We show how to efficiently send an M-partite entangled state along a spin chain of arbitrary size. Specifically, we show how an entangled M-partite W sate can be almost flawlessly transmitted from one end (Alice) to the other end (Bob) of a spin-1/2 chain described by a slightly modified XX model. We achieve an almost perfect transmission without employing external magnetic fields or modulating the coupling constants among the spins of the chain, the two standard approaches used to achieve a good transmission efficiency. Moreover, the protocol here proposed can be used to transform an M-partite W state with Alice into an M'-partite one with Bob (M different from M'). We also investigate the proposed protocol's response to several types of disorder and noise and show that it is quite robust to small deviations about the coupling constants of the optimal ordered and noiseless case.
We investigate multipartite entanglement dynamics in disordered spin-1/2 lattice models exhibiting a transition from integrability to quantum chaos. Borrowing from the recently introduced generalized entanglement framework, we construct measures for correlations relative to arbitrary local and bi-local spin observables, and show how they naturally signal the crossover between distinct dynamical regimes. In particular, we find that the generation of global entanglement is directly ruled by the local density of states in the short time limit, whereas the asymptotic amount of entanglement is prop…
We present a protocol in which two or more parties can share multipartite entanglement over noisy quantum channels. The protocol is based on the entanglement purification presented by Shor and Preskill [Phys. Rev. Lett. 85, 441 (2000)] and the quantum teleportation via an isotropic state. We show that a nearly perfect purification implies a nearly perfect sharing of multipartite entanglement between two parties so that the protocol can assure a faithful sharing of multipartite entanglement with Shor and Preskill's proof on the entanglement purification.
Suppose that $m$ senders want to transmit classical information to $n$ receivers with zero probability of error using a noisy multipartite communication channel. The senders are allowed to exchange classical, but not quantum, messages among themselves, and the same holds for the receivers. If the channel is classical, a single use can transmit information if and only if multiple uses can. In sharp contrast, we exhibit, for each $m$ and $n$ with $m\ge 2$ or $n\ge 2$, a quantum channel of which a single use is not able to transmit information yet two uses can. This latter property requires and i…
We present a scheme for multipartite entanglement purification of quantum systems in a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state with quantum nondemolition detectors (QNDs). This scheme does not require the controlled-not gates which cannot be implemented perfectly with linear optical elements at present, but QNDs based on cross-Kerr nonlinearities. It works with two steps, i.e., the bit-flipping error correction and the phase-flipping error correction. These two steps can be iterated perfectly with parity checks and simple single-photon measurements. This scheme does not require the parties to posses…
We develop a protocol based on 2M pairwise interacting qubits, which through Quantum Zeno Effect controls the entanglement distribution of the system. We also show that if the coupling constants are different the QZE may be used to achieve perfect entanglement swap.
We study maximally multipartite entangled states in the context of Gaussian continuous variable quantum systems. By considering multimode Gaussian states with constrained energy, we show that perfect maximally multipartite entangled states, which exhibit the maximum amount of bipartite entanglement for all bipartitions, only exist for systems containing n=2 or 3 modes. We further numerically investigate the structure of these states and their frustration for n<=7.
We examine the perfect cloning of non-local, orthogonal states with only local operations and classical communication. We provide a complete characterisation of the states that can be cloned under these restrictions, and their relation to distinguishability. We also consider the case of catalytic cloning, which we show provides no enhancement to the set of clonable states.
