The objective of this paper is to study the filtering problem for a system of partially observable processes $(X, Y)$, where $X$ is a non-Markovian pure-jump process representing the signal and $Y$ is a general jump-diffusion which provides observations. Our model covers the case where both processes are not necessarily quasi left-continuous, allowing them to jump at predictable stopping times. By introducing the Markovian version of the signal, we are able to compute an explicit equation for the filtering process via the innovations approach.
IIn this paper we provide predictable and chaotic representations for Itô-Markov additive processes $X$. Such a process is governed by a finite-state CTMC $J$ which allows one to modify the parameters of the Itô-jump process (in so-called regime switching manner). In addition, the transition of $J$ triggers the jump of $X$ distributed depending on the states of $J$ just prior to the transition. This family of processes includes Markov modulated Itô-Lévy processes and Markov additive processes. The derived chaotic representation of a square-integrable random variable is given as a sum of stocha…
We prove convex ordering results for random vectors admitting a predictable representation in terms of a Brownian motion and a non-necessarily independent jump component. Our method uses forward-backward stochastic calculus and extends previous results in the one-dimensional case. We also study a geometric interpretation of convex ordering for discrete measures in connection with the conditions set on the jump heights and intensities of the considered processes.
For a general Multidimensional Lévy process (satisfying some moment conditions), we introduce the Multidimensional power jump processes and the related Multidimensional Teugels martingales. Furthermore, we orthogonalize the Multidimensional Teugels martingales by applying Gram-Schmidt process. We give a chaotic representation for every square integral random variable in terms of these orthogonalized Multidimensional Teugels martingales. The predictable representation with respect to the same set of Multidimensional orthogonalized martingales of square integrable random variables and of square …
We characterize the event of convergence of a local supermartingale. Conditions are given in terms of its predictable characteristics and quadratic variation. The notion of extended local integrability plays a key role. We then apply these characterizations to provide a novel proof for the sufficiency and necessity of Novikov-Kazamaki type conditions for the martingale property of nonnegative local martingales with jumps.
For local martingales with nonnegative jumps, we prove a sufficient criterion for the corresponding exponential martingale to be a true martingale. The criterion is in terms of exponential moments of a convex combination of the optional and predictable quadratic variation. The result extends earlier known criteria.
We consider local martingales $M$ with jumps larger than $a$ for some $a$ larger than or equal to -1, and prove Novikov-type criteria for the corresponding exponential local martingale to be a uniformly integrable martingale. We obtain criteria using both the quadratic variation and the predictable quadratic variation. We prove optimality of the coefficients in the criteria. As a corollary, we obtain a verbatim extension of the classical Novikov criterion for continuous local martingales to the case of local martingales with nonnegative jumps.
This paper is concerned with the nonlinear filtering problem for a general Markovian partially observed system (X,Y), whose dynamics is modeled by correlated jump-diffusions having common jump times. At any time t, the sigma-algebra generated by the observation process Y provides all the available information about the signal X. The central goal of stochastic filtering is to characterize the filter which is the conditional distribution of X, given the observed data. It has been proved in Ceci-Colaneri (2012) that the filter is the unique probability measure-valued process satisfying a nonlinea…
This paper is the first part of a series of papers on filtering for partially observed jump diffusions satisfying a stochastic differential equation driven by Wiener processes and Poisson martingale measures. The coefficients of the equation only satisfy appropriate growth conditions. Some results in filtering theory of diffusion processes are extended to jump diffusions and equations for the time evolution of the conditional distribution and the unnormalised conditional distribution of the unobserved process at time $t$, given the observations until $t$, are presented.
We construct a family of non-Gaussian martingales the marginals of which are all Gaussian. We give the predictable quadratic variation of these processes and show they do not have continuous paths. These processes are Markovian and inhomogeneous in time, and we give their infinitesimal generators. Within this family we find a class of piecewise deterministic pure jump processes and describe the laws of jumps and times between the jumps.
Enlargement of filtrations is a classical topic in the general theory of stochastic processes. This theory has been applied to stochastic finance in order to analyze models with insider information. In this paper we study initial enlargement in a Markov chain market model, introduced by R. Norberg. In the enlargened filtration several things can happen: some of the jumps times can be accessible or predictable, but in the orginal filtration all the jumps times are totally inaccessible. But even if the jumps times change to accessible or predictable, the insider does not necessarily have arbitra…
The filtering equations associated to a partially observed jump diffusion model $(Z_t)_{t\in [0,T]}=(X_t,Y_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$, driven by Wiener processes and Poisson martingale measures are considered. Building on results from two preceding articles on the filtering equations, the regularity of the conditional density of the signal $X_t$, given observations $(Y_s)_{s\in [0,t]}$, is investigated, when the conditional density of $X_0$ given $Y_0$ exists and belongs to a Sobolev space, and the coefficients satisfy appropriate smoothness and growth conditions.
