Based on an improved multiphase transport (AMPT) model, which gives a good description of proton production with a smooth quark matter to hadronic matter transition in relativistic heavy ion collisions, we study deuteron and triton production from the coalescence of nucleons at the kinetic freezeout of these collisions. For Au+Au collisions at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}$ from 7.7 GeV to 200 GeV available at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), we find that the yield ratio $N_\text{t}N_\text{p}/N_\text{d}^2$ of proton, deuteron\com{,} and triton is essentially a constant as a function of collision energy. Our result confirms the expectation that without a first-order quark to hadronic matter phase transition in the produced matter or its approach to the critical point of the QCD matter, this yield ratio does not show any non-monotonic behavior in its collision energy dependence.
Using the multiphase transport (AMPT) model, we study the relative neutron density fluctuation and neutron-proton correlation in matter produced by Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}} = $7.7-200 GeV. The rapidity, centrality, and energy dependence of these two observations are also discussed. The light nuclei yield ratio of proton, deuteron, and triton $N_tN_p/N_d^2$ calculated directly from the relative neutron density fluctuation and neutron-proton correlation, decreases with rapidity coverage and increases with collision centrality. Our study also found that the ratio does not exhibit a…
A multi-phase transport (AMPT) model was constructed as a self-contained kinetic theory-based description of relativistic nuclear collisions as it contains four main components: the fluctuating initial condition, a parton cascade, hadronization, and a hadron cascade. Here, we review the main developments after the first public release of the AMPT source code in 2004 and the corresponding publication that described the physics details of the model at that time. We also discuss possible directions for future developments of the AMPT model to better study the properties of the dense matter create…
We study the rotational collective motion of the quark-gluon plasma in relativistic heavy ion collisions using the widely-adopted AMPT (A Multi-Phase Transport) model. The global angular momentum, the average vorticity carried by the quark-gluon plasma, and the locally defined vorticity fields are computed for Au+Au collisions, with detailed information of their time evolution, spatial distribution, as well as the dependence on beam energy and collision centrality.
Recently we have updated a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model with modern parton distribution functions of nuclei (nPDFs). Here we study open charm production in the updated AMPT model and compare to the experimental data from $pp$ and $AA$ collisions over a wide range of collision energies. Besides the update of nPDFs, we have removed the transverse momentum cutoff on initial heavy quark productions and also included the resultant heavy flavor cross section into the total minijet cross section in the initial condition as described by the HIJING model. We show that the AMPT model with these up…
Momentum-space azimuthal harmonic event planes (EP) are constructed from final-state midrapidity particles binned in transverse momentum (pT ) in sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions in a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model. The EP correlations between pT bins, corrected by EP resolutions, are smaller than unity. This indicates that the EP's decorrelate over pT in AMPT, qualitatively consistent with data and hydrodynamic calculations. It is further found that the EP correlations approximately factorize into single pT-bin EP correlations to a common plane. This common plane appears to be the mo…
An analysis method is proposed to study the forward-backward (FB) multiplicity fluctuation in high-energy nuclear collisions, built on the earlier work of Bzdak and Teaney. The method allows the decomposition of the centrality dependence of average multiplicity from the dynamical event-by-event (EbyE) fluctuation of multiplicity in pseudorapidity. Application of the method to AMPT and HIJING models shows that the long-range component of the FB correlation is captured by a few longitudinal harmonics, with the first component driven by the asymmetry in the number of participating nucleons in the…
A multi-phase transport (AMPT) model has been successful in explaining a wide range of observables in relativistic heavy ion collisions. In this work, we implement a modern set of free proton parton distribution functions and an impact parameter-dependent nuclear shadowing in the AMPT model. After refitting the parameters of the two-component initial condition model to the experimental data on $pp$ and $p \bar p$ total and inelastic cross sections from $\sqrt s \sim $ 4 GeV to 13 TeV, we study particle productions in $pp$ and $AA$ collisions. We show that the updated AMPT model with string mel…
