We discuss constraints on soft CP-violating couplings of axion-like particles with photon and fermions by using data on electric dipole moments of Standard Model particles. In particular, for the ALP leptophilic scenario we derive bounds on CP-odd ALP-photon-photon coupling from data of the {\tt ACME} Collaboration on electron EDM. We also discuss prospects of the Storage Ring experiment to constrain the ALP-photon-photon coupling from data on proton EDM for the simplified hadrophilic interactions of ALP. The regarding constraints from experimental bounds on the muon and neutron EDMs are weak. We set constraint on the CP-odd ALP coupling with electron and derive bounds on combinations of coupling constants, which involve soft CP-violating terms.
It is shown that in the experiments for search of EDM of an electron (atom, molecule) the T-odd magnetic moment induced by an electric field and the T-odd electric dipole moment induced by a magnetic field will be also measured. It is discussed how to distinguish these contributions.
The mixing among the CP even and the CP odd neutral Higgs bosons of MSSM by one loop induced effects in the presence of CP phases is investigated using three different mechanisms to satisfy the EDM constraints, i.e., a fine tuning of phases, a heavy sparticle spectrum, and the cancellation mechanism. It is shown that if a mixing effect among the CP even and the CP odd Higgs bosons is observed experimentally, then it is only the cancellation mechanism that can survive under the naturalness constraint.
We compute the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the bottom quark in minimal supersymmetric model (SUSY) with explicit CP violation. We estimate its upper bound to be 10^(-20) e-cm where the dominant contribution comes from the charginos for most of the SUSY parameter space. We also find that chargino contribution is directly correlated with the branching fraction of the B\to X_s γdecay. Furthermore, we analyze the formation of 1 P_1 resonance of the (\bar{b}b) system in e^+ e^- annihilation, and show that the CP-violating transition amplitude, induced solely by the b-quark EDM, is significantly…
The T-odd phenomenon of induction of the magnetic field by a static electric field provides to study the electron EDM and constants of T-odd, P-odd interaction of an electron with a nucleus. Measurement of this magnetic field for ferroelectric materials (like PbTiO_3) at the level B~3 10^{-18} G allows to derive the electric dipole moment of an electron at the level d_e ~ 10^{-30} e cm and the constant of T-odd scalar weak interaction of an electron with a nucleus at the level k_1^{nuc}10^{-9}. The atomic magnetometry makes possible to measure fields ~ 10^{-13} G/\sqrt{Hz} now. This means that…
We present a complete analysis of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the ρ-meson induced by CP violating operators of dimension 4 and 5 within the QCD sum rules approach. The set of CP-odd operators includes the theta term and the electric and chromoelectric dipole moments of the three light quarks. We find that the ρ-meson EDM induced purely by the EDMs of quarks is smaller, but still in reasonable agreement, with the predictions of a naive constituent quark model. However, the chromoelectric dipole moments, including that of the strange quark, give comparable and sometimes larger contributi…
In a class of beyond-standard-model theories, CP-odd observables, such as the neutron electric dipole moment, receive significant contributions from flavor-neutral P-odd and CP-odd four-quark operators. However, considerable uncertainties exist in the hadronic matrix elements of these operators strongly affecting the experimental constraints on CP-violating parameters in the theories. Here we study their hadronic matrix elements in combined chiral perturbation theory and nucleon models. We first classify the operators in chiral representations and present the leading-order QCD evolutions. We t…
The electric dipole moment (EDM) of an atom could arise also from $P$-odd and $T$-odd electron-nucleon couplings. In this work we investigate a general class of dimension-$6$ electron-nucleon ($e$-$N$) nonminimal interactions mediated by Lorentz-violating (LV) tensors of rank ranging from $1$ to $4$. The possible couplings are listed as well as their behavior under $C$, $P$ and $T$, allowing us to select the couplings compatible with EDM physics. The unsuppressed contributions of these couplings to the atom's Hamiltonian can be read as EDM-equivalent. The LV coefficients' magnitudes are limite…
We revisit the constraints imposed by electric dipole moments (EDMs) of nucleons and heavy atoms on new CP-violating sources within supersymmetric theories. We point out that certain two-loop renormalization group corrections induce significant mixing between the basis-invariant CP-odd phases. In the framework of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM), the CP-odd invariant related to the soft trilinear A-phase at the GUT scale, theta_A, induces non-trivial and distinct CP-odd phases for the three gaugino masses at the weak scale. The latter give one-loop contributions to…
Minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation (RPVMSSM) contributes to the P-, CP-odd four-quark interaction. The P-, CP-odd four-quark interaction is constrained by the new 199Hg EDM experimental data. It is then possible to constrain R-parity violating (RPV) couplings from the 199Hg EDM data. In this talk, we analyze the RPV contribution to the P-, CP-odd four- quark interaction at the one-loop level to give constraints on RPV parameters.
