The Plebański--Demiański solution is a very general axially symmetric analytical solution of the Einstein field equations generalizing the Kerr solution. This solution depends on seven parameters which under certain circumstances are related to mass, rotation, cosmological constant, NUT parameter, electric and magnetic charges, and acceleration. In this paper we present a general description of matter wave interferometry in the general Plebański--Demiański black hole space--time. Particular emphasis is placed on a gauge invariant description of the symmetries of the gauge field. We show that it is possible to have access to all parameters separately except the acceleration. For neutral particles there is only access to a combination of electric and magnetic charge.
We consider a (non--Riemannian) metric--affine gravity theory, in particular its nonmetricity--torsion sector ``isomorphic'' to the Einstein--Maxwell theory. We map certain Einstein--Maxwell electrovacuum solutions to it, namely the Plebański--Demiański class of Petrov type D metrics.
Hawking radiation spectrum via fermions tunneling is investigated through horizon radii of Pleba$\acute{\textmd{n}}$ski-Demia$\acute{\textmd{n}}$ski family of black holes. To this end, we determine the tunneling probabilities for outgoing and incoming charged fermion particles and obtain their corresponding Hawking temperatures. The graphical behavior of Hawking temperatures and horizon radii (cosmological and event horizons) is also studied. We find consistent results with those already available in literature.
An exact expression of Lense-Thirring precession rate is derived for non-extremal and extremal Plebański-Demiański spacetimes. This formula is used to find the exact Lense-Thirring precession rate in various axisymmetric spacetimes, like: Kerr, Kerr-Newman, Kerr-de Sitter etc. We also show, if the Kerr parameter vanishes in Plebański-Demiański(PD) spacetime, the Lense-Thirring precession does not vanish due to the existence of NUT charge. To derive the LT precession rate in extremal Plebański-Demiański we first derive the general extremal condition for PD spacetimes. This general result could …
We first review the accelerating, rotating and charged Plebanski-Demianski (PD) black hole, which includes the Kerr-Newman rotating black hole and the Taub-NUT spacetime. The main feature of this black hole is that it has 4 horizons like event horizon, Cauchy horizon and two accelerating horizons. In the non-extremal case, the surface area, entropy, surface gravity, temperature, angular velocity, Komar energy and irreducible mass on the event horizon and Cauchy horizon are presented for PD black hole. The entropy product, temperature product, Komar energy product and irreducible mass product a…
In this paper, we show the flux of Hawking radiation in a Plebański-Demiański black hole from the point of view of gauge and gravitational anomalies. We will use the consistent anomaly method to guarantee that our results are valid in the de Sitter space. This is because we are including the cosmological constant into our parameters and the covariant anomaly method gives a wrong value for the Hawking temperature. We also show that these calculations are a general result. In order to verify the consistence of our results, we can reproduce earlier known results as certain limiting cases.
We explore various aspects of the self-dual Plebański-Demiański family in the Euclidean Einstein-Maxwell-$Λ$ system. The Killing-Yano tensor which was recently found by Yasui and one of the present authors allows us to prove that the self-dual Plebański-Demiański metric can be brought into the self-dual Carter metric by an orientation-reversing coordinate transformation. We show that the self-dual Plebański-Demiański solution admits two independent Killing spinors in the framework of $N=2$ minimal gauged supergravity, whereas the non-self-dual solution admits only a single Killing spinor. This…
Analogies between gravitation and electromagnetism have been known since the 1950s. Here, we examine a fairly general type D solution---the exact seven parameter solution of Plebański--Demiański (PD)---to demonstrate these analogies for a physically meaningful spacetime: The two quadratic curvature invariants $\bf{B}^2-\bf{E}^2$ and $\bf{E}\cdot\bf{B}$ are evaluated analytically. In the asymptotically flat case, the leading terms of $\bf{E}$ and $\bf{B}$ can be interpreted as gravitoelectric mass and gravitoelectric current of the PD solution, respectively, if there are no gravitomagnetic mono…
The aim of this work is to describe the complete family of non-expanding Plebanski-Demianski type D space-times and to present their possible interpretation. We explicitly express the most general form of such (electro)vacuum solutions with any cosmological constant, and we investigate the geometrical and physical meaning of the seven parameters they contain. We present various metric forms, and by analyzing the corresponding coordinates in the weak-field limit we elucidate the global structure of these space-times, such as the character of possible singularities. We also demonstrate that memb…
We construct Plebański-Demiański stationary and axisymmetric solutions with two expanding and double principal null directions in the framework of Metric-Affine gauge theory of gravity. Starting from the new improved form of the metric with vanishing cosmological constant recently achieved by Podolský and Vrátný, we extend this form in the presence of a cosmological constant and derive the conditions under which the physical sources of the torsion and nonmetricity tensors provide dynamical contributions preserving it in Weyl-Cartan geometry. The resulting black hole configurations are characte…
We first review the general class of accelerating, rotating and charged Plebanski-Demianski (PD) black holes in presence of cosmological constant, which includes the Kerr-Newman rotating black hole and the Taub-NUT spacetime. We assume that the thermodynamical pressure may be described by the negative cosmological constant and so the black hole represents anti-de Sitter (AdS) PD black hole. The thermodynamic quantities like surface area, entropy, volume, temperature, Gibb's and Helmholtz's free energies of the AdS PD black hole are obtained due to the thermodynamic system. Next we find the cri…
An exact solution of Einstein's equations which represents a pair of accelerating and rotating black holes (a generalised form of the spinning C-metric) is presented. The starting point is a form of the Plebanski-Demianski metric which, in addition to the usual parameters, explicitly includes parameters which describe the acceleration and angular velocity of the sources. This is transformed to a form which explicitly contains the known special cases for either rotating or accelerating black holes. Electromagnetic charges and a NUT parameter are included, the relation between the NUT parameter …
We find a class of electrically charged exact solutions for a toy model of metric-affine gravity. Their metric is of the Plebański-Demiański type and their nonmetricity and torsion are represented by a triplet of covectors with dilation, shear, and spin charges.
