Hybrid semiconductor/superconductor devices constitute an important platform for a wide range of applications, from quantum computing to topological-state-based architectures. Here, we demonstrate full modulation of the interference pattern in a superconducting interference device with two parallel islands of ballistic InAs quantum wells separated by a trench, by acting independently on two side-gates. This so far unexplored geometry enables us to tune the device with high precision from a SQUID-like to a Fraunhofer-like behavior simply by electrostatic gating, without the need for an addition…
The investigation of the switching current probability distribution of a Josephson junction is a conventional tool to gain information on the phase slips dynamics as a function of the temperature. Here we adopt this well-established technique to probe the impact of an external static electric field on the occurrence of phase slips in gated all-metallic titanium (Ti) Josephson weak links. We show, in a temperature range between 20 mK and 420 mK, that the evolution of the phase slips dynamics as a function of the electrostatic field starkly differs from that observed as a function of the tempera…
We consider states localized by electrostatic potentials in phosphorene using an atomistic tight binding approach. From the results of the tight-binding calculations of the confined states we extract effective masses for the conduction band electrons in the armchair and zigzag directions. The masses derived in this way are used for a simple single-band effective mass model which, as we find, reproduces very well the tight-binding energy spectrum in external magnetic field, the probability densities and the interaction effects. Both methods produce Wigner crystallization for the ground-state of…
Analytical solutions describing quantum swap and Hadamard gate are given with the use of tight-binding approximation. Decoherence effects are described analytically for two interacting electrons confined by local potentials with use of tight-binding simplistic model and in Schroedinger formalism with omission of spin degree of freedom. The obtained results can be generalized for the case of N electrostatically interacting quantum bodies confined by local potentials (N-qubit) system representing any electrostatic quantum gate with N1/N-N1 inputs/outputs. The mathematical structure of system evo…

The anticorrelation principle coming from Coulomb electrostatic repulsion is exploited in single electron devices. The formation of quantum entanglement is specified and supported by analytical results. The difference between classical and quantum picture is given. Proximity induced quantum coherence of electrons in multi-terminal voltage-driven hybrid normal-superconducting nanostructures may result in a non-trivial interplay between topology-dependent Josephson and Aharonov-Bohm effects. We elucidate a trade-off between stimulation of the voltage-dependent Josephson current due to non-equilibrium effects and quantum dephasing of quasiparticles causing reduction of both Josephson and Aharonov-Bohm currents. We also predict phase-shifted quantum coherent oscillations of the induced electrostatic potential as a function of the externally applied magnetic …
The screened Coulomb potential plays a crucial role in the binding energies of excitons in a thin dielectric slab. The asymptotic behavior of this potential is studied when the thickness of the slab is very small as compared to the exciton Bohr radius. A regularized expression is given and the exact effective 2D potential is derived. These expressions may be useful for the computation of the exciton binding energy in 2D or quasi-2D materials.
The critical current response to an applied out-of-plane magnetic field in a Josephson junction provides insight into the uniformity of its current distribution. In Josephson junctions with semiconducting weak links, the carrier density and, therefore the overall current distribution could be modified electrostatically via metallic gates. Here, we show local control of the current distribution in an epitaxial Al-InAs Josephson junction equipped with five mini-gates. We demonstrate that not only can the junction width be electrostatically defined but also we can locally adjust the current profi…
We propose a tunable topological Josephson junction in silicene where electrostatic gates could switch between a trivial and a topological junction. These aspects are a consequence of a tunable phase transition of the topologically confined valley-chiral states from a spin-degenerate to a spin-helical regime. We calculate the Andreev bound states in such a junction analytically using a low-energy approximation to the tight-binding model of silicene in proximity to s-wave superconductors as well as numerically in the short- and long-junction regime and in the presence of intervalley scattering.…
Analytical solutions for a tight-binding model are presented for a position-based qubit and N interacting qubits realized by quasi-one-dimensional network of coupled quantum dots expressed by connected or disconnected graphs of any topology in 2 and 3 dimensions where one electron is presented at each separated graphs. Electron(s) quantum dynamic state is described under various electromagnetic circumstances with an omission spin degree-of-freedom. The action of Hadamard and phase rotating gate is given by analytical formulas derived and formulated for any case of physical field evolution pres…
We study electrostatic quantum dot confinement for charge carriers in silicene. The confinement is formed by vertical electric field surrounding the quantum dot area. The resulting energy gap in the outside of the quantum dot traps the carriers within, and the difference of electrostatic potentials on the buckled silicene sublattices produces nonzero carrier masses outside the quantum dot. We study the electrostatic confinement defined inside a silicene flake with both the atomistic tight-binding approach as well as with the continuum approximation for a circularly symmetric electrostatic pote…