Given current discrepancy in muon $g-2$ and future dedicated efforts to measure muon electric dipole moment (EDM) $d_μ$, we assess the indirect constraints imposed on $d_μ$ by the EDM measurements performed with heavy atoms and molecules. We notice that the dominant muon EDM effect arises via the muon-loop induced "light-by-light" $CP$-odd amplitude $\propto{\bf B}{\bf E}^3$, and in the vicinity of a large nucleus the corresponding parameter of expansion can be significant, $eE_{\rm nucl}/m_μ^2 \sim 0.04$. We compute the $d_μ$-induced Schiff moment of the $^{199}$Hg nucleus, and the linear com…
The contribution of the R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric Standard model (RPVMSSM) at the one-loop level to the 199Hg atomic electric dipole moment (EDM) through P, CP-odd electron-nucleon (e-N) interaction is calculated. We show that the current experimental data of the 199Hg EDM give tighter constraints on some of the imaginary parts of R-parity violating (RPV) coupling than those currently known. We add also the analysis of the P, CP-odd 4-quark interaction generated by R-parity violating interactions at the one-loop level, and discuss the possibility to constrain them in future exp…
We derive indirect limits on the charm and bottom quark electric dipole moments (EDMs) from paramagnetic AMO and neutron EDM experiments. The charm and bottom quark EDMs generate $CP$-odd photon-gluon operators and light quark EDMs at the $c$- and $b$-quark mass thresholds. These $CP$-odd operators induce the $CP$-odd semi-leptonic operator $C_S$ and the neutron EDM below the QCD scale that are probed by the paramagnetic and neutron EDM experiments, respectively. The bound from $C_S$ is $\vert d_c \vert < 1.3\times 10^{-20}\,e\,\mathrm{cm}$ for the charm quark and $\vert d_b \vert < 7.6\times …
In a bent crystal the $P$-odd effect of short-lived baryon spin rotation could imitate spin rotation caused by assumed EDM. Use of different behavior of $P$-odd and $T$-odd spin rotations at crystal turning around the direction of particle momentum makes it possible to exclude $P$-odd rotation contribution, when measuring short-lived baryons EDM. Subtraction of the measurement results for angle ranges $φ$ and $φ+ π$ from each other enables measuring $T$-odd rotation at scattering of negatively charged beauty and neutral baryons by axes of unbent crystal.
