The total cross-sections of the reaction e+e- --> W+W-, as measured at LEP-II at centre-of-mass energies between 183 and 207 GeV are used to derive the upper limits on the parameters of CP-violating (P-odd and C-even) triple gauge-boson couplings WWγand WWZ. The 95% CL limits |\widetildeκ_Z|<0.13 and |\widetildeλ_Z|<0.31 are obtained assuming local SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y gauge invariance. Our results are comparable with the previous ones obtained through the analysis of the W decay products. We also discuss the upper limits on the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the W-boson, which follow from the precision measurements of the electron and neutron EDM.
The complete set of Higgs-boson two-loop contributions to electric dipole moments of the electron and neutron is calculated in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The electric dipole moments are induced by CP-violating trilinear couplings of the `CP-odd' and charged Higgs bosons to the scalar top and bottom quarks. Numerical estimates of the individual two-loop contributions to electric dipole moments are given.
We discuss upper limits on the electric dipole moments (EDM) of the tau-lepton, heavy quarks, and W-boson, which follow from the precision measurements of the electron and neutron EDM.
We study the the effects of non-universal extra dimensions on the electric dipole moments of fermions in the two Higgs doublet model. We observe that the t quark and b quark electric dipole moments are sensitive to the extra dimensions, however, in the case of charged lepton electric dipole moments, this sensitivity is relatively weak.
The electric and weak electric dipole form factors for heavy fermions are calculated in the context of the most general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM). We find that the large top mass can produce a significant enhancement of the electric dipole form factor in the case of the b and c quarks. This effect can be used to distinguish between different 2HDM scenarios.
The possibility to measure an electric dipole moment (EDM) of nuclei in the range $10^{-27} ÷10^{-32}$ $e \cdot cm$ in experiments for search of time-reversal violating generation of magnetic and electric fields is discussed.
It is shown that in the experiments for search of the EDM of an electron (atom, molecule) the T-odd magnetic moment induced by an electric field and the T-odd electric dipole moment induced by a magnetic field will be also measured. It is discussed how to distinguish these contributions.
We study the contribution of antisymmetric tensor unparticle mediation to the charged lepton electric dipole moments and restrict the free parameters of the model by using the experimental upper bounds. We observe that the charged lepton electric dipole moments are strongly sensitive to the the scaling dimension d_U and the fundamental scales M_U and Λ_U. The experimental current limits of electric dipole moments are reached for the small values of the scaling dimension d_U.
We show that there is an anologous Aharonov-Casher effect on a neutral particle with electric dipole moment interacting with a magnetic filed produced by magnetic monopoles.
We present a complete three-loop calculation of the electric dipole moment of the $u$ and $d$ quarks in the Standard Model. For the $d$ quark, more relevant for the experimentally important neutron electric dipole moment, we find cancellations which lead to an order of magnitude suppression compared with previous estimates.
We predict the charged lepton electric dipole moments in the split fermion scenario in the framework of the two Higgs doublet model. We observe that the numerical value of the muon (tau) electric dipole moment is at the order of the magnitude of $10^{-22} (e-cm)$ ($10^{-20} (e-cm)$) and there is an enhancement in the case of two extra dimensions, especially for the tau lepton electric dipole moment.
We describe modifications made to KORALZ version 4.03 in order to allow for anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau. We discuss the verification of the method at LEP 1 energies.
An appended sector of two octet-colored scalars, each an electroweak doublet, is an interesting extension of the simple two Higgs doublet model motivated by the minimal flavor violation. Their rich CP violating interaction gives rise to a sizable electron electric dipole moment, besides the quark electric dipole moment via the two-loop contribution of Barr-Zee mechanism.
We study the charged lepton electric dipole moment which is induced by the scalar unparticle mediation and we predict the appropriate range for the free parameters appearing in the effective lagrangian which drives the unparticle-standard model lepton interactions. We observe that the charged lepton electric dipole moment is strongly sensitive to the scaling dimension d_u of the unparticle and the new couplings in the effective interaction. Furthermore, we see that the current experimental limits of charged lepton electric dipole moments can ensure an appropriate range for these free parameter…
We study the electric and chromo electric dipole moment of top quark in the general two Higgs Doublet model (model III). We analyse the dependency of this quantity to the new phases coming from the complex Yukawa couplings and masses of charged and neutral Higgs bosons. We observe that the electric and chromo elecric dipole moments of top quark are at the order of 10^{-21} e cm and 10^{-20} g_s cm, which are extremely large values compared to ones calculated in the SM and also two Higgs Doublet model with real Yukawa couplings.
