We report results of a search for the pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark using 1 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at a ppbar center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Both scalar top quarks are assumed to decay into a b quark, a charged lepton and a scalar neutrino. The search is performed in the electron plus muon and dielectron final states. The signal topology consists of two isolated leptons, missing transverse energy, and jets. We find no evidence for this process and exclude regions of parameter space in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model.
Using 5.4 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we search for decays of the lightest Kaluza-Klein mode of the graviton in the Randall-Sundrum model to ee and gammagamma. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on the mass of the lightest graviton between 560 GeV and 1050 GeV for values of the coupling k/Mbar_pl between 0.01 and 0.1.
We present results of a search in 929 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a photon, both with high transverse momentum, accompanied by additional signatures, X, including missing transverse energy and additional leptons and photons. We use the same selection criteria as in the previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher ppbar collision energy, and the CDF II detector.
We present the first search for supersymmetry (SUSY) in Zgamma final states with large missing transverse energy using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.2 fb-1 collected with the D0 experiment in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. This signature is predicted in gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking models, where the lightest neutralino is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) and is produced in pairs, possibly through decay from heavier supersymmetric particles. The NLSP can decay either to a Z boson or a photon and an associated gravitino that escapes detection. We e…
We present results of a search at CDF in 929 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a high-transverse momentum charged lepton (either electron or muon) and photon, accompanied by missing transverse energy (MET), and/or additional leptons and photons, and jets (X). We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher ppbar collision energy, and the CDF II detector. We find 163 Lepton + Photon + MET + X events, compared to an expectation of 150.6+-13.0 events. We observe 74 Mult…
We present the first search for pair production of isolated jets of charged leptons in association with a large imbalance in transverse energy in ppbar collisions using 5.8 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. No excess is observed above Standard Model background, and the result is used to set upper limits on the production cross section of pairs of supersymmetric chargino and neutralino particles as a function of "dark-photon" mass, where the dark photon is produced in the decay of the lightest supersymmetric particle.
We present measurements of asymmetries in angular distributions of leptons produced in ttbar events in proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider final states where the W bosons from top quark and antiquark decays both decay into l nu (l=e, mu) resulting in oppositely charged dilepton final states with accompanying jets. Using 9.7 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector, we find the asymmetries in lepton pseudorapidity compatible with predictions based on the standard model.
We present a measurement of the ttbar production cross section using events with one charged lepton and jets from ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. In these events, heavy flavor quarks from top quark decay are identified with a secondary vertex tagging algorithm. From 162 pb-1 of data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab, a total of 48 candidate events are selected, where 13.5 +- 1.8 events are expected from background contributions. We measure a ttbar production cross section of 5.6^{+1.2}_{-1.1} (stat.) ^{+0.9}_{0.6} (syst.) pb.
We present a measurement of the top quark pair ttbar production cross section in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 230 pb**{-1} of data collected by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon), large missing transverse energy, and at least four jets, and extract the ttbar content of the sample based on the kinematic characteristics of the events. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we measure sigma(ttbar) = 6.7 {+1.4-1.3} (stat) {+1.6- 1.1} (syst) +/-0.4 (lumi) pb, in good agreement with the standard mo…
We present a measurement of Z boson pair production in ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV with 9.6 fb-1 to 9.8fb-1 of D0 data. We examine the final states with four electrons, two electrons plus two muons, and four muons. Based on selected data, the measured cross section in the mass region M(Z/gamma*) > 30 GeV is sigma(ppbar to Z/gamma* Z/gamma*)= 1.26 ^{+0.44}_{-0.36} (stat) ^{+0.17}_{-0.15} (syst) +/- 0.08 (lumi) pb; after correcting for the expected ratio of sigma(ppbar to Z/gamma* Z/gamma*) to sigma(ppbar to ZZ), we derive a cross section for ppbar to ZZ production of 1.05 ^{+0.37}_{-0.30} (sta…
We present a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV utilizing 425 pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider the final state of the top quark pair containing one high-pT electron or muon and at least four jets. We exploit specific kinematic features of ttbar events to extract the cross section. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we measure sigma_ttbar = 6.4 +1.3-1.2(stat} +/- 0.7(syst)+/- 0.4(lum) pb in good agreement with the standard model prediction.
