We carried out a model-independent search for light scalar (s) and pseudoscalar axionlike (a) particles that couple to two photons by using the high-energy CERN SPS H4 electron beam. The new particles, if they exist, could be produced through the Primakoff effect in interactions of hard bremsstrahlung photons generated by 100 GeV electrons in the NA64 active dump with virtual photons provided by the nuclei of the dump. The a(s) would penetrate the downstream HCAL module, serving as shielding, and would be observed either through their $a(s)\toγγ$ decay in the rest of the HCAL detector or as events with large missing energy if the a(s) decays downstream of the HCAL. This method allows for the probing the a(s) parameter space, including those from generic axion models, inaccessible to previous experiments. No evidence of such processes has been found from the analysis of the data corresponding to $2.84\times10^{11}$ electrons on target allowing to set new limits on the $a(s)γγ$-coupling strength for a(s) masses below 55 MeV.
We report the results of a search for axionlike dark matter using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. This search is part of the multi-faceted Cosmic Axion Spin Precession Experiment (CASPEr) program. In order to distinguish axionlike dark matter from magnetic fields, we employ a comagnetometry scheme measuring ultralow-field NMR signals involving two different nuclei ($^{13}$C and $^{1}$H) in a liquid-state sample of acetonitrile-2-$^{13}$C ($^{13}$CH$_{3}$CN). No axionlike dark matter signal was detected above background. This result constrains the parameter space describing the cou…
In this letter we describe our novel photon regeneration experiment for the axionlike particle search using a x-ray beam with a photon energy of 50.2 keV and 90.7 keV, two superconducting magnets of 3 T, and a Ge detector with a high quantum efficiency. A counting rate of regenerated photons compatible with zero has been measured. The corresponding limits on the pseudoscalar axionlike particle-two photon coupling constant is obtained as a function of the particle mass. Our setup widens the energy window of purely terrestrial experiments devoted to the axionlike particle search by coupling to t…
We comment on arXiv:1901.10843, pointing out that its constraint on ultra-low-mass axions is incompatible with the duration of the data set described. We describe a simple way to analyze such data that gives the correct scaling.
The production of axionlike particles (ALPs) with small masses in ultraperipheral $Pb - p$ and $Pb - Pb$ collisions at the LHC is investigated. The cross section and kinematical distributions associated to the diphoton final state produced in the $γγ\rightarrow a \rightarrow γγ$ subprocesses are estimated considering a realistic set of kinematical cuts. A detailed analysis of the backgrounds is performed and the expected sensitivity to the ALP production is derived. Our results demonstrate that a future experimental analysis of the exclusive diphoton production for the forward rapidities probe…
The impact of axion-like particles (ALPs) on the search of permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of molecules, atoms, nuclei and nucleons is systematically investigated. We classify first the full set of CP-violating Jarlskog invariants emerging in the ALP effective field theory (EFT) containing operators up to dimension-5. Then, we evaluate the leading short-distance effects to the EDMs up to two-loop order. The high sensitivity of EDMs to CP-violating ALP interactions is emphasised exploiting both the current and projected experimental sensitivities.
