We examine the perfect cloning of non-local, orthogonal states with only local operations and classical communication. We provide a complete characterisation of the states that can be cloned under these restrictions, and their relation to distinguishability. We also consider the case of catalytic cloning, which we show provides no enhancement to the set of clonable states.
We investigate the optimal distribution of quantum information over multipartite systems in asymmetric settings. We introduce cloning transformations that take $N$ identical replicas of a pure state in any dimension as input, and yield a collection of clones with non-identical fidelities. As an example, if the clones are partitioned into a set of $M_A$ clones with fidelity $F^A$ and another set of $M_B$ clones with fidelity $F^B$, the trade-off between these fidelities is analyzed, and particular cases of optimal $N \to M_A+M_B$ cloning machines are exhibited. We also present an optimal $1 \to…
Some multipartite quantum states can be generated in a sequential manner which may be implemented by various physical setups like microwave and optical cavity QED, trapped ions, and quantum dots etc. We analyze the general N to M qubits Universal Quantum Cloning Machine (UQCM) within a sequential generation scheme. We show that the N to M sequential UQCM is available. The case of d-level quantum states sequential cloning is also presented.
Quantum teleportation (QT) is a fundamentally remarkable communication protocol that also finds many important applications for quantum informatics. Given a quantum entangled resource, it is crucial to know to what extent one can accomplish the QT. This is usually assessed in terms of output fidelity, which can also be regarded as an operational measure of entanglement. In the case of multipartite communication when each communicator possesses a part of $N$-partite entangled state, not all pairs of communicators can achieve a high fidelity due to monogamy property of quantum entanglement. We h…
We consider the class of (N+1)-partite states suitable for protocols where there is a powerful party, the authority, and the other N parties play the same role, namely the state of their system live in the symmetric Hilbert space. We show that, within this scenario, there is a "maximally entangled state" that can be transform by a LOCC protocol into any other state. In addition, we show how to make the protocol efficiently including the construction of the state and discuss security issues for possible applications to cryptographic protocols. As an immediate consequence we recover a sequential…
We investigate phase-insensitive linear amplification at the quantum limit for single- and two-mode states and show that there exists a broad class of non-Gaussian states whose nonclassicality survives even at an arbitrarily large gain. We identify the corresponding observable nonclassical effects and find that they include, remarkably, two-mode entanglement. The implications of our results for quantum cloning outside the Gaussian regime are also addressed.
We present a convenient and efficient scheme to generate arbitrarily multipartite continuous-variable entanglement via mechanical oscillator displacement induced by two strong input pump fields in the conventional single-cavity optomechanical system. It is shown that multipartite entanglement among the outputs of the two pump fields and any number of relatively weak probe fields can be realized and optimized when the two pump fields with suitable amplitude ratio and relative initial phase are, respectively, tuned to the red and blue mechanical sidebands of a single cavity mode and each probe f…
We show that {\it one} single-mode squeezed state distributed among $N$ parties using linear optics suffices to produce a truly $N$-partite entangled state for any nonzero squeezing and arbitrarily many parties. From this $N$-partite entangled state, via quadrature measurements of $N-2$ modes, bipartite entanglement between any two of the $N$ parties can be `distilled', which enables quantum teleportation with an experimentally determinable fidelity better than could be achieved in any classical scheme.