We present a measurement of the $\ttbar$ production cross section in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV using events containing a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. Events consistent with $\ttbar$ decay are found by identifying jets containing candidate heavy-flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The measurement uses a CDF Run II data sample corresponding to $2 \mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ of integrated luminosity. Based on 248 candidate events with three or more jets and an expected background of $79.5\pm5.3$ events, we measure a producti…
We present a search for a narrow-width heavy resonance decaying into top quark pairs X->ttbar in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV using approximately 0.9fb^-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. This analysis considers ttbar candidate events in the lepton plus jets channel with at least one identified b jet and uses the ttbar invariant mass distribution to search for evidence of resonant production. We find no evidence for a narrow resonance X decaying to ttbar. Therefore, we set upper limits on sigma*B(X->ttbar) for different hypothesized resonance mas…
We present results of a search for anomalous production of events containing a charged lepton (either electron or muon) and a photon, both with high transverse momentum, accompanied by additional signatures, X, including missing transverse energy (MET) and additional leptons and photons. We use the same kinematic selection criteria as in a previous CDF search, but with a substantially larger data set, 305 pb-1, a ppbar collision energy of 1.96 TeV, and the upgraded CDF II detector. We find 42 Lepton+Photon+MET events versus a standard model expectation of 37.3 +- 5.4 events. The level of exces…
We search for pair production of supersymmetric top quarks (~t_1), followed by R-parity violating decay ~t_1 -> tau b with a branching ratio beta, using 322 pb^-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. Two candidate events pass our final selection criteria, consistent with the standard model expectation. We set upper limits on the cross section sigma(~t_1 ~tbar_1)*beta^2 as a function of the stop mass m(~t_1). Assuming beta=1, we set a 95% confidence level limit m(~t_1)>153 GeV/c^2. The limits are also applicable to the case of a third generation …
We present a measurement of the cross section for Z boson production times the branching fraction to tau lepton pairs sigma(ppbar -> Z + X) Br(Z -> tau+ tau-) in proton-antiproton collisions at center of mass energy 1.96 TeV. The measurement is performed in the channel in which one tau lepton decays into a muon and neutrinos, and the other tau lepton decays hadronically or into an electron and neutrinos. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 inverse fb collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The sample contains 1511 candidate events with an es…
We present a measurement of the ttbar pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV utilizing approximately 425 pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector. We consider decay channels containing two high pT charged leptons (either e or μ) from leptonic decays of both top-daughter W bosons. These were gathered using four sets of selection criteria, three of which required that a pair of fully identified leptons (i.e., eμ, ee, or μμ) be found. The fourth approach imposed less restrictive criteria on one of the lepton candidates and required that at least one hadronic je…
We report a measurement of the ttbar production cross section using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The data consist of events with an energetic electron or muon, missing transverse energy, and three or more hadronic jets, at least one of which is identified as a b-quark jet by reconstructing a secondary vertex. The background fraction is determined from a fit of the transverse energy of the leading jet. Using 162+-10 /pb of data, the total cross section is found to be 6.0+-1.6(stat.)+-1.2(syst.) pb, which is consistent with the Standard Model prediction.
We present a measurement of the forward--backward asymmetry in top quark-antiquark production using the full Tevatron Run II dataset collected by the D0 experiment at Fermilab. The measurement is performed in lepton+jets final states using a new kinematic fitting algorithm for events with four or more jets and a new partial reconstruction algorithm for events with only three jets. Corrected for detector acceptance and resolution effects, the asymmetry is evaluated to be 10.6+-3.0 %. Results are consistent with the standard model predictions which range from 5.0% to 8.8%. We also present the de…
We present a measurement of the top quark pair ($t\bar{t}$) production cross section ($σ_{t\bar{t}}$) in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV using 230 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon), missing transverse energy, and jets in the final state. We employ lifetime-based b-jet identification techniques to further enhance the $t\bar{t}$ purity of the selected sample. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we measure $σ_{t\bar{t}}=8.6^{+1.6}_{-1.5}(stat.+syst.)\pm 0.6(lumi.)$ pb, in agreem…
We study momentum distributions of the final-state charged lepton in ppbar/pp --> ttbar --> l^+ X (l=e or mu) at hadron colliders, i.e., Tevatron and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in order to explore possible new-physics effects in the top-quark sector. Assuming general model-independent ttbar g + ttbar gg and tbW interactions beyond the standard model, we first derive analytical formulas for the corresponding parton-parton processes. We then compute the lepton angular, energy and transverse-momentum distributions in ppbar/pp collisions to clarify how they are affected by those anomalous couplin…
We present a measurement of the $\ttbar$ production cross section using $194 \mathrm{pb^{-1}}$ of CDF II data using events with a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. The measurement assumes 100% $t\to Wb$ branching fraction. Events consistent with $\ttbar$ decay are found by identifying jets containing heavy flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The dominant backgrounds are evaluated directly from the data. Based on 20 candidate events and an expected background of 9.5$\pm$1.1 events, we measure a production cross section of $5.3\pm3.3^{…
Using 1 fb-1 of data from ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider collected by the D0 detector, we search for decays of Kaluza-Klein excitations of the graviton in the Randall-Sundrum model of extra dimensions to e+e- and diphotons. We set 95% confidence level upper limits on the production cross section times branching fraction which translate into lower limits on the mass of the lightest excitation between 300 and 900 GeV for values of the coupling k/M(Planck) between 0.01 and 0.1.