We have studied the average charged particle density ($<$dN$_{ch}$/d$η$$>$), transverse momentum ($p_{\mathrm{T}}$) spectra, $<$$p_{\mathrm{T}}$$>$ and azimuthal anisotropies of inclusive charged particles produced in Xe+Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV using A Multiphase Transport Model (AMPT), which includes the deformation of Xe$^{129}$ nucleus. Calculations have been performed with the string melting version of AMPT model and compared with the recent measurements from the ALICE experiment. The model results over predict the measured $<$dN$_{ch}$/d$η$$>$ for central collisions, a…
Shannon information entropy provides an effective tool to study the evolution process in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The time evolution process of thermodynamic entropy $S_{\rm thermal}$, multiple entropy $S_{\rm mul}$, and configuration entropy $S_{\rm conf}$ at RHIC is studied using the AMPT model to generate central Au-Au collisions. By superimposing the three kinds of information entropy, we can get a more complete information entropy of the system to describe the physical information of the relativistic heavy ion collision. The results show that the four stages of the time evolutio…
The system size dependence of baryon-strangeness (BS) correlations ($C_{BS}$) are investigated with a multiphase transport (AMPT) model for various collision systems from $\mathrm{^{10}B+^{10}B}$, $\mathrm{^{12}C+^{12}C}$, $\mathrm{^{16}O+^{16}O}$, $\mathrm{^{20}Ne+^{20}Ne}$, $\mathrm{^{40}Ca+^{40}Ca}$, $\mathrm{^{96}Zr+^{96}Zr}$, and $\mathrm{^{197}Au+^{197}Au}$ at RHIC energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ of 200, 39, 27, 20, and 7.7 GeV. Both effects of hadron rescattering and a combination of different hadrons play a leading role for baryon-strangeness correlations. When the kinetic window is limited t…
Using the coalescence model based on the phase-space distributions of protons, neutrons, Lambdas and their antiparticles from a multiphase transport (AMPT) model, we study the production of deuteron, triton, helium 3, hypertriton, hyperhelium 3 and their antinuclei in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV. The resulting transverse momentum spectra, elliptic flows and coalescence parameters for these nuclei are presented and compared with available experimental data. We also show the constituent number scaled elliptic flows of these nuclei and discuss their implications.
Higher-order cumulants of the distributions of conserved charges, such as net-baryon number, are sensitive to the quantum chromodynamics(QCD) phase transition and the QCD critical point. We calculate the cumulants and correlation functions of proton, antiproton, and net-proton multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7.7$ GeV using a multiphase transport model(AMPT). The AMPT model can basically describe the trends of cumulants, cumulant ratios, (normalized) correlation functions of the proton and net-proton measured by the STAR experiment. The multiproton (baryon) co…
In this paper, we study and predict the charged-particle pseudorapidity multiplicity density ($\frac{dN_{ch}}{dη}$), transverse momentum spectra of identified particles and their ratios in relativistic heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), using the string-melting version of a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model with improved quark coalescence method. Results of the charged-particle pseudorapidity multiplicity density from AMPT model calculations for Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV are compared with the experimental data. Good agreements are generally found betwe…
Background: The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is extensively studied in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC. An azimuthal correlator called $R_{Ψ_{m}}$ was proposed to measure the CME. By observing the same $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ and $R_{Ψ_{3}}$ (convex) distributions from A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model, by contrasting data and model as well as large and small systems and by event shape engineering (ESE), a recent preprint (arXiv:2006.04251v1) from STAR suggests that the $R_{Ψ_{m}}$ observable is sensitive to the CME signal and relatively insensitive to backgrounds, and their Au+Au data are inc…
We study the pseudorapidity dependent hydrodynamic response in heavy-ion collisions. A differential hydrodynamic relation is obtained for elliptic flow. Using event-by-event simulations of 3+1D MUSIC, with initial conditions generated via a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model, the differential response relation is verified. Based on the response relation, we find that the two-point correlation of elliptic flow in pseudorapidity are separated into the fluid response and the two-point correlation of initial eccentricity.