Reactor neutrino experiments provide a rich environment for the study of axionlike particles (ALPs). Using the intense photon flux produced in the nuclear reactor core, these experiments have the potential to probe ALPs with masses below 10 MeV. We explore the feasibility of these searches by considering ALPs produced through Primakoff and Compton-like processes as well as nuclear transitions. These particles can subsequently interact with the material of a nearby detector via inverse Primakoff and inverse Compton-like scatterings, via axio-electric absorption, or they can decay into photon or…
Searches for the axion and axionlike particles may hold the key to unlocking some of the deepest puzzles about our universe, such as dark matter and dark energy. Here we use the recently demonstrated spin-based amplifier to constrain such hypothetical particles within the well-motivated ``axion window'' (1 $μ$eV-1 meV) through searching for an exotic spin-spin interaction between polarized electron and neutron spins. The key ingredient is the use of hyperpolarized long-lived $^{129}$Xe nuclear spins as an amplifier for the pseudomagnetic field generated by the exotic interaction. Using such a …
A hypothetical pseudo-scalar particle axion, which is an immediate result of the Peccei-Quinn solution to the strong CP problem, may couple to gluons and lead to an oscillating electric dipole moment (EDM) of fundamental particles. This paper proposes a novel method of probing the axion-induced oscillating EDM in storage rings, using a radiofrequency (RF) Wien Filter. The Wien Filter at the frequency of the sidebands of the axion and $g-2$ frequency, $f_\text{axion} \pm f_{g-2}$, generates a spin resonance in the presence of an oscillating EDM, as confirmed both by an analytical estimation of …
We report on new results of a search for two-photon interaction with axionlike particles (ALPs). The experiment was carried out at a synchrotron radiation facility using a "light shining through a wall (LSW)" technique. For this purpose, we have developed a novel pulsed-magnet system, composed of multiple racetrack-magnets and a transportable power supply. It produces fields of about 10 T over 0.8 m with a high repetition rate of 0.2 Hz and yields a new method of probing vacuum with high intensity fields. The data obtained with a total of 27,676 pulses provide a limit on the ALP-two-photon cou…

A gauge invariant UV-completion for singlet fermion DM interacting with the standard model (SM) particles involves a new singlet scalar. Therefore the model contains two scalar mediators, mixtures of the SM Higgs boson and a singlet scalar boson. Collider phenomenology of the interference effect between these two scalar propagators is studied in this work. This interference effect can be either constructive or destructive in the DM production cross section depending on both singlet scalar and DM masses, and it will soften the final state jets in the full mass region. Applying the CMS mono-jet …
Spin-0 singlets arise in well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model. Their lifetime determines the best search strategies at hadron and lepton colliders. To cover a large range of singlet decay lengths, we investigate bounds from Higgs decays into a pair of singlets, considering signatures of invisible decays, displaced and delayed jets, and coupling fits of untagged decays. We examine the generic scalar singlet and the relaxion, and derive a matching as well as qualitative differences between them. For each model, we discuss its natural parameter space and the searches probing it.
Motivated by the principle of natural flavour conservation, searches for signatures of a second scalar doublet at the LHC are usually limited to models with a very restricted Yukawa structure. Strong correlations between the scalar couplings to fermions are fixed in these models due to the underlying flavour principle, making the results obtained from such analyses highly model dependent. Moreover, constraints derived from flavour experiments also vary radically within the different models considered. The hypothesis of Yukawa alignment provides a suitable framework to perform a more general an…
We report results of a search for the pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark using 1 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at a ppbar center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Both scalar top quarks are assumed to decay into a b quark, a charged lepton and a scalar neutrino. The search is performed in the electron plus muon and dielectron final states. The signal topology consists of two isolated leptons, missing transverse energy, and jets. We find no evidence for this process and exclude regions of parameter space in the framewo…
We consider a neutrino Two Higgs Doublet Model ($ν$THDM) in which neutrinos obtain {\it naturally} small Dirac masses from the soft symmetry breaking of a global $U(1)_X$ symmetry. We extended the model so the soft term is generated by the spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_X$ by a new scalar field. The symmetry breaking pattern can also stabilize a scalar dark matter candidate. After constructing the model, we study the phenomenology of the dark matter: relic density, direct and indirect detection.