The complete sets of analytic solutions of the geodesic equation in Taub--NUT--(anti-)de Sitter, Kerr--(anti-)de Sitter and also in general Plebanski--Demianski space--times without acceleration are presented. The solutions are given in terms of the Kleinian sigma functions.
In an earlier paper we have analytically determined the photon regions and the shadows of black holes of the Plebański class of metrics which are also known as the Kerr--Newman--NUT--(anti-)deSitter metrics. These metrics are characterized by six parameters: mass, spin, electric and magnetic charge, gravitomagnetic NUT charge, and the cosmological constant. Here we extend this analysis to the Plebański--Demiański class of metrics which contains, in addition to these six parameters, the so-called acceleration parameter. All these metrics are axially symmetric and stationary type D solutions to …
We extend the topological Kerr-Newman-aDS solutions by including NUT charge and find generalizations of the Robinson-Bertotti solution to the negative cosmological constant case with different topologies. We show how all these solutions can be obtained as limits of the general Plebanski-Demianski solution. We study the supersymmetry properties of all these solutions in the context of gauged N=2,d=4 supergravity. Generically they preserve at most 1/4 of the total supersymmetry. In the Plebanski-Demianski case, although gauged N=2,d=4 supergravity does not have electric-magnetic duality, we find…
A simple procedure is given to construct curved, non-self-dual (complexified) Kaehler metrics on space-time in terms of deformations of holomorphic quadric surfaces in flat twistor space. Imposing Lorentzian reality conditions, the Schwarzschild, Kerr, and Plebanski-Demianski space-times (among others) are derived as examples of the construction.
An exact solution of Einsteins equations which represents a pair of accelerating and rotating black holes was presented by J. B. Griffiths and J. Podolsky [2]. In the paper [2] they have shown the explicit form of a spinning C-metric starting from the Plebanski-Demianski metric, and transformed it using NUT and angular velocity parameters in addition to the usual parameters and thus gave a generalized form of such solutions. In the forthcoming discussion, an attempt has been made to realize the Riemann components of the proposed metric. Furthermore, certain optical characteristics of the metri…
The complete family of exact solutions representing accelerating and rotating black holes with possible electromagnetic charges and a NUT parameter is known in terms of a modified Plebanski-Demianski metric. This demonstrates the singularity and horizon structure of the sources but not that the complete space-time describes two causally separated black holes. To demonstrate this property, the metric is first cast in the Weyl-Lewis-Papapetrou form. After extending this up to the acceleration horizon, it is then transformed to the boost-rotation-symmetric form in which the global properties of t…
We present a new class of four-dimensional AdS black holes with non-compact event horizons of finite area. The event horizons are topologically spheres with one puncture, with the puncture pushed to infinity in the form of a cusp. Because of the shape of their event horizons, we call such black holes "black bottles". The solution was obtained as a special case of the Plebanski-Demianski solution, and may describe either static or rotating black bottles. For certain ranges of parameters, an acceleration horizon may also appear in the space-time. We study the full parameter space of the solution…
Asymptotic behaviour of gravitational and electromagnetic fields of exact type D solutions from the large Plebanski-Demianski family of black hole spacetimes is analyzed. The amplitude and directional structure of radiation is evaluated in cases when the cosmological constant is non-vanishing, so that the conformal infinities have either de Sitter-like or anti-de Sitter-like character. In particular, explicit relations between the parameters that characterize the sources (that is their mass, electric and magnetic charges, NUT parameter, rotational parameter, and acceleration) and properties of…
The spinning C-metric was discovered by Plebanski and Demianski as a generalization of the standard C-metric which is known to represent uniformly accelerated non-rotating black holes. We first transform the spinning C-metric into Weyl coordinates and analyze some of its properties as Killing vectors and curvature invariants. A transformation is then found which brings the metric into the canonical form of the radiative spacetimes with the boost-rotation symmetry. By analytically continuing the metric across "acceleration horizons", two new regions of the spacetime arise in which both Killing …
For an investigation of the physical properties of gravitational fields the observation of massive test particles and light is very useful. The characteristic features of a given space-time may be decoded by studying the complete set of all possible geodesic motions. Such a thorough analysis can be accomplished most effectively by using analytical methods to solve the geodesic equation. In this contribution, the use of elliptic functions and their generalizations for solving the geodesic equation in a wide range of well known space-times, which are part of the general Plebański-Demiański famil…