Central limit theorems play an important role in the study of statistical inference for stochastic processes. However, when the nonparametric local polynomial threshold estimator, especially local linear case, is employed to estimate the diffusion coefficients of diffusion processes, the adaptive and predictable structure of the estimator conditionally on the $σ-$field generated by diffusion processes is destroyed, the classical central limit theorem for martingale difference sequences can not work. In this paper, we proved the central limit theorems of local polynomial threshold estimators fo…
A new integral with respect to an integer-valued random measure is introduced. In contrast to the finite variation integral ubiquitous in semimartingale theory (Jacod and Shiryaev, 2003, II.1.5), the new integral is closed under stochastic integration, composition, and smooth transformations. The new integral gives rise to a previously unstudied class of pure-jump processes: the sigma-locally finite variation pure-jump processes. As an application, it is shown that every semimartingale $X$ has a unique decomposition $$X = X_0 + X^{\mathrm{qc}}+X^{\mathrm{dp}},$$ where $X^{\mathrm{qc}}$ is quas…
We consider a nonlinear filtering problem of multiscale non-Gaussian signal processes and observation processes with jumps. Firstly, we prove that the dimension for the signal system can be reduced by a homogenized approach. Secondly, convergence of the corresponding nonlinear filtering to the homogenized filtering is shown by a weak convergence technique. Finally, we give an example to explain our result.
The existence and uniqueness of solutions of the Cauchy problem to a a stochastic parabolic integro-differential equation is investigated. The equattion considered arises in nonlinear filtering problem with a jump signal process and jump observation.

When the \textit{martingale representation property} holds, we call any local martingale which realizes the representation a \textit{representation process}. There are two properties of the \textit{representation process} which can greatly facilitate the computations under the \textit{martingale representation property}. Actually, on the one hand, the \textit{representation process} is not unique and there always exists a \textit{representation process} which is locally bounded and has pathwisely orthogonal components outside of a predictable thin set. On the other hand, the jump measure of a …
We consider the intensity-based approach for the modeling of default times of one or more companies. In this approach the default times are defined as the jump times of a Cox process, which is a Poisson process conditional on the realization of its intensity. We assume that the intensity follows the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross model. This model allows one to calculate survival probabilities and prices of defaultable bonds explicitly. In this paper we assume that the Brownian motion, that drives the intensity, is not observed. Using filtering theory for point process observations, we are able to derive …
Combinations of neural ODEs with recurrent neural networks (RNN), like GRU-ODE-Bayes or ODE-RNN are well suited to model irregularly observed time series. While those models outperform existing discrete-time approaches, no theoretical guarantees for their predictive capabilities are available. Assuming that the irregularly-sampled time series data originates from a continuous stochastic process, the $L^2$-optimal online prediction is the conditional expectation given the currently available information. We introduce the Neural Jump ODE (NJ-ODE) that provides a data-driven approach to learn, co…
We introduce two general non-parametric methods for recovering paths of the Brownian and jump components from high-frequency observations of a Lévy process. The first procedure relies on reordering of independently sampled normal increments and thus avoids tuning parameters. The functionality of this method is a consequence of the small time predominance of the Brownian component, the presence of exchangeable structures, and fast convergence of normal empirical quantile functions. The second procedure amounts to filtering the increments and compensating with the final value. It requires a care…
A strict local martingale is a local martingale which is not a martingale. There are few explicit examples of "naturally occurring" strict local martingales with jumps available in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to provide such examples, and to illustrate how they might arise via filtration shrinkage, a phenomenon we would contend is common in applications such as filtering, control, and especially in mathematical finance. We give a method for constructing such examples and analyze one particular method in detail.
We prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions of degenerate linear stochastic evolution equations driven by jump processes in a Hilbert scale using the variational framework of stochastic evolution equations and the method of vanishing viscosity. As an application of this result, we derive the existence and uniqueness of solutions of degenerate parabolic linear stochastic integro-differential equations (SIDEs) in the Sobolev scale. The SIDEs that we consider arise in the theory of non-linear filtering as the equations governing the conditional density of a degenerate jump-diffusion signal…
The objective in stochastic filtering is to reconstruct information about an unobserved (random) process, called the signal process, given the current available observations of a certain noisy transformation of that process. Usually X and Y are modeled by stochastic differential equations driven by a Brownian motion or a jump (or Levy) process. We are interested in the situation where both the state process X and the observation process Y are perturbed by coupled Levy processes. More precisely, L=(L_1,L_2) is a 2--dimensional Levy process in which the structure of dependence is described by a …
The existence and uniqueness in fractional Sobolev spaces of the Cauchy problem to a stochastic parabolic integro-differential equation is investigated. A model problem with coefficients independent of space variable is considered. The equation arises, for example, in a filtering problem with a jump signal and jump observation process.
We study the extremal behavior of a stochastic integral driven by a multivariate Lévy process that is regularly varying with index $α>0$. For predictable integrands with a finite $(α+δ)$-moment, for some $δ>0$, we show that the extremal behavior of the stochastic integral is due to one big jump of the driving Lévy process and we determine its limit measure associated with regular variation on the space of càdlàg functions.
In this paper, we study the following nonlinear backward stochastic integral partial differential equation with jumps \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{split} -d V(t,x) =&\displaystyle\inf_{u\in U}\bigg\{H(t,x,u, DV(t,x),D Φ(t,x), D^2 V(t,x),\int_E \left(\mathcal I V(t,e,x,u)+Ψ(t,x+g(t,e,x,u))\right)l(t,e)ν(de)) \\ &+\displaystyle\int_{E}\big[\mathcal I V(t,e,x,u)-\displaystyle (g(t, e,x,u), D V(t,x))\big]ν(d e)+\int_{E}\big[\mathcal I Ψ(t,e,x,u)\big]ν(d e)\bigg\}dt\\ &-Φ(t,x)dW(t)-\displaystyle\int_{E} Ψ(t, e,x)\tildeμ(d e,dt),\\ V(T,x)=& \ h(x), \end{split} \right. \end{equation*} where $\til…

This paper deals with a nonlinear filtering problem in which a multi-dimensional signal process is additively affected by a process $ν$ whose components have paths of bounded variation. The presence of the process $ν$ prevents from directly applying classical results and novel estimates need to be derived. By making use of the so-called reference probability measure approach, we derive the Zakai equation satisfied by the unnormalized filtering process, and then we deduce the corresponding Kushner-Stratonovich equation. Under the condition that the jump times of the process $ν$ do not accumulat…
In this paper we study time-inhomogeneous affine processes beyond the common assumption of stochastic continuity. In this setting times of jumps can be both inaccessible and predictable. To this end we develop a general theory of finite dimensional affine semimartingales under very weak assumptions. We show that the corresponding semimartingale characteristics have affine form and that the conditional characteristic function can be represented with solutions to measure differential equations of Riccati type. We prove existence of affine Markov processes and affine semimartingales under mild co…
In stochastic control problems delicate issues arise when the controlled system can jump due to both exogenous shocks and endogenous controls. Here one has to specify what the controller knows when about the exogenous shocks and how and when she can act on this information. We propose to use Meyer-$σ$-fields as a flexible tool to model information flow in such situations. The possibilities of this approach are illustrated first in a very simple linear stochastic control problem and then in a fairly general formulation for the singular stochastic control problem of irreversible investment with …
Motivated by reduction of computational complexity, this work develops sign-error adaptive filtering algorithms for estimating time-varying system parameters. Different from the previous work on sign-error algorithms, the parameters are time-varying and their dynamics are modeled by a discrete-time Markov chain. A distinctive feature of the algorithms is the multi-time-scale framework for characterizing parameter varia- tions and algorithm updating speeds. This is realized by considering the stepsize of the estimation algorithms and a scaling parameter that defines the transition rates of the …

We study sequential Bayesian inference in stochastic kinetic models with latent factors. Assuming continuous observation of all the reactions, our focus is on joint inference of the unknown reaction rates and the dynamic latent states, modeled as a hidden Markov factor. Using insights from nonlinear filtering of continuous-time jump Markov processes we develop a novel sequential Monte Carlo algorithm for this purpose. Our approach applies the ideas of particle learning to minimize particle degeneracy and exploit the analytical jump Markov structure. A motivating application of our methods is m…