Since the discovery of the Higgs boson in the year 2012, the CMS experiment continuously makes use of a variety of final states to measure the properties of the Higgs boson, as well as to search for it in final states where the discovery could not yet be established. This article concentrates on Higgs searches in fermionic final states including a search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the $H \rightarrow b\overline{b}$ channel. Furthermore, three different searches for Higgs bosons beyond the Standard Model are presented. These comprise two searches for heavy neutral Higgs bosons and one…
The existence of exotic scalars that mix with the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson can affect Higgs boson phenomenology in a multitude of ways. We consider two light Higgs bosons with shared couplings to SM fields and with masses close to each other, in the range where the h \to WW \to l νl νis an important search channel. In this channel, we do not find the dilution of significance of the `SM-like' Higgs boson that is naively expected because of the mixing. This is because of leakage of events from the decay of the other scalar into its signal region. Nevertheless, we show that the broadening …
We study the search for an extra scalar $S$ boson produced in association with the $Z$ boson at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The study is performed at center-of-mass energies of 250 GeV and 500 GeV based on the full simulation of the International Large Detector (ILD). In order to be as model-independent as possible, the analysis uses the recoil technique, in particular with the $Z$ boson decaying into a pair of muons. As a result, exclusion cross-section limits are given in terms of a scale factor $k$ with respect to the Standard Model Higgs-strahlung process cross section. These …
This work is devoted to search and study scalar $σ_0 0^+[0^++]$ - mesons in the system of $π^+π^-$ from the reaction $np -> npπ^+π^-$ at the impulse of the quasimonochromatic neutrons c from the data obtained in an exposure of the 1m H2 bubble chamber of LHE (JINR)The resonance with and has been found out in effective mass distribution. Value of a statistical deviation of this peculiarity from a background is more than four. Spin of the resonance has been estimated, which, with high probability, is equal 0. The other quantum numbers of the resonance have been estimated.
The scalar partner of the top quark (the stop) is relatively light in many models of supersymmetry breaking. We study the production of stops at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and their subsequent decays through baryon-number violating couplings such that the final state contains no leptons. A detailed analysis performed using detector level observables demonstrate that stop masses upto $\sim 600 \gev$ may be explored at the LHC depending on the branching ratios for such decays and the integrated luminosity available. Extended to other analogous scenarios, the analysis will, generically, prob…
The determination of scalar lepton and gaugino masses is an important part of the programme of spectroscopic studies of Supersymmetry at a high energy e+e- linear collider. In this article we present results of a study of the processes: e+e- -> eR eR -> e+e- chi0 chi, e+e- -> muR muR -> mu mu- chi0 chi0, e+e- -> eL eL -> e e chi0 chi0 and e+e- -> snu_e snu_e -> e e chi+ chi-in two Supersymmetric benchmark scenarios at 3 TeV and 1.4 TeV at CLIC. We characterize the detector performance, lepton energy resolution and boson mass resolution. We report the accuracy of the production cross section me…

Axionlike particles (ALPs) are hypothetical light (sub-eV) bosons predicted in some extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics. In astrophysical environments comprising high-energy gamma rays and turbulent magnetic fields, the existence of ALPs can modify the energy spectrum of the gamma rays for a sufficiently large coupling between ALPs and photons. This modification would take the form of an irregular behavior of the energy spectrum in a limited energy range. Data from the H.E.S.S. observations of the distant BL Lac object PKS 2155-304 (z = 0.116) are used to derive upper limits a…
We make use of the EDELWEISS-III array of germanium bolometers to search for electron interactions at the keV scale induced by phenomena beyond the Standard Model. A 90% C.L. lower limit is set on the electron lifetime decaying to invisibles, $τ> 1.2\times 10^{24}$ years. We investigate the emission of axions or axionlike particles (ALPs) by the Sun, constraining the coupling parameters $g_{ae}<1.1\times 10^{-11}$ and $g_{ae}\times g_{aN}^{\rm eff} < 3.5\times 10^{-17}$ at 90% C.L. in the massless limit. We also directly search for the absorption of bosonic dark matter particles that would con…
The determination of scalar leptons and gauginos masses is an important part of the program of spectroscopic studies of Supersymmetry at a high energy linear collider. In this talk we present results of a study of pair produced Scalar Electrons, Scalar Muons and Scalar Neutrinos searches in a Supersymmetric scenario at 3 TeV at CLIC. We present the performances on the lepton energy resolution and report the expected accuracies on the production cross sections and on the scalar leptons and gauginos masses.