We report two measurements of the top quark mass M_top using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in a 318 pb^-1 data sample observed in the lepton + jets final state. One method uses an event-based likelihood technique resulting in M_top = 173.2 +2.6/-2.4 (stat.) +/- 3.2 (syst.) GeV/c^2 or 173.2 +4.1/-4.0 GeV/c^2. The second method reconstructs a top quark mass in each event using the measured invariant mass of the hadronically decaying W boson to constrain the jet energy scale to obtain a value for M_top of 173.5 +3.7/-3.6 (stat.) +/- 1.3 (syst.) GeV/c^2 or 173.5 +3.9/-3.8 GeV/c^2. W…
We present a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV using approximately 1 fb^{-1} of data collected with the D0 detector. We consider decay channels containing two high pt charged leptons where one lepton is identified as an electron or a muon while the other lepton can be an electron, a muon or a hadronically decaying tau lepton. For a mass of the top quark of 170 GeV, the measured cross section is 7.5 +1.0-1.0 (stat) +0.7-0.6 (syst) +0.6-0.5 (lumi) pb. Using lepton+tau events only, we measure: σ_ttbar \times B(ttbar to ltau bbbar) …
We present a measurement of the ttbar production cross section using events with one charged lepton and jets from ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. A b-tagging algorithm based on the probability of displaced tracks coming from the event interaction vertex is applied to identify b quarks from top decay. Using 318 pb^{-1} of data collected with the CDF II detector, we measure the ttbar production cross section in events with at least one restrictive (tight) b-tagged jet and obtain 8.9 +1.0-1.0 (stat.) +1.1-1.0 (syst.) pb. The cross section value assumes a top quark mass of…
We describe a search for anomalous production of events with two leptons ($e$ or $μ$) of the same electric charge in \ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Many extensions to the standard model predict the production of two leptons of the same electric charge. This search has a significant increase in sensitivity compared to earlier searches. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 \invfb of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector, we observe no significant excess in an inclusive selection (expect $33.2\pm4.7$ events, observe 44) or in a SUSY-optimized selection…
We present a search for like-sign dielectron plus multijet events using 107 pb-1 of data in \ppbar collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV collected in 1992-95 by the CDF experiment. Finding no events that pass our selection, we set $σ\cdot Br$ limits on two SUSY processes that can produce this experimental signature: gluino-gluino or squark-antisquark production with R-parity violating decays of the charm squark or lightest neutralino via a non-zero lambda'_121 coupling. We compare our results to NLO calculations for gluino and squark production cross sections and set lower limits on M(gluino), M(…
A search for direct production of scalar bottom quarks (sb) is performed with 310 pb-1 of data collected by the DO experiment in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The topology analyzed consists of two b jets and an imbalance in transverse momentum due to undetected neutralinos chi0_1, with chi0_1 assumed to be the lightest supersymmetric particle. We find the data consistent with standard model expectations, and set a 95% C.L. exclusion domain in the (m_sb,m_chi0_1) mass plane, improving significantly upon the results from Run I of the Tevatron.
We report on a first search for production of the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson (h) in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, where h decays to a pair of neutral pseudoscalar Higgs bosons (a), using 4.2/fb of data recorded with the D0 detector at Fermilab. The a bosons are required to either both decay to mu^+mu^- or one to mu^+mu^- and the other to tau^+tau^-. No significant signal is observed, and we set limits on its production as functions of M_a and M_h.