Recently, the problem of discriminating multipartite unitary operations by local operations and classical communication (LOCC) has attracted significant attention. The latest work in the literature on this problem showed that two multipartite unitary operations can always be perfectly distinguished by LOCC when a finite number of runs are allowable. However, in these schemes, local entanglement (an entangled state holden by one party) was required, which seems to imply that local entanglement is necessary for perfect discrimination between unitary operations by LOCC. In this article, we show t…
Recently using entanglement as resource to distinguish orthogonal product states by local operations and classical communication (LOCC) has been studied intensively. Zhang. et al. presented protocols to use entanglement to distinguish certain classes of orthogonal product states in $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes \mathbb{C}^n$\cite{Zhang016}. In this paper, we study local distinguishability of multipartite orthogonal product states and provide a practical solution. Our method relies upon a special class of locally indistinguishable multipartite product states introduced by Wang et. al. to build a protoco…
In the usual tomography of multipartite entangled quantum states one assumes that the measurement devices used in the laboratory are under perfect control of the experimenter. In this paper, using the so-called SWAP concept introduced recently, we show how one can remove this assumption in realistic experimental conditions and nevertheless be able to characterize the produced multipartite state based only on observed statistics. Such a black box tomography of quantum states is termed self-testing. As a function of the magnitude of the Bell violation, we are able to self-test emblematic multipa…
We look into multipartite quantum states on which quantum cryptographic protocols including quantum key distribution and quantum secret sharing can be perfectly performed, and define the quantum cryptographic resource distillable rate as the asymptotic rate at which such multipartite state can be distilled from a given multipartite state. Investigating several relations between entanglement and the rate, we show that there exists a multipartite bound entangled state whose quantum cryptographic resource distillable rate is strictly positive, that is, there exists a multipartite entangled state …
How correlated are two quantum systems from the perspective of a third? We answer this by providing an optimal quantum state redistribution protocol for multipartite product sources. Specifically, given an arbitrary quantum state of three systems, where Alice holds two and Bob holds one, we identify the cost, in terms of quantum communication and entanglement, for Alice to give one of her parts to Bob. The communication cost gives the first known operational interpretation to quantum conditional mutual information. The optimal procedure is self-dual under time reversal and is perfectly composa…
The entanglement resource required for quantum information processing comes in a variety of forms, from Bell states to multipartite GHZ states or cluster states. Purifying these resources after their imperfect generation is an indispensable step towards using them in quantum architectures. While this challenge, both in the case of Bell pairs and more general multipartite entangled states, is mostly overcome in the presence of perfect local quantum hardware with unconstrained qubit register sizes, devising optimal purification strategies for finite-size realistic noisy hardware has remained elu…
The distribution of high-quality Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states is at the heart of many quantum communication tasks, ranging from extending the baseline of telescopes to secret sharing. They also play an important role in error-correction architectures for distributed quantum computation, where Bell pairs can be leveraged to create an entangled network of quantum computers. We investigate the creation and distillation of GHZ states out of non-perfect Bell pairs over quantum networks. In particular, we introduce a heuristic dynamic programming algorithm to optimize over a large class …
An interesting aspect of multipartite entanglement is that for perfect teleportation and superdense coding, not the maximally entangled W states but a special class of non-maximally entangled W-like states are required. Therefore, efficient preparation of such W-like states is of great importance in quantum communications, which has not been studied as much as the preparation of W states. In this letter, we propose a simple optical scheme for efficient preparation of large-scale polarization based entangled W-like states by fusing two W-like states or expanding a W-like state with an ancilla p…
Genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) is considered a powerful form of entanglement since it corresponds to those states that are not biseparable, i.e.\ a mixture of partially separable states across different bipartitions of the parties. In this work we study this phenomenon in the multiple-copy regime, where many perfect copies of a given state can be produced and controlled. In this scenario the above definition leads to subtle intricacies as biseparable states can be GME-activatable, i.e.\ several copies of a biseparable state can display GME. We show that the set of GME-activatable stat…
We study the possibility of performing perfect teleportation of unknown quantum states from multiple senders to a single receiver with a previously shared stabilizer state. In the model we considered, the utilized stabilizer state is partitioned into several subsystems and then each subsystem is distributed to a distinct party. We present two sufficient conditions for a stabilizer state to achieve a given nonzero teleportation capacity with respect to a given partition plan. The corresponding teleportation protocols are also explicitly given. Interestingly, we find that even mixed stabilizer s…
