We propose some new infra-red dualities for $2d$ $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ theories. The first one relates a $USp(2N)$ gauge theory with one antisymmetric chiral, four fundamental chirals and $N$ Fermi singlets to a Landau-Ginzburg model of $N$ Fermi and $6N$ chiral fields with cubic interactions. The second one relates $SU(2)$ linear quiver gauge theories of arbitrary length $N-1$ with the addition of $N$ Fermi singlets for any non-negative integer $N$. They can be understood as a generalization of the duality between an $SU(2)$ gauge theory with four fundamental chirals and a Landau-Ginzburg model of one Fermi and six chirals with a cubic interaction. We derive these dualities from already known $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=1$ dualities by compactifications on $\mathbb{S}^2$ with suitable topological twists and we further test them by matching anomalies and elliptic genera. We also show how to derive them by iterative applications of some more fundamental dualities, in analogy with similar derivations for parent dualities in three and four dimensions.
We propose dualities of $\mathcal{N} = (0,2)$ supersymmetric boundary conditions for 3d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ gauge theories with orthogonal and symplectic gauge groups. We show that the boundary 't Hooft anomalies and half-indices perfectly match for each pair of the proposed dual boundary conditions.
Aspects of three dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories with monopole superpotentials and their dualities are investigated. The moduli spaces of a number of such theories are studied using Hilbert series. Moreover, we propose new dualities involving quadratic powers for the monopole superpotentials, for unitary, symplectic and orthogonal gauge groups. These dualities are then tested using the three sphere partition function and matching of the Hilbert series. We also provide an argument for the obstruction to the duality for theories with quartic monopole superpotentials.
We propose a universal manipulation to obtain Seiberg-like dualities of 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ general quiver gauge theories with unitary, symplectic and orthogonal gauge groups coupled to fundamental and bifundamental matter fields. We illustrate this with several examples of linear, circular and star-shaped quiver gauge theories. We examine the local operators in the theories by computing supersymmetric indices and also find precise matching for the proposed dualities as strong evidence. We also generalize the dualities in the presence of a boundary on which the theories obey $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$…
We systematically study 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ dualities for $U(N_c)$ gauge theories with different CS levels for the abelian and the non-abelian factors. We derive such dualities by a gauging/ungauging procedure on other known dualities and by adding an opportune CS contact term for the baryonic symmetry. This allows us to follow the various steps on the three sphere partition function, obtaining exact identities among the new dual phases proposed here. We apply the procedure to various cases, namely SQCD without and with adjoint, chiral dualities and some sporadic cases arising from the real mas…
We study 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ dualities arising from the compactification of 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ $Usp(2 n)$ SQCD with two antisymmetric rank-two tensors and $D_{k+2}$-type superpotential, with odd $k$. The analysis is carried out by using field theory methods and by checking the various steps on the three sphere partition function. Most of the results are based on a conjectural confining duality that we do not prove but that fits consistently with the web of dualities that we obtain. Along the analysis we recover dualities already claimed in the literature and we propose new ones. The final pictu…
We study dualities for 3d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ $SU(N_c)$ SQCD at Chern-Simons level $k$ in presence of an adjoint with polynomial superpotential. The dualities are dubbed chiral because there is a different amount of fundamentals $N_f$ and antifundamentals $N_a$. We build a complete classification of such dualities in terms of $ |N_f - N_a| $ and $k$. The classification is obtained by studying the flow from the non-chiral case, and we corroborate our proposals by matching the three-sphere partition functions. Finally, we revisit the case of $SU(N_c)$ SQCD without the adjoint, comparing our result…
We study low-energy aspects of 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ $Spin(N)$ gauge theories with matters in vector and (conjugate) spinor representations. Extending the construction of the 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ $Spin(N)$ Seiberg duality, we find 3d magnetic dual descriptions with tree-level superpotentials slightly different from the 4d ones. We test various consistency checks including RG flows to known 3d dualities and supersymmetry enhancement deformation which leads to a 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ duality between $SU(2)$ with three hypermultiplets and $U(1)$ with four hypermultiplets.