We present a measurement of the top quark mass ($m_t$) in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV using $t\bar{t}$ events with two leptons ($ee$, $eμ$, or $μμ$) and accompanying jets in $4.3 fb^{-1}$ of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We analyze the kinematically underconstrained dilepton events by integrating over their neutrino rapidity distributions. We reduce the dominant systematic uncertainties from the calibration of jet energy using a correction obtained from $t\bar{t}$ events with a final state of a single lepton plus jets. We also correct…
We present a measurement of the ttbar production cross section sigma(ttbar) in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using 5.4 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector. We consider final states with at least two jets and two leptons (ee, emu, mumu), and events with one jet for the the emu final state as well. The measured cross section is sigma(ttbar)= 7.36 +0.90-0.79 (stat + syst) pb. This result combined with the cross section measurement in the lepton + jets final state yields sigma(ttbar)=7.56 +0.63-0.56 (stat + syst) pb, which agrees with the standard model expectatio…
We present the results of a search for pair production of scalar top quarks in an R-parity violating supersymmetry scenario in 106 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In this mode each scalar top quark decays into a tau lepton and a b quark. We search for events with two tau's, one decaying leptonically (e or mu) and one decaying hadronically, and two jets. No candidate events pass our final selection criteria. We set a 95% confidence level lower limit on the scalar top quark mass at 122 GeV/c2 for Br (stop-> tau + b) = 1.
We measure the cross section and the difference in rapidities between photons and charged leptons for inclusive W -> lnu+gamma production in egamma and mugamma final states. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, the cross section multiplied by the branching fraction for the process ppbar -> Wgamma+X -> lnugamma+X, measured to be 15.8 +/- 0.8 (stat.) +/- 1.2 (syst.) pb, and the distribution of the charge-signed photon-lepton rapidity difference are found to be in agreement with the standard model. These…
We present the results of a search for associated production of the chargino and neutralino supersymmetric particles using up to 1.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron ppbar collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search is conducted by analyzing events with a large transverse momentum imbalance and either three charged leptons or two charged leptons of the same electric charge. The numbers of observed events are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. Upper limits on the production cross section are derived in differe…
Contrary to common expectation, a left-sneutrinos can occasionally be the lightest supersymmet- ric particle. This has important implications in both collider and dark matter studies. We show that same-sign tri-lepton (SS3L) events at the Large Hadron Collider, with any lepton having opposite sign vetoed, distinguish such scenarios, up to gluino masses exceeding 2 TeV. The jets + M ET signal rate is somewhat suppressed in this case, thus enhancing the scope of leptonic signals.
The ttbar spin correlation at production is a fundamental prediction of QCD and a potentially incisive test of new physics coupled to top quarks. We measure the ttbar spin state in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using 1001 candidate events in the lepton plus jets decay channel reconstructed in the CDF II detector. In the helicity basis, for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV/c^2, we find a spin correlation coefficient kappa = 0.60 +/- 0.50 (stat) +/- 0.16 (syst), consistent with the QCD prediction, kappa ~= 0.40.
This report describes a measurement of the top quark mass, M_{top}, with the dynamical likelihood method (DLM) using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The Tevatron produces top/anti-top pairs in protons and anti-protons collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The data sample used in this analysis was accumulated from March 2002 through August 2004, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 318 pb^{-1}. We use the top/anti-top candidates in the ``lepton+jets'' decay channel, requiring at least one jet identified as a b quark by finding a displaced secondary vertex.…
A measurement of the $\ttbar$ production cross section in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{\rm s}$ = 1.96 TeV using events with two leptons, missing transverse energy, and jets is reported. The data were collected with the CDF II Detector. The result in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity 2.8 fb$^{-1}$ is: $σ_{\ttbar}$ = 6.27 $\pm$ 0.73(stat) $\pm$ 0.63(syst) $\pm$ 0.39(lum) pb. for an assumed top mass of 175 GeV/$c^{2}$.
We report on a study of the dijet invariant-mass distribution in events with one identified lepton, a significant imbalance in the total event transverse momentum, and two jets. This distribution is sensitive to the possible production of a new particle in association with a $W$ boson, where the boson decays leptonically. We use the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy collected by the Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.9 fb$^{-1}$. The data are found to be consistent with standard-model expec…
We present a search for tau sneutrino production using the Tevatron ppbar collision data collected with the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb^-1. We focus on the scenarios predicted by the R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetric models in which tau sneutrinos decay to two charged leptons of different flavor. With the data consistent with the standard model expectations, we set the upper limits on sigma(ppbar -> tau sneutrino)*BR(tau sneutrino ->emu,mutau,etau) and use these results to constrain the RPV couplings as a function of tau sneutrino mass.