We study the distinguishability norms associated to families of locally restricted POVMs on multipartite systems. These norms (introduced by Matthews, Wehner and Winter) quantify how quantum measurements, subject to locality constraints, perform in the task of discriminating two multipartite quantum states. We mainly address the following question regarding the behaviour of these distinguishability norms in the high-dimensional regime: On a bipartite space, what are the relative strengths of standard classes of locally restricted measurements? We show that the class of PPT measurements typical…
We demonstrate the capability of continuous variable Gaussian states to communicate multipartite quantum information. A quantum teamwork protocol is presented according to which an arbitrary possibly entangled multimode state can be faithfully teleported between two teams each comprising many cooperative users. We prove that N-mode Gaussian weighted graph states exist for arbitrary N, that enable unconditional quantum teamwork implementations for any arrangement of the teams. These perfect continuous variable maximally multipartite entangled resources are typical among pure Gaussian states and…
We study a quantum switch that distributes maximally entangled multipartite states to sets of users. The entanglement switching process requires two steps: first, each user attempts to generate bipartite entanglement between itself and the switch; and second, the switch performs local operations and a measurement to create multipartite entanglement for a set of users. In this work, we study a simple variant of this system, wherein the switch has infinite memory and the links that connect the users to the switch are identical. Further, we assume that all quantum states, if generated successfull…
Multipartite cryptography is useful for some particular missions. In this paper, we present a quantum key distribution scheme in which three separated observers can securely share a set of keys by using a sequence of $3$-particle GHZ states. We prove that the violation of Svetlichny's inequality can be utilized to test for eavesdropping, and even when the eavesdropper can completely control the outcomes of two participants' measurements, our scheme still ensures the security of the keys distribution. This scheme can be easily extended to the case of $N$-party keys distribution, and the violati…
We find that the asymptotic entanglement of assistance of a general bipartite mixed state is equal to the smaller of its two local entropies. Our protocol gives rise to the asymptotically optimal EPR pair distillation procedure for a given tripartite pure state, and we show that it actually yields EPR and GHZ states; in fact, under a restricted class of protocols, which we call "one-way broadcasting", the GHZ-rate is shown to be optimal. This result implies a capacity theorem for quantum channels where the environment helps transmission by broadcasting the outcome of an optimally chosen measur…
We report dynamical quantum phase transition portrait in the alternating field transverse XY spin chain with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction by investigating singularities in the Loschmidt echo and the corresponding rate function after a sudden quench of system parameters. Unlike the Ising model, the analysis of Loschmidt echo yields non-uniformly spaced transition times in this model. Comparative study between the equilibrium and the dynamical quantum phase transitions in this case reveals that there are quenches where one occurs without the other, and the regimes where they co-exist. Howev…
Disordered systems form one of the centrestages of research in many body sciences and lead to a plethora of interesting phenomena and applications. A paradigmatic disordered system consists of an one-dimensional array of quantum spin-1/2 particles, governed by the Heisenberg spin glass Hamiltonian with natural or engineered quenched disordered couplings in an external magnetic field. These systems allow disorder-induced enhancement for bipartite and multipartite observables. Here we show that simultaneous application of independent quenched disorders results in disorder-induced enhancement, wh…
The thesis includes the original results of our articles [30, 37, 40, 42, 51, 53, 75]. A method is developed to compute analytically entanglement measures of three-qubit pure states. Owing to it closed-form expressions are presented for the geometric measure of entanglement for three-qubit states that are linear combinations of four orthogonal product states. It turns out that the geometric measure for these states has three different expressions depending on the range of definition in parameter space and the Hilbert space of three-qubits consists of three different entangled regions. The stat…
We study quantum-state transfer in $XX$ spin-$1/2$ chains where both communicating spins are weakly coupled to a channel featuring disordered on-site magnetic fields. Fluctuations are modelled by long-range correlated sequences with self-similar profile obeying a power-law spectrum. We show that the channel is able to perform an almost perfect quantum-state transfer in most of the samples even in the presence of significant amounts of disorder provided the degree of those correlations is strong enough. In that case, we also show that the lack of mirror symmetry does not affect much the likelih…
Nonlocality without entanglement and its subsequent generalizations offer deep information-theoretic insights and subsequently find several useful applications. Concept of genuinely nonlocal set of product states emerges as a natural multipartite generalization of this phenomenon. Existence of such sets eventually motivates the problem concerning their entanglement-assisted discrimination. Here, we construct examples of genuinely nonlocal product states for arbitrary number of parties. Strength of genuine nonlocality of these sets can be considered minimal as their perfect discrimination is po…
We present very simple method for constructing indecomposable entanglement witnesses out of a given pair -- an entanglement witness W and the corresponding state detected by W. This method may be used to produce new classes of atomic witnesses which are able to detect the `weakest' quantum entanglement. Actually, it works perfectly in the multipartite case, too. Moreover, this method provides a powerful tool for constructing new examples of bound entangled states.
