The notion of the weighted core inverse in a ring with involution was introduced, recently [Mosic et al. Comm. Algebra, 2018; 46(6); 2332-2345]. In this paper, we explore new representation and characterization of the weighted core inverse of sum and difference of two weighted core invertible elements in an unital ring with involution under different conditions. Further, we discuss reverse order laws and mixed-type reverse order laws for the weighted core invertible elements in a ring.
Within the framework of the theory of the column and row determinants, we obtain new determinantal representations of the W-weighted Drazin inverse over the quaternion skew field. We give determinantal representations of the W-weighted Drazin inverse by using previously introduced determinantal representations of the Drazin inverse, the Moore-Penrose inverse, and the limit representations of the W-weighted Drazin inverse in some special case.
We introduce and study a new class of Drazin inverses. An element $a$ in a ring $R$ has Drazin inverse $b$ if $a^2-ab\in N(R)$, $ab=ba$ and $b=bab$. Every Hirano inverse of an element is its Drazin inverse. We drive several characterization for this generalized inverse.
Let $R$ be a unital ring with involution. In this paper, several new necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the Moore-Penrose inverse of an element in a ring $R$ are given. In addition, the formulae of the Moore-Penrose inverse of an element in a ring are presented.
We introduce and study a new class of generalized inverse in rings. An element $a$ in a ring $R$ has generalized Hirano inverse if there exists some $b\in R$ such that $bab=b, b\in comm^2(a), a^2-ab \in R^{qnil}$
In a unitary ring with involution, we prove that each element has at most one weak group inverse if and only if each idempotent element has a unique weak group inverse. Furthermore, we define the $m$-weak group inverse and show some properties of $m$-weak group inverse.
We present some formulae for the Drazin inverse of difference and product of idempotents in a ring. A number of results of bounded linear operators in Banach spaces are extended to the ring case.
In this article several properties of the inverse along an element will be studied in the context of unitary rings. New characterizations of the existence of this inverse will be proved. Moreover, the set of all invertible elements along a fixed element will be fully described. Futhermore, commuting inverse along an element will be characterized. The special cases of the group inverse, the (generalized) Drazin inverse and the Moore-Penrose inverse (in rings with involutions) will be also considered.
In this paper, we investigate the weighted core-EP inverse introduced by Ferreyra, Levis and Thome. Several computational representations of the weighted core-EP inverse are obtained in terms of singular-value decomposition, full-rank decomposition and QR decomposition. These representations are expressed in terms of various matrix powers as well as matrix product involving the core-EP inverse, Moore-Penrose inverse and usual matrix inverse. Finally, those representations involving only Moore-Penrose inverse are compared and analyzed via computational complexity and numerical examples.
In this paper, we investigate some properties of annihilator $(b,c)$-inverses in an arbitrary ring. We demonstrate that one-sided annihilator $(b,c)$-inverses of elements in arbitrary rings may behave differently in contrast to one-sided $(b,c)$-inverses. Also, we discuss intertwining property, absorption law, reverse order law, and Cline's formula for annihilator $(b,c)$-inverses. As applications, we improve and extend some known results to $(b,c)$-inverses. In particular, we derive an equivalent condition of intertwining property for $(b,c)$-inverses in semigroups.
In this paper, we study the Moore-Penrose inverses of differences and products of projectors in a ring with involution. Also, some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such inverses are given, and their expressions are presented.
Let $R$ be an associative ring with unit $1$, and $a, b, c\in R$ satisfy $a(ba)^{2}=abaca=acaba=(ac)^{2}a$, this paper proves that $1-ac$ has generalized Drazin inverse (Drazin inverse, pseudo Drazin inverse, respectively) if and only if $1-ba$ has generalized Drazin inverse (Drazin inverse, pseudo Drazin inverse, respectively). In particular, we obtain new common spectral properties for $ac$ and $ba$ in Banach algebras. As applications, new extension of Jacobson's lemma for B-Fredholm elements and generalized Fredholm elements in rings is established.
We introduce and study a new class of generalized inverses in rings. An element $a$ in a ring $R$ has generalized Zhou inverse if there exists $b\in R$ such that $bab=b, b\in comm^2(a), a^n-ab\in \sqrt{J(R)}$ for some $n\in {\Bbb N}$. We prove that $a\in R$ has generalized Zhou inverse if and only if there exists $p=p^2\in comm^2(a)$ such that $a^n-p\in \sqrt{J(R)}$ for some $n\in {\Bbb N}$. Cline's formula and Jacobson's Lemma for generalized Zhou inverses are established. In particular, the Zhou inverse in a ring is characterized.