We present the first direct measurement of the $W$ production charge asymmetry as a function of the $W$ boson rapidity $\yW$ in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ $\TeV$. We use a sample of $\wenu$ events in data from 1 $\ifb$ of integrated luminosity collected using the CDF II detector. In the region $|\yW| <$ 3.0, this measurement is capable of constraining the ratio of up and down quark momentum distributions in the proton more directly than in previous measurements of the asymmetry that are a function of the charged-lepton pseudorapidity.
We measure the ttbar production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in the lepton+jets channel. Two complementary methods discriminate between signal and background, b-tagging and a kinematic likelihood discriminant. Based on 0.9 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we measure sigma_ttbar=7.62+/-0.85 pb, assuming the current world average m_t=172.6 GeV. We compare our cross section measurement with theory predictions to determine a value for the top quark mass of 170+/-7 GeV.
We present a measurement of the W+W- production cross section using 184/pb of ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Using the dilepton decay channel W+W- -> l+l-vvbar, where the charged leptons can be either electrons or muons, we find 17 candidate events compared to an expected background of 5.0+2.2-0.8 events. The resulting W+W- production cross section measurement of sigma(ppbar -> W+W-) = 14.6 +5.8 -5.1 (stat) +1.8 -3.0 (syst) +-0.9 (lum) pb agrees well with the Standard Model expectation.
A search for gaugino pair production with a trilepton signature in the framework of R-parity violating supersymmetry via the couplings lambda_121, lambda_122, or lambda_133 is presented. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of L~360/pb, were collected from April 2002 to August 2004 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. This analysis considers final states with three charged leptons with the flavor combinations eel, mumul, and eetau (l=e or mu). No evidence for supersymmetry is found and limits at the 95% confidenc…
We describe a general search for resonances decaying to a neutral e-mu final state in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a data sample representing 344 pb^-1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF-II experiment, we compare Standard Model predictions with the number of observed events for invariant masses between 50 and 800 GeV/c^2. Finding no significant excess (5 events observed vs. 7.7 +/- 0.8 expected for e-mu invariant masses > 100 GeV/c^2), we set limits on sneutrino and Z' masses as functions of lepton family number violating couplings.
We report a search for a narrow ttbar resonance that decays into a lepton+jets final state based on an integrated luminosity of 5.3/fb of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits on the production cross section of such a resonance multiplied by its branching fraction to ttbar which we compare to predictions for a leptophobic topcolor Z' boson. We exclude such a resonance at the 95% confidence level for masses below 835 GeV.
We present a search for anomalous triple gauge couplings (ATGC) in WW and WZ boson production. The boson pairs are produced in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, and the data sample corresponds to 350 pb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. In this search one W decays to leptons, and the other boson (W or Z) decays hadronically. Combining with a previously published CDF measurement of Wgamma boson production yields ATGC limits of -0.18 < lambda < 0.17 and -0.46 < Delta kappa < 0.39 at the 95% confidence level, using a cut-off scale Lambda=1…
We present a study of eegamma and mumugamma events using 1109 (1009) pb-1 of data in the electron (muon) channel, respectively. These data were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar Collider at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. Having observed 453 (515) candidates in the eegamma (mumugamma) final state, we measure the Zgamma production cross section for a photon with transverse energy ET > 7 GeV, separation between the photon and leptons Delta R(lgamma) > 0.7, and invariant mass of the di-lepton pair M(ll) > 30 GeV/c^2, to be 4.96 +/- 0.30(stat. + syst.) +/- 0.30(lumi.) pb, in agreem…
We use the three lepton and missing energy "trilepton" signature to search for chargino-neutralino production with 2.0 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron ppbar collider. We expect an excess of approximately 11 supersymmetric events for a choice of parameters of the mSUGRA model, but our observation of 7 events is consistent with the standard model expectation of 6.4 events. We constrain the mSUGRA model of supersymmetry and rule out chargino masses up to 145 GeV/c^2 for a specific choice of parameters.
We present results of a search for WH -> lepton neutrino b bbar production in ppbar collisions based on the analysis of 1.05 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, using a neural network for separating the signal from backgrounds. No signal-like excess is observed, and we set 95 % C.L. upper limits on the WH production cross section multiplied by the branching ratio for H->bb for Higgs boson masses between 100 and 150 GeV. For a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV, we obtain an observed (expected) limit of 1.5 (1.4) pb, a factor of 11.4 (10.7) times larger than standard …
We present a search for ZZ and ZW vector boson pair production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using the leptonic decay channels ZZ --> ll nu nu, ZZ --> l l l' l' and ZW --> l l l' nu. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 194 pb-1 collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab, 3 candidate events are found with an expected background of 1.0 +/- 0.2 events. We set a 95% confidence level upper limit of 15.2 pb on the cross section for ZZ plus ZW production, compared to the standard model prediction of 5.0 +/- 0.4 pb.