The Multi-Phase Transport model (AMPT) is used to study the final state effects on the Symmetric Correlations (SC), Asymmetric Correlations (ASC), Normalized Symmetric Correlations (NSC), and Normalized Asymmetric Correlations (NASC) in Au+Au collisions at 200~GeV. The correlators' sensitivity to non-flow effects associated with long- and short-range non-flow correlations are also discussed using the HIJING model. The results indicate that SC, ASC, NSC, and NASC can give accompanying constraints for initial and final state effects. In addition, conducting further detailed experimental measurem…
We evaluate the effects of preequilibrium dynamics on observables in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We simulate the initial nonequilibrium phase within A MultiPhase Transport (AMPT) model, while the subsequent near-equilibrium evolution is modeled using (2+1)-dimensional relativistic viscous hydrodynamics. We match the two stages of evolution carefully by calculating the full energy-momentum tensor from AMPT and using it as input for the hydrodynamic evolution. We find that when the preequilibrium evolution is taken into account, final-state observables are insensitive to the switchin…
Long range correlations are searched for by analyzing the experimental data on 16O-AgBr and 32S-AgBr collisions at 200A GeV/c and the results are compared with the predictions of a multi phase transport (AMPT) model. The findings reveal that the observed forward-backward (F-B) multiplicity correlations are mainly of short-range in nature. The range of F-B correlations are observed to extend with increasing projectile mass. The observed extended range of F-B correlations might be due to overall multiplicity fluctuations arising because of nuclear geometry. The findings are not sufficient for ma…
Azimuthal distributions of radial momentum and velocity in relativistic heavy ion collisions
With the string melting version of a multiphase transport(AMPT) model, we analyze the transverse momentum dependence of HBT radius $R_{\rm s}$ and the single-pion transverse angle distribution in central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{S_{NN}}=19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, 200$ GeV. And base on a series of functions, a numerical connection between these two phenomena has been built. We can estimate the single-pion transverse angle distribution from the HBT analysis.
Understanding the production mechanism of light (anti-)nuclei in high-energy nuclear collisions and cosmic rays has been a long-standing problem in nuclear physics. In the present study, we develop a stochastic method to solve the relativistic kinetic equations for light nuclei production from many-body reactions with the inclusion of their finite sizes. The present approach gives an excellent description of the deuteron and helium-3 data from central Au+Au (Pb+Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ $=$ $200~\rm GeV$ ($2.76~\rm TeV$). It can also naturally explain their suppressed production in…
Momentum correlation functions of light (anti)nuclei formed by the coalescence mechanism of (anti)nucleons are calculated for several central heavy-ion collision systems, namely $_{5}^{10}\textrm{B}+_{5}^{10}\textrm{B}$, $_{8}^{16}\textrm{O}+_{8}^{16}\textrm{O}$, $_{20}^{40}\textrm{Ca}+_{20}^{40}\textrm{Ca}$ as well as $_{79}^{197}\textrm{Au}+_{79}^{197}\textrm{Au}$ in different centralities at center of mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39 GeV within the framework of A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model complemented by the Lednick$\acute{y}$ and Lyuboshitz analytical method. Momentum correlation …
Event-by-event fluctuations (ebe) of hadronic patterns are investigated in terms of voids by analyzing the experimental data on 4.5, 14.5 and 60A GeV/c 16O-AgBr collisions. The findings are compared with the predictions of a multi-phase transport AMPT model. Dependence of voids on phase space bin width is examined in terms of two lowest moments of event-by-event fluctuations of voids, <Gq> and Sq. The findings reveal that scaling exponent estimated from the observed power-law behavior of the voids may be used to characterize the various properties of hadronic phase transition. The results also…
We study the vorticity patterns in relativistic heavy ion collisions with respect to the collision energy. The collision energy is related to the chemical potential used in the thermal - statistical models that assume approximate chemical equilibrium after the relativistic collision. We use the multiphase transport model (AMPT) to study the vorticity in the initial parton phase as well as the final hadronic phase of the relativistic heavy ion collision. We find that as the chemical potential increases, the vortices are larger in size. Using different definitions of vorticity, we find that vorti…