In this paper we study dualities for $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories in three dimensions with matter in the fundamental and adjoint representation. The duality we propose, analogous to mirror symmetry, is obtained starting from $\mathcal{N}=4$ mirror theories and turning on a certain superpotential deformation involving monopole operators. We study the role of emergent symmetries in the dual theory, focusing on the case of models with gauge symmetry $U(2)$ or $SU(2)$. We find that $SU(2)$ adjoint SQCD with one flavor and zero superpotential is dual to SQED with two flavors and three singlets. A…
Seiberg-like dualities in $2+1$d quiver gauge theories with $4$ supercharges are investigated. We consider quivers made of various combinations of classical gauge groups $U(N)$, $Sp(N)$, $SO(N)$ and $SU(N)$. Our main focus is the mapping of the supersymmetric monopole operators across the dual theories. There is a simple general rule that encodes the mapping of the monopoles upon dualising a single node. This rule dictates the mapping of all the monopoles which are not dressed by baryonic operators. We also study more general situations involving baryons and baryon-monopoles, focussing on thre…
We propose dual pairs of $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ half-BPS boundary conditions for 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ Abelian gauge theories related to mirror symmetry and S-duality by showing the matching of boundary 't Hooft anomalies and supersymmetric indices. We find simple $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ mirror symmetry between 2d $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ Abelian gauge theories and free Fermi multiplets that generalizes $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ Abelian duality. We also propose a prescription for computing half-index of enriched Neumann boundary condition including 2d boundary bosonic matters by gauging the 2d boundary flavor symm…
We consider interesting Seiberg dualities for $Usp$ gauge theories with an antisymmetric, $8$ fundamentals and no superpotential. We reduce to three dimensions and systematically analyze deformations triggered by real and complex masses, reaching a plethora of $\mathcal{N}\!=\!2$ dualities for $U(N)$ and $Usp(2N)$ gauge theories, possibly with monopole superpotentials and Chern-Simons interactions. Special cases of these "exceptional dualities" are: supersymmetry enhancement dualities, "duality appetizers" and many known dualities relating rank-$1$ gauge groups. The $4d$ $\mathcal{N}\!=\!1$ $U…
We apply the technique of sequential deconfinement to the four dimensional $\mathcal{N}\!=\!1$ $Usp(2N)$ gauge theory with an antisymmetric field and $2F$ fundamentals. The fully deconfined frame is a length-$N$ quiver. We use this deconfined frame to prove the known self-duality of $Usp(2N)$ with an antisymmetric field and $8$ fundamentals. Along the way we encounter a subtlety: in certain quivers with degenerate holomorphic operators, a naive application of Seiberg duality rules leads to an incorrect superpotential or chiral ring. We also consider the reduction to $3d$ $\mathcal{N}\!=\!2$ th…
In this paper we discuss black hole solutions parametrized by their entropy $\mathcal{S}$ and temperature $\mathcal{T}$ in gravitational effective theories. We are especially interested in the analysis of the boundary regions in the $\mathcal{T}-\mathcal{S}$ diagram, i.e. large/small values of entropy and temperature, and their relation to Swampland constraints. To explore this correlation, we couple the gravitational theories to scalar fields and connect limits of thermodynamic quantities of black holes to scalar field excursions in the corresponding solutions. Whenever the scalar fields trav…
One interesting feature of 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories is that gauge-invariant operators can decouple by strong-coupling effects, leading to emergent flavor symmetries in the IR. The details of such decoupling, however, depends very delicately on the gauge group and matter content of the theory. We here systematically study the IR behavior of 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SQCD with $N_f$ flavors, for gauge groups $\mathrm{SU}(N_c), \mathrm{USp}(2N_c)$ and $\mathrm{SO}(N_c)$. We apply a combination of analytical and numerical methods, both to small values of $N_c, N_f$ and also to the Veneziano limit, whe…
We study various orientifold projections of 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ toric gauge theories, associated with CY singularities known as $L^{a,b,a}/\mathbb{Z}_2$, with $a+b$ even. We obtain superconformal chiral theories that have the same central charge, anomalies and superconformal index, whereas they were different before the orientifold. Some of these projections are implemented by a novel type of orientifold without fixed loci, known as glide orientifold. We claim that these theories flow to the same conformal manifold, and they are connected by quadratic exactly marginal deformations. The latter c…
