We introduce additional coalescence factors for the production of strange baryons in a multiphase transport (AMPT) model in order to describe the enhanced production of multistrange hadrons observed in Pb-Pb collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV at the Large hadron Collider (LHC) and Au+Au collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV at Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC).This extended AMPT model is found to also give a reasonable description of the multiplicity dependence of the strangeness enhancement observed in high multiplicity events in $pp$ collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV and $p$-Pb collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. We find that the coalescence factors depend on the system size but not much on whether the system is produced from A+A or p+A collisions. The extended AMPT model thus provides a convenient way to model the mechanism underlying the observed strangeness enhancement in collisions of both small and large systems at RHIC and LHC energies.
The system size dependence of baryon-strangeness (BS) correlations ($C_{BS}$) are investigated with a multiphase transport (AMPT) model for various collision systems from $\mathrm{^{10}B+^{10}B}$, $\mathrm{^{12}C+^{12}C}$, $\mathrm{^{16}O+^{16}O}$, $\mathrm{^{20}Ne+^{20}Ne}$, $\mathrm{^{40}Ca+^{40}Ca}$, $\mathrm{^{96}Zr+^{96}Zr}$, and $\mathrm{^{197}Au+^{197}Au}$ at RHIC energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ of 200, 39, 27, 20, and 7.7 GeV. Both effects of hadron rescattering and a combination of different hadrons play a leading role for baryon-strangeness correlations. When the kinetic window is limited t…
Higher-order cumulants of the distributions of conserved charges, such as net-baryon number, are sensitive to the quantum chromodynamics(QCD) phase transition and the QCD critical point. We calculate the cumulants and correlation functions of proton, antiproton, and net-proton multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7.7$ GeV using a multiphase transport model(AMPT). The AMPT model can basically describe the trends of cumulants, cumulant ratios, (normalized) correlation functions of the proton and net-proton measured by the STAR experiment. The multiproton (baryon) co…
In the string melting version of a multiphase transport model, the hadronization algorithm has been improved by favoring parton combinations close in not only coordinate space but also momentum space. Formation probabilities of mesons, baryons, and antibaryons during hadronization are determined by their corresponding Wigner functions for the valence parton combinations with no free parameters, and the net baryon, electric, and strangeness charges are conserved during quark coalescence. Effects of the hadronization on anisotropic flows, collision energy dependence of the proton directed flow, …
We extend our earlier study on two-particle angular correlations in $pp$ collisions at low transverse momentum ($p_T$) to $p$-Pb, Pb-Pb and Au-Au collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. We mainly use the string melting version of a multiphase transport model with improved quark coalescence for this study. We start from the analysis of $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$ and $p$($\bar{p}$) $p_T$ and rapidity distributions at different centralities. We then focus on two-particle angular correlations in $p$-Pb collisions at $\mathrm{\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02}$ TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at $\mathrm{\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 2.76}$ …
A new approach based on antisymmetrized molecular dynamics is proposed to correctly take account of the many-body correlation. We applied it to the spectra of low-lying, light and strange baryons. The inclusion of the quark-quark correlation is vital to predict the precise spectra, and the semi-relativistic kinematics is also important to correct the level ordering. The baryon spectra calculated by the present method is as precise as the Faddeev calculation.
We study the strangeness production in hot and dense nuclear medium, by requiring the conservation of the baryon density, electric charge fraction and zero net strangeness. The hadronic equation of state is investigated by means of an effective relativistic mean field model, with the inclusion of the full octet of baryons and kaon mesons. Kaons are considered taking into account of an effective chemical potential depending on the self-consistent interaction between baryons. The obtained results are compared with a minimal coupling scheme, calculated for different values of the anti-kaon optica…
In this contribution, we present the open-flavor strong decays of light baryons computed within the framework of quark model. The transition amplitudes are computed using a modified $^3P_0$ operator, where a mechanism strange suppression is taken into account. Also we discus the strange suppression within an extension of the quark model.
