) external electromagnetic field.
In our previous work [N. Gürlebeck, M. Scholtz, Phys. Rev. D 95 064010 (2017)], we have shown that electric and magnetic fields are expelled from the horizons of extremal, stationary and axially symmetric uncharged black holes; this is called the Meissner effect for black holes. Here, we generalize this result in several directions. First, we allow that the black hole carries charge, which requires a generalization of the definition of the Meissner effect. Next, we introduce the notion of almost isolated horizons, which is weaker than the usual notion of isolated horizons, since the geometry o…
We explore the electromagnetic fields around a quasi-Kerr compact object assuming it is immersed in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. Using the Wald method, components of the electromagnetic field in orthonormal basis have been obtained. We explore the charged particle motion around deformed Kerr compact objects in the presence of external asymptotically uniform magnetic fields. Using the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, we obtain the effective potential expression for the charged particle surrounding a quasi-Kerr compact object immersed in an external magnetic field. It is also deri…
The dynamics of a charged particle moving around a slowly rotating Kerr black hole in the presence of an external magnetic field is investigated. We are interested to explore the conditions under which the charged particle can escape from the gravitational field of the black hole after colliding with another particle. The escape velocity of the charged particle in the innermost stable circular orbit is calculated. The effective potential and escape velocity of the charged particle with angular momentum in the presence of magnetic field is analyzed. This work serves as an extension of a precedi…
In order to test the role of large-scale magnetic fields in quasiperiodic oscillation phenomena observed in microquasars, we study oscillatory motion of charged particles in vicinity of a Schwarzschild black hole immersed into an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. We determine the fundamental frequencies of small harmonic oscillations of charged test particles around stable circular orbits in the equatorial plane of a magnetized black hole, and discuss the radial profiles of frequencies of the radial and latitudinal harmonic oscillations in dependence on the mass of the black hole…
This paper investigates the motion and acceleration of a particle that is electrically and magnetically charged, which rotates around a cylindrical black hole in the presence of an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field parallel to the z axis. Basically, the work considers the circular orbits of particles rotating around the central object and studies the dependence of the most internal stable circular orbits (ISCO) on the so-called magnetic coupling parameters, which are responsible for the interaction between the external magnetic field and magnetized and charged particles. It is als…
An exact charged solution with axial symmetry is obtained in the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR). The associated metric has the structure function $G(ξ)=1-ξ^2-2mAξ^3-q^2A^2ξ^4$. The fourth order nature of the structure function can make calculations cumbersome. Using a coordinate transformation we get a tetrad whose metric has the structure function in a factorisable form $(1-ξ^2)(1+r_{+}Aξ)(1+r_{-}Aξ)$ with $r_{\pm}$ as the horizons of Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m space-time. This new form has the advantage that its roots are now trivial to write down. Then, we study the s…
In this work, we consider a rotating charged black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. We consider the system to be immersed in non-magnetised, pressureless plasma. First, we evaluate the null geodesics in order to study the co-rotating and counter rotating photon orbits. Further, we analyse the null geodesics to calculate the celestial coordinates ($α, β$). The celestial coordinates are used to determine the black hole shadow radius ($R_s$). Thereafter, we observe and analyse the effects of black hole spacetime, perfect fluid dark matter and plasma parameters ($a$, $Q$, $χ$, $k$) on…
In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of particles in the background of non-rotating Konoplya and Zhidenko black hole that is immersed in an external uniform magnetic field. The work involves circular motion of electric and magnetic particles and particle acceleration. First the motion of electric charged particles is considered. The effective potential, energy and angular momentum expressions are obtained along with their graphs. The analysis of ISCO shows that radii of ISCO decrease with magnetic interaction parameter. Motion of magnetically charged particles has also been studied.
