Let $ν$ be a valuation of arbitrary rank on the polynomial ring $K[x]$ with coefficients in a field $K$. We prove comparison theorems between MacLane-Vaquié key polynomials for valuations $μ\leν$ and abstract key polynomials for $ν$.
Also, some results on invariants attached to limit key polynomials are obtained. In particular, if $\operatorname{char}(K)=0$ we show that all limit key polynomials of unbounded continuous MacLane chains have numerical character equal to one.
We propose a computation of real motivic zeta functions for real polynomial functions, using Newton polyhedron. As a consequence we show that the weights are blow-Nash invariants of convenient weighted homogeneous polynomials in three variables.
Polynomial invariants for robot manipulators and their joints arise from the adjoint action of the Euclidean group on its Lie algebra, the space of infinitesimal twists or screws. The aim of this paper is to determine basic sets of generating polynomials for multiple screws. Techniques from the theory of SAGBI bases are introduced. As a result, a complete description is provided of the polynomial invariants for screw pairs and some results for screw triples are obtained. The invariants are shown to be related to Denavit-Hartenberg parameters.
In these notes we investigate the rings of real polynomials in four variables, which are invariant under the action of the reflectiongroups [3,4,3] and [3,3,5]. It is well known that they are rationally generated in degree 2,6,8,12 and 2,12,20,30. We give a different proof of this fact by giving explicit equations for the generating polynomials.
Let $G\subset SO(4)$ denote a finite subgroup containing the Heisenberg group. In these notes we classify all these groups, we find the dimension of the spaces of $G$-invariant polynomials and we give equations for the generators whenever the space has dimension two. Then we complete the study of the corresponding $G$-invariant pencils of surfaces in $\mathbb{P}_3$ which we started in math. AG/0106080. It turns out that we have five more pencils, two of them containing surfaces with nodes.
We use the Krammer representation of the braid group in Libgober's invariant and construct a new multivariate polynomial invariant for curve complements: Krammer polynomial. We show that the Krammer polynomial of an essential braid is equal to zero. We also compute the Krammer polynomials of some certain n-gonal curves.
We consider the spin polynomial invariants for bundles with c_2=2 and c_1 = K_S + 2nk a rational mutiple of the canonical divisor on a Dolgacev surface. It is shown that the chamber structure can be controlled so that the polynomials give diffeomorphism invariants of Dolgachev surfaces of the form q_S(n) = a(n)Q^2 + b(n)Qk^2 + c(n)k^4. The two leading coefficients are computed.
We combine recently developed intersection theory for non-reductive geometric invariant theoretic quotients with equivariant localisation to prove a formula for Thom polynomials of Morin singularities. These formulas use only toric combinatorics of certain partition polyhedra, and our new approach circumvents the poorly understood Borel geometry of existing models.
We define the double Gromov-Witten invariants of Hirzebruch surfaces in analogy with double Hurwitz numbers, and we prove that they satisfy a piecewise polynomiality property analogous to their 1-dimensional counterpart. Furthermore we show that each polynomial piece is either even or odd, and we compute its degree. Our methods combine floor diagrams and Ehrhart theory.
We generalize the notion of Thom polynomials from singularities of maps between two complex manifolds to invariant cones in representations, and collections of vector bundles. We prove that the generalized Thom polynomials, expanded in the products of Schur functions of the bundles, have nonnegative coefficients. For classical Thom polynomials associated with maps of complex manifolds, this gives an extension of our former result for stable singularities to nonnecessary stable ones. We also discuss some related aspects of Thom polynomials, which makes the article expository to some extent.
There are natural polynomial invariants of polytopes and lattice polytopes coming from enumerative combinatorics and Ehrhart theory, namely the $h$- and $h^*$-polynomials, respectively. In this paper, we study their generalization to subdivisions and lattice subdivisions of polytopes. By abstracting constructions in mixed Hodge theory, we introduce multivariable polynomials which specialize to the $h$-, $h^*$- polynomials. These polynomials, the mixed $h$-polynomial and the (refined) limit mixed $h^*$-polynomial have rich symmetry, non-negativity, and unimodality properties, which both refine …
We examine the relationship between the (double) Schubert polynomials of Billey-Haiman and Ikeda-Mihalcea-Naruse and the (double) theta and eta polynomials of Buch-Kresch-Tamvakis and Wilson from the perspective of Weyl group invariants. We obtain generators for the kernel of the natural map from the corresponding ring of Schubert polynomials to the (equivariant) cohomology ring of symplectic and orthogonal flag manifolds.
Consider the representations of an algebraic group G. In general, polynomial invariant functions may fail to separate orbits. The invariant subring may not be finitely generated, or the number and complexity of the generators may grow rapidly with the size of the representation. We instead study "constructible" functions defined by straight line programs in the polynomial ring, with a new "quasi-inverse" that computes the inverse of a function where defined. We write straight line programs defining constructible functions that separate the orbits of G. The number of these programs and their le…
The Eynard-Orantin invariants of a plane curve are multilinear differentials on the curve. For a particular class of genus zero plane curves these invariants can be equivalently expressed in terms of simpler expressions given by polynomials obtained from an expansion of the Eynard-Orantin invariants around a point on the curve. This class of curves contains many interesting examples.
We give a bracket polynomial expression for intermediate terms between discriminant and resultant for pair of binary forms. As an application of the bracket polynomial expression, we give an algebraic proof of the algebraic independence of intermediate terms, which was shown in the theory of dynamical systems.
We prove that the generating function for the symmetric chromatic polynomial of all connected graphs satisfies (after appropriate scaling change of variables) the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili integrable hierarchy of mathematical physics. Moreover, we describe a large family of polynomial graph invariants giving the same solution of the KP. In particular, we introduce the Abel polynomial for graphs and show this for its generating function. The key point here is a Hopf algebra structure on the space spanned by graphs and the behavior of the invariants on its primitive space.
The entanglement characteristics of two qubits are encoded in the invariants of the adjoint action of SU(2) x SU(2) group on the space of density matrices defined as the space of positive semi-definite Hermitian matrices. The corresponding ring of polynomial invariants is studied. The special integrity basis for this ring is described and constraints on its elements due to the positive semi-definiteness of density matrices are given explicitly in the form of polynomial inequalities. The suggested basis is characterized by the property that only a minimal number of invariants, namely two primar…
In this note we prove some structural properties of all the A1-homotopy invariants of corner skew Laurent polynomial algebras. As an application, we compute de mod-l algebraic K-theory of Leavitt path algebras using solely the kernel/cokernel of the incidence matrix. This leads naturally to some vanishing and divisibility properties of the algebraic K-theory of these algebras.