The stopping behaviour of baryons in massive heavy ion collisions (at SPS, RHIC and LHC) is investigated within different microscopic models. At SPS-energies the predictions range from full stopping to virtually total transparency. Experimental data are indicating strong stopping. The initial baryo-chemical potentials and temperatures at collider energies and their impact on the formation probability of strange baryon clusters and strangelets are discussed.
In a dynamical model of QGP at RHIC we obtain the temporal evolution of strange phase space occupancy at conditions expected to occur in 100+100A GeV nuclear collisions. We show that the sudden QGP break up model developed to describe the SPS experimental results implies dominance of both baryon and antibaryon abundances by the strange baryon and antibaryon yields.
Treating perturbatively the flavor symmetry breaking effects resided in the wave function as well as in the SU(3) Lagrangian, we calculate the strange form factors of decuplet baryons. The higher dimensional representation mixing components in the baryon wave function of the deccuplet baryons are found to yield the important contributions to the strange form factors, especially of the $Δ$ and $Σ^*$ baryons. The model independent sum rules among the baryon decuplet magnetic moments are also derived.
The strange quark plays a unique role in QCD, reflecting its intermediate mass between the light and heavy quarks. In recent years, remarkable progress has been made in the spectroscopy of baryons with strangeness. Many new features of the strange baryon spectrum have been revealed by accurate experimental data with novel techniques, as well as systematic developments of theoretical framework to describe hadron resonances. The basic properties of strange baryons, namely, the pole positions, spin and parity, and decay branching ratios, are being determined accurately. As a consequence, the Part…
The relativistic interacting quark-diquark model, constructed in the framework of point form dynamics, is extended to strange baryons. The strange and nonstrange baryon spectra are calculated and compared with the experimental data.
Using a multiphase transport model (AMPT) with both partonic and hadronic interactions, we study the multiplicity and transverse momentum distributions of charged particles such as pions, kaons and protons in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC energies. Effects due to nuclear shadowing and jet quenching on these observables are also studied. We further show preliminary results on the production of multistrange baryons from the strangeness-exchange reactions during the hadronic stage of heavy ion collisions.
We study charmed and strange baryon resonances that are generated dynamically by a unitary baryon-meson coupled-channels model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. This is accomplished by extending the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa chiral Lagrangian to SU(8) spin-flavor symmetry plus a suitable symmetry breaking. The model generates resonances with negative parity from the s-wave interaction of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with 1/2+ and 3/2+ baryons in all the isospin, spin, and strange sectors with one, two, and three charm units. Some of our results can be identified with experimental d…
Concerning the non-strange particle systems the low-energy excitation spectra of the three- and four-body helium isotopes are studied. Objects of the study are the astrophysical $S$-factor $S_{12}$ of the radiative proton deuteron capture $d(p,γ)^3$He and the width of the $^4$He isoscalar monopole resonance. Both observables are calculated using the Lorentz integral transform (LIT) method. The LIT equations are solved via expansions of the LIT states on a specifically modified hyperspherical harmonics (HH) basis. It is illustrated that at low energies such a modification allows to work with muc…
We have constructed the leading order strangeness S=-1,-2 baryon-baryon potential in a chiral effective field theory approach. The chiral potential consists of one-pseudoscalar-meson exchanges and non-derivative four-baryon contact terms. The potential, derived using SU(3)_f symmetry constraints, contains six independent low-energy coefficients. We have solved a regularized Lippmann-Schwinger equation and achieved a good description of the available scattering data. Furthermore a correctly bound hypertriton has been obtained.