We investigate particle motion in the vicinity of a $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) black hole immersed in external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. It is well known that magnetic fields can strongly affect charged particle motion in the black hole vicinity due to the Lorenz force. We find that the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling gives rise to a similar effect, reducing the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) with respect to the purely relativistic Schwarzschild black hole. Further, we consider particle collisions in the black hole vicinity to determine the c…
We consider a stationary metric immersed in a uniform magnetic field and determine general expressions for the epicyclic frequencies of charged particles. Applications to the Kerr--Newman black hole is reach of physical consequences and reveals some new effects among which the existence of radially and vertically stable circular orbits in the region enclosed by the event horizon and the so-called {\textquotedblleft innermost\textquotedblright} stable circular orbit in the plane of symmetry.
We investigate the dynamics of neutral and charged test particles around axially symmetric magnetized black hole spacetime. We consider its electromagnetic field in the black hole vicinity and study its impact on the dynamics of test particles. We determine the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for neutral and charged test particles and show that the combined effect of black hole electric charge and magnetic field strongly affects the ISCO radius, thus shrinking its values. We also show that the ISCO radius of positively (negatively) charged particle initially gets increased…
Analytical solutions of Maxwell equations in background spacetime of black hole in braneworld immersed in external uniform magnetic field have been found. Influence of both magnetic and brane parameters on effective potential of the radial motion of charged test particle around slowly rotating black hole in braneworld immersed in uniform magnetic field has been investigated by using Hamilton-Jacobi method. Exact analytical solution for dependence of the radius of the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) $r_{\rm ISCO}$ from brane parameter for motion of test particle around nonrotating isola…
We introduce a systematic and direct procedure to generate hairy rotating black holes by deforming a spherically symmetric seed solution. We develop our analysis in the context of the gravitational decoupling approach, without resorting to the Newman-Janis algorithm. As examples of possible applications, we investigate how the Kerr black hole solution is modified by a surrounding fluid with conserved energy-momentum tensor. We find non-trivial extensions of the Kerr and Kerr-Newman black holes with primary hair. We prove that a rotating and charged black hole can have the same horizon as Kerr'…
We show how to reduce the general formulation of the mass-angular momentum-charge inequality, for axisymmetric initial data of the Einstein-Maxwell equations, to the known maximal case whenever a geometrically motivated system of equations admits a solution. It is also shown that the same reduction argument applies to the basic inequality yielding a lower bound for the area of black holes in terms of mass, angular momentum, and charge. This extends previous work by the authors [4] (arXiv:1401.3384), in which the role of charge was omitted. Lastly, we improve upon the hypotheses required for th…
The dynamics of charged particle in the vicinity of event horizon of a rotating charged black hole (BH) with gravitomagnetic charge from a class of vector-tensor theories of modified gravity immersed in an axially symmetric magnetic field (Bfield) has been studied. The presence of Bfield reduces the radii of innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of charged particle and the opposite phenomenon occurs due the parameter $β$ which describes the deviation of modified gravity considered here from the usual Einstein - Maxwell gravity also acts to increase the radius of ISCO. Angular momentum also pl…
We show that any magnetostatic axially symmetric solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations can be endowed with a specific charged fluid source of the Polanco et al type via a simple procedure requiring the knowledge of exclusively the magnetostatic seed spacetime. Using this procedure we construct yet another exact solution for a massive magnetic dipole surrounded by a static charged fluid which is different from the Polanco et al metric.
A pair of simple wave equations is presented for the symmetric gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations of a charged black hole. One of the equations is uncoupled, and the other has a source term given by the solution of the first equation. The derivation is presented in full detail for either axially symmetric or stationary perturbations, and is quite straightforward. This result is expected to have important applications in astrophysical models.