Recently studies of the differential nature of the flow angle fluctuations, known as event plane angular decorrelation, indicated that measurements that assume a common symmetry plane may need to consider the flow angle fluctuations effect. Using the HIJING and AMPT models, it is shown that the flow angle fluctuations measurements, obtained with the two- and three-subevents correlation method, could have significant non-flow effects associated with long- and short-range non-flow correlations. The current study demonstrates the four-subevents cumulant methods' ability to reduce the non-flow eff…
We introduce additional coalescence factors for the production of strange baryons in a multiphase transport (AMPT) model in order to describe the enhanced production of multistrange hadrons observed in Pb-Pb collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV at the Large hadron Collider (LHC) and Au+Au collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV at Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC).This extended AMPT model is found to also give a reasonable description of the multiplicity dependence of the strangeness enhancement observed in high multiplicity events in $pp$ collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV …
The mass ordering of $v_{2}^{hadron}$ is regarded as one of the key signatures of collective behaviour in ultra relativistic heavy ion collisions. This observation has been found to be in compliance with the hydrodynamical response of a strongly interacting system to the initial spatial anisotropy. Flow co-efficients measured with identified particles in p-Pb/d-Au collisions have shown similar mass-splitting of $v_{2}^{hadron}$ indicating towards the presence of collective dynamics in small collision systems. Arguably, small size in the overlap geometry of such colliding systems may not be sui…
The effects of relativistic kinematics are studied for nuclear collisions of equal mass nuclei. It is found that the relativistic and non-relativistic elastic scattering amplitudes are nearly indistinguishable, and, hence, the relativistic and non-relativistic differential cross sections become indistinguishable. These results are explained by analyzing the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with the first order optical potential that was employed in the calculation
We have investigated energy levels mirror nuclei of the 17O and 17F in relativistic and non-relativistic shell model. The nuclei 17O and 17F can be modeled as a doubly-magic 17O=n+(N=Z=8) and 17F=p+(N=Z=8), with one additional nucleon (valence) in the ld5/2 level. Then we have selected the quadratic Hellmann potential for interaction between core and single nucleon. Using Parametric Nikiforov-Uvarov method, we have calculated the energy levels and wave function in Dirac and Schrodinger equations for relativistic and non-relativistic, respectively. Finally, we have computed the binding and exci…
We study the multiplicity fluctuation and correlation of identified mesons and baryons formed at the hadronization by the quark combination mechanism in the context of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Based on the statistical method of free quark combination, we derive the two-hadron multiplicity correlations such as meson-meson and meson-baryon correlations, and take the effects of quark number fluctuation at hadronization into account by a Taylor expansion method. After including the decay contributions, we calculate the dynamical fluctuation observable $ν_{dyn}$ for $\text{K}π$, $pπ…
Correlation measurements with respect to the spectator and participant planes in relativistic heavy ion collisions were proposed to extract the chiral magnetic effect (CME) from background dominated azimuthal correlators. This paper investigates the effects of two- and three-particle nonflow correlations on the extracted CME signal fraction, $f_{\text{CME}}$. It is found, guided by a multiphase transport (AMPT) model and the heavy ion jet interaction generator (HIJING) together with experimental data, that the nonflow effects amount to approximately $(4\pm5)$% and $(-5\pm3)$% without and with …
The production of light nuclei in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is well described by both the thermal model, where light nuclei are in equilibrium with all other hadron species present in a fireball, and by the coalescence model, where light nuclei are formed due to final state interactions after the fireball decays. A method is proposed to falsify one of the models. We suggest to measure a hadron-deuteron correlation function which carries information about the source of the deuterons and allows one to determine whether a deuteron is directly emitted from the fireball or if it is formed a…