Although strange quarks are produced in $s\bar{s}$ pairs, the ratio of $Ω^{-}$ to ${\barΩ}^{+}$ is greater than one in heavy-ion collisions at lower RHIC energies. Thus the produced $Ω$ hyperons must carry net baryon quantum numbers from the colliding nuclei. We present results of $K$-$Ω$ correlations from AMPT model simulations of Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 14.6 GeV, to probe dynamics for baryon number transport to mid-rapidities at this beam energy. We use both the default and string-melting versions to illustrate how hadronization schemes of quark coalescence and string fragmenta…
Relativistic heavy ion collisions are studied assuming that particles can be described by a hadron gas in thermal and chemical equilibrium. The exact conservation of baryon number, strangeness and charge are explicitly taken into account. For heavy ions the effect arising from the neutron surplus becomes important and leads to a substantial increase in e.g. the $π^-/π^+$ ratio. A method is developed which is very well suited for the study of small systems.
The centrality dependence of Xi^- and Lambda production in Au+Au interactions at E_lab=6 AGeV is studied within a microscopic transport approach. In line with recent data, a slight enhancement of the Xi^-/(Lambda+Sigma^0) ratio toward central collisions is found. It is demonstrated that the observed production of multiple strange baryons can be traced back to multi-step meson-baryon interactions in the late stages of the collisions. Therefore, the present analysis supports an interpretation of the observed Xi abundance in terms of hadronic re-scattering.
By solving the Faddeev equations we calculate the mass of the strange baryons in the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model. The Goldstone-boson-exchange quark-quark interaction is derived from $SU(3)_F$ symmetry, which is explicitly broken as the strange quark is much heavier. This broken symmetry can nicely be accounted for in the Faddeev framework.
We study quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and hadronic gas (HG) models of the central fireball presumed to be the source of abundantly produced strange (anti-)baryons in S -> W collisions at 200 GeV A. We consider how multi-strange (anti-)baryon multiplicities depend on strangeness conservation and compare the HG and QGP fireball scenarios. We argue that the total particle multiplicity emerging from the central rapidity region as well as the variation of production rates with changes in the beam energy allows to distinguish between the two reaction scenarios.
Studies of the baryon-baryon interaction involving hyperons within chiral effective field theory, so far performed up to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the chiral expansion, have shown that for the strangeness $S=-1$ ($ΛN$, $ΣN$) and $S=-2$ ($ΛΛ$, $ΞN$) sectors a consistent and satisfactory description of the available scattering data and experimental constraints can be achieved based on the assumption of broken SU(3) flavor symmetry. We explore the possible extension of this approach at the NLO level to strangeness $S=-3$ and $S=-4$ baryon-baryon systems where empirical information is rather …
The strange magnetic form factor of proton is calculated in a model independent way to confirm the recent experimental result of the SAMPLE Collaboration. We consider a set of six inertia parameters to realize the magnetic moments of the baryon octet. We show that the strange form factor of proton is a positive quantity, i.e. +0.37 n.m.. Its positiveness is analyzed in terms of the vacuum fluctuation coupled to the vector current along the strangeness direction.
We study charmed and strange baryon resonances that are generated dynamically by a unitary baryon-meson coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. This is accomplished by extending the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa chiral Lagrangian to SU(8) spin-flavor symmetry plus a suitable symmetry breaking. The model produces resonances with negative parity from s-wave interaction of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with $1/2^+$ and $3/2^+$ baryons. Resonances in all the isospin, spin, and strange sectors with one, two, and three charm units are studied. Our results are compared with exp…
We reconsider a method based on dispersion theory, that allows one to extract the scattering length of any two-baryon system from corresponding final-state interactions in production reactions. The application of the method to baryon-baryon systems with strangeness S=-2 and S=-3 systems is discussed. Theoretical uncertainties due to the presence of inelastic channels with near-by thresholds are examined for the specific situation of the reaction K^- d -> K^0 Lambda Lambda and the coupling of Lambda Lambda to the Xi N channel. The possibility to disentangle spin-triplet and spin-singlet scatter…
A quasi-particle model is presented which describes QCD lattice results for the 0, 2 and 4 quark-flavor equation of state. The results are mapped to finite baryo-chemical potentials. As an application of the model we make a prediction of deconfined matter with appropriate inclusion of strange quarks and consider pure quark stars.