The nuclear physics relevant to the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the deuteron is addressed. The general operator structure of the $P$- and $T$-odd nucleon-nucleon interaction is discussed and applied to the two-body contributions of the deuteron EDM, which can be calculated in terms of $P$- and $T$-odd meson-nucleon coupling constants with only small model dependence. The one-body contributions, the EDMs of the proton and the neutron, are evaluated within the same framework. Although the total theoretical uncertainties are sizable, we conclude that, compared to the neutron, the deuteron EDM…
The link between ordinary Standard model (SM) photon and both dark photon and axion like particle (ALP) can be introduced through the dark axion portal coupling. Given the dark axion portal setup, in the present paper we refer the dark photon as the mediator between SM and dark matter (DM) particles, implying that it decays predominantly into pair of DM fermions. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the implication of the dark axion portal scenario for the lepton (electron and muon) fixed target experiments. In particular, for the specific fixed target facility we study the missing energy signatu…
We calculate the electric dipole moments (EDM) of the neutral Hg(199) atom, neutron and deuteron within a generic R-parity violating SUSY model (RPV SUSY) on the basis of a one-pion exchange model with CP-odd pion-nucleon interactions. We consider two types of the RPV SUSY contributions to the above hadronic EDMs: via the quark chromoelectric dipole moments (CEDM) and CP-violating 4-quark interactions. We demonstrate that the former contributes to all the three studied EDMs while the latter appears only in the nuclear EDMs via the CP-odd nuclear forces. We find that the RPV SUSY induced 4-quar…
Electric dipole moments of atoms can arise from P-odd and T-odd electron--nucleon couplings. This work studies a general class of dimension-six electron--nucleon interactions mediated by Lorentz-violating tensors of ranks ranging from $1$ to $4$. The possible couplings are listed as well as their behavior under C, P, and T, allowing us to select the couplings compatible with electric-dipole-moment physics. The unsuppressed contributions of these couplings to the atom's hamiltonian can be read as equivalent to an electric dipole moment. The Lorentz-violating coefficients' magnitudes are limited…
We calculate for the first time the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the $^6$Li nucleus within the alpha + p + n three-body cluster model using the Gaussian expansion method, assuming the one meson exchange P, CP-odd nuclear forces. It is found that the EDM of the $^6$Li is 2 times more sensitive on the isovector pion exchange P, CP-odd nuclear force than the deuteron EDM, due to the CP-odd interaction between the nucleons and the alpha cluster. The $^9$Be EDM is also calculated in the same framework as an alpha + alpha + n three-body system. We also test the ab initio calculation of the EDM of…
Experiments searching for the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the electron $d_e$ utilise atomic/molecular states with one or more uncompensated electron spins, and these paramagnetic systems have recently achieved remarkable sensitivity to $d_e$. If the source of $CP$ violation resides entirely in the hadronic sector, the two-photon exchange processes between electrons and the nucleus induce $CP$-odd semileptonic interactions, parametrised by the Wilson coefficient $C_{SP}$, and provide the dominant source of EDMs in paramagnetic systems instead of $d_e$. We evaluate the $C_{SP}$ coefficients …
Parity and time invariance violating ($P,T$-odd) atomic electric dipole moments (EDM) are induced by interaction between atomic electrons and nuclear $P,T$-odd moments which are produced by $P,T$-odd nuclear forces. The nuclear EDM is screened by atomic electrons. The EDM of a non-relativistic atom with closed electron subshells is induced by the nuclear Schiff moment. For heavy relativistic atoms EDM is induced by the nuclear local dipole moments which differ by 10-50% from the Schiff moments calculated previously. We calculate the local dipole moments for ${^{199}{\rm Hg}}$ and ${^{205}{\rm …
We analyze the constraints on a CP-violating, flavor conserving, two Higgs doublet model from the measurements of Higgs properties and from the search for heavy Higgs bosons at LHC, and show that the stronger limits typically come from the heavy Higgs search channels. The limits on CP violation arising from the Higgs sector measurements are complementary to those from EDM measurements. Combining all current constraints from low energy to colliders, we set generic upper bounds on the CP violating angle which parametrizes the CP odd component in the 126 GeV Higgs boson.