Baryogenesis at the electroweak phase transition is discussed within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model. Implications of baryon asymmetry for the electric dipole moment of the neutron are also studied.
We calculate the neutron electric dipole form factor induced by the CP violating theta-term of QCD, within a perturbative chiral quark model which includes pion and kaon clouds. On this basis we derive the neutron electric dipole moment and the electron-neutron Schiff moment. From the existing experimental upper limits on the neutron electric dipole moment we extract constraints on the theta-parameter and compare our results with other approaches.
We calculate the two-loop level electric and chromo-electric dipole moments of the fermion involving fermion-sfermion inner loop, gaugino, and higgsino in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and analyze the chromo-electric dipole moment with the top-stop inner loop. It is found that this contribution is comparable with, and even dominates in some situation over the Barr-Zee type diagram generated from the CP-violation of the top squark sector in TeV scale supersymmetry breaking.
The anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments in spin motion equation acquire pseudoscalar corrections if the $T(CP)$-noninvariance is admitted. It allows to explain the discrepancy between experimental and theoretical values of muon $(g-2)$ factor under assumption that the pseudoscalar correction is the dominant source of this discrepancy.
General classical equation of spin motion is explicitly derived for a particle with magnetic and electric dipole moments in electromagnetic fields. Equation describing the spin motion relatively the momentum direction in storage rings is also obtained.
We calculate the chromoelectric dipole moment (CEDM) of d- and s-quark in the supersymmetric SO(10) model. CEDM is more efficient than quark electric dipole moment (EDM), in inducing the neutron EDM. New, strict constraints on parameters of the supersymmetric SO(10) model follow in this way from the neutron dipole moment experiments. As strict bounds are derived from the upper limits on the dipole moment of odd isotope of mercury.
We study the charged lepton electric dipole moments in the Randall Sundrum model where the leptons and the gauge fields are accessible to the extra dimension. We observe that the electron (muon; tau) electric dipole moment reaches to the value of the order of 10^{-26} e-cm (10^{-20} e-cm; 10^{-20} e-cm) with the inclusion of the lepton KK modes.
We calculate the electric dipole form factor of the neutron in a perturbative chiral quark model, parameterizing CP-violation of generic origin by means of effective electric dipole moments of the constituent quarks and their CP-violating couplings to the chiral fields. We discuss the relation of these effective parameters to more fundamental ones such as the intrinsic electric and chromoelectric dipole moments of quarks and the Weinberg parameter. From the existing experimental upper limits on the neutron EDM we derive constraints on these CP-violating parameters.
The experimental limit on the electron electric dipole moment constraints the pattern of supersymmetric grand-unified theories with right-handed neutrinos. We show that such contraints are already competing with the well known ones derived by the limit on proton lifetime.
We calculate the electric dipole moment of electron using the experimental result of muon electric dipole moment and upper limit of the BR(μ--> eγ) in the framework of the general two Higgs doublet model. Our prediction is 10^{-32} e-cm, which lies in the experimental current limits. Further, we obtain constraints for the Yukawa couplings \barξ^{D}_{N,τe} and \barξ^{D}_{N,τμ}. Finally we present an expression which connects the BR(τ\to μγ) and the electric dipole moment of τ-lepton and study the relation between these physical quantities.
We study the lepton electric dipole moments in the framework of the supersymmetric type II seesaw model where the exchange of heavy SU(2)_W triplets generates small neutrino masses. We show that the CP violating phase of the bilinear soft supersymmetry breaking term associated with the SU(2)_W triplets contributes to lepton electric dipole moments mainly through threshold corrections to the gaugino masses at the seesaw scale. As a consequence, the ratio of the electric dipole moments of the muon and the electron is the same as the ratio of their masses in a wide region of parameter space.