The amount of proton stopping in central Pb+Pb collisions from 20-160 AGeV as well as hyperon and antihyperon rapidity distributions are calculated within the UrQMD model in comparison to experimental data at 40, 80 and 160 AGeV taken recently from the NA49 collaboration. Furthermore, the amount of baryon stopping at 160 AGeV for Pb+Pb collisions is studied as a function of centrality in comparison to the NA49 data. We find that the strange baryon yield is reasonably described for central collisions, however, the rapidity distributions are somewhat more narrow than the data. Moreover, the expe…
The charge radii and quadrupole moments of baryons with nonzero strangeness are calculated using a parametrization method based on the symmetries of the strong interaction.
We study the strangeness and charm productions induced by the pion beam, i.e. the $π^-$p $\rightarrow$ $K^{*0}Λ$ and $π^-$p $\rightarrow$ $D^{*-}Λ_c^+$ reactions, based on two different theoretical frameworks: an effective Lagrangian method and a Regge approach. In order to estimate the magnitude of the charm production relative to that of the strangeness production, we assume that the coupling constants for the charmed meson and baryon vertices are the same as those for the strangeness channel. We found that the total cross section for the charm production was about $10^3 - 10^6$ times smalle…
The algebraic treatment of baryons is extended to strange resonances. Within this framework we study a collective string-like model in which the radial excitations are interpreted as rotations and vibrations of the strings. We derive a mass formula and closed expressions for strong and electromagnetic decay widths and use these to analyze the available experimental data.
The conventionally separated treatments for strangelets and strange stars are now unified with a more comprehensive theoretical description for objects ranging from strangelets to strange stars. After constraining the model parameter according to the Witten-Bodmer hypothesis and observational mass-radius probability distribution of pulsars, we investigate the properties of this kind of objects. It is found that the energy per baryon decreases monotonously for increasing baryon number and reaches its minimum at the maximum baryon number, corresponding to the most massive strange star. Due to th…
We present results for kaon decay widths of baryon resonances from a relativistic study with constituent quark models. The calculations are done in the point-form of Poincare-invariant quantum mechanics with a spectator-model decay operator. We obtain covariant predictions of the Goldstone-boson-exchange and a variant of the one-gluon-exchange constituent quark models for all kaon decay widths of established baryon resonances. They are generally characterized by underestimating the available experimental data. In particular, the widths of kaon decays with increasing strangeness in the baryon t…
Within the framework of the improved isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (ImIQMD) model, the dynamics of strangeness (K$^{0,+}$, $Λ$ and $Σ^{-,0,+}$) production in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies is investigated systematically, in which the strange particles are considered to be mainly produced by the inelastic collisions of baryon-baryon and pion-baryon. The collisions in the region of supra-saturation densities of the dense baryonic matter formed in heavy-ion collisions dominate the yields of strangeness production. The total multiplicities as functions of incident ener…
We present a non-relativistic quark molecular model (QMM) of the strange crypto-exotic pentaquark baryon spectrum motivated by the recent data showing narrow, resonance enhancements in electromagnetic and hadronic production of kaons. Our model assumes color octet bonded quark molecular clusters forming exotic color singlet pentaquark baryons. We develop explicit molecular pentaquark wavefunctions that exhibit color interchange and cluster fermion antisymmetry. Our color electro-dynamics (CED) inspired Hamiltonian, which includes confinement, one gluon exchange and color magnetic interactions,…
The mass spectra of strange baryons in the octet family are investigated in a finite-energy QCD sum rule approach based on the Gauss-Weierstrass transform. The phenomenological form of the spectral function is saturated by the ground state and two of the lowest excited states, considered as having opposite parities. Treating the ground state parameters as known, the masses, widths and couplings to the interpolating fields are determined and compared to experiment.