A non-relativistic effective field theory (NREFT) offers a bottom-up framework to classify Dark Matter (DM)-nucleon interactions relevant for scattering at direct detection experiments by organizing the interactions in powers of the momentum transfer $\vec{q}$ and DM velocity $\vec{v}$. This approach generates a number of operators including P-odd and T-odd operators; these can only be generated from a relativistic theory with CP violating interactions. We consider the leading order P-odd, T- odd operators viz. $\mathcal{O}_{10}$, $\mathcal{O}_{11}$ and $\mathcal{O}_{12}$ and compare the const…
The contribution of the CP violating three-gluon interaction, proposed by Weinberg, to the short-range CP-odd nuclear force is evaluated in the nonrelativistic quark model. We first show that the naive leading contribution generated by the quark exchange process vanishes at sufficiently short distance within the resonating group method, by considering the one-loop level gluon exchange CP-odd interquark potential induced by the Weinberg operator with massive quarks and gluons. We then estimate the true leading contribution by evaluating the gluonic correction to the CP-odd interquark potential …
We study popular scalar extensions of the Standard Model, namely the singlet extension, the 2-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) and its extension by a singlet scalar. We focus on the contributions of the added scalars to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$ in the presence of CP-violation, and the electric dipole moment of the electron ($e$EDM) in these models. In the absence of CP-violation, CP-even and CP-odd scalars contribute with an opposite sign to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and as a result these models generally require very light scalars to explain the observed …
We construct the relationship between nonrenormalizable, effective, time-reversal violating (TV) parity-conserving (PC) interactions of quarks and gauge bosons and various low-energy TVPC and TV parity-violating (PV) observables. Using effective field theory methods, we delineate the scenarious under which experimental limits on permanent electric dipole moments (EDM's) of the electron, neutron, and neutral atoms as well as limits on TVPC observables provide the most stringent bounds on new TVPC interactions. Under scenarios in which parity invariance is restored at short distances, the one-loo…
Contributions of a spin 0 axion-like particle (ALP) to lepton dipole moments, g-2 and EDMs, are examined. Barr-Zee and light-by-light loop effects from a light pseudoscalar ALP are found to be capable of resolving the long-standing muon g-2 discrepancy at the expense of relatively large ALP-gammagamma couplings. The compatibility of such large couplings with direct experimental constraints and perturbative unitarity bounds is discussed. Future tests of such a scenario are described. For CP violating ALP couplings, the electron EDM is found to probe much smaller, theoretically more easily accom…
We present an analysis of constraints on two types of CP-odd electron-gluonic operators $(\bar{e}iγ^5 e)G_{μν}^a G^{aμν}$ and $(\bar{e}e)G_{μν}^a \tilde{G}^{aμν}$ from current and future electric dipole moment (EDM) experiments. The recent result from the ACME experiment using ThO molecules is used to derive an impressive lower bound on the effective scale for $(\bar{e}iγ^5 e)G_{μν}^a G^{aμν}$ at 8 TeV, assuming a QCD one-loop factor and no helicity suppression from new physics. One interesting aspect is that $(\bar{e}iγ^5 e)G_{μν}^a G^{aμν}$ contributes to the observable EDM in ThO experiment…
We study the simplest generic extension of the Standard Model which allows for conventional electroweak baryogenesis, through the addition of dimension six operators in the Higgs sector. At least one such operator is required to be CP-odd, and we study the constraints on such a minimal setup, and related scenarios with minimal flavor violation, from the null results of searches for electric dipole moments (EDMs), utilizing the full set of two-loop contributions to the EDMs. The results indicate that the current bounds are stringent, particularly that of the recently updated neutron EDM, but fa…