The electromagnetic dipole moments of the tau lepton and the chromoelectromagnetic dipole moments of the top quark are estimated via flavor-changing neutral currents, mediated by a new neutral massive gauge boson. We predict them in the context of models beyond the Standard Model with extended current sectors, in which simple analytic expressions for the dipole moments are presented. For the different $Z^\prime$ gauge boson considered, the best prediction for the magnetic dipole moment of the tau lepton, $|a_τ|$, is of the order of $10^{-8}$, while the highest value for the electric one, $|d_τ…
We consider the Lorentz violated extension of the standard model. In this framework, there are terms that explicitly violate CP-symmetry. We examine the CPT-even $d_{μν}$-term to find the electric dipole moment of charged leptons. We show that the form factors besides the momentum transfer, depend on a new Lorentz-scalar, constructing by $d_{μν}$ and the four momenta of the lepton, as well. Such an energy dependence of the electric dipole form factor leads to an enhancement of the lepton electric dipole moment at high energy, even at the zero momentum transfer. We show that at $\frac{|d|p^2}{m…
Supersymmetric model contributions to the neutron electric dipole moment arise via quark electric dipole moment operators, whose matrix elements are usually calculated using the Naive Quark Model (NQM). However, experiments indicate that the NQM does not describe well the quark contributions $Δq$ to the nucleon spin, and so may provide misleading estimates of electric dipole operator matrix elements. Taking the $Δq$ from experiment, we indeed find consistently smaller estimates of the neutron electric dipole moment for given values of the supersymmetric model parameters. This weakens previous …
The contribution of the R-parity violating trilinear couplings in the supersymmetric model to the fermion electric dipole moment is analyzed at the two-loop level. We show that in general, the Barr-Zee type contribution to the fermion electric dipole moment with the exchange of W and Z bosons is not small compared to the currently known photon exchange one with R-parity violating interactions. We will then give new upper bounds on the imaginary parts of R-parity violating couplings from the experimental data of the electric dipole moments of the electron and of the neutron. The effect due to b…
We study the dipole moments, electric dipole moment, weak electric dipole moment, anomalous magnetic moment, anomalous weak magnetic moment, of fermions in the noncommutative extension of the SM. We observe that the noncommutative effects are among the possible candidates to explain the electric and weak electric dipole moment of fermions. Furthermore, the upper bounds for the parameters which carry space-time and space-space noncommutativity can be obtained by using the theoretical and experimental results of the fermion dipole moments.
High luminosity Super B/Flavor factories, near and on top of the $Υ$ resonances, allow for a detailed investigation of CP-violation in $τ$ physics. In particular, bounds on the $τ$ electric dipole moment can be obtained from CP-odd observables. We perform an independent analysis from other low and high energy data. For polarized electron beam a CP-odd asymmetry, associated to the normal polarization term, can be used to set stringent bounds on the $τ$ electric dipole moment.
We address the impact of sterile fermions on charged lepton electric dipole moments. We show that in order to have a non-vanishing contribution to electric dipole moments, the minimal extension necessitates the addition of at least two sterile fermion states. Sterile neutrinos can give significant contributions to the charged lepton electric dipole moments if the masses of the non-degenerate sterile states are both above the electroweak scale. In addition, the Majorana nature of neutrinos is also important. Furthermore, we apply the computations of the electric dipole moments for the most mini…
In a model where CP is spontaneously broken, the aspon model, it is shown by extending previous arguments about B decay and the value of $Re(ε^{'}/ε)$ in the kaon system, that the neutron electric dipole moment $D_n$ is bounded from below by $D_n \geq 10^{-29}$e.-cm.
We reexamine the R-parity violating contribution to the fermion electric and chromo-electric dipole moments (EDM and cEDM) in the two-loop diagrams. It is found that the leading Barr-Zee type two-loop contribution is smaller than the result found in previous works, and that EDM experimental data provide looser limits on RPV couplings.