Let $R$ be a ring and $b, c\in R$. In this paper, we give some characterizations of the $(b,c)$-inverse, in terms of the direct sum decomposition, the annihilator and the invertible elements. Moreover, elements with equal $(b,c)$-idempotents related to their $(b, c)$-inverses are characterized, and the reverse order rule for the $(b,c)$-inverse is considered.
Let $R$ be a ring with involution. In this paper, we introduce a new type of generalized inverse called pseudo core inverse in $R$. The notion of core inverse was introduced by Baksalary and Trenkler for matrices of index 1 in 2010 and then it was generalized to an arbitrary $*$-ring case by Rakić, Dinčić and Djordjević in 2014. Our definition of pesudo core inverse extends the notion of core inverse to elements of an arbitrary index in $R$. Meanwhile, it generalizes the notion of core-EP inverse, introduced by Manjunatha Prasad and Mohana for matrices in 2014, to the case of $*$-ring. Some eq…
In this paper we introduce a new generalized inverse in a ring -- one-sided $(b, c)$-inverse, derived as an extension of $(b, c)$-inverse. This inverse also generalizes one-sided inverse along an element, which was recently introduced by H. H. Zhu et al. [H. H. Zhu, J. L. Chen, P. Patrício, Further results on the inverse along an element in semigroups and rings, Linear Multilinear Algebra, 64 (3) (2016) 393-403]. Also, here we present one-sided annihilator $(b, c)$-inverse, which is an extension of the annihilator $(b, c)$-inverse. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of these…
Existence criteria for the $(b,c)$-inverse are given.% in terms of annihilators. We present explicit expressions for the $(b,c)$-inverse by using inner inverses. We answer the question when the $(b,c)$-inverse of $a\in R$ is an inner inverse of $a$. As applications, we give a unified theory of some well-known results of the $\{1,3\}$-inverse, the $\{1,4\}$-inverse, the Moore-Penrose inverse, the group inverse and the core inverse.
We study skew inverse power series extensions R[[y^{-1};tau,delta]], where R is a noetherian ring equipped with an automorphism tau and a tau-derivation delta. We find that these extensions share many of the well known features of commutative power series rings. As an application of our analysis, we see that the iterated skew inverse power series rings corresponding to nth Weyl algebras are complete local, noetherian, Auslander regular domains whose right Krull dimension, global dimension, and classical Krull dimension, are all equal to 2n.
In this paper, we extend notions of the weighted core-EP right and left inverses, the weighted DMP and MPD inverses, and the CMP inverse to matrices over the quaternion skew field H that have some features in comparison to these inverses over the complex field. We give the direct methods of their computing, namely, their determinantal representations by using noncommutative column and row determinants previously introduced by the author. As the special cases, by using the usual determinant, we give their determinantal representations for matrices with complex entries as well. A numerical examp…
We present equivalent conditions of reverse order law for the $(b, c)$-inverse $(aw)^{(b,c)}=w^{(b,s)}a^{(t,c)}$ to hold in a ring. Also, we study various mixed-type reverse order laws for the $(b,c)$-inverse. As a consequence, we get results related to the reverse order law for the inverse along an element. More general case of reverse order law $(a_1a_2)^{(b_3, c_3)}=a_2^{(b_2, c_2)}a_1^{(b_1, c_1)}$ is considered too.
By using determinantal representations of the W-weighted Drazin inverse previously obtained by the author within the framework of the theory of the column-row determinants, we get explicit formulas for determinantal representations of the W-weighted Drazin inverse solutions (analogs of Cramer's rule) of the quaternion matrix equations $ {\bf W}{\bf A}{\bf W}{\bf X}={\bf D}$, $ {\bf X}{\bf W}{\bf A}{\bf W}={\bf D} $, and ${\bf W}_{1}{\bf A}{\bf W}_{1}{\bf X}{\bf W}_{2}{\bf B}{\bf W}_{2}={\bf D} $.
