We investigate the relationship between the cosmic curvature and the model of dark energy (hereafter DE) with the recent Type Ia supernovae (hereafter SNe Ia) data, i.e., the Pantheon sample including 1048 SNe Ia with $0.01 < z < 2.3$. We obtain the measurements of the dimensionless spatial curvature density today, i.e., $Ω_{k0} = -0.062^{+0.189}_{-0.169}, -0.004^{+0.228}_{-0.134}, 0.127^{+0.280}_{-0.276}$ and $0.422^{+0.213}_{-0.338}$ at 68\% confidence level (CL), respectively, in the scenarios of $Λ$CDM, $ϕ$CDM (i.e., scalar field dark energy), $ω$CDM and $ω_0ω_a$CDM models. In the scenario of $Λ$CDM model, a closed universe is preferred by the Pantheon sample, which is consistent with that from the Planck CMB spectra. However, the uncertainty of $Ω_{k0}$ from the Pantheon SNe sample is about 8 times larger than that from the Planck data, so the former one supports a closed universe at a much lower CL than that from the latter one. An open unverse is supported by the Pantheon sample at $\sim$32\% and $\sim$78\% CLs, respectively, in the $ω$CDM and $ω_0ω_a$CDM models. Among these models, the $ϕ$CDM model is the one which supports the flat universe most strongly. It shows that $Ω_{k0}$ is significantly dependent on the adopted model of dark energy, and there is a negative correlation between $Ω_{k0}$ and the equation of state of DE.
In this Letter, by reconstructing the $Om$ diagnostic and the deceleration parameter $q$ from the latest Union2 Type Ia supernova sample with and without the systematic error along with the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and the cosmic microwave background (CMB), we study the cosmic expanding history, using the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) parametrization. We obtain that Union2+BAO favor an expansion with a decreasing of the acceleration at $z<0.3$. However, once the CMB data is added in the analysis, the cosmic acceleration is found to be still increasing, indicating a tension between …
In this work, we explore the cosmological consequences of the latest Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) data-set, Pantheon, by adopting the $wCDM$ model. The Pantheon data-set is the largest SN Ia samples till now, which contains 1048 supernovae on the redshift range $0 < z < 2.3$. Here we take into account three kinds of SN Ia statistics techniques, including: 1. magnitude statistics (MS), which is the traditional SN Ia statistics technique; 2. flux statistics (FS), which bases on the flux-averaging (FA) method; 3. improved flux statistics (IFS), which combines the advantages of MS and FS. It should b…
We present the most recent VLBI images of SN 1993J, taken at 1.7 GHz on 2010 March 5-6, along with a discussion of its evolution with time. The new image is the latest in a sequence covering almost the entire lifetime of the supernova. For these latest observations we used an "in beam calibrator" technique, and obtained a background rms brightness of 3.7 micro-Jy/beam. The supernova shell remains quite circular in outline. Modulations in brightness are seen around the rim which evolve relatively slowly, having remained generally similar over the last several years of observation. We determine …
Standard candles can probe the evolution of dark energy in a large redshift range. But the cosmic opacity can degrade the quality of standard candles. In this paper, we use the latest observations, including type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from JLA sample and Hubble parameters, to probe the opacity of the universe. In order to avoid the cosmological dependence of SNe Ia luminosity distances, a joint fitting of the SNe Ia light-curve parameters, cosmological parameters and opacity is used. In order to explore the cosmic opacity at high redshifts, the latest gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are used. At high…
By combining cosmological probes at low, intermediate and high redshifts, we investigate the observational viability of a class of models with interaction in the dark sector. We perform a Bayesian analysis using the latest data sets of type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, the angular acoustic scale of the cosmic microwave background, and measurements of the expansion rate. When combined with the current measurement of the local expansion rate obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, we find that these observations provide evidence in favour of interacting models with respect to the…
Several Cardassian universe models including the original, modified polytropic and exponential Cardassian models are constrained by the latest Constitution Type Ia supernova data, the position of the first acoustic peak of CMB from the five years WMAP data and the size of baryonic acoustic oscillation peak from the SDSS data. Both the spatial flat and curved universe are studied, and we also take account of the possible bulk viscosity of the matter fluid in the flat universe case.