We investigate new contributions to the neutron electric dipole moment induced by colored scalars. As an example, we evaluate contributions coming from the color octet, weak doublet scalar, accommodated within a modified Minimal Flavor Violating framework. These flavor non-diagonal couplings of the color octet scalar might account for the $A_{CP} (D^0 \to K^- K^+) - A_{CP} (D^0 \to π^+ π^-)$ asymmetry on the tree level. Using these charm asymmetry constrained couplings, we calculate two-loop contributions to the neutron electric dipole moment and find that they are of the same order as the exp…
The Hamiltonian of relativistic particles with electric and magnetic dipole moments that interact with an electromagnetic field is determined in the Foldy-Wouthuysen representation. Transition to the semiclassical approximation is carried out. The quantum-mechanical and semiclassical equations of spin motion are derived.
The Higgs sector which is extended from the standard model could generally become an origin of CP violation. In the model with two doublet and one triplet Higgs fields on SU(2) symmetry, we study the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the electron whose non-vanishing value has not yet been established experimentally. The Higgs potential is assumed to be consistent with supersymmetric theory, though supersymmetric particles are not taken into consideration explicitly. While the parameter values of the model are severely constrained by the properties of the observed Higgs boson, certain ranges lead…
Heavy quarks, namely, the top and bottom quarks, may show great sensitiveness to new physics effects. In particular, they might have unusually large electric dipole moments. This possibility is analyzed via the corresponding one-loop correction to the neutron electric dipole moment, $d_n$. The current experimental limit on $d_n$ is used then to derive the uppers bounds $|d_t|<3.06\times 10^{-15}$ e-cm, $|d_b|<1.22\times 10^{-13}$ e-cm.
The leading contributions to the electron (or muon) electric dipole moment due to CP violation in the charged Higgs sector are at the two-loop level. A careful analysis of the model-independent contribution is provided. We also consider specific scenarios to demonstrate how charged Higgs sector CP violation can naturally give rise to large electric dipole moments. Numerical results show that the electron electric dipole moment in such models can lie at the experimentally accessible level.
We analyze the electron and neutron electric dipole moments induced by R-parity violating interactions in supersymmetric models. It is pointed out that dominant contributions can come from one-loop diagrams involving both the bilinear and trilinear R-parity odd couplings, leading to somewhat severe constraints on the products of those couplings.
In the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) the $W$-boson could have a non-vanishing electric dipole moment (EDM) through a one-loop diagram mediated by the charginos and neutralinos. Then the $W$-boson EDM induces the EDMs of the neutron and the electron. We discuss these EDMs, taking into consideration the constraints from the neutron and electron EDMs at one-loop level induced by the charginos and squarks or sleptons. It is shown that the neutron and the electron could respectively have EDMs of order of $10^{-26}e$cm and $10^{-27}e$cm, solely owing to the $W$-boson EDM. Since these EDMs do n…
If supersymmetric unification is true, we show how the combined effort of several experiments under way to try to measure an electric dipole moment of the electron or of the neutron has a significant chance not only of producing a positive signal but also of providing crucial information to understand the physical origin of the signal itself.
The paper contains a systematic, model-independent treatment of electric dipole (E1) transitions in heavy quarkonium. Within the effective field theory framework of potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD), we derive the complete set of relativistic corrections of relative order v^2 both for weakly and strongly-coupled quarkonia. The result supports and complements former results from potential model calculations.
We study the lepton electric dipole moments in the split fermion scenario, in the two Higgs doublet model, where the new Higgs scalars are localized around the origin in the extra dimension, with the help of the localizer field. We observe that the numerical value of the electron (muon, tau) electric dipole moment is at the order of the magnitude of 10^{-31} (10^{-24}, 10^{-22}) (e-cm) and this quantity is sensitive the new Higgs localization in the extra dimension.
In the context of supersymmetry, the two-loop Barr-Zee diagrams which induce CP-violating electric dipole moment of electron due to superpartners simultaneously yield CP-conserving magnetic dipole moment of muon. In this paper, we derive the coherence between the electric and magnetic dipole moments at two-loop level due to stops, charginos or neutralinos-charginos. We also use the coherence to constrain superpartner masses and their CP-violating phases, in the light of recent ACME limit on the electric dipole moment of electron and future experiments about magnetic dipole moment of muon such …
Dyon loops give a contribution to the matrix element for light-by-light scattering that violates parity and time-reversal symmetry. This effect induces an electric dipole moment for the electron, of order $M^{-2}$, where $M$ is the dyon mass. The current limit on the electric dipole moment of the electron yields the lower mass bound $M>{\cal O}(1)~\mbox{TeV}$.