The classes of 1MP-inverses and MP1-inverses are recently introduced classes of generalized inverses of complex matrix. Actually, they coincide with the classes of $\{1,2,3\}$ and $\{1,2,4\}$ inverses, respectively. We consider these inverses in the context of a ring with involution and prove that their most important characterizations and properties remain true. We show that the binary relations based on these inverses are in fact the well known left-star and right-star partial orders. We extend these relations to the ring case, connect them with the unified theory of partial order relations …
We introduce the class of partially invertible modules and show that it is an inverse category which we call the Picard inverse category. We use this category to generalize the classical construction of crossed products to, what we call, generalized epsilon-crossed products and show that these coincide with the class of epsilon-strongly groupoid graded rings. We then use generalized epsilon-crossed groupoid products to obtain a generalization, from the group graded situation to the groupoid graded case, of the bijection from a certain second cohomology group, defined by the grading and the fun…
Generalized inverses of tensors play increasingly important roles in computational mathematics and numerical analysis. It is appropriate to develop the theory of generalized inverses of tensors within the algebraic structure of a ring. In this paper, we study different generalized inverses of tensors over a commutative ring and a non-commutative ring. Several numerical examples are provided in support of the theoretical results. We also propose algorithms for computing the inner inverses, the Moore-Penrose inverse, and weighted Moore-Penrose inverse of tensors over a non-commutative ring. The …
The core inverse for a complex matrix was introduced by Baksalary and Trenkler. Rakić, Dinčić and Djordjević generalized the core inverse of a complex matrix to the case of an element in a ring. They also proved that the core inverse of an element in a ring can be characterized by five equations and every core invertible element is group invertible. It is natural to ask when a group invertible element is core invertible, in this paper, we will answer this question. We will use three equations to characterize the core inverse of an element. That is, let $a, b\in R$, then $a\in R^{\tiny\textcirc…
We study the Drazin inverses of the sum and product of two elements in a ring. For Drazin invertible elements $a$ and $b$ such that $a^2b=aba$ and $b^2a=bab$, it is shown that $ab$ is Drazin invertible and that $a+b$ is Drazin invertible if and only if $1+a^Db$ is Drazin invertible. Moreover, the formulae of $(ab)^D$ and $(a+b)^D$ are presented. Thus, a generalization of the main result of Zhuang, Chen et al. (Linear Multilinear Algebra 60 (2012) 903-910) is given.
$R$ is a unital ring with involution. We investigate the characterizations and representations of weighted core inverse of an element in $R$ by idempotents and units. For example, let $a\in R$ and $e\in R$ be an invertible Hermitian element, $n\geqslant 1$, then $a$ is $e$-core invertible if and only if there exists an element (or an idempotent) $p$ such that $(ep)^{\ast}=ep$, $pa=0$ and $a^{n}+p$ (or $a^{n}(1-p)+p$) is invertible. As a consequence, let $e, f\in R$ be two invertible Hermitian elements, then $a$ is weighted-$\mathrm{EP}$ with respect to $(e, f)$ if and only if there exists an e…
It is proved that the exchange property, the Bass stable rank and the quasi-Bass property are all preserved under surjective inverse limits. This is then applied to multiplier rings by showing that in many cases can be obtained as inverse limits.
In a semiprime ring, von Neumann regular elements are determined by their inner inverses. In particular, for elements $a,b$ of a von Neumann regular ring $R$, $a=b$ if and only if $I(a)=I(b)$, where $I(x)$ denotes the set of inner inverses of $x\in R$. We also prove that, in a semiprime ring, the same is true for reflexive inverses.
In [Comput. Math. Appl. 59 (2010) 764-778], Baksalary and Trenkler characterized some complex idempotent matrices of the form $(I-PQ)^†P(I-Q)$, $(I-QP)^†(I-Q)$ and $P(P+Q-QP)^†$ in terms of the column spaces and null spaces of $P$ and $Q$, where $P, Q\in \mathbb{C}^{\textsf{OP}}_n = \{L\in \mathbb{C}_{n,n}\ |\ L^2 = L = L^*\}$. We generalize these results from $\mathbb{C}_{n,n}$ to any *-reducing rings.
For $V$ a vector space over a field, or more generally, over a division ring, it is well-known that every $x\in\mathrm{End}(V)$ has an <i>inner inverse</i>, i.e., an element $y\in\mathrm{End}(V)$ satisfying $xyx=x.$ We show here that a large class of such $x$ have inner inverses $y$ that satisfy with $x$ an infinite family of additional monoid relations, making the monoid generated by $x$ and $y$ what is known as an <i>inverse monoid</i> (definition recalled). We obtain consequences of these relations, and related results. P. Nielsen and J. Šter, in a paper to appear, show that a much larger c…
In this paper, we introduce a ring isomorphism between the Clifford algebra $C\ell_{1,2}$ and a ring of matrices. By such a ring isomorphism, we introduce the concept of the Moore-Penrose inverse in Clifford algebra $C\ell_{1,2}$. Using the Moore-Penrose inverse, we solve the linear equation $axb=d$ in $C\ell_{1,2}$. We also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for two numbers in $C\ell_{1,2}$ to be similar.