Conformastationary metrics have been derived by Perjes and by Israel and Wilson as source-free solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations. By analogy with the conformastatic metrics which have charged dust sources it was assumed that conformastationary metrics would be the external metrics of charged dust in steady motion. However for axially symmetric conformastationary metrics we show that, as well as moving dust, hoop tensions are always necessary to balance the centrifugal forces induced by the motion. Exact examples of conformastationary metrics with disk sources are worked out in full. …
The collision of test charged particles in the vicinity of an event horizon of a weakly magnetized non-rotating black hole with gravitomagnetic charge has been studied. The presence of the external magnetic field decreases the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) radii of charged particles. The opposite mechanism occurs when there is nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge. For a collision of charged particle moving at ISCO and the neutral particle falling from infinity the maximal collision energy can be decreased by gravitomagnetic charge in the presence of external asymptotically uniform mag…
In this paper we analyze the frequency shifts of the light emitted by particles describing stable circular geodesics around a static black hole immersed in an external magnetic field of arbitrary strength. This system is represented by the Ernst solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations. The presence of the magnetic field and its magnitude affects both the geodesics and the red-blueshifts of the light emitted by neutral or charged particles orbiting the black hole. When the magnetic field is turned off we recover the characteristic redshifts coming from particles orbiting a Schwarzschild blac…
In this paper, we investigate the Penrose process in the purlieus of the axially symmetric magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole for both neutral and charged particles. We start with the study of the geometry of the black hole and find the regions where the $g_{tt}$ component of the metric tensor is positive (i.e., $g_{tt}>0$). It is interestingly found that the condition $g_{tt}>0$ is fulfilled not only close to the event horizon known as the ergosphere but also far away from the event horizon in the silhouette of potential wells. We also show that as the dimensionless magnetic field $B$ i…
A new family of exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations for static axially symmetric spacetimes is presented. The metric functions of the solutions are explicitely computed and are simply written in terms of the oblate spheroidal coordinates. The solutions, obtained by applying the Ernst method of complex potentials, describe an infinite family of static charged dust disks with an inner edge. The energy density, pressure and charge density of all the disks of the family are everywhere well behaved, in such a way that the energy-momentum tensor fully agrees with all the energy conditi…
We discuss the static axially symmetric regular solutions, obtained recently in Einstein-Yang-Mills and Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory [1]. These asymptotically flat solutions are characterized by the winding number $n>1$ and the node number $k$ of the purely magnetic gauge field. The well-known spherically symmetric solutions have winding number $n=1$. The axially symmetric solutions satisfy the same relations between the metric and the dilaton field as their spherically symmetric counterparts. Exhibiting a strong peak along the $ρ$-axis, the energy density of the matter fields of the axi…
We study the circular orbits of charged particles around a weakly charged Schwarzschild black hole immersed in a weak, axisymmetric magnetic field. We start by reviewing the circular orbits of neutral particles and charged particles around only weakly charged and only weakly magnetized black holes. The case of a weakly magnetized and charged black hole is investigated then. In particular, we study the effect of the electromagnetic forces on the charged particles innermost stable circular orbits. We show that negative energy stable circular orbits are possible and that two bands of charged part…
In this paper, geodesic motion of the charged particles in the vicinity of event horizon of Schwarzschild anti-de-Sitter black hole (BH) with topological defects has been investigated. Weakly magnetized environment is considered in the surrounding of BH which only effects the motion of the particles and doesn't effect the geometry of the BH. Hence, particles are under the influence of gravity and electromagnetic forces. We have explored the effect of magnetic field on the trajectories of the particles and more importantly on the position of the innermost stable circular orbit. It is observed t…
We present a general study about the relation between the vorticity tensor and the Poynting vector of the electromagnetic field for axially symmetric stationary electrovacuum metrics. The obtained expressions allow to understand the role of the Poynting vector in the dragging of inertial frames. The particular case of the rotating massive charged magnetic dipole is analyzed in detail. In addition, the electric and magnetic parts of the Weyl tensor are calculated and the link between the later and the vorticity is established. Then we show that, in the vacuum case, the necessary and sufficient …