Our current knowledge of the baryon--baryon interaction suggests that the dineutron $(n,n)$ and its strange analogue $(n,Λ)$ are unstable. In contrast, the situation is more favorable for the strange three-body system $(n,n,Λ)$, and even better for the four-body system $T\equiv (n,n,Λ,Λ)$ with strangeness $-2$, which is likely to be stable under spontaneous dissociation. The recent models of the hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions suggest that the stability of the $(n,n,Λ)$ and $T$ is possible within the uncertainties of our knowledge of the baryon-baryon interactions. This new nu…
We present for the first time quantitative results for the coupled dynamics of second order fluctuations in the three conserved charges of QCD based on stochastic diffusion equations for a Bjorken-type expanding hadronic medium.
We report on a study of pi and eta decays of strange baryon resonances within relativistic constituent-quark models based on one-gluon-exchange and Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. The investigations are performed in the point form of Poincare-invariant relativistic quantum mechanics with a spectator-model decay operator. The covariant predictions of the constituent-quark models underestimate the experimental data in most cases. These findings are congruent with an earlier study of nonstrange baryon decays in the light-flavor sector. We also consider a nonrelativistic reduction of the point-…
We present a chiral constituent quark model for light and strange baryons providing a unified description of their ground states and excitation spectra. The model relies on constituent quarks and Goldstone bosons arising as effective degrees of freedom of low-energy QCD from the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. The spectra of the three-quark systems are obtained from a precise variational solution of the Schrödinger equation with a semirelativistic Hamiltonian. The theoretical predictions are found in close agreement with experiment.
If baryon-number nonconservation exists in the form of an effective six-quark operator which also changes strangeness by four units, it could have a tremendous impact on the absolute stability of strange quark matter. We show that such an operator is negligible in the supersymmetric standard model with $λ_{ijk} u_i^c d_j^c d_k^c$ terms in the superpotential, but may be of importance in models with exotic particle content. From the experimental lower limit of $10^{25}$ years on the stability of nuclei, we find a model-independent lower limit of the order $10^5$ years on the stability of strange…
A mean-field potential version of the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model is used to investigate the production of strange baryons, especially the $Λ$s and $\overlineΛ$s, from heavy ion collisions at SPS energies. It is found that, with the consideration of both formed and pre-formed hadron potentials in UrQMD, the transverse mass and longitudinal rapidity distributions of experimental data of both $Λ$s and $\overlineΛ$s can be quantitatively explained fairly well. Our investigation also shows that both the production mechanism and the rescattering process of hadrons pl…
In-medium properties of the low-lying strange, charm, and bottom baryons in symmetric nuclear matter are studied in the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. Results for the Lorentz-scalar effective masses, mean field potentials felt by the light quarks in the baryons, in-medium bag radii, and the lowest mode bag eigenvalues are presented for those calculated using the updated data. This study completes the in-medium properties of the low-lying baryons in symmetric nuclear matter in the QMC model, for the strange, charm and bottom baryons which contain one or two strange, one charm or one bottom q…
Polarization properties of strange baryons produced in pp reactions, p + p -> p + Lambda^0 + K^+ and p + p -> p + Sigma^0 + K^$, near thresholds of the final states (p Lambda^0 K^+) and (p Sigma^0 K^+) are analysed relative to polarizations of colliding protons. The cross sections for pp reactions are calculated within the effective Lagrangian approach accounting for strong pp rescattering in the initial state of colliding protons with a dominant contribution of the one-pion exchange and strong final-state interaction of daughter hadrons (Eur. Phys. J. A 9, 425 (2000)).
We demonstrate that both quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and hadronic gas (HG) models of the central fireball created in S -> W collisions at 200 GeV A are possible sources of the recently observed strange (anti-) baryons. From the theoretical point of view, the HG interpretation we attempt remains more obscure because of the high fireball temperature required. The thermal properties of the fireball as determined by the particle ratios, are natural for the QGP state. We show that the total particle multiplicity emerging from the central rapidity region allows to distinguish between the two scenarios.