We calculate for the first time the electric dipole moment (EDM) of $^{13}$C generated by the isovector CP-odd pion exchange nuclear force in the $α$-cluster model, which describes well the structures of low lying states of the $^{13}$C nucleus. The linear dependence of the EDM of $^{13}$C on the neutron EDM and the isovector CP-odd nuclear coupling is found to be $d_{^{13}{\rm C}} = -0.33 d_n - 0.0020 \bar G_π^{(1)}$. The linear enhancement factor of the CP-odd nuclear coupling is smaller than that of the deuteron, due to the difference of the structure between the $1/2^-_1$ state and the opp…
We provide a detailed, model-independent, study for CP violation effects due to the T-odd top-quark electric dipole moment (EDM) and weak dipole moment (WDM) in the top-quark pair production via $e^+e^-$ and two-photon annihilation at a next $e^+e^-$ linear collider (NLC). There are two methods in detecting CP violation effects in these processes. One method makes use of measurements of various spin correlations in the final decay products of the produced top-quark pair, while the other is to measure various CP-odd polarization asymmetry effects of the initial states. In the $e^+e^-$ case only…
CP-violating contributions to Higgs--fermion couplings are absent in the standard model of particle physics (SM), but are motivated by models of electroweak baryogenesis. Here, we employ the framework of the SM effective theory (SMEFT) to parameterise deviations from SM Yukawa couplings. We present the leading contributions of the relevant operators to the fermionic electric dipole moments (EDMs). We obtain constraints on the SMEFT Wilson coefficients from the combination of LHC data and experimental bounds on the electron, neutron, and mercury EDMs, and for the first time, we perform a combin…
The contribution of the CP violating three-gluon Weinberg operator, $\frac{1}{3!} w f^{abc} ε^{νραβ} G^a_{μν} G^b_{αβ} G^{c μ}_ρ$, to the atomic and nuclear EDMs is estimated using QCD sum rules. After calculating the transition matrix element between the pion and the vacuum through the Weinberg operator, we obtain the long-range CP-odd nuclear force by determining the isovector CP-odd pion-nucleon vertex, using chiral perturbation theory at NLO. The EDMs of $^{199}$Hg, $^{129}$Xe, $^{225}$Ra, $^2$H, and $^3$He are finally given including comprehensive uncertainty analysis. While the leading c…
We use our recent electric dipole moment (EDM) measurement data to constrain the possibility that the HfF$^+$ EDM oscillates in time due to interactions with candidate dark matter axion-like particles (ALPs). We employ a Bayesian analysis method which accounts for both the look-elsewhere effect and the uncertainties associated with stochastic density fluctuations in the ALP field. We find no evidence of an oscillating EDM over a range spanning from 27 nHz to 400 mHz, and we use this result to constrain the ALP-gluon coupling over the mass range $10^{-22}-10^{-15}$ eV. This is the first laborat…
A two higgs doublet model with tree level natural flavor conservation can lead to P and T odd nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction through tree level Feynman diagrams. In this article we estimate the magnitudes of the parameters that characterize the strength of the S-PS type of NN interaction. Stringent constraints on the parameters can be derived from the measurement of EDM's of Xe, Cs and Hg atoms in the ground state. We show that the predicted values of the parameters lie close to such constraints provided ${\absvt\over \absvo }$ is large.
Postulating the existence of a fnite-mass mediator of T,P-odd coupling between atomic electrons and nucleons we consider its effect on permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of diamagnetic atoms. We present both numerical and analytical analysis for such mediator-induced EDMs and compare it with EDM results for the conventional contact interaction. Based on this analysis we derive limits on coupling strengths and carrier masses from experimental limits on EDM of 199Hg atom.
We calculate the chromoelectric dipole moment (CEDM) of d- and s-quark in the supersymmetric SO(10) model. CEDM is more efficient than quark electric dipole moment (EDM), in inducing the neutron EDM. New, strict constraints on parameters of the supersymmetric SO(10) model follow in this way from the neutron dipole moment experiments. As strict bounds are derived from the upper limits on the dipole moment of odd isotope of mercury.