We consider the lagrangian of a self-interacting complex scalar field admitting generically Q-balls solutions. This model is extended by minimal coupling to electromagnetism and to gravity. A stationnary, axially-symmetric ansatz for the different fields is used in order to reduce the classical equations. The system of non-linear partial differential equations obtained becomes a boundary value problem by supplementing a suitable set of boundary conditions. We obtain numerical evidences that the angular excitations of uncharged Q-balls, which exist in flat space-time, get continuously deformed …

The existence of stationary solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov-Maxwell system which are axially symmetric but not spherically symmetric is proven by means of the implicit function theorem on Banach spaces. The proof generalises the methods of an article by Håkan Andréasson, Markus Kunze and Gerhard Rein where a similar result is obtained for uncharged particles. Among the solutions constructed in this article there are rotating and non-rotating ones. Static solutions exhibit an electric but no magnetic field. In the case of rotating solutions, in addition to the electric field, a purely poloidal…
The Einstein/Maxwell equations reduce in the stationary and axially symmetric case to a harmonic map with prescribed singularities phi: R^3Σ-> H^2_C, where Sigma is a subset of the axis of symmetry, and H^2_C is the complex hyperbolic plane. Motivated by this problem, we prove the existence and uniqueness of harmonic maps with prescribed singularities phi: R^nΣ-> H, where Sigma is a submanifold of R^n of co-dimension at least 2, and H is a classical Riemannian globally symmetric space of noncompact type and rank one. This result, when applied to the black hole problem, yields solutions which c…
We obtain an approximate solution for the motion of a charged particle around a Schwarzschild black hole immersed in a weak dipolar magnetic field. We focus on eccentric bound orbits in the equatorial plane of the Schwarzschild black hole and derive an analytic expression for the spectral distribution of the electromagnetic emission from a charged particle on such an orbit. Two sets of harmonic contributions appear, with specific frequency spacing. The expression can be written in compact form, if it is truncated up to the lowest order harmonic contributions.
An axially symmetric exact solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations is obtained and is interpreted to give the gravitational and electromagnetic fields of a charged tachyon. Switching off the charge parameter yields the solution for the uncharged tachyon which was earlier obtained by Vaidya. The null surfaces for the charged tachyon are discussed.
We study the circular orbits of charged particles around a weakly charged Kerr black hole immersed in a weak, axisymmetric magnetic field. Firstly, we review the circular orbits of neutral particles. We then review the circular orbits of charged particles around a weakly charged Kerr black hole and weakly magnetized Kerr black hole. The case of a weakly magnetized and charged black hole is investigated thereafter. We investigate, in particular, the effect of the electromagnetic forces on the charged particles' innermost stable circular orbits. We examine the conditions for the existence of neg…
An exact charged axially symmetric solution of the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic fields in the teleparallel equivalent of Einstein theory is derived. It is characterized by three parameters ``$ $the gravitational mass $M$, the charge parameter $Q$ and the rotation parameter $a$" and its associated metric gives Kerr-Newman spacetime. The parallel vector field and the electromagnetic vector potential are axially symmetric. We then, calculate the total energy using the gravitational energy-momentum. The energy is found to be shared by its interior as well as exterior. Switching off th…

The Plebański--Demiański solution is a very general axially symmetric analytical solution of the Einstein field equations generalizing the Kerr solution. This solution depends on seven parameters which under certain circumstances are related to mass, rotation, cosmological constant, NUT parameter, electric and magnetic charges, and acceleration. In this paper we present a general description of matter wave interferometry in the general Plebański--Demiański black hole space--time. Particular emphasis is placed on a gauge invariant description of the symmetries of the gauge field. We show that i…
We consider the electromagnetic field occurring in the background of a static, axially symmetric vacuum solution of Einstein's field equations immersed in an external magnetic field. The solution, known as the $γ$ metric (or Zipoy-Voorhees), is related to the Schwarzschild spacetime through a real positive parameter $γ$ that describes its departure from spherical symmetry. We study the motion of charged and uncharged particles in this spacetime and particle collision in the vicinity of the singular surface and compare with the corresponding result for Schwarzschild. We show that there is a sha…