It opens the perspective for construction of new type detectors for beam diagnostic in accelerators or for the detection of solar wind. General phenomenological model of noise acting on position based qubit implemented in semiconductor quantum dots is given in the framework of simplistic tight-binding model. Furthermore the effect of accelerator beam on the system of 2 electrostatically coupled qubits is formulated by tight-binding equations. The position based qubits of various topologies a…
Gate-tunable semiconductor-superconductor nanowires with superconducting leads form exotic Josephson junctions that are a highly desirable platform for two types of qubits: those with topological superconductivity (Majorana qubits) and those based on tunable anharmonicity (gatemon qubits). Controlling their behavior, however, requires understanding their electrostatic environment and electronic structure. Here we study gated InAs nanowires with epitaxial aluminum shells. By measuring current-phase relations (CPR) and comparing them with analytical and numerical calculations, we show that we ca…
Superconducting diodes are a recently-discovered quantum analogueue of classical diodes. The superconducting diode effect relies on the breaking of both time-reversal and inversion symmetry. As a result, the critical current of a superconductor can become dependent on the direction of the applied current. The combination of these ingredients naturally occurs in proximitized semiconductors under a magnetic field, which is also predicted to give rise to exotic physics such as topological superconductivity. In this work, we use InSb nanowires proximitized by Al to investigate the superconducting …
Recently, the possibility to tune the critical current of conventional metallic superconductors via electrostatic gating was shown in wires, Josephson weak-links and superconductor-normal metal-superconductor junctions. Here we exploit such a technique to demonstrate a gate-controlled vanadium-based Dayem nano-bridge operated as a \emph{half-wave} rectifier at $3$ K. Our devices exploit the gate-driven modulation of the critical current of the Josephson junction, and the resulting steep variation of its normal-state resistance, to convert an AC signal applied to the gate electrode into a DC on…
We analyze the topological superconductivity and investigate the spectroscopic properties manifested by the zero-energy modes, induced in a metallic strip embedded into a Josephson-type junction. Focusing on the Majorana polarization of such quasiparticles, we propose feasible means for its empirical detection, using the spin-selective Andreev reflection method. Our study reveals a gradual development of a transverse gradient of the Majorana polarization across the metallic strip upon increasing its width. We also inspect the spatial profile and polarization of the Majorana quasiparticles in t…
We study the zero-temperature phase diagram of a dissipationless and disorder-free Josephson junction chain. Namely, we determine the critical Josephson energy below which the chain becomes insulating, as a function of the ratio of two capacitances: the capacitance of each Josephson junction and the capacitance between each superconducting island and the ground. We develop an imaginary-time path integral Quantum Monte-Carlo algorithm in the charge representation, which enables us to efficiently handle the electrostatic part of the chain Hamiltonian. We find that a large part of the phase diagr…

Simplistic tight-binding model allows for description of single-electron devices at large integration scale. The case of two electrostatically Wannier qubits (that are also known as position based qubits) in Schroedinger model is presented with omission spin degrees of freedom. The concept of programmable quantum matter can be implemented in the chain of coupled semiconductor quantum dots. Ind…
In this work, we investigate the spectra in an Aharonov-Bohm quantum-ring interferometer forming a Josephson junction between two topological superconductors (TSC) nanowires. The TSCs host Majorana bound states at their edges, and both the magnetic flux and the superconducting phase difference between the TSCs are used as control parameters. We use a tight-binding approach to model the quantum ring coupled to both TSCs, described by the Kitaev effective Hamiltonian. We solve the problem by means of exact numerical diagonalization of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian and obtain the spe…
Topological Josephson junctions (TJJs) have been a subject of widespread interest due to their hosting of Majorana zero modes. In long junctions, i.e. junctions where the junction length exceeds the superconducting coherence length, TJJs manifest themselves in specific features of the critical current. Here we propose to couple the helical edge states mediating the TJJ to additional channels or quantum dots, by which the effective junction length can be increased by tunable parameters associated with these couplings, so that such measurements become possible even in short junctions. Besides ef…

Irradiating a Josephson junction with microwaves can operate not only on the amplitude but also on the phase of the Josephson current. This requires breaking time inversion symmetry, which is achieved by introducing a phase lapse between the microwave components acting on the two† sides of the junction. General symmetry arguments and the solution of a specific single level quantum dot model show that this induces chirality in the Cooper pair dynamics, due to the topology of the Andreev bound state wavefunction. Another essential condition is to break electron-hole symmetry within the junction.…
We investigate the Josephson current through a suspended carbon nanotube double quantum dot which, at sufficiently low temperatures, is characterized by the ground state of the electronic subsystem. Depending on parameters like a magnetic field or the inter-dot coupling, the ground state can either be a current-carrying singlet or doublet, or a blockaded triplet state. Since the electron-vibration interaction has been demonstrated to be electrostatically tuneable, we study in particular its effect on the current-phase relation. We show that the coupling to the vibration mode can lift the curre…
