In this paper, we prove the local well-posedness of the Yang-Mills system in the Lorenz gauge for initial data in the Besov space $B^\frac12_{2,1}\times B^{-\frac12}_{2,1}$ with additional angular regularity. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first result on $(1+3)$ dimensional Yang-Mills system with initial data in the scaling critical regularity.
We study the failure of the smoothness of flow maps for the $(1+3)$ dimensional Yang-Mills system in the Lorenz gauge by Knapp type counterexamples. This shows a gap between the scaling critical regularity exponents and the best attainable regularity via Picard's iteration in the Yang-Mills system under the Lorenz gauge condition.
The Yang-Mills-Higgs equations (Y-M-H), when written relative to Lorenz gauge, become a system of nonlinear wave equations. The key bilinear terms in the resulting system turn out to be null forms--this is in light of a recent discovery of null structure by Selberg and the present author for Yang-Mills equations in Lorenz gauge. Using the null structure found and bilinear space-time estimates, we prove local well-posedness of Y-M-H in Lorenz gauge for finite energy data.
In this paper, we study the local well-posedness of the $(1+3)$-dimensional Yang-Mills-Higgs (YMH) and the Yang-Mills-Dirac (YMD) system in the Lorenz gauge. Since there is some bilinear term in (YMH), which is a lack of null structure, one may obtain the well-posedness at most the energy space. However, we attain the scaling critical regularity of (YMH) by imposing the extra weighted regularity in the angular variables. In (YMD), for the coupled system to persist in time, it is required to impose the angular regularity on the Dirac spinor as much as the Yang-Mills gauge potential and curvatur…
We demonstrate null structure in the Yang-Mills equations in Lorenz gauge. Such structure was found in Coulomb gauge by Klainerman and Machedon, who used it to prove global well-posedness for finite-energy data. Compared with Coulomb gauge, Lorenz gauge has the advantage---shared with the temporal gauge---that it can be imposed globally in space even for large solutions. Using the null structure and bilinear space-time estimates, we also prove local-in-time well-posedness of the equations in Lorenz gauge, for data with finite energy. The time of existence depends on the initial energy and on t…
We prove that the Yang-Mills equation in Lorenz gauge in the (n+1)-dimensional case is locally well-posed for data of the gauge potential in $H^s$ and the curvature in $H^r$ , where $s >\frac{n}{2}-\frac{7}{8}$ , $r > \frac{n}{2}-\frac{7}{4}$ , if $n \ge 4$, and $ s > \frac{3}{4}$ , $ r > - \frac{1}{8}$ , if $n=3$. The proof is based on the fundamental results of Klainerman-Selberg [KS] and on the null structure of most of the nonlinear terms detected by Selberg-Tesfahun [ST] and Tesfahun [Te].
We prove that the Yang-Mills equations in the Lorenz gauge (YM-LG) is locally well-posed for data below the energy norm, in particular, we can take data for the gauge potential $A$ and the associated curvature $F$ in $H^s\times H^{s-1}$ and $H^r\times H^{r-1}$ for $s=(\frac67+,-\frac1{14} +)$, respectively. This extends a recent by Selberg and the present author on the local well-posedness of YM-LG for finite energy data (specifically, for $(s, r)=(1-, 0)$). We also prove unconditional uniqueness of the energy class solution, that is, uniqueness in the classical space $C([-T, T]; X_0)$, where …
We consider the classical Yang-Mills system coupled with a Dirac equation in 3+1 dimensions in temporal gauge. Using that most of the nonlinear terms fulfill a null condition we prove local well-posedness for small data with minimal regularity assumptions. This problem for smooth data was solved forty years ago by Y. Choquet-Bruhat and D. Christodoulou. The corresponding problem in Lorenz gauge was considered recently by the author in [P1].
The Yang-Mills and Yang-Mills-Higgs equations in temporal gauge are locally well-posed for small and rough initial data, which can be shown using the null structure of the critical bilinear terms. This carries over a similar result by Tao for the Yang-Mills equations in the (3+1)-dimensional case to the more general Yang-Mills-Higgs system and to general dimensions.
We prove a removable singularities theorem for point singularities of the coupled yang mills fermion equations, on a bundle over a two dimensional base space.