In this paper, we first prove that if a is both left (b, c)-invertible and left (c, b)-invertible, then a is both (b, c)-invertible and (c, b)-invertible in a *-monoid, which generalized the recent result about the inverse along an element by Wang and Mosic, under the conditions (ab)* = ab and (ac)* = ac. In addition, we consider that ba is (c, b)- invertible, and at the same time ca is (b, c)-invertible under the same conditions, which extend the related results about Moore-Penrose inverses by Chen et al. to (b, c)-inverses. As applications, we obtain that under condition (a2)* = a2, a is an …
In this paper, we investigate *-DMP elements in $*$-semigroups and $*$-rings. The notion of *-DMP element was introduced by Patrício in 2004. An element $a$ is *-DMP if there exists a positive integer $m$ such that $a^{m}$ is EP. We first characterize *-DMP elements in terms of the \{1,3\}-inverse, Drazin inverse and pseudo core inverse, respectively. Then, we give the pseudo core decomposition utilizing the pseudo core inverse, which extends the core-EP decomposition introduced by Wang for matrices to an arbitrary $*$-ring; and this decomposition turns to be a useful tool to characterize *-DM…
In this paper, we give a generalized Cline's formula for the generalized Drazin inverse. Let $R$ be a ring, and let $a,b,c,d\in R$ satisfying $$\begin{array}{c} (ac)^2 = (db)(ac), (db)^2 = (ac)(db);\\ b(ac)a = b(db)a, c(ac)d = c(db)d.\end{array}$$ Then $ac\in R^d$ if and only if $bd\in R^d$. In this case, $(bd)^d = b((ac)^d)^2 d$. We also present generalized Cline's formulas for Drazin and group inverses. Some weaker conditions in a Banach algebra are also investigated. These extend the main results of Cline's formula on g-Drazin inverse of Liao, Chen and Cui (Bull. Malays. Math. Soc., 37 (201…

Given an action $φ$ of of inverse semigroup $S$ on a ring $A$ (with domain of $φ(s)$ denoted by $D_{s^*}$) we show that if the ideals $D_e$, with $e$ an idempotent, are unital, then the skew inverse semigroup ring $A\rtimes S$ can be realized as the convolution algebra of an ample groupoid with coefficients in a sheaf of rings. Conversely, we show that the convolution algebra of an ample groupoid with coefficients in a sheaf of rings is isomorphic to a skew inverse semigroup ring of this sort. We recover known results in the literature for Steinberg algebras over a field as special cases.
The notion of weighted $(b,c)$-inverse of an element in rings were introduced, very recently [Comm. Algebra, 48 (4) (2020): 1423-1438]. In this paper, we further elaborate on this theory by establishing a few characterizations of this inverse and their relationships with other $(v, w)$-weighted $(b,c)$-inverses. We introduce some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the hybrid $(v, w)$-weighted $(b,c)$-inverse and annihilator $(v, w)$-weighted $(b,c)$-inverse of elements in rings. In addition to this, we explore a few sufficient conditions for the reverse-order law of the a…
Weighted singular value decomposition (WSVD) and a representation of the weighted Moore-Penrose inverse of a quaternion matrix by WSVD have been derived. Using this representation, limit and determinantal representations of the weighted Moore-Penrose inverse of a quaternion matrix have been obtained within the framework of the theory of the noncommutative column-row determinants. By using the obtained analogs of the adjoint matrix, we get the Cramer rules for the weighted Moore-Penrose solutions of left and right systems of quaternion linear equations.
Let $A$ and $B$ be unital rings. An additive map $T:A\to B$ is called a weighted Jordan homomorphism if $c=T(1)$ is an invertible central element and $cT(x^2) = T(x)^2$ for all $x\in A$. We provide assumptions, which are in particular fulfilled when $A=B=M_n(R)$ with $n\ge 2$ and $R$ any unital ring with $\frac{1}{2}$, under which every surjective additive map $T:A\to B$ with the property that $T(x)T(y)+T(y)T(x)=0$ whenever $xy=yx=0$ is a weighted Jordan homomorphism. Further, we show that if $A$ is a prime ring with char$(A)\ne 2,3,5$, then a bijective additive map $T:A\to A$ is a weighted Jo…
We present new generalized Cline's formula and Jacobson's lemma for the g-Drazin inverse in a ring. These extend many known results, e.g., Chen and Abdolyousefi (Generalized Jacobson's Lemma in a Banach algebra, Comm. Algebra, {\bf 49}(2021), 3263--3272), Yan and Zeng (The generalized inverses of the products of two elements in a ring, Turk. J. Math., {\bf 44}(2020), 1744--1756).
Given a partial action $π$ of an inverse semigroup $S$ on a ring $\mathcal{A}$ one may construct its associated skew inverse semigroup ring $\mathcal{A} \rtimes_πS$. Our main result asserts that, when $\mathcal{A}$ is commutative, the ring $\mathcal{A} \rtimes_πS$ is simple if, and only if, $\mathcal{A}$ is a maximal commutative subring of $\mathcal{A} \rtimes_πS$ and $\mathcal{A}$ is $S$-simple. We apply this result in the context of topological inverse semigroup actions to connect simplicity of the associated skew inverse semigroup ring with topological properties of the action. Furthermore,…