We present a brief overview of black hole spacetimes admitting Killing-Yano tensors. In vacuum these include Kerr-NUT-(A)dS metrics and certain black brane solutions. In the presence of matter fields, (conformal) Killing-Yano symmetries are known to exist for the Plebanski-Demianski solution and (trivially) for any spacetime with spherical symmetry. Special attention is devoted to generalized Killing-Yano tensors of black holes in minimal gauged supergravity. Several aspects directly related to the existence of Killing-Yano tensors, such as the Kerr-Schild form, algebraic type of spacetimes, a…
The Chong-Cvetic-Lu-Pope 5D rotating charged black hole proves to belong to a set of solutions to Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons (EMCS) equations that share the electromagnetic potential and the Chern-Simons coupling constant but differ in the Kretschmann invariant. This one-parametric family of solutions is found by proposing a properly deformed Plebanski-Demianski Ansatz for modeling the metric tensor. While no black-hole solutions for other values of the Chern-Simons coupling constant are found within this Ansatz, another type of non-static electrovacuum solutions to 5D EMCS equations are ob…
We demonstrate separability of conformally coupled scalar field equation in general (off-shell) Kerr-NUT-AdS spacetimes in all dimensions. The separability is intrinsically characterized by the existence of a complete set of mutually commuting conformal wave operators that can be constructed from a hidden symmetry of the principal Killing-Yano tensor. By token of conformal symmetry, the separability also works for any Weyl rescaled (off-shell) metrics. This is especially interesting in four dimensions where it guarantees separability of a conformally coupled scalar field in the general Plebans…
In this review we present the most general form of the Janis--Newman algorithm. This extension allows to generate configurations which contain all bosonic fields with spin less than or equal to two (real and complex scalar fields, gauge fields, metric field) and with five of the six parameters of the Plebański-Demiański metric (mass, electric charge, magnetic charge, NUT charge and angular momentum). Several examples are included to illustrate the algorithm. We also discuss the extension of the algorithm to other dimensions.
In this work we study the local behavior of geodesics in the neighborhood of a curvature singularity contained in stationary and axially symmetric space-times. Apart from these properties, the metrics we shall focus on will also be required to admit a quadratic first integral for their geodesics. In particular, we search for the conditions on the geometry of the space-time for which null and time-like geodesics can reach the singularity. These conditions are determined by the equations of motion of a freely-falling particle. We also analyze the possible existence of geodesics that do not becom…
We present a new five-parameter class of Ricci-flat solutions in four dimensions with Euclidean signature. The solution is asymptotically locally flat (ALF), and contains a finite asymptotic NUT charge. When this charge is sent to infinity, the solution becomes asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE), and one in fact obtains the Ricci-flat Plebanski-Demianski solution. The solution we have found can thus be regarded as an ALF generalisation of the latter solution. We also show that it can be interpreted as a system consisting of two touching Kerr-NUTs: the south pole of one Kerr-NUT touches the…
The periastron shift and the Lense-Thirring effect of bound orbital motion in a general axially symmetric space-time given by Plebański and Demiański are analyzed. We also define a measure for the conicity of the orbit and give analytic expressions for all three observables in terms of hyperelliptic integrals and Lauricella's $F_D$ function. For an interpretation of these analytical expressions, we perform a post-Schwarzschild and a post-Newton expansion of these quantities. This clearly shows the influence of the different space-time parameters on the considered observables and allows to char…
The observation of the motion of particles and light near a gravitating object is until now the only way to explore and to measure the gravitational field. In the case of exact black hole solutions of the Einstein equations the gravitational field is characterized by a small number of parameters which can be read off from the observables related to the orbits of test particles and light rays. Here we review the state of the art of analytical solutions of geodesic equations in various space--times. In particular we consider the four dimensional black hole space--times of Plebański--Demiański ty…