We prove that the Yang-Mills $α$-functional satisfies the Palais-Smale condition. This guarantees the existence of critical points, which are called Yang-Mills $α$-connections. It was shown by Hong, Tian and Yin in [10] (to appear in Comm. Math. Helv.) that as $α\to 1$, a sequence of Yang-Mills $α$-connections converges to a Yang-Mills connection away from finitely many points. We prove an energy identity for such a sequence of Yang-Mills $α$-connections. As an application, we also prove an energy identity for the Yang-Mills flow at the maximal existence time.
We introduce \emph{normalized exponential Yang-Mills energy functional} $\mathcal{YM}_e^0$, stress-energy tensor $S_{e,\mathcal{YM}^0 }$ associated with the normalized \emph{exponential Yang-Mills energy functional} $\mathcal{YM}_e ^0 $, $e$-conservation law. We also introduce the notion of the {\it $e$-degree} $d_e$ which connects two separate parts in the associated normalize exponential stress-energy tensor $S_{e,\mathcal{YM}^0 }$ (cf. (3.10) and (4.15)), derive monotonicity formula for exponential Yang-Mills fields, and prove a vanishing theorem for exponential Yang-Mills fields. These mon…
In this paper, we study the properties of the critical points of Yang-Mills-Higgs functional, which are called Yang-Mills-Higgs pairs. We first consider the properties of weakly stable Yang-Mills-Higgs pairs on a vector bundle over S^n (n > 3). When n > 3, we prove that the norm of its Higgs field is 1 and the connection is actually Yang-Mills. More precisely, its curvature vanishes when n > 4. We also use the bubble-neck decomposition to prove the energy identity of a sequence of Yang-Mills-Higgs pairs over a 4-dimensional compact manifold with uniformly bounded energy. We show there is a sub…
We proved a uniqueness theorem of tangent connections for a Yang-Mills connection with an isolated singularity with a quadratic growth of the curvature at the singularity. We also obtained controls over the rate of the asymptotic convergence of the connection to the tangent connection under assumptions that the connection is stationary or the tangent connection is integrable. There are parallel results for the cones at infinity of a Yang-Mills connection on an asymptotically flat manifold. We also gave an application of our methods to the Yang-Mills flow and proved that the Yang-Mills flow exi…
In this paper, we introduce an α-flow for the Yang-Mills functional in vector bundles over four dimensional Riemannian manifolds, and establish global existence of a unique smooth solution to the α-flow with smooth initial value. We prove that the limit of solutions of the α-flow as α\to 1 is a weak solution to the Yang-Mills flow. By an application of the α-flow, we then follow the idea of Sacks and Uhlenbeck to prove some existence results for Yang-Mills connections and improve the minimizing result of the Yang-Mills functional of Sedlacek.
We show under natural assumptions that stable solutions to the abelian Yang--Mills--Higgs equations on Hermitian line bundles over the round $2$-sphere actually satisfy the vortex equations, which are a first-order reduction of the (second-order) abelian Yang--Mills--Higgs equations. We also obtain a similar result for stable solutions on a flat $2$-torus. Our method of proof comes from the work of Bourguignon--Lawson concerning stable $SU(2)$ Yang--Mills connections on compact homogeneous $4$-manifolds.
We describe a glueing construction for the Yang-Mills equations in dimension $n > 4$. Our method is based on a construction of approximate solutions, and a detailed analysis of the linearized operator near an approximate solution.
In this work, we introduce a novel approach to the problem of gauge choice for the Yang-Mills equation on the Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{1+3}$, which uses the Yang-Mills heat flow in a crucial way. As this approach does not possess the drawbacks of the previous approaches, it is expected to be more robust and easily adaptable to other settings. As the first demonstration of the `structure' offered by this new approach, we will give an alternative proof of the local well-posedness of the Yang-Mills equations for initial data in $(\dot{H}^{1}_{x} \cap L^{3}_{x}) \times L^{2}_{x}$, which is a c…
A local monotonicity formula for the Yang-Mills-Higgs flow on $G$-bundles over $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ ($n>4$) is proved. It is shown that the monotone quantity coïncides on certain self-similar solutions with that appearing in existing non-local monotonicity formulæ for the Yang-Mills and Yang-Mills-Higgs flows.