We analyze a sample of W + jet events collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV to study ttbar production. We employ a simple kinematical variable "H", defined as the scalar sum of the transverse energies of the lepton, neutrino and jets. For events with a W boson and four or more jets, the shape of the "H" distribution deviates by 3.8 standard deviations from that expected from known backgrounds to ttbar production. However this distribution agrees well with a linear combination of background and ttbar events, the agreement being best for …
We present a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using a data sample corresponding to 1.7/fb of integrated luminosity collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We reconstruct ttbar events in the lepton+jets channel. The dominant background is the production of W bosons in association with multiple jets. To suppress this background, we identify electrons from the semileptonic decay of heavy-flavor jets. We measure a production cross section of 7.8 +/- 2.4 (stat) +/- 1.6 (syst) +/- 0.5 (lumi) pb. We present a preliminary result on a search for narrow-width resonances that decay into ttbar pairs using 130 pb^{-1} of lepton plus jets data in ppbar collisions at center of mass energy = 1.8 TeV. No significant deviation from Standard Model prediction is observed. 95% C.L. upper limits on the production cross section of the narrow-width resonance times its branching fraction to ttbar are presented for different resonance masses, M_X. We also exclude the existence of a leptophobic topcolor particle, X, with M_X < 560 GeV/c^2 for a width Γ_X = 0.012 M_X.
We present a search for the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. This search was conducted within the framework of the R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, assuming the stop decays dominantly to a lepton, a sneutrino, and a bottom quark. We searched for events with two oppositely-charged leptons, at least one jet, and missing transverse energy in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1fb^-1 collected by the CDF experiment. No significant evidence …
We have searched for first generation scalar leptoquark (LQ) pairs in the enu+jets channel using ppbar collider data (integrated luminosity= 115 pb^-1) collected by the DZero experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1992-96. The analysis yields no candidate events. We combine the results with those from the ee+jets and nunu+jets channels to obtain 95% confidence level (CL) upper limits on the LQ pair production cross section as a function of mass and of beta, the branching fraction to a charged lepton. Comparing with the next-to-leading order theory, we set 95% CL lower limits on the LQ mass…
A search for narrow resonances that decay into t-tbar pairs has been performed using 130 pb^{-1} of data in the lepton+jets channel collected in p-pbar collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. There is no significant deviation observed from the standard model, and upper limits at the 95 % confidence level on the product of the production cross section and branching fraction to t-tbar are presented for narrow resonances as a function of the resonance mass M_X. These limits are used to exclude the existence of a leptophobic topcolor particle with mass M_X < 560 GeV/c^2 and width Γ_X = 0.012 M_X.
We present the results of a search for pair production of a fourth-generation charge -1/3 quark (b') in sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV ppbar collisions using 88 pb^(-1) of data obtained with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume that both quarks decay via the flavor-changing neutral current process b' -> bZ and that the b' mass is greater than m_Z + m_b. We studied the decay mode b'b'bar -> ZZ b bbar where one Z0 decays into e^+e^- or mu^+ mu^- and the other decays hadronically, giving a signature of two leptons plus jets. An upper limit on the cross section of ppbar -> b'b'bar times [BR (b' -> bZ)]^2…
We consider the production of W bosons in hadron collisions, and the subsequent leptonic decay W->lnu_l. We study the asymmetry between the rapidity distributions of the charged leptons, and we present its computation up to the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD perturbation theory. Our calculation includes the dependence on the lepton kinematical cuts that are necessarily applied to select W-> lnu_l events in actual experimental analyses at hadron colliders. We illustrate the main differences between the W and lepton charge asymmetry, and we discuss their physical origin and the effe…
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson (H) in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in events containing a charged lepton (ell), missing transverse energy, and at least two jets, using 5.4 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. This analysis is sensitive primarily to Higgs bosons produced through the fusion of two gluons or two electroweak bosons, with subsequent decay H->WW->ell+nu+q'qbar, where ell is an electron or muon. The search is also sensitive to contributions from other production channels, such as WH->ell+nu+bbb…