We propose new 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ Seiberg-like dualities by considering various monopole superpotential deformations on 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ $U(N_c)$ SQCDs with fundamental and adjoint matter fields. We provide nontrivial evidence of these new dualities by comparing the superconformal indices, from which we analyze the change of the moduli space due to the monopole deformation. In addition, we perform the $F$-maximization to check the relevance of the monopole deformation for some examples, one of which is found to exhibit nontrivial symmetry enhancement in the IR. We prove such enhancement of t…
Inspired by the gauge/YBE correspondence this paper derives some star-triangle type relations from dualities in $2d$ $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ $USp(2N)$ supersymmetric quiver gauge theories. To be precise, we study two cases. The first case is the Intriligator-Pouliot duality in $2d$ $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ $USp(2N)$ theories. The description is performed explicitly for $N=1,2,3,4,5$ and also for $N=3k+2$, which generalizes the situation in $N=2,5$. For $N=1$ a triangle identity is obtained. For $N=2,5$ it is found that the realization of duality implies slight variations of a star-triangle relation typ…
We construct a three dimensional deconfinement method which enables us to find new three-dimensional dualities and we apply various techniques developed in four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories, such as the product gauge groups and Seiberg-Witten curves to the three dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories. Dual descriptions of three dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories which involve two-index matters, for example, adjoint, symmetric, and anti-symmetric matters without superpotentials can be obtained. These matters are described in terms of s-conf…
Many examples of low-energy dualities have been found in supersymmetric gauge theories with four supercharges, both in four and in three space-time dimensions. In these dualities, two theories that are different at high energies have the same low-energy limit. In this paper we clarify the relation between the dualities in four and in three dimensions. We show that every four dimensional duality gives rise to a three dimensional duality between theories that are similar, but not identical, to the dimensional reductions of the four dimensional dual gauge theories to three dimensions. From these …
We carry out the formulation of nonrelativistic (NR) F-string theory for $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ Gaiotto-Maldacena class of geometries in type IIA supergravity. Considering the NS-NS sector, we reduce the type IIA theory into the NR sigma models those are formulated over the nonrelativistic target space geometries known as the torsional String Newton-Cartan (TSNC) backgrounds. Using these TSNC data, we write down the sigma model action and explore several properties in the semiclassical limit. In particular, we carry out the \emph{canonical} analysis of the T-duality transformation rules in TSNC bac…
The massive topologically and self dual theories en seven dimensions are considered. The local duality between these theories is established and the dimensional reduction lead to the different dualities for massive antisymmetric fields in four dimensions.
We generalize recent construction of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFT from wrapping six-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,0)$ theory on a Riemann surface to the case of $D$-type with outer-automorphism twists. This construction allows us to build various dual theories for a class of $\mathcal{N}=1$ quiver theories of $SO-USp$ type. In particular, we find there are five dual frames to $SO(2N)/USp(2N-2)/G_2$ gauge theories with $(4N-4)/4N/8$ fundamental flavors, where three of them are non-Lagrangian. We check the dualities by computing the anomaly coefficients and the superconformal indices. In …
Four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ Argyres-Douglas theories have been recently conjectured to be described by $\mathcal{N}=1$ Lagrangian theories. Such models, once reduced to 3d, should be mirror dual to Lagrangian $\mathcal{N}=4$ theories. This has been numerically checked through the matching of the partition functions on the three sphere. In this article, we provide an analytic derivation for this result in the $A_n$ case via hyperbolic hypergeometric integrals. We study the $D_4$ case as well, commenting on some open questions and possible resolutions. In the second part of the paper we dis…
We consider minimally supersymmetric QCD in 2+1 dimensions, with Chern-Simons and superpotential interactions. We propose an infrared $SU(N) \leftrightarrow U(k)$ duality involving gauge-singlet fields on one of the two sides. It shares qualitative features both with 3d bosonization and with 4d Seiberg duality. We provide a few consistency checks of the proposal, mapping the structure of vacua and performing perturbative computations in the $\varepsilon$-expansion.