We discuss the phenomenology of neutron Electric Dipole Moment from the Standard Model and beyond, and identify the matrix elements most necessary to connect the current and forthcoming experiments with phenomenology. We then describe lattice techniques for calculating these matrix elements
The neutron, in addition to possibly having a permanent electric dipole moment as a consequence of violation of time-reversal invariance, develops an induced electric dipole moment in the presence of an external electric field. We present here a unified non-relativistic description of these two phenomena, in which the dipole moment operator, $\vec{\cal D}$, is not constrained to lie along the spin operator. Although the expectation value of $\vec{\cal D}$ in the neutron is less than $10^{-13}$ of the neutron radius, $r_n$, the expectation value of $\vec {\cal D}\,^2$ is of order $r_n^2$. We de…
A complete one loop analysis of the chromoelectric dipole contribution to the electric dipole moment (edm) of the quarks and of the neutron in N=1 supergravity including the gluino, chargino and neutralino exchange contributions and exhibiting the dependence on the two CP violating phases allowed in the soft SUSY breaking sector of minimal supergravity models is given. It is found that in significant parts of the supergravity parameter space the chromoelectric dipole contribution to the neutron edm is comparable to the contribution from the electric dipole term and can exceed the contribution …
Searches for permanent electric dipole moments of fundamental particles and systems with spin are the experiments most sensitive to new CP violating physics and a top priority of a growing international community. We briefly review the current status of the field emphasizing on the charged leptons and lightest baryons.
I present an exact relationship between the electric dipole moment and anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon in the light-front formalism of QCD and consider its consequences.
The inclusive production of the gauge bosons $W^{\pm}$ and $Z^0$ is studied within the color dipole formalism. Gluon saturation effects associated to non-linear corrections to the QCD dynamics, which are expected to contribute at high energies, are naturally included in such formalism. We estimate the contribution of these effects at LHC energies and compare our results with the next-to-next-to-leading order collinear predictions. A comparison with the current experimental data is performed and predictions for higher energies are presented.
We introduce the strong CP-violation in the framework of AdS/QCD model and calculate the electric dipole moments of nucleons as well as the CP-violating pion-nucleon coupling. Our holographic estimate of the electric dipole moments gives for the neutron d_n=1.08 X 10^{-16} theta (e cm), which is comparable with previous estimates. We also predict that the electric dipole moment of the proton should be precisely the minus of the neutron electric dipole moment, thus leading to a new sum rule on the electric dipole moments of baryons.
A partial screening of nucleon electric dipole moments (EDMs) in nuclear systems, which is related to the Schiff mechanism known for neutral atomic systems, is discussed. It is shown that the direct contribution from the neutron EDM to the deuteron EDM is partially screened by about 1% in a zero-range approximation calculation.
For a bound state internal wave function respecting parity symmetry, it can be rigorously argued that the mean electric dipole moment must be strictly zero. Thus, both the neutron, viewed as a bound state of three quarks, and the water molecule, viewed as a bound state of ten electrons two protons and an oxygen nucleus, both have zero mean electric dipole moments. Yet, the water molecule is said to have a nonzero dipole moment strength $d=eΛ$ with $Λ_{H_2O} \approx 0.385\ \dot{A}$. The neutron may also be said to have an electric dipole moment strength with $Λ_{neutron} \approx 0.612\ fm$. The…
We calculate the electric dipole form factor of the nucleon that arises as a low-energy manifestation of time-reversal violation in quark-gluon interactions of effective dimension 6: the quark electric and chromoelectric dipole moments, and the gluon chromoelectric dipole moment. We use the framework of two-flavor chiral perturbation theory to one loop.
The direct limit of electric dipole moment (EDM) and direct search for dark matter by EDM interaction are considered as including the electromagnetic nuclear form factor, in case that the dark matter candidate is a Dirac particle. The WIMP electric dipole moment constrained by direct searches must be lower than 7*10^(-22)e cm for WIMP mass of 100 GeV to satisfy the current experimental exclusion limits at XENON10 and CDMS II. We also consider the CP violation of EDM and the WIMP discovery by EDM intereaction in the future.