Beyond the scale of spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry light and strange baryons should be considered as systems of three constituent quarks with confining interaction and a chiral interaction that is mediated by Goldstone bosons between the constituent quarks. The flavor-spin structure and sign of the short-range part of the Goldstone boson exchange interaction reduces the $SU(6)_{FS}$ symmetry down to $SU(3)_F \times SU(2)_S$, induces hyperfine splittings and provides correct ordering of the lowest states with positive and negative parity. A unified description of light and strange bary…
The masses of the low-lying strange and charm baryons are evaluated using two degenerate flavors of twisted mass sea quarks for pion masses in the range of about 260 MeV to 450 MeV. The strange and charm valence quark masses are tuned to reproduce the mass of the kaon and D-meson at the physical point. The tree-level Symanzik improved gauge action is employed. We use three values of the lattice spacing, corresponding to $β=3.9$, $β=4.05$ and $β=4.2$ with $r_0/a=5.22(2)$, $r_0/a=6.61(3)$ and $r_0/a=8.31(5)$ respectively. %spacings $a=0.0855(5)$ and $a=0.0667(3)$ determined from the pion decay c…
We report recent results on the dynamics of strange hadrons in two-body reactions relevant for near-threshold production in heavy-ion collisions at GSI/FAIR and NICA-Dubna. In particular, $\bar K N$ scattering in hot and dense nuclear matter is studied within a chiral unitary framework in coupled channels, setting up the starting point for implementations in microscopic off-shell transport approaches. We focus on the calculation of transition rates with special attention to the excitation of hyperon resonances and isospin effects. Additionally, we explore "unconventional" strangeness generatio…
We review the methods and results obtained in an analysis of the experimental heavy ion collision research program at nuclear beam energy of 160-200A GeV. We study strange, and more generally, hadronic particle production experimental data. We discuss present expectations concerning how these observables will perform at other collision energies. We also present the dynamical theory of strangeness production and apply it to show that it agrees with available experimental results. We describe strange hadron production from the baryon-poor quark-gluon phase formed at much higher reaction energies…
In this contribution we review the dynamics of hyperons with nucleons and nuclear matter, paying a special attention to hypernuclei. We also discuss the presence of hyperons in the inner core of neutron stars and the consequences for the structure of these compact stars.
We review the results of a phenomenological model for cold and dense nuclear matter exhibiting a chiral phase transition. The idea is to model the quark-hadron phase transition under neutron star conditions within a single model, but without adding quark degrees of freedom by hand. To this end, strangeness is included in the form of hyperonic degrees of freedom, whose light counterparts provide the strangeness in the chirally restored phase. In the future, the model can be used for instance to compute the surface tension at the (first-order) chiral phase transition and to study the possible ex…
We extend the $D4$-$D8$ holographic construction to include three chiral and one heavy flavor, to describe heavy-light baryons with strangeness and their exotics. At strong coupling, the heavy meson always binds to the bulk instanton in the form of a flavor zero mode in the fundamental representation. We quantize the ensuing bound states using the collective quantization method, to obtain the spectra of heavy and strange baryons with both explicit and hidden charm and bottom. Our results confirm the existence of two low-lying charmed penta-quark states with $\frac 12^-,\frac 32^-$ assignments,…
We investigate the structure of the SU(3) octet and decuplet baryons employing a constituent quark model designed for the study of the baryon-baryon interaction and successfully applied to the meson spectra. The model considers through the interacting potential perturbative, one-gluon exchange, and non-perturbative, boson exchanges and confinement, aspects of the underlying theory, QCD. We solve the three-quark problem by means of the Faddeev method in momentum space. We analyze the effect of the different terms in the interaction and make contact with the use of relativistic kinematics. We fi…
