Demiclosedness principles are powerful tools in the study of convergence of iterative methods. For instance, a multi-operator demiclosedness principle for firmly nonexpansive mappings is useful in obtaining simple and transparent arguments for the weak convergence of the shadow sequence generated by the Douglas-Rachford algorithm. We provide extensions of this principle which are compatible with the framework of more general families of mappings such as cocoercive and conically averaged mappings. As an application, we derive the weak convergence of the shadow sequence generated by the adaptive Douglas-Rachford algorithm.
Recently, the author, together with L. Leustean and A. Nicolae, introduced the notion of jointly firmly nonexpansive families of mappings in order to investigate in an abstract manner the convergence of proximal methods. Here, we further the study of this concept, by giving a characterization in terms of the classical resolvent identity, by improving on the rate of convergence previously obtained for the uniform case, and by giving a treatment of the asymptotic behaviour at infinity of such families.
The correspondence between the class of nonexpansive mappings and the class of maximally monotone operators via the reflected resolvents of the latter has played an instrumental role in the convergence analysis of the splitting methods. Indeed, the performance of some of these methods, e.g., Douglas-Rachford and Peaceman-Rachford methods hinges on iterating the so-called splitting operator associated with the individual operators. This splitting operator is a function of the composition of the reflected resolvents of the underlying operators. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive study of …
Recently, we systematically studied the basic theory of Bregman circumcenters in another paper. In this work, we aim to apply Bregman circumcenters to optimization algorithms. Here, we propose the forward Bregman monotonicity which is a generalization of the powerful Fejér monotonicity and show a weak convergence result of the forward Bregman monotone sequence. We also naturally introduce the Bregman circumcenter mappings associated with a finite set of operators. Then we provide sufficient conditions for the sequence of iterations of the forward Bregman circumcenter mapping to be forward Breg…
We extend to $p$-uniformly convex spaces tools from the analysis of fixed point iterations in linear spaces. This study is restricted to an appropriate generalization of single-valued, pointwise $α$-averaged mappings. Our main contribution is establishing a calculus for these mappings in p-uniformly convex spaces, showing in particular how the property is preserved under compositions and convex combinations. This is of central importance to splitting algorithms that are built by such convex combinations and compositions, and reduces the convergence analysis to simply verifying $α$-firm nonexpa…
In the setting of CAT(k) spaces, common fixed point iterations built from prox mappings (e.g. prox-prox, Krasnoselsky-Mann relaxations, nonlinear projected-gradients) converge locally linearly under the assumption of linear metric subregularity. Linear metric subregularity is in any case necessary for linearly convergent fixed point sequences, so the result is tight. To show this, we develop a theory of fixed point mappings that violate the usual assumptions of nonexpansiveness and firm nonexpansiveness in p-uniformly convex spaces.