We investigate in detail some popular cosmological models in light of the latest observational data, including the Union2.1 supernovae compilation, the baryon acoustic oscillation measurements from the WiggleZ Dark Energy Survey, the cosmic microwave background information from the WMAP 7-year observations along with the observational Hubble parameter data. Based on the model selection statistics such as the Akaike and the Bayesian information criterias, we compare different models to assess the worth of them. We do not assume a flat universe in the fitting. Our results show that the concordan…
The assumption of homogeneity and isotropy on large scales is one of the main hypotheses of the standard cosmological model. In this paper, we revisit a test of cosmological isotropy using type Ia supernova (SN Ia) distances provided by the latest SN Ia compilation available, namely, the Pantheon compilation. We perform a model-independent analysis by selecting low-redshift subsamples lying in two redshift intervals, i.e., z $\leq$ 0.10 and z $\leq$ 0.20. By mapping the directional asymmetry of cosmological parameters across the sky, we show that the current SN Ia data favor the hypothesis of …
Model-independent measurements for the cosmic spatial curvature, which is related to the nature of cosmic space-time geometry, plays an important role in cosmology. On the basis of the Distance Sum Rule in the Friedmann-Lema{î}tre-Robertson-Walker metric, (distance ratio) measurements of strong gravitational lensing (SGL) systems together with distances from type Ia supernovae observations have been proposed to directly estimate the spatial curvature without any assumptions for the theories of gravity and contents of the universe. However, previous studies indicated that a spatially closed uni…
In this paper, we constrain the Cardassian expansion models from the latest observations including the updated Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), which calibrated cosmology-independently from the Union2 compilation of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). By combining the GRB data to the joint observations with the Union2 SNe Ia set, along with the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation observation from the seven-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe result, the baryonic acoustic oscillation observation from the spectroscopic Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release galaxy sample, we find significant constraints…
Recently, the vacuum energy of the QCD ghost in a time-dependent background is proposed as a kind of dark energy candidate to explain the acceleration of the universe. In this model, the energy density of the dark energy is proportional to the Hubble parameter $H$, which is the Hawking temperature on the Hubble horizon of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. In this paper, we perform a constraint on the ghost dark energy model with and without bulk viscosity, by using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method and the combined latest observational data from the type Ia supernova comp…
We reconstruct the Equation of State of Dark Energy (EoS) from current data using a non-parametric approach where, rather than assuming a specific time evolution of this function, we bin it in time. We treat the transition between the bins with two different methods, i.e. a smoothed step function and a Gaussian Process reconstruction, investigating whether or not the two approaches lead to compatible results. Additionally, we include in the reconstruction procedure a correlation between the values of the EoS at different times in the form of a theoretical prior that takes into account a set of…
We investigate a second order $parabolic$ parametrization, $w(a)=w_t+w_a(a_t-a)^2$, which is a direct characterization of a possible $turning$ in $w$. The cosmological consequence of this parametrization is explored by using the observational data of the SNLS3 type Ia supernovae sample, the CMB measurements from WMAP9 and Planck, the Hubble parameter measurement from HST, and the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements from 6dFGS, BOSS DR11 and improved WiggleZ. We found the existence of a turning point in $w$ at $a\sim0.7$ is favored at 1$σ$ CL. In the epoch $0.55< a< 0.9$, $w<-1$ is f…
Using various latest cosmological datasets including Type-Ia supernovae, cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillations, and estimations of the Hubble parameter, we test some dark energy models with parameterized equations of state and try to distinguish or select observation-preferred models. We obtain the best fitting results of the six models and calculate their values of the Akaike Information Criteria and Bayes Information Criterion. And we can distinguish these dark energy models from each other by using these two information criterions. However, the $Λ$CDM model rem…
We show that a combined analysis of CMB anisotropy power spectra obtained by the Planck satellite and luminosity distance data simultaneously excludes a flat universe and a cosmological constant at $99 \%$ CL. These results hold separately when combining Planck with three different datasets: the two determinations of the Hubble constant from Riess et al. 2019 and Freedman et al. 2020, and the Pantheon catalog of high redshift supernovae type-Ia. We conclude that either LCDM needs to be replaced by a different model, or else there are significant but still undetected systematics. Our result cal…
We pursue a program to confront observations with inhomogeneous extensions of the FLRW metric. The main idea is to test the Copernican principle rather than assuming it a priori. We consider the $Λ$CDM model endowed with a spherical $Λ$LTB inhomogeneity around us, that is, we assume isotropy and test the hypothesis of homogeneity. We confront the $Λ$LTB model with the latest available data from CMB, BAO, type Ia supernovae, local $H_0$, cosmic chronometers, Compton y-distortion and kinetic Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. We find that these data can constrain tightly this extra inhomogeneity, almost …
The holographic principle of quantum gravity theory has been applied to the dark energy (DE) problem, and so far three holographic DE models have been proposed: the original holographic dark energy (HDE) model, the agegraphic dark energy (ADE) model, and the holographic Ricci dark energy (RDE) model. In this work, we perform the best-fit analysis on these three models, by using the latest observational data including the Union+CFA3 sample of 397 Type Ia supernovae (SNIa), the shift parameter of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) given by the five-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (W…
Recent observations of near supernova show that the acceleration expansion of Universe decreases. This phenomenon is called the transient acceleration. In the second part of work we consider the 3-component Universe composed of a scalar field, interacting with the dark matter on the agegraphic dark energy background. We show that the transient acceleration appears in frame of such a model. The obtained results agree with the latest cosmological observations, namely, the 557 SNIa sample (Union2) was released by the Supernova Cosmology Project (SCP) Collaboration.