We investigate self-dualities in three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories. The electric and magnetic theories share the same gauge group. The examples include $SU(2N)$, $SO(7)$ and $SO(8)$ with various matter contents. The duality exchanges the role of the baryon and Coulomb branch operators in some examples. In other examples, the Coulomb branch operator becomes an elementary field on the dual side. These self-dualities in turn teach us a correct quantum structure of the Coulomb moduli space of vacua. Some dualities show symmetry enhancement.
We compute supersymmetric indices to test mirror symmetry of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ gauge theories and dualities of half-BPS enriched boundary conditions and interfaces in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills theory. We find the matching of indices as strong evidences for various dualities of the 3d interfaces conjectured by Gaiotto and Witten under the action of S-duality in Type IIB string theory.
We study low-energy dynamics of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ $SU(N)$ "chiral" gauge theories with $F$ fundamental and $\bar{F}$ anti-fundamental matters without a Chern-Simons term. Compared to a naive semi-classical analysis of the Coulomb branch, its quantum structure is highly richer than expected due to so-called "dressed" Coulomb branch (monopole) operators. We propose dualities and confinement phases for the "chiral" $SU(N)$ theories. The theories with $N>F > \bar{F}$ exhibit spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. The very many Coulomb branch operators generally remain exactly massless…
We study various aspects of the 4d/3d reduction of $\mathcal{N}=1$ dualities involving $USp(2N_c)$ gauge theories with $2N_f$ fundamentals and one antisymmetric. We discuss the non-trivial role played by the monopole superpotentials in the reduction and obtain new 3d dualities for models with both symplectic and unitary gauge groups. For $N_f=4$ we observe interesting webs of dualities and symmetry enhancements, recovering and extending some results already appeared in the literature.
We study $U(N)_k$ Chern-Simons theory coupled to fundamental fermions and scalars in a large $N$ `t Hooft limit. We compute the thermal free energy at high temperature, as well as two- and three-point functions of simple gauge-invariant operators. Our findings support various dualities between Chern-Simons-matter theories with $\mathcal{N}=0,1,$ and $2$ supersymmetry.
We propose that a simple, Lagrangian 2d $\mathcal{N}=(0, 2)$ duality interface between the 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ XYZ model and 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SQED can be associated to the simplest triangulated 4-manifold: the 4-simplex. We then begin to flesh out a dictionary between more general triangulated 4-manifolds with boundary and 2d $\mathcal{N}=(0, 2)$ interfaces. In particular, we identify IR dualities of interfaces associated to local changes of 4d triangulation, governed by the (3,3), (2,4), and (4,2) Pachner moves. We check these dualities using supersymmetric half-indices. We also describe how…
We test recently proposed IR dualities and supersymmetry enhancement by studying the supersymmetry on domain walls. In the $SU(3)$ Wess-Zumino model studied in arXiv:1804.02018 and arXiv:1804.05707, we show that domain walls exhibit supersymmetry enhancement. This model was conjectured to be dual to an $\mathcal{N}=2$ abelian gauge theory. We show that domain walls on the gauge theory side are consistent with the proposed duality, as they are described by the same effective theory on the wall. In arXiv:1808.04173, a third model was conjectured to be dual to the same IR theory. We study the pha…
We discuss how N=1 dualities in four dimensions are geometrically realized by wrapping D-branes about 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this setup the N=1 dualities for SU, SO and USp gauge groups with fundamental fields get mapped to statements about the monodromy and relations among 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds. The connection between the theory and its dual requires passing through configurations which are T-dual to the well-known phenomenon of decay of BPS states in N=2 field theories in four dimensions. We compare our approach to recent works based on configurations of D-branes i…