A de Sitter black hole or a black hole spacetime endowed with a positive cosmological constant has two Killing horizons -- a black hole and a cosmological event horizon surrounding it. It is natural to expect that the total Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of such spacetimes should be the sum of the two horizons' areas. In this work we apply the recently developed formalism using the Gibbons-Hawking-York boundary term and the near horizon symmetries to derive the total entropy of such two horizon spacetimes. We construct a suitable general geometric set up for general stationary axisymmetric spaceti…
Using the general recipe given in arXiv:0804.0009, where all timelike supersymmetric solutions of N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity coupled to abelian vector multiplets were classified, we construct genuine rotating supersymmetric black holes in AdS(4) with nonconstant scalar fields. This is done for the SU(1,1)/U(1) model with prepotential F=-iX^0X^1. In the static case, the black holes are uplifted to eleven dimensions, and generalize the solution found in hep-th/0105250 corresponding to membranes wrapping holomorphic curves in a Calabi-Yau five-fold. The constructed rotating black holes preserve…
A new class of four-dimensional, hairy, stationary solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell-Lambda system with a conformally coupled scalar field is constructed in this paper. The metric belongs to the Plebanski-Demianski family and hence its static limit has the form of the charged C-metric. It is shown that, in the static case, a new family of hairy black holes arises. They turn out to be cohomogeneity-two, with horizons that are neither Einstein nor homogenous manifolds. The conical singularities in the C-metric can be removed due to the back reaction of the scalar field providing a new kind of re…
In [arXiv:0803.3259] the equations describing the parallel transport of orthonormal frames along timelike (spacelike) geodesics in a spacetime admitting a non-degenerate principal conformal Killing-Yano 2-form h were solved. The construction employed is based on studying the Darboux subspaces of the 2-form F obtained as a projection of h along the geodesic trajectory. In this paper we demonstrate that, although slightly modified, a similar construction is possible also in the case of null geodesics. In particular, we explicitly construct the parallel-transported frames along null geodesics in …
We construct new stationary Ricci-flat metrics of cohomogeneity 2 in five dimensions, which generalise the Myers-Perry rotating black hole metrics by adding a further non-trivial parameter. We obtain them via a construction that is analogous to the construction by Plebanski and Demianski in four dimensions of the most general type D metrics. Limiting cases of the new metrics contain not only the general Myers-Perry black hole with independent angular momenta, but also the single rotation black ring of Emparan and Reall. In another limit, we obtain new static metrics that describe black holes w…
We extend our previous work in which we derived the most general form of an induced metric describing the geometry of an axially symmetric extremal isolated horizon (EIH) in asymptotically flat spacetime. Here we generalize it to EIHs in asymptotically (anti-)de Sitter spacetime. The resulting metric conveniently forms a 6-parameter family which, in addition to a cosmological constant $Λ$, depends on the area of the horizon, total electric and magnetic charges, and two deficit angles representing conical singularities at poles. Such a metric is consistent with results obtained in the context o…
We investigate the Kerr-Newman-NUT black hole solution obtained from Plebański-Demiański solutions with several assumptions. The origin of the microscopic entropy of this black hole is investigated using the conjectured Kerr/CFT correspondence which is originally proposed for extremal Kerr black holes. The isometry of the near-horizon extremal Kerr-Newman-NUT black hole shows that the asymptotic symmetry group may be implemented to compute the central charge of the Virasoro algebra. Furthermore, by assuming Frolov-Thorne vacuum, the conformal temperatures can be obtained. Then by using the Car…
AdS black holes with planar event horizon topology play a central role in AdS/CFT holography, and particularly in its applications. Generalisations of the known planar black holes can be found by considering the Plebanski--Demianski metrics, a very general family of exactly specified solutions of the Einstein equations. These generalised planar black holes may be useful in applications. We give a concrete example of this in the context of the holographic description of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). We argue that our generalised planar black holes allow us to construct a model of the internal s…
We study solutions in the Plebański--Demiański family which describe an accelerating, rotating and dyonically charged black hole in $AdS_4$. These are solutions of $D=4$ Einstein-Maxwell theory with a negative cosmological constant and hence minimal $D=4$ gauged supergravity. It is well known that when the acceleration is non-vanishing the $D=4$ black hole metrics have conical singularities. By uplifting the solutions to $D=11$ supergravity using a regular Sasaki-Einstein $7$-manifold, $SE_7$, we show how the free parameters can be chosen to eliminate the conical singularities. Topologically, …