We present an updated analysis of the intrinsic colors of SNe Ia using the latest data release of the Carnegie Supernova Project. We introduce a new light-curve parameter very similar to stretch that is better suited for fast-declining events, and find that these peculiar types can be seen as extensions to the population of "normal" SNe Ia. With a larger number of objects, an updated fit to the Lira relation is presented along with evidence for a dependence on the late-time slope of the B-V color-curves with stretch and color. Using the full wavelength range from u to H band, we place constrai…
To constrain the properties of the first stars with the chemical abundance patterns observed in metal-poor stars, one must identify any non-trivial effects that the hydrodynamics of metal dispersal can imprint on the abundances. We use realistic cosmological hydrodynamic simulations to quantify the distribution of metals resulting from one Population III supernova and from a small number of such supernovae exploding in close succession. Overall, supernova ejecta are highly inhomogeneously dispersed throughout the simulations. When the supernova bubbles collapse, quasi-virialized metal-enriched…
The free parameters of a flat accelerating model without dark energy are constrained by using Supernovae type Ia and observational H(z) data. Instead of the vacuum dominance, the present accelerating stage in this modified Einstein-de Sitter cosmology is a consequence of the gravitationally-induced particle production of cold dark matter. The model present a transition from a decelerating to an accelerating regime at low redshifts, and is also able to harmonize a cold dark matter picture with the latest measurements of the Hubble constant H_0, the Supernovae observations (Constitution sample),…
We apply two methods, namely the Gaussian processes and the non-parametric smoothing procedure, to reconstruct the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ as a function of redshift from 15 measurements of the expansion rate obtained from age estimates of passively evolving galaxies. These reconstructions enable us to derive the luminosity distance to a certain redshift $z$, calibrate the light-curve fitting parameters accounting for the (unknown) intrinsic magnitude of type Ia supernova (SNe Ia) and construct cosmological model-independent Hubble diagrams of SNe Ia. In order to test the compatibility between …
In this paper, we compare some popular dark energy models under the assumption of a flat universe by using the latest observational data including the type Ia supernovae Constitution compilation, the baryon acoustic oscillation measurement from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the cosmic microwave background measurement given by the seven-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe observations and the determination of $H_0$ from the Hubble Space Telescope. Model comparison statistics such as the Bayesian and Akaike information criteria are applied to assess the worth of the models. These statistic…
We investigate the implications for some nonstandard cosmological models using data from the first three years of the Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS3), assuming a spatially flat universe. A comparison between the constraints from the SNLS3 and those from other SN Ia samples, such as the ESSENCE, Union2, SDSS-II and Constitution samples, is given and the effects of different light-curve fitters are considered. We find that SN Ia with SALT2 or SALT or SIFTO can give consistent results and the tensions between different data sets and different light-curve fitters are obvious for fewer-free-paramet…
The model of holographic dark energy (HDE) with massive neutrinos and/or dark radiation is investigated in detail. The background and perturbation evolutions in the HDE model are calculated. We employ the PPF approach to overcome the gravity instability difficulty (perturbation divergence of dark energy) led by the equation-of-state parameter $w$ evolving across the phantom divide $w=-1$ in the HDE model with $c<1$. We thus derive the evolutions of density perturbations of various components and metric fluctuations in the HDE model. The impacts of massive neutrino and dark radiation on the CMB…
We investigate the constraints on the sum of neutrino masses ($Σm_ν$) using the most recent cosmological data, which combines the distance measurement from baryonic acoustic oscillation in the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey DR14 quasar sample with the power spectra of temperature and polarization anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background from the Planck 2015 data release. We also use other low-redshift observations including the baryonic acoustic oscillation at relatively low redshifts, the supernovae of type Ia and the local measurement of Hubble constant. In the stand…