We investigate dimension five Lorentz-violating nonminimal interactions in the electroweak sector, in connection with the possible generation of electric dipole moment (EDM), weak electric dipole moment (WEDM), magnetic dipole moment (MDM) and weak magnetic dipole moment (WMDM) for leptons. These couplings are composed of the physical fields and LV tensors of ranks ranging from 1 to 4. The CPT-odd couplings do no generate EDM\ behavior and do not provide the correct MDM\ signature, while the CPT-even ones yield EDM and MDM\ behavior, being subject to improved constraining. Tau lepton experimen…
A channelled particle, which moves in a crystal, alongside with electromagnetic interaction also experiences weak interaction with electrons and nuclei, as well as strong interaction with nuclei. Measurements of polarization vector and angular distribution of particles scattered by axes (planes) of unbent crystal enable to obtain limits for the EDM value and for values of constants describing P- and T-odd interactions. The same measurements also allow studying magnetic dipole moment of charged and neutral particles. Investigation of left-right asymmetry by the use of two unbent crystals makes …
Nuclear forces violating parity and time reversal invariance P,T-odd produce P,T-odd nuclear moments, for example, the nuclear Schiff moment. In turn, this moment can induce the electric dipole moment (EDM) in the atom. The contribution to the Schiff moment from the soft collective quadrupole and octupole vibrations in spherical nuclei is calculated in the framework of the quasiparticle random phase approximation with separable quadrupole and octupole forces. The values of nuclear Schiff moments predicted for odd 217-221Ra and 217-221Ra isotopes indicate a possibility of enhancement by a facto…
We perform model-independent analyses extracting limits for the electric dipole moment of the electron and the P,T-odd scalar-pseudoscalar (S-PS) nucleon-electron coupling from the most recent measurements with atoms and molecules. The analysis using paramagnetic systems, only, is improved substantially by the inclusion of the recent measurement on HfF+ ions, but complicated by the fact that the corresponding constraints are largely aligned, owing to a general relation between the coefficients for the two contributions. Since this same relation does not hold in diamagnetic systems, it is possi…
The ACME collaboration has recently announced a new constraint on the electron EDM, $|d_e| < 1.1 \times 10^{-29}\, e\, {\rm cm}$, from measurements of the ThO molecule. This is a powerful constraint on CP-violating new physics: even new physics generating the EDM at two loops is constrained at the multi-TeV scale. We interpret the bound in the context of different scenarios for new physics: a general order-of-magnitude analysis for both the electron EDM and the CP-odd electron-nucleon coupling; 1-loop SUSY, probing sleptons above 10 TeV; 2-loop SUSY, probing multi-TeV charginos or stops; and f…
We report the calculation of the isovector CP-odd $πN$ interaction generated by the Weinberg operator, the CP violating three-gluon operator. This enables to restrict models which induce the operator by using experimental data of atomic electric dipole moment. The QCD sum rules are used to determine the matrix element required to assess the CP-odd $πN$ interactions. The relation between the Weinberg operator and the Hg and Xe EDMs is clarified, and the constraint on the Weinberg operator is obtained using the experimental data for the Hg EDM.
One loop contributions to the CP even-CP odd Higgs boson mixings arising from contributions due to exchange of a vectorlike multiplet are computed under the Higgs boson mass constraint. The vectorlike multiplet consists of a fourth generation of quarks and a mirror generation. This sector brings in new CP phases which can be large consistent with EDM constraints. In this work we compute the contributions from the exchange of quarks and mirror quarks $t_{4L}, t_{4R}, T_{L}, T_{R}$, and their scalar partners, the squarks and the mirror squarks. The effect of their contributions to the Higgs boso…
The total cross-sections of the reaction e+e- --> W+W-, as measured at LEP-II at centre-of-mass energies between 183 and 207 GeV are used to derive the upper limits on the parameters of CP-violating (P-odd and C-even) triple gauge-boson couplings WWγand WWZ. The 95% CL limits |\widetildeκ_Z|<0.13 and |\widetildeλ_Z|<0.31 are obtained assuming local SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y gauge invariance. Our results are comparable with the previous ones obtained through the analysis of the W decay products. We also discuss the upper limits on the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the W-boson, which follow from the pr…