The relation between open topological strings and representation theory of symmetric quivers is explored beyond the original setting of the knot-quiver correspondence. Multiple cover generalizations of the skein relation for boundaries of holomorphic disks on a Lagrangian brane are observed to generate dual quiver descriptions of the geometry. Embedding into M-theory, a large class of dualities of 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories associated to quivers is obtained. The multi-cover skein relation admits a compact formulation in terms of quantum torus algebras associated to the quiver and in this lang…
We present a new family of dualities for three-dimensional gauge theories, motivated by the brane realization of the reduction of four-dimensional dualities on a circle. This family can be understood as a generalization of Aharony duality to quiver gauge theories whose nodes interact via monopole terms in the superpotential. We refer to this family of theories as monopole quivers. We corroborate the new dualities by checking the equivalence of the three-sphere partition functions, obtained from the standard circle reduction of the four-dimensional superconformal index. As a special case, we re…
We find exact relations among the sphere partition functions of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal Chern-Simons theories with circular quiver diagrams. These relations suggest new dualities in gauge theories which are the products of circular quiver gauge theories and decoupled linear quiver gauge theories. The dualities can be interpreted as simple brane transitions in the Hanany-Witten brane construction in type IIB string theory. Interestingly, the brane transitions cannot be generated by the Hanany-Witten transition or the ${\rm SL}\left(2,\mathbb{Z}\right)$ transformation. O…
The Hori-Tong and Hori dualities are infrared dualities between two-dimensional gauge theories with $\mathcal{N}{=}(2,2)$ supersymmetry, which are reminiscent of four-dimensional Seiberg dualities. We provide additional evidence for those dualities with $U(N_c)$, $USp(2N_c)$, $SO(N)$ and $O(N)$ gauge groups, by matching correlation functions of Coulomb branch operators on a Riemann surface $Σ_g$, in the presence of the topological $A$-twist. The $O(N)$ theories studied, denoted by $O_+ (N)$ and $O_- (N)$, can be understood as $\mathbb{Z}_2$ orbifolds of an $SO(N)$ theory. The correlators of th…
We propose a class of ${\rm AdS}_3/{\rm CFT}_2$ dualities with $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetry. These dualities relate string theory on ${\rm AdS}_3 \times ({\rm S}^3\times \mathbb{T}^4)/{\rm G}$ to marginal deformations of the symmetric product orbifold of $\mathbb{T}^4/{\rm G}$, where ${\rm G}$ is a dihedral group. We demonstrate that the BPS spectrum calculated from supergravity and string theory agrees with that of the dual CFT. Moreover, the supergravity elliptic genus is shown to reproduce the CFT answer, thus providing further non-trivial evidence in favour of the proposal.
We consider four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity models of a kind appearing in string flux compactifications. It has been recently shown that, by using double three-form multiplets instead of ordinary chiral multiplets, one can promote to dynamical variables (part of) the quantized numbers appearing in the flux-induced superpotential. We show that double three-form multiplets naturally transform under symplectic dualities associated with the special Kähler structure that characterizes their scalar sector. Furthermore, we discuss how to couple membranes which carry arbitrary `electric-…
We study 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SQCD with symplectic and orthogonal gauge groups and adjoint matter. For $USp(2n)$ with two fundamentals and $SO(N)$ with one vector these models have been recently shown to s-confine. Here we corroborate the validity of this proposal by relating it to the confinement of $USp(2n)$ with four fundamentals and an antisymmetric tensor, using exact mathematical results coming from the analysis of the partition function on the squashed three-sphere. Our analysis allows us to conjecture new s-confining theories for a higher number of fundamentals and vectors, in presence o…
We consider the analogue of Kutasov-Schwimmer-Seiberg duality for two-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ $U(k)$ gauge theory with one adjoint $X$ with the superpotential $\Tr X^{l+1}$ and with fundamental and anti-fundamantal chiral multiplets. We give the evidences for the proposed dualities by analytically proving that the elliptic genus of dual pair coincides with each other. For some of the dual pairs flowing to the superconformal field theory, we show the nonperturbative truncation of the chiral ring. For the theory with one adjoint and $N_f >k$ fundamentals, we argue the theory exhibits mas…