We can only perform a finite rounds of measurements in protocols with local operations and classical communication (LOCC). In this paper, we propose a set of product states, which require infinite rounds of measurements in order to distinguish this given set of states perfectly by LOCC. Therefore, we can conclude that these sets of states are locally indistinguishable. More accurately, given any multipartite LOCC indistinguishable set where every local system cannot start with a nontrivial measurement, then after appending these states with arbitrarily choosing two nonorthogonal states, we obt…
The unextendible entangled basis with any arbitrarily given Schmidt number $k$ (UEBk) in $\mathbb{C}^{d_1}\otimes\mathbb{C}^{d_2}$ is proposed in [Phys. Rev. A 90 (2014) 054303], $1<k\leq \min\{d_1,d_2\}$, which is a set of orthonormal entangled states with Schmidt number $k$ in a $d_1\otimes d_2$ system consisting of fewer than $d_1d_2$ vectors which have no additional entangled vectors with Schmidt number $k$ in the complementary space. In this paper, we extend it to multipartite case and a general way of constructing $(m+1)$-partite UEBk from $m$-partite UEBk is proposed ($m\geq 2$). Conseq…
The violations of Bell inequalities by measurements on quantum states give rise to the phenomenon of quantum non-locality and express the advantage of using quantum resources over classical ones for certain information-theoretic tasks. The relative degree of quantum violations has been well studied in the bipartite scenario and in the multipartite scenario with respect to fully local behaviours. However, the multipartite setting entails a more complex classification in which different notions on non-locality can be established. In particular, genuine multipartite non-local distributions appreh…
We study multipartite Bell nonlocality in a framework native of multipartite Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering scenarios with a single trusted measurement device. We derive a closed-form necessary and sufficient criterion for systems composed of a qubit and N-1 untrusted black-box measurement devices to violate -- under general dichotomic measurements on the qubit -- a generic Bell inequality from a broad family of linear inequalities with arbitrarily many outputs for the N-1 untrusted devices and inputs for all N parties. The optimal quantum measurements for maximal violation are also ob…
We present a family of Bell inequalities for three parties and arbitrarily many outcomes, which can be seen as a natural generalization of the Mermin Bell inequality. For a small number of outcomes, we verify that our inequalities define facets of the polytope of local correlations. We investigate the quantum violations of these inequalities, in particular with respect to the Hilbert space dimension. We provide strong evidence that the maximal quantum violation can only be reached using systems with local Hilbert space dimension exceeding the number of measurement outcomes. This suggests that …
In this paper we show that, given $k\geq 3$, there exist $k$-player quantum XOR games for which the entangled bias can be arbitrarily larger than the bias of the game when the players are restricted to separable strategies. In particular, quantum entanglement can be a much more powerful resource than local operations and classical communication to play these games. This result shows a strong contrast to the bipartite case, where it was recently proved that the entangled bias is always upper bounded by a universal constant times the one-way classical communication bias.
Though the no-cloning theorem [1] prohibits exact replication of arbitrary quantum states, there are many instances in quantum information processing and entanglement measurement in which a weaker form of cloning may be useful. Here, I provide a construction for generating an "entangled clone" for a particular but rather expansive and rich class of states. Given a stabilizer code or free fermion Hamiltonian, this construction generates an exact entangled clone of the original ground state, in the sense that the entanglement between the original and the exact copy can be tuned to be arbitrarily…
We introduce a new feature of no-signaling (Bell) non-local theories, namely, when a system of multiple parties manifests genuine non-local correlation, then there cannot be arbitrarily high non-local correlation among any subset of the parties. We call this feature, \textit{complementarity of genuine multipartite non-locality}. We use Svetlichny's criterion for genuine multipartite non-locality and non-local games to derive the complementarity relations under no-signaling constraints. We find that the complementarity relations are tightened for the much stricter quantum constraints. We compar…
Due to the Heisemberg uncertainty principle, it is impossible to design a procedure which permits perfect cloning of an arbitrary, unknown "qubit" (the spin or polarization state of a single quantum system)1,2. However, it is believed that a perfect copying protocol can be achieved, at least in principle, if the qubit to be copied is destroyed in the original system. Quantum teleportation3,4 is supposed to allow for such a result. Here, this belief is shown to be invalidated by a fundamental uncertainty about the number of particles involved in any process, as predicted by Quantum Field Theory…
We consider generic pure $n$-qubit states and a general class of pure states of arbitrary dimensions and arbitrarily many subsystems. We characterize those states which can be reached from some other state via Local Operations assisted by finitely many rounds of Classical Communication ($LOCC_{\mathbb{N}}$). For $n$ qubits with $n>3$ we show that this set of states is of measure zero, which implies that the maximally entangled set is generically of full measure if restricted to the practical scenario of $LOCC_{\mathbb{N}}$. Moreover, we identify a class of states for which any $LOCC_{\mathbb{N…
We devise a protocol in which general non-classical multipartite correlations produce a physically relevant effect, leading to the creation of bipartite entanglement. In particular, we show that the relative entropy of quantumness, which measures all non-classical correlations among subsystems of a quantum system, is equivalent to and can be operationally interpreted as the minimum distillable entanglement generated between the system and local ancillae in our protocol. We emphasize the key role of state mixedness in maximizing non-classicality: Mixed entangled states can be arbitrarily more n…