The T-odd correlation coefficient D in nuclear beta decay probes CP violation in many theories beyond the Standard Model. We provide an analysis for how large D can be in light of constraints from electric dipole moment (EDM) searches. We argue that the neutron EDM d_n currently provides the strongest constraint on D, which is 10 - 10^3 times stronger than current direct limits on D (depending on the model). In particular, contributions to D in leptoquark models (previously regarded as "EDM safe") are more constrained than previously thought. Bounds on D can be weakened only by fine-tuned canc…
We analyze the constraints placed on individual, flavor diagonal CP-violating phases in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) by current experimental bounds on the electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the neutron, Thallium, and Mercury atoms. We identify the four CP-violating phases that are individually highly constrained by current EDM bounds, and we explore how these phases and correlations among them are constrained by current EDM limits. We also analyze the prospective implications of the next generation of EDM experiments. We point out that all other CP-violating…
Parity and time invariance violating (${\cal P},{\cal T}$-odd) nuclear forces produce ${\cal P},{\cal T}$-odd nuclear moments, for example, the nuclear Schiff moment. In turn, this moment can induce electric dipole moments (EDMs) in atoms. We estimate the contribution to the Schiff moment from the soft collective octupole vibrations existing in many heavy nuclei. Two possible mechanisms are considered, mixing of the ground state of an odd-$A$ nucleus with the octupole phonon state, and ${\cal P},{\cal T}$-odd admixture to the single-particle wave function of the valence nucleon. We found pract…
We analyze the constraints imposed by experimental upper limits on electric dipole moments (EDMs) within the Maximally CP- and Minimally Flavour-Violating (MCPMFV) version of the MSSM. Since the MCPMFV scenario has 6 non-standard CP-violating phases, in addition to the CP-odd QCD vacuum phase θ_QCD, cancellations may occur among the CP-violating contributions to the three measured EDMs, those of the Thallium, neutron and Mercury, leaving open the possibility of relatively large values of the other CP-violating observables. We develop a novel geometric method that uses the small-phase approxima…
We have calculated the atomic electric dipole moments (EDMs) induced in ^{199}Hg, ^{129}Xe, ^{223}Rn, ^{225}Ra, and ^{239}Pu by their respective nuclear Schiff moments S. The results are (in units 10^{-17}S(e {fm}^{3})^{-1}e cm): d(^{199}Hg)=-2.8, d(^{129}Xe)=0.38, d(^{223}Rn)=3.3, d(^{225}Ra)=-8.5, d(^{239}Pu)=-11. We have also calculated corrections to the parity- and time-invariance-violating (P,T-odd) spin-axis interaction constant in TlF. These results are important for the interpretation of atomic and molecular experiments on EDMs in terms of fundamental P,T-odd parameters.
We analyze the constraints on CP-violating, flavor conserving Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs) implied by measurements of Higgs boson properties at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and by the non-observation of permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of molecules, atoms and the neutron. We find that the LHC and EDM constraints are largely complementary, with the LHC studies constraining the mixing between the neutral CP-even states and EDMs probing the effect of mixing between the CP-even and CP-odd scalars. The presently most stringent constraints are implied by the non-observation of the ThO…
HfF$^+$ cation is a very promising system to search for the electron electric dipole moment (EDM), and corresponding experiment is carried out by E. Cornell group. Here we theoretically investigate the cation to search for another T,P-odd effect -- the nuclear magnetic quadrpole moment (MQM) interaction with electrons. We report the first accurate ab initio relativistic electronic structure calculations of the molecular parameter $W_M$=0.494 $\frac{10^{33}\mathrm{Hz}}{e~{\rm cm}^2}$ that is required to interpret the experimental data in terms of the MQM of Hf nucleus. For this we have implemen…
Upper limits on the electric dipole moments (EDM) of elementary particles and atoms are presented, and their physical implications are discussed. The bounds following from the neutron and atomic experiments are comparable. In particular, they strongly constrain P odd, T even interactions. The nuclear EDMs can be studied at ion storage rings, with the expected sensitivity much better than $10^{-24} e$ cm. It would be a serious progress in the studies of the CP violation.
The parity (P) and time-reversal (T) odd coupling constant associated with the tensor-pseudotensor (T-PT) electron-nucleus interaction and the nuclear Schiff moment (NSM) have been determined by combining the result of the measurement of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of ^{129}Xe atom and calculations based on the relativistic coupled-cluster (RCC) theory. Calculations using various relativistic many-body methods have been performed at different levels of approximation and their accuracies are estimated by comparing the results of the calculated dipole polarizability of the ground state of t…