In these lectures the properties of magnetically charged black holes are described. In addition to the standard Reissner-Nördstrom solution, there are new types of static black holes that arise in theories containing electrically charged massive vector mesons. These latter solutions have nontrivial matter fields outside the horizon; i.e., they are black holes with hair. While the solutions carrying unit magnetic charge are spherically symmetric, those with more than two units of magnetic charge are not even axially symmetric. These thus provide the first example of time-independent black hole …
Neutral test particles around a Schwarzschild black hole immersed in an external uniform magnetic field have no interactions of electromagnetic forces, but their motions can be chaotic. This chaotic behavior is induced owing to the gravitational effect of the magnetic field leading to the nonintegrability of the magnetized Ernst-Schwarzschild spacetime geometry. In fact, chaos is strengthened typically with an increase of the energy or the magnetic field under appropriate circumstances. When these test particles have charges, the electromagnetic forces are included. As a result, the electromag…
We show that the interior of a charged, spinning black hole formed from a general axially symmetric gravitational collapse is unstable to inflation of both its mass and angular momentum parameters. Although our results are formulated in the context of $(2+1)$-dimensional black holes, we argue that they are applicable to $(3+1)$ dimensions.
We describe a shielding mechanism for a charged black hole immersed in a background involving charged matter fields, solely arising from the Einstein-Maxwell field equations. In particular, we consider a charged generalization of the Einstein cluster, that is a charged black hole surrounded by an effective fluid model for a partially charged dust cloud. We show that the shielding mechanism, arising thereof, is generic and appears in a different parametrization of the problem as well. In this process, we provide the most general electrovacuum solution in a spacetime region devoid of charges, bu…
In this work, we study the shadow of Born-Infeld (BI) black holes with magnetic monopoles and Schwarzschild black holes immersed in the BI uniform magnetic field. Illuminated by a celestial sphere, black hole images are obtained by using the backward ray-tracing method. For magnetically charged BI black holes, we find that the shadow radius increases with the increase of nonlinear electromagnetics effects. For Schwarzschild black holes immersed in the BI uniform magnetic field, photons tend to move towards the axis of symmetric, resulting in stretched shadows along the equatorial plane.
In the present paper we construct a new solution to the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity equations describing electrically charged dilaton black holes immersed in a strong external magnetic field and we study its properties. The black holes described by the solution are rotating but with zero total angular momentum and possess an ergoregion confined in a neighborhood of the horizon. Our results also show that the external magnetic field does not affect the black hole thermodynamics.
We study the acceleration of an electric current-carrying and axially-symmetric string loop initially oscillating in the vicinity of a Schwarzschild black hole embedded in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. The plane of the string loop is orthogonal to the magnetic field lines and the acceleration of the string loop occurs due to the transmutation effect turning in the deep gravitational field the internal energy of the oscillating strings to the energy of their translational motion along the axis given by the symmetry of the black hole spacetime and the magnetic field. We rest…
We consider electromagnetic fields and charged particle dynamics around non-singular black holes in conformal gravity immersed in an external, asymptotically uniform magnetic field. First, we obtain analytic solutions of the electromagnetic field equation around rotating non-singular black holes in conformal gravity. We show that the radial components of the electric and magnetic fields increase with the increase of the parameters $L$ and $N$ of the black hole solution. Second, we study the dynamics of charged particles. We show that the increase of the values of the parameters $L$ and $N$ and…
This work is devoted to the study of the optical properties of the charged-rotating-NUT-Kiselev (CRNK) black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity. By investigating the motion of photons in the CRNK black hole spacetime in the Rastall gravity we show that the deflection angle of photons due to the gravitational lensing is mostly influenced by the NUT charge, parameter of the equation of state for the quintessence and the quintessential intensity. We observe that the effects of the rest of the spacetime parameters are negligible on the deflection angle. We present the shape of the shadow cast b…