Improving the probabilistic quantum teleportation efficiency of arbitrary superposed coherent state using multipartite even and odd j-spin coherent states as resource
Anderson localisation is an important phenomenon arising in many areas of physics, and here we explore it in the context of quantum information devices. Finite dimensional spin chains have been demonstrated to be important devices for quantum information transport, and in particular can be engineered to allow for "perfect state transfer" (PST). Here we present extensive investigations of disordered PST spin chains, demonstrating spatial localisation and transport retardation effects, and relate these effects to conventional Anderson localisation. We provide thresholds for Anderson localisation…
We investigate disordered one- and two-dimensional Heisenberg spin lattices across a transition from integrability to quantum chaos from both a statistical many-body and a quantum-information perspective. Special emphasis is devoted to quantitatively exploring the interplay between eigenvector statistics, delocalization, and entanglement in the presence of nontrivial symmetries. The implications of basis dependence of state delocalization indicators (such as the number of principal components) is addressed, and a measure of {\em relative delocalization} is proposed in order to robustly charact…
I consider the problem of deterministically distinguishing the state of a multipartite system, from a set of $N\ge d+1$ orthogonal states, where $d$ is the dimension of each party's subsystem. It is shown that if the set of orthogonal states is chosen at random, then there is a vanishing probability that this set will be perfectly distinguishable under the restriction that the parties use only local operations on their subsystems and classical communication amongst themselves.
Topological order in a 2d quantum matter can be determined by the topological contribution to the entanglement Rényi entropies. However, when close to a quantum phase transition, its calculation becomes cumbersome. Here we show how topological phase transitions in 2d systems can be much better assessed by multipartite entanglement, as measured by the topological geometric entanglement of blocks. Specifically, we present an efficient tensor network algorithm based on Projected Entangled Pair States to compute this quantity for a torus partitioned into cylinders, and then use this method to find…
Holographic systems require monogamous mutual information for validity of semiclassical geometry. This is encoded by the sign of the tripartite information ($I3$). We investigate the behaviour of $I3$ for all partitionings of systems in states which are highly entangled in a multipartite or bipartite sense. In the case of multipartite entanglement we propose an algorithmic construction that we conjecture can be used to build local maxima of $I3$ for any partitioning. In case of bipartite entanglement we classify the possible values of $I3$ for perfect states and investigate, in some examples, …
We conclude our analysis of the linear response of charge transport in lattice systems of free fermions subjected to a random potential by deriving general mathematical properties of its conductivity at the macroscopic scale. The present paper belongs to a succession of studies on Ohm and Joule's laws from a thermodynamic viewpoint. We show, in particular, the existence and finiteness of the conductivity measure $μ_{\mathbf{Σ}}$ for macroscopic scales. Then we prove that, similar to the conductivity measure associated to Drude's model, $μ_{\mathbf{Σ}}$ converges in the weak$^{\ast } $-topology…
We investigate the effect of disorder on the transfer of quantum states across a one-dimensional lattice with varying levels of control resources. We find that the application of properly designed control signals, even when applied only to the two ends of the lattice, allows perfect state transfer up to disorder strengths that would not allow a generic quantum state to propagate the length of the lattice. At sufficiently large disorder strengths, however, the local control signals fail to send the quantum state from one end of the system to the other end. Our results shed light on the interpla…
The coherent transport of $n$ fermions in disordered networks of $l$ single-particle states connected by $k$-body interactions is studied. These networks are modeled by embedded Gaussian random matrix ensemble (EGE). The conductance bandwidth as well as the ensemble-averaged total current attain their maximal values if the system is highly filled $n \sim l-1$ and $k\sim n/2$. For the cases $k=1$ and $k=n$ the bandwidth is minimal. We show that for all parameters the transport is enhanced significantly whenever centrosymmetric ensemble (csEGE) are considered. In this case the transmission shows…
We study a theoretical model of closed quasi-hermitian chain of spins which exhibits quantum analogues of chimera states, i.e. long life classical states for which a part of an oscillator chain presents an ordered dynamics whereas another part presents a disordered chaotic dynamics. For the quantum analogue, the chimera behavior deals with the entanglement between the spins of the chain. We discuss the entanglement properties, quantum chaos, quantum disorder and semi-classical similarity of our quantum chimera system. The quantum chimera concept is novel and induces new perspectives concerning…
We propose a class of non-integrable quantum spin chain models that exhibit quantum many-body scars even in the presence of disorder. With the use of the so-called Onsager symmetry, we construct such scarred models for arbitrary spin quantum number $ S $. There are two types of scar states, namely, coherent states associated to an Onsager-algebra element and one-magnon scar states. While both of them are highly-excited states, they have area-law entanglement and can be written as a matrix product state. Therefore, they explicitly violate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. We also invest…
We study the average density of resonances (DOR) of a disordered one-dimensional continuous open system. The disordered system is semi-infinite, with white-noise random potential, and it is coupled to the external world by a semi-infinite continuous perfect lead. Our main result is an integral representation for the DOR which involves the probability density function of the logarithmic derivative of the wave function at the contact point.