We propose a new method to search for hypothetical scalar particles that have feeble interactions with Standard-Model particles. In the presence of massive bodies, these interactions produce a non-zero Yukawa-type scalar-field magnitude. Using radio-frequency spectroscopy data of atomic dysprosium, as well as atomic clock spectroscopy data, we constrain the Yukawa-type interactions of a scalar field with the photon, electron, and nucleons for a range of scalar-particle masses corresponding to length scales $ > 10$ cm. In the limit as the scalar-particle mass $m_ϕ\to 0$, our derived limits on t…
A search for sub-eV scalar fields coupling to two photons has been performed via four-wave mixing at a quasi-parallel laser collider for the first time. The experiment demonstrates the novel approach to search for resonantly produced sub-eV scalar fields by combining two-color laser fields in the vacuum. The aim of this paper is to provide the concrete experimental setup and the analysis method based on specific combinations of polarization states between incoming and outgoing photons, which is extendable to higher intensity laser systems operated at high repetition rates. No significant signa…
Search for scalar quarks in e+e- collisions at sqrt(s) up to 209GeV
This article describes the search for pair production of scalar leptoquarks performed by the CMS collaboration using the data from the 2010 proton-proton run of the Large Hadron Collider at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV. The following final state signatures from the decay of a pair of scalar leptoquarks are described in here: the di-lepton plus jets final state (where the leptons are either both electrons or both muons) and the lepton plus jets and transverse missing energy final state (where the lepton is an electron).
The results of a search for pair production of the scalar partners of bottom quarks in 2.05 fb^-1 of pp collisions at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV using the ATLAS experiment are reported. Scalar bottoms are searched for in events with large missing transverse momentum and two jets in the final state, where both jets are identified as originating from a b-quark. In an R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric scenario, assuming that the scalar bottom decays exclusively into a bottom quark and a neutralino, 95% confidence-level upper limits are obtained in the tilde{b}_1 - tilde{chi}^0_1 mass plane such tha…
Searches for Scalar Top and Bottom Quarks at the Tevatron
本文介绍了利用Tevatron $p\bar{p}$对撞机上340 pb $^{-1}$的数据对顶夸克和底夸克超对称伴子的研究。我们报告了在衰变$\tilde{t}\to c \tildeχ_1^0$和$\tilde{t}\to bl\tildeν$中搜索标量顶夸克$\tilde{t}$,以及在衰变$\tilde{b}\to b \tildeχ_1^0$中搜索标量底夸克$\tilde{b}$。没有发现信号的证据,但改进的排除区域已经在标准模型的通用最小超对称扩展的框架中导出。
We report the results of a search for pair production of scalar bottom quarks (sbottom) and scalar third-generation leptoquarks in 5.2 fb-1 of ppbar collisions at the D0 experiment of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Scalar bottom quarks are assumed to decay to a neutralino and a $b$ quark, and we set 95% C.L. lower limits on their production in the (m_sbottom, m_neutralino) mass plane such as m_sbottom>247 GeV for m_neutralino=0 and m_neutralino>110 GeV for 160<m_sbottom<200 GeV. The leptoquarks are assumed to decay to a tau neutrino and a $b$ quark, and we set a 95% C.L. lower limit of 247 Ge…
The results of a dedicated search for pair production of scalar partners of charm quarks are reported. The search is based on an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search is performed using events with large missing transverse momentum and at least two jets, where the two leading jets are each tagged as originating from c-quarks. Events containing isolated electrons or muons are vetoed. In an R-parity-conserving minimal supersymmetric scenario in which a single scalar-charm state is kinematically accessi…
A search for pair-produced scalar particles decaying to a four-jet final state is presented. The analysis is performed using an integrated luminosity of 34 pb^-1 recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2010. No deviation from the Standard Model is observed. For a scalar mass of 100 GeV (190 GeV) the limit on the scalar gluon pair production cross section at 95% confidence level is 1 nb (0.28 nb). When these results are interpreted as mass limits, scalar-gluons (hyperpions) with masses of 100 to 185 GeV (100 to 155 GeV) are excluded at 95% confidence level with the exception of a mass window of width…
